And this is the Daily Signal top news for Friday, September 30th.
Here are today's headlines.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced today that he will annex almost one-fifth of Ukraine.
Putin made these remarks at the Kremlin, saying he would turn the millions of Ukrainians living there into Russian citizens forever.
According to NBC News, this is the largest annexation of territory in Europe since World War II.
Zelensky said in a video,
posted by CNN today, Ukraine demands punishment for trying to steal our territory. NBC News reports
that Russian authorities staged votes in occupied regions of Ukraine to justify stealing more of their
territory. Putin arranged these votes last week after he enlisted reservists to aid in Russia's
military presence in Ukraine. In response, the Biden administration announced new sanctions today
that will target the Russian government and military officials,
as well as their families.
CNN reported today that President Biden called the Nord Stream pipeline leaks an act of sabotage.
Biden did not directly accuse Moscow of the sabotage, but said Russian President Vladimir Putin
has been pumping out disinformation and lies.
Listen to Biden's comments posted by Bloomberg this afternoon.
It was a deliberate act of sabotage, and now the Russians are pumping out
disinformation lies. We're in work with our allies to get to the bottom exactly what
precisely would happen. And as my direction, I've already begun to help our allies enhance
the protection of this critical infrastructure. California Governor Gavin Newsom signed a bill this
Thursday, which will make California an official sanctuary state for children and teens seeking
gender reassignment treatment across state lines. This law allows children and teens from out of state
to obtain puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and gender reassignment surgery without their
parents' knowledge. It'll give California courts the power to take custody over people's
children from out of state. The bill prohibits doctors from disclosing medical information
relating to a child's gender identity, even if that information is sought via subpoena by the
child's home state. California doctors can even prescribe cross-sex hormones to kids living in other
states via telehealth appointments. President of the Family Policy Alliance, Craig DeRosch,
remarked that Newsom's arrogance is no longer just a threat to California. It is a threat to every
governor's authority, every state's boundaries, every parent's rights and responsibilities, and, worst
of all, to every child. National Review reports that Judge James Ho of the U.S. Court of Appeals for
the Fifth Circuit announced he will no longer hire clerks from Yale Law School because of its
cancel culture. The judge shared these remarks in a Kentucky Federalist Society conference yesterday.
Ho noted the growing trend of speakers being shouted down or censored by elite schools.
He singled out Yale law as one particular law school where cancellations and disruptions
seemed to occur with special frequency.
He argued that the school has set the tone for the legal profession.
Judge Ho urged other judges to follow suit, adding that if lawyers want the closed and intolerant environment that Yale embraces today, that's their call, but I want nothing to do with it.
New York Governor Kathy Hokel announced Thursday that she's enforcing regulations on new vehicles sold in the state to reach zero emissions by 2035.
According to NBC, Hockel's call comes almost a month after California banned the sale of new gas-powered cars starting in 2035.
NBC reports that this is a crucial step in New York's goal of lowering greenhouse gas emissions 85% by 2050.
Hogle pulled up in an electric car before giving her Thursday speech.
Check out her remarks which she shared on her YouTube channel.
In York, every week is climate week.
This is not a new phenomenon.
Every week is climate week.
And we're committed to protecting our environment and combating climate change every single day.
But in particular, this is actually National Drive Electric Week.
So there's a week for everything, but this is National Drive Electric Week.
So really, you know, the electric vehicles are the keys to achieving this.
And that'll do it for today's episode.
