Starting point is 00:00:01 I'm Virginia Allen and I'm Jillian Richards. And this is the Daily Signal's top news for Monday, November 21st. Here are today's headlines. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy says if given the opportunity, he will block three Democrats from joining any committees in the next Congress. McCarthy joined Fox News on Sunday to discuss how he would lead as the next speaker of the House. On his agenda is ensuring Democratic representatives Eric Swalwell, Adam Schiff, and Ilhan Omar don't sit on any committees. Eric Swalwell cannot get a security clearance in the public sector.
Starting point is 00:00:50 Why would we ever give him a security clearance in the secrets to America? So I will not allow him to be on Intel. You have Adam Schiff to add lied to the American public time and again. We will not allow him to be on the Intel Committee either. And you look, Congresswoman Omar, her anti-Semitic comments that have gone forward, we're not going to allow her to be on foreign affairs. Congresswoman Omar fired back at McCarthy, saying, from the moment I was elected, the Republican Party has made it their mission to use fear, xenophobia, Islamophobia, and racism to target me on the House floor and through millions of dollars of campaign ads. McCarthy's effort to repeatedly single me out for scorn and hatred, including threatening to strip me from my committee, does nothing to address the issues our constituents deal with.
Starting point is 00:01:40 The new Congress will begin in January. The man who shot up an LGBT nightclub over the weekend is facing multiple murder charges and hate crime charges. A gunman walked into Club Q in Colorado Springs late Saturday night. He opened fire and killed five people, including a bartender named Daniel Aston. 25 others were injured. Now the shooter is reported to be facing five counts of a bias-motivated crime that caused bodily injury and five counts of murder. Two people in the nightclub stopped the shooter before police arrived.
Starting point is 00:02:18 Bartender Michael Anderson survived the incident, and he told CNN that he saw who he believed to be the gunman lying on the ground, getting beat up and kicked and yelled at by two very brave people. A group of doctors and medical organizations are suing the Food and Drug Administration over its approval of chemical abortion drugs. The Christian Legal Organization Alliance Defending Freedom filed a federal lawsuit Friday on behalf of the Alliance of Hippocratic Medicine, the American Association of Pro-Life OBGYNs, the American College of Pediatricians, the Christian Medical and Dental Associations, and for doctors,
Starting point is 00:02:58 all of whom have experience in caring for pregnant and post-abortive women. Alliance Defending Freedom says the FDA chose politics over science when it pushed for the legalization, of the chemical abortion drugs. The legal group argues that the FDA never studied the safety of the drugs under the labeled conditions of use and ignored substantial evidence that chemical abortion drugs cause more complications than surgical abortions. The lawsuit claims the FDA eliminated necessary safeguards for pregnant girls and women who undergo this dangerous drug regimen.
Starting point is 00:03:35 We'll keep you all posted on this case as it moves through the courts. The pardoning of a turkey is a White House tradition at Thanksgiving. Today, President Biden stood on the south lawn of the White House and cracked a few puns as he pardoned the two big white birds. He even made a joke about the failed red wave during the midterm elections, per now this. The votes are in. They've been counted and verified. There's no ballot stuffing. There's no foul play.
Starting point is 00:04:03 The only red wave this season is going to be a German Shepherd commander in Knoxville. over the cranberry sauce on our table. That will cause, there are big turkeys, aren't they? My fellow Americans, please welcome the 2022 National Thanksgiving turkeys, chocolate and chip. The two turkeys, named chocolate and chip, will spend the rest of their days at North Carolina State University. Disney fired its CEO over the weekend. On Sunday, Disney's board chairman Susan Arnold released a statement announcing the decision
Starting point is 00:04:40 to oust the CEO and bring their old CEO back. Arnold said, we thank Bob Chapic for his service to Disney over his long career, including navigating the company through the unprecedented challenges of the pandemic. Chapic was CEO for less than two years. Now Disney's former CEO, Robert Iger, is coming back to take the reins of the company. Board Chairman Arnold said Iger is uniquely situated to lead the company through this pivotal period. The firing of Cheapik comes after Disney released its disappointing fourth quarter earnings. Despite revenue at the theme parks recovering after the pandemic, Disney's streaming platform
Starting point is 00:05:21 continues to struggle, having lost nearly $1.5 billion. Chapik also publicly fought with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis after Chapik announced his opposition to a bill that banned teachers in third grade or below from instructing students on matters related to sexual orientation and gender identity. Disney stock rose about six points on Monday with the announcement of the change in leadership. And that'll do it for today's episode. Thanks so much for listening to The Daily Signal's top news.
