I'm Virginia Allen and I'm Mary Margaret O'Lahan.
And this is the Daily Signal Top News for Wednesday, September 21st.
Here are today's headlines.
President Biden spoke at the United Nations General Assembly in New York City today.
The president rebuked Russian President Vladimir Putin for his aggression against Ukraine.
He also reaffirmed America's support to defend Ukraine's sovereignty per C-SPAN.
Ukraine has the same rights that belong to every sovereign nation.
We will stand in solidarity with Ukraine.
We will stand in solidarity against Russia's aggression, period.
The president also stressed the need for all nations to recommit to the nuclear non-proliferation regime through diplomacy.
A nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought.
The five permanent members of the Security Council just reaffirmed that commitment in general.
January. But today, we're seeing disturbing trends. Russia shun the non-proliferation
ideals embraced by every other nation at the 10th NPT review conference. And again, today,
as I said, they're making irresponsible nuclear threats to use nuclear weapons.
Russia is one of five permanent members on the UN National Security Council, but Biden stopped
short of calling for Russia to be removed from the council.
Head Start child care workers will not be required to wear masks or be vaccinated.
A federal judge today struck down a Biden administration mandate that would have required
head start staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19 and wear masks at work.
U.S. District Judge Terry A. Doty issued a permanent injunction on the mandate.
The judge wrote in his decision that there would be a substantial threat of irreparable injury
unless the mandate were blocked.
The decision is a win for the group of.
of Head Start teachers and state governments who filed the lawsuit to block the requirement.
The New York City Attorney General has filed a civil suit against former president Donald Trump
and his three adult children. The allegations center around business fraud. New York Attorney
General Letitia James says Trump's company misled investors by claiming properties were worth
more than they were in order to get investments. James claims that Trump then turned around
and misled tax authorities deflating the value of his properties to get loans and tax benefits.
The lawsuit against Trump, Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Eric Trump is seeking $250 million
in financial penalties. James is also asking the court to prevent Trump and his adult kids
from serving as a director or officer in any registered or licensed corporation in New York.
Donald Trump Jr. responded to the announcement about the lawsuit today,
writing on Twitter, this is all about politics, weaponizing her office to go after her political opponents.
To be continued.
Republican Senator Josh Hawley is calling on Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to step down.
Holly is demanding Majorcas resign over intentional disregard for the crisis at the southern border.
The call for Mayorkas to resign comes after customs and border protection reported that CBP agents have encountered more
than two million migrants during this fiscal year. Holly wrote a letter to Majorcas that was first reported
by Fox News today. In the letter, Holly told Majorcas that the surge of illegals coming across the border
was the predictable result of your open border policies. Your intentional disregard for our country's
immigration laws makes you unfit to remain in office, the senator said. You should resign.
Holly also said that Majorcas's open border policies have contributed to the fentanyl crisis we are
facing across the nation. Democrats continue to promote abortion. House Democrats have introduced a
bill that would require the military to give service members leave to obtain abortions. The bill is called
the Access to Reproductive Care for Service Members Act. Democrat Representative Jackie Spire of
California is backing the bill and says abortion access should be a right, not a privilege. If passed,
the bill would require the Department of Defense to cover traffic.
costs for a service member to obtain an abortion in the nearest state that offers them.
We will certainly keep you all posted on this bill if it does move forward in the house.
