I'm Samantha Sherris. I'm Virginia Allen. And this is the Daily Signal Top News for Friday, April 21st.
Here are today's headlines. Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis touted his anti-lockdown policies during the COVID-19 pandemic as the key to Florida's economic success after the pandemic, slamming the ideology of former National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Director Anthony Fauci as Fauciism. Desanta spoke at the her.
Heritage Foundation's 50th anniversary leadership summit. The Daily Signal, of course, is the news outlet
of the Heritage Foundation. Let's take a listen to some of a DeSantis' speech from today.
Fauciism was wrong. Fauciism was destructive. Fauciism was responsible for students being
locked out of school throughout this country for a year. Fauciism was responsible for people
being forced to take Vax.
Fauciism was responsible for putting us on a path to some of the economic problems that we see now.
We can never let that happen to our country again.
DeSantis also subtly criticized former President Donald Trump, who has accused the governor of closing
down his state for a long period of time.
DeSantis noted that after he won the governor's mansion by a razor-thin margin in 2018,
Analyst told him to tread lightly, to trim my sails, not to rock the boat, kind of keep my head down.
He rejected that advice and went on to get ahead of public opinion and advance a conservative agenda that would take Florida in a great direction.
The Republican Party is not ready to face the challenges of the Great Awakening.
That's according to Republican Senator Josh Hawley of Missouri.
Holly gave remarks also at Heritage's 50th anniversary celebration and detailed the threats America is facing.
All of the challenges that we face, I think the one that may be the most pressing, the most dangerous,
is the challenge of the new radical left and the new brand of Marxism that they have embraced.
But according to Holly, the Republican Party, as we have known it for the last,
30 years is not prepared for the challenge. The Republican Party must be transformed.
Holly said that in the post-Cold War air, after the United States defeated the Soviet Union,
most Republicans embraced global trade at the expense of working and middle-class Americans.
Holly noted that GOP President George H.W. Bush talked about open borders, open trade,
open mines after the fall of the Soviet Union. He referred to the United. He referred to the
the Northern American Free Trade Agreement and allowing China to join the World Trade Organization.
Holly said the politics of the New World Order have failed. Economic globalism has failed.
Liberal imperialism has failed. He also said those policies have cost millions of working class
and middle class jobs, saying this is the great awakening. The Soviet Union lost the Cold War,
thank God, but Marxism lives on.
American foreign policy should promote our national interests, but according to Ohio Senator J.D. Vance,
the president's progressive politics isn't allowing that to happen. Vance also gave remarks at the Heritage Foundation's 50th anniversary leadership summit.
Vance said that although the greatest threat facing America is a Chinese invasion of Taiwan,
President Joe Biden is sending U.S. foreign aid to Ukraine. Vance said right now, you know, that Joe Biden is not.
sending weapons to Taiwan, weapons that we promised the Taiwanese, because we're sending those
weapons to Ukraine or elsewhere. Vance continued, the thing that we need to prevent more than anything
is a Chinese invasion of Taiwan. It would be catastrophic for this country. It would decimate
our entire economy. It would throw this country into a great depression. Though Vance said he
admires the brave people of Ukraine, he said America should remove troops and resources from Ukraine.
Vance said, let's not mistake the courage of Ukrainian troops on the ground with the fact that they have the most corrupt leadership and corrupt government in Europe and maybe the most corrupt leadership anywhere in the world.
Today or tomorrow, the Supreme Court is expected to announce a decision on the abortion pill.
After a lower court ruled that the Food and Drug Administration was wrong to approve the abortion drug Miffa Pristone,
the Biden administration asked the Supreme Court to pause the lower court's decision.
Now, the nine justices will decide whether the pill can continue to be used by women to have abortions,
or if the pill will be banned while the case continues to move through the courts.
The court was originally going to make his decision on the abortion pill by Wednesday,
but then extended the deadline to tonight.
More than half of all abortions in America are conducted using the two-pill abortion regimen.
Miphyprisone, the pill that may be banned, is the first drug women take.
The pill blocks the baby in the womb from receiving the hormone progesterone.
Without progesterone, the lining of the uterus deteriorates, ultimately resulting in the unborn child's death.
The second pill in the regiment is misopristal, which causes a woman to have contractions that eventually expel the dead baby from her uterus.
Pro-abortion advocates say the pill, Missa-pristol, could still be used to conduct abortion.
without Mifipus Stone. The complication risk, though, do increase for women.
The Associated Press reports that the U.S. will start training Ukrainian forces on using and
maintaining Abrams tanks in the near future. The 31 tanks will arrive in Germany at the end of
May, and training will begin a few weeks after. The Associated Press also reports. As you'll recall,
President Joe Biden announced back on January 25th that he is sending 31M1 Abrams
tanks to Ukraine, and that Germany would also be sending Ukraine 13 Leopard 2 tanks.
Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and the Ukrainian defense minister met on Friday.
Let's take a listen to some of Austin's comments via the secretary's Twitter.
And that'll do it for today's episode.
