I'm Gillian Richards.
I'm Samantha Sherris.
And this is the Daily Signal Top News for Thursday, October 20th.
Here are today's headlines.
British Prime Minister Liz Truss announced today that she's resigning.
Trust has been in office for just six weeks.
In a statement outside her office earlier today, she said,
I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.
Trust said she'll remain in office until a new prime minister is chosen.
The Associated Press
reports that bitterly divided Conservative Party lawmakers
have just a few days to agree on a successor
or face another leadership contest, the third in three years.
Heritage Foundation scholar Nile Gardner said on Fox News
that were witnessing a political coup within Britain's Conservative Party.
Listen to his remarks.
It had been expected that Liz Truss would resign,
although the speed of her resignation, I think,
has taken most people by surprise.
And so she has gone, I think, earlier than expected.
And this then sets off a leadership contest,
which will take place in the course of the next few days.
But what we are witnessing here really has been, frankly,
a political coup within the Conservative Party
with a large number of Conservative MPs
on the left of the party trying to force her out.
They have succeeded in doing so.
And also at the same time, of course,
the British government has faced a wave of attacks
from the IMF, from President Biden, from all sorts of corners.
And so Liz Truss actually felt that she could no longer lead the Conservative Party.
She backtracked and U-turned over a series of tax cuts, which in my view, I think, was a huge
mistake because once she gave concessions to the left, she gravely weakened her position,
undermined her own position.
The CDC unanimously voted to add the COVID vaccine to the recommended list of the recommended
list of vaccines for children. Fifteen members of the CDC's advisory committee made this decision on
Wednesday. One member of the panel, Dr. Sarah Oliver, said the incorporation of the COVID-19 vaccine
in the immunization schedule and the vaccines for children program is an important step in the inclusion
of COVID-19 vaccines in a routine vaccination program. According to the CDC, the agency's
immunization schedule is a guideline that states may choose to adopt, though it is not mandated nationwide.
The CDC website says some states may require children to get the COVID vaccine to attend school.
This decision follows controversy over the effectiveness of the COVID vaccine, particularly for children.
National Review reports that some Republican-led states such as Florida have assured residents
that the COVID vaccine will not be mandated for children.
A federal appeals court ruled that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's funding method is unconstitutional.
The Daily Caller reports that a three-judge panel of the Fifth U.S. Circuit Court ruled Wednesday that the Bureau lacks significant methods of accountability and violates the Constitution's separation of powers.
According to the court's ruling, Congress unconstitutionally gave the Bureau power of the purse in 2011.
Democratic Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren helped form the Bureau as a result of the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act.
of 2010. Protesters shouted down at New York representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at her
town hall meeting last night. The Daily Caller reports that Ocasio-Cortez was hosting a listening
forum event in a suburb of Queens when a group of protesters started shouting, AOC has got to go.
Some held up signs, some of these read F. Joe Biden and wake up New York. Here's a clip posted
by Freedom News. And that'll do it for today's episode. Thank you for listening. Thank you for
