I'm Jillian Richards.
I'm Samantha Sherris.
And this is the Daily Signal Top News for Thursday, October 26.
Here are today's headlines.
A U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis Report found that the U.S. GDP increased by a 2.6% annual rate in the third quarter of this year.
My colleague Samantha Escheris reports that this percentage exceeded some economist predictions.
But E.J. Antony, an economist here at the Heritage Foundation, isn't too optimistic.
Antony says that far from an indicator of growth, today's GDP,
report signals decline. Consumer spending and business investment combined actually contributed
negative 0.62 percentage points to GDP. And Tony adds, Americans are steadily becoming poorer
under Biden, and in the third quarter, we're able to afford fewer imports from abroad.
Pennsylvania House Republicans are trying to impeach Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner
on his soft-on-crime policies. The Wall Street Journal of
reports that Representative Martina White, a Republican, is leading the effort to impeach
Krasner. Representative White introduced the articles of impeachment against Krasner this
Wednesday. Listen to her remarks here. Larry Krasner is the top law enforcement official
who is supposed to be representing the interests of our Commonwealth in Philadelphia criminal
cases. His dereliction of duty and despicable behavior is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.
This is why I have introduced articles of impeachment against District Attorney Larry Krasner.
I anticipate and am asking for bipartisan support in co-sponsoring House Resolution 240.
About 40 House Republicans are calling on Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin to repeal his policy of using government funds to cover the travel costs of abortion.
Texas Representative Chip Roy, a Republican, spearheaded a letter that was sent to Austin this one.
This comes a week after the Department of Defense released a memo titled Ensuring Access to Reproductive Health Care.
Roy said the memo directs the unprecedented use of American taxpayer dollars to facilitate abortions for service members and their families,
against the wishes of the American people from all walks of life.
Roy argues in his Wednesday letter that Secretary Austin's decision to bypass Congress and establish a Department of Defense,
abortion travel fund flies in the face of nearly a half-century of bipartisan consensus
to respect the sincere beliefs of millions of pro-life Americans.
The Republicans conclude the letter by demanding Austin revoke the policy immediately.
The Democrat-led Congressional Hispanic Caucus blocked Texas Representative Myra Flores from joining
the group.
Flores, a Latino Republican, told Fox News yesterday that she thought the Hispanic caucus
would be open to working with her as the first Mexican-born American Congresswoman.
Check out her comments she shared on Laura Ingram's Fox News show yesterday.
Congressman Flores, let's start with you.
Today we learn that the Congressional Hispanic Caucus is officially rejecting your membership
and the Congressional Hispanic Caucus because you're not a Democrat.
This has to be something from one of the, you know, comedy or, you know, sarcastic websites out there, yes?
Or is it true?
It's true. I was born in Burgos, Tamalipas, Mexico. On June 14, I became the first Mexican-born Congresswoman ever elected in Congress, and that's not good enough for them.
And this just shows that they're not for the Hispanic community. They're just there for their political party.
How were you informed that you were not welcome in their club?
Over the phone.
Who was it over the phone? Is it a congressman's office?
It was their office. Their office.
Who's office?
The Hispanic caucus.
Yeah.
So no bienvenitos to you.
No.
That's just not, not, not, not.
But you know, I don't need them.
The Hispanic community doesn't need them.
We are the real voice.
We are the voice of the Hispanic community.
And we stand for the values that we were raised with.
God, family, and hard work.
That is what we are all about.
The Biden administration announced yesterday that almost one billion dollars in awards,
and awards will go to school districts that will replace gas-fueled school buses with electric models.
Per Reuters, this funding is part of a $5 billion clean bus spending package
that the Environmental Protection Agency will shell out over five years.
According to the White House, this program will fund almost 2,500 new school buses,
95% of which will be electric.
Elon Musk revealed on Twitter this morning why he decided to buy 20% of the school buses,
Twitter, my colleagues, Jillian Richards and Tyler O'Neill report.
According to Musk, it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square,
where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner.
He noted the growing polarization online.
Musk argues that traditional media has largely fueled this divide,
and in doing so, the opportunity for dialogue has been lost.
Musk bought Twitter for $44 billion, and he will acquire the platform tomorrow.
