It was a tragic weekend in Minnesota. Former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband
were shot and killed in their home in Minneapolis on Saturday. Minnesota State Senator John Hoffman
and his wife, Yvette, were also shot in their home. Fortunately, reports indicate that they are now
in stable condition. Both Senator Hoffman and
former Speaker Hortman are Democrats. Minnesota Governor Tim Walls, his former vice presidential
candidate is also a Democrat, and he called the killing of Hortman a politically motivated
assassination. The lead suspect in this shooting is a man named Vance Bolter. Bolter is reported
to be 57, married, and a father of five children. Police say Bolter impersonated a police officer
when he went to the homes of Hortman and Hoffman. And the suspect also made his
vehicle look like a police car. When police confronted the suspect outside Hortman's home,
Brooklyn Park Police Chief, Mark Bruley, said the suspect opened fire on the officers. Fortunately,
no officers are reported to have been injured. Please search the suspect's car and the police chief
says that police found evidence that Bolter appeared to be planning to target other law enforcement.
What I will tell you, when we did a search of the vehicle, there wasn't a manifesto that identified
many lawmakers and other officials. We immediately made alerts to the state who took action
on alerting them and providing security where necessary. And that's all I'll stop there.
NBC affiliate KRE11 spoke to a man who is identified to be Bolter's roommate. The roommate
told reporters that he didn't know why Bolter might have done this, but he described him as a
caring guy. I mean, he was a loving, caring guy. You know, loved to
family, loved his friends, and loved God, and I don't know why he did what he did.
Authorities launched a large-scale manhunt for the suspect Saturday and into Sunday.
Police did find and take Bolter into custody on Sunday, according to multiple reports
that broke late Sunday night. President Trump wrote on True Social Saturday that he'd been briefed
on the terrible shooting, adding it appears to be a targeted attack against state lawmakers.
Trump says Attorney General Pam Bondi and the
FBI are investigating the situation. Well, it was indeed a busy weekend across America, but here in
Washington, D.C., there was two big events that made national news. The military parade celebrating
the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army. The parade featured U.S. soldiers dressed in military
uniforms from across the decades, including World War I and World War II uniforms. Dozens of military
vehicles, including armed tanks and even a robot dog were part of the parade that drew massive
crowds to D.C. The parade growers erupted in cheers when they looked to the skies and saw an
official parachute demonstration from the U.S. Army. Trump watched the full parade from a viewing
box on Constitution Avenue, and he delivered remarks following the parade. The president thanked
our military personnel, especially our army men and women. Because the army keeps us free,
you make us strong, and tonight you have made all Americans very proud.
They're watching from all over the world, actually,
made them all very proud.
Every other country celebrates their victories.
It's about time America did too.
That's what we're doing tonight.
And watching this magnificent display,
our souls are filled with gratitude
for every generation of warriors who have warned the uniform.
all the way back to the very beginning, so to every veteran
across our land and right here in our nation's capital,
including six recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor.
We love you, we honor you, and we salute your noble service
to our flag and to our country.
As we celebrate tonight, we also think of the hundreds
of thousands of Army soldiers who have made the supreme
sacrifice for our nation and selflessly laid down their lives in every war from the revolution
to the war on terror to the Gold Star families with us today. The courage of your heroes is the
bedrock on which our entire nation stands. We thank you. Yes, we thank you. While many Americans
were at that parade celebrating the U.S. Army, the other big event in Washington, D.C. this weekend was the
no king's protest, and those rallies and protests were held not only in D.C. this weekend,
but in cities and communities across the country, including Philadelphia, Atlanta, New York, Chicago,
just to name a few. Protesters carried signs, reading things like America has no king.
But protests were not just in those big cities, but even smaller communities like Culpeper, Virginia.
It's about an hour and a half from Washington, D.C., and has a population of around 21,000.
there a man has been arrested for driving his vehicle into a crowd that was participating in the No King's protests.
There are fortunately no reports of injuries, according to Axios.
Protests also continued in Los Angeles this weekend.
The scene escalated on Saturday night in L.A.
When rioters used rocks and fireworks to target law enforcement, police deployed tear gas and used rubber bullets to break up the crowd in L.A.
Riots also followed the No King's protests in Portland, Oregon.
on Saturday. Fox News reports that four officers were injured and three people were arrested in
Portland. President Trump is in Canada today. He arrived there yesterday for the group of seven or G7
summit. The G7 includes some of the world's largest economies, including Britain, France, Germany,
Italy, Canada, Japan, and of course the U.S. But the conflict between Israel and Iran is expected
to dominate the three-day summit in Canada. Israel continued to hit targets in
in Iran over the weekend, including strikes on Iran's defense ministry headquarters in Tehran.
Iranian state media confirmed on Sunday that Israeli strikes had killed Islamic Revolutionary
Guard Corps Intelligence Chief Brigadier General Mohamed Qasimi and his deputy.
Iranian state media said an Israeli drone attack on Iran's South Pars gas field caused a fire
and halted gas production. Also, over the weekend, Israel was reported to be targeting
Iran's ballistic missile launch sites likely to try and prevent and stop Iran from carrying out
more missile attacks against Israel. Israel has been clear that it is targeting Iran's military
and nuclear infrastructure and its leaders, and Israel is accusing Iran of targeting civilians.
While Israel's Iron Dome has intercepted the majority of the missiles that Iran has fired at
Israel, some have made it through. On Sunday, a missile struck in Batyam just outside television,
hitting an apartment building, that strike left about 100 injured and at least nine dead.
The Iranian Ministry of Health says more than 220 people have been killed in Iran since strikes
began on Friday. Israel officials say over a dozen people in Israel have been killed,
including two children. On Saturday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu released a video
in which he spoke to the American people and explained why Israel launched the preemptive strike
on Iran's nuclear program. He also indicated that Israel does not have any plans to immediately
stop its campaign against Iran. Our enemy is your enemy. And by doing what we're doing, we're dealing
with something that will threaten all of us sooner or later. Our victory will be your victory.
How do we intend to achieve that victory? Well, we've already done great things. We've taken out
their senior military leadership. We've taken out their senior technologists who are leading the race
to build atomic weapons that would threaten us, but not only us.
We've done all that and many other things.
But we are also aware of the fact that there's more to be done.
So we're preparing.
We paved the way to Tehran,
and our pilots over the skies of Tehran will deal blows to the Itola regime
that they cannot even imagine.
And I can tell you this.
We have indications that senior leaders in Iran are already packing their backs.
They sense what's coming.
I'll tell you what would have come if we hadn't acted.
We had information that this unscrupulous regime was planning to give the nuclear weapons that they would develop to their terrorist proxies.
That's nuclear terrorism on steroids.
That would threaten the entire world.
This is what Israel is doing with the support, the clear support of the President of the United States, Donald Trump, and the American people, and many others in the world.
world. So with God's help and with the goodwill and resolution of all free societies, we shall win.
Israel has reportedly asked the U.S. to get involved in the fight against Iran and aid in the
effort to eliminate Iran's nuclear program, but the U.S. has not indicated that it has any
plans to do so. President Trump said multiple times over the weekend that he hopes Iran will come
back to the negotiating table. On Saturday, Trump spoke over the phone with Russian President
Vladimir Putin, and Trump said Putin feels as I do this war in Israel and Iran should end,
to which I explained his war should also end.
On Sunday, Trump wrote on true social, Iran and Israel should make a deal and will make a deal.
With that, we're going to leave it there for today.
