I'm Brian Gottstein, and this is the Daily Signal top news for Tuesday, January 30th.
Here are today's headlines.
The House Homeland Security Committee held a markup session Tuesday to finalize two articles of impeachment against Homeland Security, Alejandro Majorcas.
The session is expected to go late into the evening.
Once the committee votes, a full floor vote is expected as soon as next week.
The first article of impeachment asserts that Majorcas has failed to.
to enforce America's border and immigration laws and has instead executed policies that incentivize
illegal immigration. The second article contends that Majorcas is in breach of public trust
and has knowingly made false statements to Congress and the American people about the security at the
border. House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green said that America's founders feared
officials like Mayorkas. Secretary Mayoricus is the very type of public official, the framers,
feared, someone who would cast aside the laws passed by a co-equal branch of government, replacing
those with his own preferences, hurting his fellow Americans in the process.
Green also said it's time to hold Mayorkas accountable.
The actions and decisions of Secretary Mayarchus have left us with no other option than
to proceed with articles of impeachment.
To quote Madison once again, perhaps the greatest danger of abuse in the executive power
lies in the improper continuance of bad men in office, end quote.
We cannot allow this man to remain in office any longer.
The time for accountability is now.
The Illinois State Election Board ruled Tuesday that former President Donald Trump
will stay on the presidential election ballot in the state.
This means that Trump's name will appear on the March 19th Republican primary ballot.
The election board's vote was unanimous, 8 to 0.
However, the board, which was evenly composed of Republicans and Democrats, ruled that it didn't have jurisdiction in this case one way or another and left the decision up to the courts.
Following the vote, Trump made a comment on the social media platform, Truth Social.
Thank you to the Illinois State Board of Elections for ruling 8 to 0 in protecting the citizens of our country from the radical left lunatics who are trying to destroy it, he said.
In December, Trump was removed from the ballot and constitutional.
Colorado, and the Supreme Court will rule on that decision in February.
Representative Corey Bush, a Missouri Democrat and member of the left-wing squad in the House
of Representatives, confirmed Tuesday that she's being investigated by the Department of Justice.
The investigation is over her campaign spending on security services.
First and foremost, I hold myself my campaign and my position to the highest levels of integrity,
Bush said in a statement, I also believe in transparency, which is why I can confirm
that the Department of Justice is reviewing my campaign spending on security services.
We're fully cooperating in this investigation, she concluded.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust, a watchdog organization, alleged that Bush paid
$60,000 to Courtney Merritt's for security services during her 2022 campaign, this despite having
a relationship with Merits going back to 2021, and she married him in 2023. The Watchdog Group's
complaint noted that merits did not have the proper security license to handle such services.
Bush said she didn't use tax dollars. According to the Hill, she said, I've complied with all
applicable laws and house rules, and I will continue to prioritize the rules that govern us as
federal elected officials. A Montana family accused the state's child protective services of
kidnapping their 14-year-old daughter when she began to identify as a boy. Todd and Krista Kohlstad said in an
interview with the media outlet Redux, that their child has been removed from their care and is now
being sent to her biological mother in Canada, who hasn't been taking care of the daughter for years.
According to the parents, their daughter had mental health concerns, but their ordeal with the
state began in August when their daughter began expressing suicidal thoughts at school.
When a child protective services worker came to their home, their daughter said she had consumed
dangerous substances and was taken to the hospital. Testing concluded that she hadn't
consumed any dangerous substances, but at the hospital, she said she identified as a boy.
The Colstad stated that the hospital staff pushed their daughter toward a social gender
transition. Montana prohibits gender hormone therapy for children. The family said that
the situation with the hospital eventually led to child and family services taking their daughter away,
claiming that they weren't giving her the necessary medical treatments. Montana Governor Greg Gianforte
seemingly responded to the case on X. To give them their best shot at reaching their full potential,
children deserve to grow up in happy, healthy homes with loving families. Sadly, this ideal is not
always realized. He began a series of posts. He continued, upon hearing recent allegations related to
a child welfare case, I asked Lieutenant Governor Kristen Juris, an experienced attorney,
constitutional conservative, mother and grandmother to review it. Consulting with
the director of the Department of Public Health and Human Services and personally examining case documents,
Lieutenant Governor Juris has concluded that the department and the court followed state policy and law in their handling of this tragic case.
Gianforte said that his administration will continue to advance policies that, quote,
ban permanent, invasive, life-altering medical procedures on children like puberty blockers, hormonal treatments, and sex reassignment surgeries.
And that'll do it for today's episode.
