Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm Jilline Richards. I'm Samantha O'Sheris. And this is the Daily Signal Top News for Monday, October 17th. Here are today's headlines. That's the sound of confusion and panic in Kiev on Monday, as Russia bombarded Ukraine's capital city with a series of drone strikes per radio-free Europe. It's reported that 28 drones hit the city of Kiev. The drone strikes have killed at least four people, including a pregnant woman. The drones, Russia, used against a gas.
Starting point is 00:00:48 against Ukraine are Iranian-made. They are small and precise in their targeting and designed to blow up on impact. They are also inexpensive. According to the Hill, the drones only cost about $20,000 a piece, whereas Russia's caliber cruise missiles cost about $1 million each. Some Ukrainian soldiers and police officers use their guns to try to shoot down the drones. The attack comes a week after Russia began increasing its attacks on civilian targets. China's Communist Party Congress is underway. The meeting began yesterday and is expected to last a week. Xi Jinping is expected to be reappointed for the next five years.
Starting point is 00:01:30 He has been in power for a decade. The Communist Party Congress is anticipated to reaffirm a commitment to Xi Jinping's policies during the meeting. The Chinese leader said under his rule the past five years, people's lives and health have been protected from COVID-19. He also said the Chinese government had successfully moved Hong Kong from chaos to governance. So far, the meetings appear to show that the West can expect more of the same from the Chinese Communist Party moving forward. Kanye West is making moves to buy the social media platform Parlor.
Starting point is 00:02:03 In a statement released by Parlor, West said, In a world where conservative opinions are considered to be controversial, we have to make sure we have the right to freely express ourselves. The move to buy the conservative social media platform comes after West was suspended from Instagram and Twitter for making anti-Semitic comments. Of course, this news comes amid Elon Musk's efforts to buy Twitter for $44 billion. That deal continues to remain in question. The details of Parlor's deal with West have not yet been released. And that'll do it for today's episode.
