I'm Virginia Allen.
I'm John Pop.
And this is the Daily Signal Top News for Tuesday, December 6.
Here are today's headlines.
President Joe Biden visited Arizona today.
He went to a building site for a new computer chip plant.
Biden used the visit to town his policies that he says are leading to job growth.
But noticeably missing from Biden's Arizona trip itinerary is a visit to the southern border.
Biden is in the Phoenix area, which is just about a two and a half to three.
three-hour drive from America's southern border with Mexico. But when Peter Ducey of Fox News asked Biden
why he is going to Arizona and not swinging by the border, Biden said there are more important things to do.
Take a listen.
This is the border because they're more important than going on. They're going to invest millions of dollars in a new enterprise.
Biden has not visited the border since taking office.
Vice President Kamala Harris leads the White House border efforts and continues to say the border is
closed. In October, Customs and Border Protection encountered 230,678 illegal aliens at the
southern border. Polls in Georgia are open until 7 p.m. for voters to cast their ballots in the
Senate runoff election between Democrat, Senator Raphael Warnock, and Republican Herschel
Walker. 1.8 million Georgians voted early ahead of the election today. This is, of course,
expected to be a close race. Both parties have invested millions in the campaign and runoff.
In ads for the runoff election, Warnock and the Democrats are reported to have spent over
52 million. Republicans in Walker are reported to have spent 25 million in ads during the runoff.
And while this race does not determine which party has control of the Senate, it is significant
in determining the political leanings of the state of Georgia and in enabling Republicans
to potentially reverse the Democrats' majority in 2024.
Arizona Republican Congressman Andy Biggs has thrown his hat in the ring for House Speaker.
Biggs is challenging current House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy for the position.
Biggs says McCarthy is a creature of the establishment status quo.
At least five House Republicans have come out in opposition of McCarthy.
The House is set to elect its Speaker on January 3rd, but the election could take days if Republicans.
Republicans remain divided over the decision.
The Supreme Court is hearing arguments tomorrow for a highly anticipated election case.
The case is known as Moore v. Harper, and it could ultimately impact the authority state lawmakers have over elections.
The case originated in North Carolina where Democrats on the state Supreme Court blocked Republicans from redrawing congressional districts.
A lower court drew up the map, so the nine justices will consider whether courts have the power to take such an action, since the Constitution gives the legislature the power to determine the times, places, and manner of elections.
We will learn the justice is ruling in the case next year.
The suspect in the Colorado LGBTQ nightclub shooting was charged today with 305 criminal counts.
Among the charges are first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, bias-motivated crimes, and first- and second-degree assault.
The man is suspected of killing five people at Club Q in Colorado Springs in mid-November and wounding 17 others.
Five other people are reported to have been injured, but not by gunshot wounds, and 12 others are reporting non-visible injuries, according to police.
District Attorney Michael Allen says it's probably the most charges.
that we've ever filed on a murder case like this
in the state of Colorado.
While LGBT activists have traced the shooting
to anti-LGB hate, the suspect identifies as non-binary
and uses they-them pronouns.
The preliminary hearing in the case
may take place this spring.
