Starting point is 00:00:02 I'm Jillian Richards. And I'm John Pop. And this is the Daily Signal top news for Friday, September 23rd. Here are today's headlines. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy spoke about the commitment to America agenda in Menongahela, Pennsylvania today. McCarthy said part of the plan which House Republicans unveiled Thursday is to build a nation that's safe. That means your community will be protected. Your law enforcement will be respected.
Starting point is 00:00:42 Your criminals will be prosecuted. He said, adding, we believe in a future that's built on freedom that your children come first. Here's McCarthy on Fox News. Our job is to work for you, not go after you. Our job is to make America stronger. We believe America's more than a country. America's an idea. We can secure our border.
Starting point is 00:01:07 We could become energy independent where your price of gas is lower. We can build an education system that has a parents' business. bill of rights that you have a say in your kids education. And we could be a check and balance on the reign in this government that's going after the individuals. If you believe like us, join with us. Because this job won't be easy. We'll get it through the house. We need your help to get it all the way to his desk. Senator Josh Hawley, a Missouri Republican, has called on Google to explain why it seems to have throttled online outreach to crisis pregnancy centers. As my colleague Mary Margaret Olinan reports, Holly is concerned Google is deliberately
Starting point is 00:01:49 limiting pregnancy resource centers outreach efforts. The Daily Signal was the first to obtain a letter that Holly wrote to Google in which he said pregnancy resource centers in Missouri seek to reach women considering abortion. These centers, the senator argues, offer women alternatives to abortion and support them during and after pregnancy. Holly writes that pregnancy centers in his home state asked Google about the steep decline in online traffic they've recently experienced on their websites. Apparently, Google told these centers some of their ads aren't eligible to show for keywords that relate to restricted products or services.
Starting point is 00:02:28 Holly told Google that he's concerned the company is deliberately limiting pregnancy resource centers outreach efforts under the guise of providing clarity in search results. By doing so, Holly writes, Google has joined the Far Left's campaign to punish pregnancy resource centers, following the Supreme Court's ruling in Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization earlier this year. As previously reported by the Daily Signal and Catholic Vote Tracker, 72 or more crisis
Starting point is 00:02:57 pregnancy centers were v. v. attacked following the leak of the Supreme Court's draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson this May. Holly mentions in his letter the 17 state attorneys general who warned Google against letting left-wing political pressure influence search results. Senator Ron Johnson, a Wisconsin Republican, sent a letter to YouTube CEO this week demanding an explanation for the company's troubling track record of censorship. In his letter, Johnson highlights two instances where Google suspended his own channel. The first case was June 2021, when Johnson suggested hydroxychloroquine and ivermectin as alternative treatments to COVID. Johnson was also suspended in November after he posted.
Starting point is 00:03:43 a video about a database reporting adverse effects of the COVID vaccine. As Johnson writes in his letter, Your company has suspended me twice for advocating for the early treatment of COVID-19, opposing vaccine mandates for children and workers, and advocating for the vaccine injured. He asked YouTube to send any comments and emails relating to his suspension and the company's COVID misinformation policy by October 5th. Planned Parenthood updated its website to match Stacey Abrams comments about fetal heartbeats this Thursday.
Starting point is 00:04:18 Abrams, a Democratic candidate for governor in Georgia, remarked on Georgia's law which bans most abortions around six weeks, usually when cardiac activity is detected. She said there's no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks. Here's Abrams posted by GOP War Room. There is no such thing as a heartbeat at six weeks. It is a manufactured cell designed. to convince people that men have the right to take control of the woman's body away from them. The Washington Examiner reports that shortly after Abrams' comments were circulated,
Starting point is 00:04:51 Planned Parenthood updated its website to say, A part of the embryo starts to show cardiac activity by five to six weeks. But Planned Parenthood now says this only sounds like a heartbeat on an ultrasound, but it's not a fully formed heart. It's the earliest stage of the heart developing. As the Washington examiner found, an archive of the same page in July stated that a very basic heart and circulatory system developed when a fetus is five to six weeks old.
