I'm Jilline Richards.
And I'm John Pop.
And this is the Daily Signal Top News for Monday, September 26.
Here are today's headlines.
Lawmakers are speaking out after a team of FBI agents raided the home of a pro-life advocate and speaker, Mark Hauk, Friday morning, and arrested him in front of his wife and seven children.
Hauk was charged with assaulting a volunteer outside an abortion clinic in Philadelphia, where Hauk would drive two hours every Wednesday to do sidewalk counseling.
Hauke's wife, Ryan Marie, told LifeSight News that he would sometimes bring their 12-year-old son to the clinic,
where this volunteer repeatedly harassed their son.
On one occasion, the man got into their son's personal space, and Mark shoved him away from his child,
and the guy fell back, said Ryan Marie.
She said about 25 to 30 armed FBI agents came to their home Friday morning and arrested Hauk.
He now faces felony charges for violating.
the Freedom of Access to Entrances or Face Act, which means Hauk could face 11 years in prison
and fines up to $350,000. Representative Chip Roy, a Texas Republican, told the Daily Signal today,
the FBI should immediately answer for its apparent use of a 25-to-30-person SWAT team with guns
drawn to target Mark Hauk, a pro-life father of seven, for allegedly shoving a guy in front of an abortion
clinic, while he maintains he was defending his 12-year-old son.
Roy continues,
This appears to be nothing less than a brazen continuation of the abuse of power by federal
authorities against average American citizens that must stop.
We owe the American people congressional hearings to provide public and transparent
accountability for any and all wrongdoing.
Even further, the FBI needs a complete and total overhaul to return primary law enforcement.
power to the states and to get the Bureau out of the business of politics once and for all.
In a Monday afternoon letter, Republican Missouri Senator Josh Hawley called on Attorney General Merrick Garland
to explain why Biden's DOJ is arresting Catholic protesters like terrorists, complete with
SWAT-style tactics, while letting actual terrorists go unpunished.
The FBI confirmed that a team was sent to arrest Hauk at his house this Friday.
Edward Snowden, who leaked scores of classified documents, has been given Russian citizenship by Vladimir Putin, according to multiple reports.
He had previously been granted permanent residency in Russia in 2020 per Axios.
In 2016, the House Intelligence Committee released a report on Snowden's leaks, writing,
Snowden caused tremendous damage to national security, and the vast majority of the documents he stole have nothing to do with programs impacting individual privacy interests.
They instead pertained to military, defense and intelligence programs of great interest to America's adversaries.
If he ever returned to the U.S., Snowden, who has been living in Russia close to a decade now, would face charges of espionage.
Sunday exit polls show Georgia Maloney is set to win Italy's general election for prime minister.
Maloney founded the Brothers of Italy Party, which is known as a far-right populist group.
As Fox News reports, if Maloney wins, she would be Italy's first woman prime minister and the most far-right Italian premier since World War II.
Politico reports that an alliance of far-right parties are expected to form a governing coalition, led by Maloney, with around 44% of the vote.
Throughout her campaign, she has emphasized the value of womanhood and motherhood.
She especially articulated this in a 2019 speech.
Jin shared a clip of her speech with English subtitles on Twitter this morning.
Maloney says, why is the family an enemy? Because it defines us. Because it is our identity.
Those who would like us to no longer have an identity and to simply be perfect consumer slaves
attack national identity. They attack religious identity. They attack gender identity. They attack
family identity. Maloney continued, I can't define myself as an Italian, Christian, woman,
mother, I must be citizen X, gender X, parent one, or parent two. I must be a number, because when I am only a
number, when I no longer have an identity or roots, then I will be the perfect slave of financial speculators.
What do voters think of Republican governors sending migrants to Democratic areas? Unsurprisingly,
most Democratic voters 80% oppose it, according to a new CBSUgov poll. But it's overwhelmingly
popular among Republicans with 87% approving and among independents, sentiments are split.
52% of independents oppose the move while 48% approve. The issue is drawn attention in recent
weeks as migrants have been sent to New York City, Washington, D.C., and Martha's Vineyard.
