I'm Virginia Allen.
And I'm John Pop.
And this is the Daily Signal's top news for Friday, October 7th.
Here are today's headlines.
The mayor of New York City has declared a state of emergency.
Mayor Eric Adams announced Friday that there is a humanitarian crisis of asylum seekers in the Big Apple.
Adam says every day new records are being set for the number of asylum seekers arriving in New York City, per the New York City mayor's office.
My fellow New York is.
We are in a crisis situation.
New York City now has more than 61,000 people in our shelter system.
That includes thousands of New Yorkers experiencing homelessness
and thousands of asylum seekers who have been bust in over the past few months
from other parts of the country.
Almost 20,000 are children,
and one in five of them.
is an asylum seeker.
The mayor says that since April,
more than 17,000 migrants have been bused into the Big Apple.
The numbers the mayor says are not sustainable.
42 hotels are now being used as emergency shelters
for the illegal aliens in New York City,
and 5,500 migrant children are now attending public schools in the city.
Adam says the Sanctuary City policies of New York City
are being taken advantage of by politicians.
Our right to shelter laws, our social services, and our values are being exploited by others for political gain.
New Yorkers are angry. I am angry too. We have not asked for this. There was never any agreement to take on the job of supporting thousands of asylum seekers.
This responsibility was simply handed to us without warning as buses began showing up.
asked for help from the federal government and called on leaders to craft bipartisan immigration
reform legislation. Exactly how serious is Russia's nuclear threat right now? According to President
Biden, it's very serious. Speaking at a fundraiser Thursday night, Biden said Russian President
Vladimir Putin was not joking when he referenced using nuclear weapons. Biden went on to say,
we have not faced the prospect of Armageddon since Kennedy and the Cuban missile crisis,
implying that we might be facing a similar situation today.
On Friday, the White House said there is no new intelligence to indicate that Russia plans to use a nuclear weapon in the immediate future.
White House Press Secretary Karene Jean-Pierre told reporters on Air Force One that we have not seen any reason to adjust our own strategic nuclear posture,
nor do we have indications that Russia is preparing to immediately use nuclear weapons.
Two weeks ago, the FBI raided the home of pro-life activist Mark Halk in Pennsylvania.
Now Republican Congressman Jim Jordan of Ohio and Mike Johnson of Louisiana are launching a congressional inquiry into the Justice Department.
In a letter first obtained by the Daily Signal, the congressman wrote to Attorney General Merrick Garland and U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Jacqueline Romero.
They write several recent actions by the Department.
reinforce the conclusion that the Justice Department is using its federal law enforcement
authority as a weapon against the administration's political opponents. The inquiry will look at the
DOJ's political enforcement of what is known as the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act,
or the Face Act. The Face Act prohibits the intentional damage or destruction of a reproductive
health care facility. The congressmen say that since the leak of the Dobbs case, the DOJ has
politicized enforcement of the Face Act.
The two congressmen say they will conduct oversight of the authorization of the raid on the
pro-life leader's home.
The situation is to be continued.
Republican Nebraska Senator Ben Sass is reportedly retiring soon.
News broke Thursday that the senator is taking a job as president of the University of Florida.
SAS was re-elected in 2020 and was set to be in office until his term expired in 2027.
The University of Florida announced Thursday SASS is their sole finalist for their new presidential position.
SAS is expected to step down after the midterm elections.
Under state law, Nebraska governor Pete Ricketts, would then appoint a replacement until a special
election is held for the seat in 2024.
The rapper Kanye West says he is proudly pro-life.
West sat down with Fox News host Tucker Carlson in an interview that premiered Thursday night.
West was wearing a lanyard around his neck that had an ultrasound
photo of a baby at the end of it. Tucker asked Wes about the photo and here's what the rapper had to say
per Fox News. The lanyar is still on from it and there's a photograph on it. What is that? It's a photograph
of a baby's ultrasound. Why is that and that you designed that? Yes. Why? What does that mean?
It just represents life and pro life. Boy, so you wear it on a badge. What kind of response to you?
And amen, I agree. I don't care about people's responses. I care about
the fact that there's more black babies being aborted than born in New York City at this point.
That 50% of black death in America is abortion. So I really don't care about people's responses.
I perform for an audience of one, and that's God.
West, now known as Ye has spoken out about his pro-life views in the past and has gained
international attention for many of his views.
