Starting point is 00:00:25 We'd love to talk, business. New tariffs are coming for all steel and aluminum entering the United States. I'm Virginia Allen, and this is the Daily Signal's top news in 10th from Monday, February 10th. President Trump is imposing more tariffs on goods coming into the United States. The president is imposing 25% tariffs on all steel and aluminum that enters the U.S. On Sunday, Trump told press that this tariff would apply to steel and aluminum coming in from any country. We'll also be announcing steel tariffs on Monday. Tomorrow?
Starting point is 00:01:14 Monday, yeah, tomorrow. What countries will those go on? Everybody, steel. Including Canada and Mexico. Yeah, any steel coming into the United States is going to have a 25% tariff. What about aluminum, sir? Aluminum, too. The new tariffs are expected to be a boom for domestic steel and aluminum manufacturers.
Starting point is 00:01:33 But as the New York Times reports, the new tariffs could harm the broader economy. prices may increase in other industries that rely on cheaper metal that comes into the United States from other countries. This is not the first time that Trump imposed tariffs on metal coming into the U.S. He did the same thing during his first administration. It's worth noting that these new tariffs will apply to steel an aluminum that come into the U.S. from both Canada and Mexico, both of which supply a good portion of metal to the United States. Of course, just last week, Trump canceled 25 percent. tariffs on all goods coming into the United States from Mexico and Canada.
Starting point is 00:02:12 That was after the countries reached an agreement on border security efforts. But Trump has not indicated that he's interested in any further negotiations on these metal tariff imports. Hamas has accused Israel of violating its current ceasefire agreement. And because of this, Hamas says it will postpone the hostage release that was scheduled for this coming Saturday. A spokesperson for Hamas wrote on X. today that the next hostage release will be postponed until further notice, and they added,
Starting point is 00:02:45 we affirm our commitment to the terms of the agreement as long as the occupation commits to them. Israeli defense minister Israel Katz called Hamas's action a complete violation of the ceasefire agreement and the deal to release the hostages. Katz has reportedly directed the Israeli military to prepare at the highest level of alert for any possible scenario in Gaza. The New York Post reports that Hamas's state media office has accused Israel of refusing to allow shelter supplies into the Gaza Strip. Allowing humanitarian supplies into Gaza is a part of the ceasefire agreement. It's worth noting that last week, the U.N. reported that over one million people in the Gaza Strip have received food assistance since the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas
Starting point is 00:03:35 took effect nearly three weeks ago. Right now, Israel and Hamas are in the middle of a six-week ceasefire that is supposed to last until the first week of March. A total of 33 hostages are slated to be released during this first phase of the ceasefire, according to the terms of the agreement. And so far, 16 Israeli hostages have been released during this current phase one of the ceasefire. Three male hostages were released this past Saturday. All three men were very thin, and weak when they were released, and this caused a great deal of outrage across social media over the weekend. There are still two Israeli-American hostages being held in Gaza who are believed to be alive, 21-year-old Edan Alexander and 36-year-old Sigi Del Chen.
Starting point is 00:04:23 Another legal roadblock came up today in the effort of the Trump administration to end birthright citizenship for children born to the parents of illegal aliens. A third judge, has blocked Trump's executive action to end automatic birthright citizenship for those children born to illegal aliens. Today's ruling comes from U.S. District Judge Joseph LaPlante in New Hampshire. The judge voiced skepticism over the legality of Trump's executive order, and he granted an injunction and says that he will issue a longer written explanation explaining his decision this week. The American Civil Liberties Union brought that lawsuit against the Trump administration. the ACLU argues that Trump's executive order ending birthright citizenship for illegal aliens is a violation of the Constitution and of court precedent.
Starting point is 00:05:16 The ACLU issued a statement today celebrating the temporary block on Trump's executive order. Deputy Director of the ACLU's Immigrants Rights Project Cody Wausfee said today that the ruling is the latest rebuke of President Trump's wildly unconstitutional bid to end birthright citizenship. Judges in Seattle and Greenbelt, Maryland, issued similar injunctions last week. As we are seeing play out, this is a major legal question. The interpretation of the birthright citizenship clause of the Constitution is expected to continue making its way up through the courts. And it might even reach the Supreme Court. So stay tuned. Up next is today's news flash.

The Daily Signal is your voice for the truth. During an exclusive Fox News interview between President Trump and Brett Baer, Trump discussed his plan for Gaza. This portion of the interview aired on Fox and Friends this morning, and in it, Trump said that under his plan, the Palestinians would not return to Gaza until the rebuilding was complete.
Starting point is 00:07:23 Would the Palestinians have the rights to return? No, they wouldn't because they're going to have much better housing, much better. In other words, I'm talking about building a permanent. place for them. Because if they have to return now, it'll be years before you could ever, it's not habitable. It would be years before it could happen. I'm talking about starting to build, and I think I could make a deal with Jordan. I think I could make a deal with Egypt. You know, we give them billions and billions of dollars a year. Stay tuned. A new CBS News UGov poll shows that Americans have a favorable view of President Trump just a few weeks into the president's second term. Right now, Trump has a
Starting point is 00:08:04 53% approval rating, and 70% of Americans say he's doing what he said he would do. 69% of those surveyed described Trump as tough, 63% describe him as energetic, 60% as focused, and 58% as effective. With that, that'll do it for today's episode. Thanks for joining us here on Top News in 10. Don't forget to hit that subscribe button so you never miss out on brand new shows from The Daily Signal.
