I'm Virginia Allen.
And I'm Jillian Richards.
And this is the Daily Signal top news for Thursday, November 10th.
Here are today's headlines.
Before we jump into headlines today, we wanted to take a moment at the top of the show to acknowledge all of our veterans.
Tomorrow is Veterans Day, and we know so many of you all listening have served or you have loved ones who have served.
And so from all of us here at the Daily Signal, thank you for your sacrifice and your willingness to serve this great nation.
and a fight to preserve our freedoms.
There will not be a top news edition of the show tomorrow
because we're going to be taking off in honor of Veterans Day.
All right, with that, let's go ahead and get to our top news,
starting with the Georgia runoff race.
In a flashback to 2020, the Georgia Senate race is again headed to our runoff.
Democrat Raphael Warnock is defending his incumbency
against Republican Herschel Walker.
The two candidates have less than a month before Georgians head back to the polls on December 6th to determine who will hold the Senate seat.
Democrats are sparing no expense to try to ensure a victory for Warnock.
The Democrat Senatorial Campaign Committee announced today that they are investing $7 million into the runoff.
The money will be used to fund direct voter contact programs such as door knocking in Georgia.
Democrat Senator Gary Peters said we know talking directly to voters through a strong, well-funded ground game is critical to winning in Georgia.
And we're wasting no time in kick-starting these programs in the runoff.
The pro-life groups Susannie B. Anthony List Pro Life America and Women Speak OutPack have announced that they will be putting $1 million into efforts to reelect Walker.
Two other Senate races still to be determined are Arizona and Nevada.
Hundreds of thousands of ballots have not been counted in these two battleground states.
In Arizona, Democratic incumbent Senator Mark Kelly is hoping to maintain his seat against Republican challenger Blake Masters.
As of this afternoon, the Associated Press was reporting a five-point lead for Kelly, with 70% of the vote counted so far.
In Nevada's Senate race, 83% of the votes have been reported.
Republican Adam Lacksalt currently has about a two-point lead over Democrat incumbent senator,
Catherine Cortez Mastow.
Stay tuned.
If your paycheck is not going as far as it used to, there's a good reason.
Heritage Foundation economist E.J. and Tony says the average American family has lost
in upwards of $7,000 due to inflation.
That's according to reporting by the Daily Signal, Samantha.
the sheriffs. So let's break down this number a little bit further. Real income is how far that
money goes to actually buy real goods. But rising interest rates have added another $1,300
in higher borrowing costs. And that's according to Antony. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
reported today that the Consumer Price Index for all urban consumers rose by 0.4% in October.
The Consumer Price Index released today reported that the food index rose by 0.6% and the energy index rose by 1.8%.
And the Fuel Oil Index rose by 19.8%, while the used car and truck index decreased by 2.4%.
And the apparel index decreased by 0.7%.
And Tony told the Daily Signal that this winter, Americans are facing 19% high.
heating bills on average. And that's due to the administration's war on American energy, he says.
Biden tweeted in response to the new report that today's inflation report shows my plan is working
and folks are starting to see progress. The next consumer price index will be released on December 13th.
Hurricane Nicole made landfall in Florida on Thursday morning. It is now weakened to a tropical
storm. The National Hurricane Center said Nicole weakened to a tropical storm after it made landfall
outside of Vero Beach, Florida. That's about 100 miles southeast of Orlando. Authorities in Orange County,
Florida have reported that two people died as a result of the storm after they came in contact with a
downed power line. Winds have now decreased to about 45 miles per hour, but 300,000 Floridians have lost
power. Russia has announced a retreat of its troops from the strategic port city of Kershan,
but Ukraine officials fear that retreat could actually be a trap.
Kershan is in the southern part of Ukraine and even after Moscow announced the retreat,
it was not clear how many of the estimated 40,000 soldiers had actually left the region.
Ukrainian officials said the announced retreat might be an effort to lure Ukrainian soldiers
into the region for a surprise attack.
The Ukrainian military has reported that it has successfully reclaimed
about 60 square miles of territory in that Kershan region.
And that'll do it for today's episode.
