I'm Samantha Sherris.
I'm Virginia Allen.
And this is the Daily Signal Top News for Tuesday, September 12th.
Here are today's headlines.
Our colleague Fred Lucas is reporting that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy authorized the House
of Representatives to move forward on an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden based
on what Republicans have categorized as Biden family influence peddling.
McCarthy said earlier today that I'm directing our House committee to open a formal
impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden. This is the logical next step that will give
our committees the full power to gather all the facts and answers for the American public.
McCarthy said the investigation will be led by House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman
James Comer, a Republican from Kentucky, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan,
a Republican from Ohio, and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith,
a Republican from Missouri. The Speaker noted that offenses could include abuse of power,
obstruction, and corruption. The House Oversight and Accountability Committee has obtained bank records
that show the Biden family raked in at least $20 million from foreign individuals and
entities from Biden's time as Vice President under President Barack Obama. After McCarthy's
announcement, Ian Sam's senior advisor to the White House Counsel's office tweeted that the House Republicans
have turned up no evidence of wrongdoing by the president.
He also criticized McCarthy for not first holding a vote by the full House to authorize an impeachment inquiry.
We will include a link to Fred's full report in today's show notes, and of course keep you updated as the story develops.
New Mexico's Democrat Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham is in hot water after she issued in order to suspend both open and concealed carry in Albuquerque.
and Bernalillo County for 30 days.
Burnalillo County Sheriff John Allen said that he would not enforce the suspension of the open carry or conceal carry laws per K-O-A-T.
Let me be clear. I hold my standards high and I do not or never will hedge on what is right.
And I take my oath seriously.
In reference to conceal carry and open carry, the Burndale County Sheriff's Office will not
enforce this segment of the order. Will I understand the urgency, the temporary ban challenges the
foundations of our Constitution, but most importantly, it is unconstitutional. My oath was to protect the
Constitution, and that is what I will do. Two state representatives, Republicans, Stephanie Lord,
and John Block on Saturday, called for the governor to be impeached. Lord said in a press release that
she posted on X that I am calling on counsel to begin the impeachment process against Governor
Grisham. This is an abhorrent attempt at imposing a radical, progressive agenda on an unwilling
populace. Rather than addressing crime, at its core, Governor Grisham is restricting the rights
of law-abiding gun owners. Block wrote on X, we can and will force a vote on this. There is no
escaping we, the people, and our rights that have been infringed upon.
Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri has introduced a bill today called Capping Credit Card
Interest Rates Act that aims to cap credit card interest rates at common sense levels, bringing
relief to working people across America, according to the senator's office.
Holly said in a press release, Americans are being crushed under the weight of record credit card
debt, and the biggest banks are just getting richer.
Holly added, the government was quick to bail out the banks just this spring, but has ignored
working people struggling to get ahead.
Capping the maximum credit card interest rate is fair, common sense, and gives the working
class a chance.
Holly's office said the legislation would cap the annual percentage rate for credit cards at
18%, prevent credit card companies from imposing new fees to evade the cap, and impose
penalties on credit card companies that violate the cap.
And finally today, House Oversight and Accountability Committee, James Comer, is investigating
President Biden.
Comer wrote in a letter to State Department Secretary Anthony Blinken today that the committee
is investigating President Biden's connections to certain international and domestic business
transactions and practices, including his family and associates peddling influence to generate
millions of dollars for the Biden family. Comer also wrote the committee seeks information from the
U.S. Department of State to provide context for certain sudden foreign policy changes that occurred
while Joe Biden was vice president, particularly regarding Ukraine, while then vice president's son
served on the board of directors of a company being investigated for corruption.
According to the letter, the committee requests information from the State Department regarding then-Vice President's actions and decisions relating to Ukraine.
Blinken has until September 26 to submit documents, including transcripts and notes made in the course of phone calls between then-Vice President Biden and Ukraine officials between January 1, 2014, and December 31, 2016.
plus all documents and communications between any State Department employee and Blue Star Strategies LLC
from September 1st, 2014 to December 31st, 2016, regarding Ukraine or Burisma.
And that's going to do it for today's episode.
