Starting point is 00:00:31 I'm Virginia Allen. And I'm Doug Blair. And this is the Daily Signal Top News for Monday, September 19th. Here are today's top headlines. Senate Republicans want more transparency in the investigation of Hunter Biden. A group of 33 GOP senators, including John Cornyn of Texas and Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, have sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland. In the letter, they asked Garland to grant the prosecutor investigating Hunter Biden
Starting point is 00:01:11 special counsel authority. Special counsel authority would give the prosecutor on the case more power to investigate and prosecute Hunter Biden. Delaware U.S. attorney David Weiss is conducting the probe into the president's son, but the senators say there may have been political interference into the probe. Reports from what the senators call a highly credible whistleblower reveal that there have been efforts within the FBI to bury negative information about Hunter Biden. The investigation into Biden is intended to look into charges of tax violations and possible foreign lobbying violations, among other things. It's unclear whether or not Garland will take any action on the Senator's request.
Starting point is 00:01:59 An illegal migrant took her own life on Sunday at a shelter in New York City. During a press conference earlier today, New York City Mayor Eric Adams was asked if the shelter workers in the city were to blame for the tragic incident. Mayor said no, and instead placed blame at the feet of Texas Governor Greg Abbott, per the New York City Mayor's office. The failure was the governors that sent people on a multi-day bus ride without proper food, without medical care, without the basic necessities, telling them they had to be treated as inhumane way. That's the failure. New York City has opened 23 emergency shops. shelters to help house the more than 10,000 illegal migrants that have arrived in the city since May.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Abbott said on Twitter Tuesday that under his leadership, more than 11,000 migrants have been bused to sanctuary cities around the country. The life of Queen Elizabeth II was grieved and honored today, per the Washington Post. A choir sang as the Queen's casket entered Westminster Abbey, her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, processing into the church behind the pallbearers. About 500 foreign dignitaries and world leaders were in attendance at the funeral, including President Biden and the First Lady.
Starting point is 00:03:32 The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, spoke of the Queen's dedication and honored her 70 years of service during the funeral. Her late majesty famously declared on a 21st birthday broadcast that her whole life would be dedicated to serving the nation and Commonwealth. Rarely has such a promise been so well kept. The funeral concludes 10 days of mourning across England,
Starting point is 00:04:05 tens of thousands gathered on the streets of London to say their final goodbyes to the Queen. Her final resting place is St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle, where she will be laid to rest beside other members of the royal family. A Jewish college in New York City will not be pressured into having an LGBT club on campus. Yeshiva University told its students over the weekend that it was suspending all campus clubs to protect its religious freedom. The controversy began when Yeshiva University Pride Alliance applied to be recognized as a formal club on campus.
Starting point is 00:04:39 The college denied its application. Then the pro-LGB alliance sued the college, saying that the denial violated New York City's human rights law. A state court ordered the university to recognize the LGBT student organization. Then last week, the Supreme Court weighed in on the case and lifted the temporary hold on a court order, in turn requiring the college to recognize the LGBT group as a campus club. But instead of violating its religious convictions while court proceedings continue, the college has decided to shut down all of its clubs.
Starting point is 00:05:09 This case is ongoing, so the daily signal will keep you all posted on what happens next. And that'll do it for today's episode.
