I'm Samantha Sherris. I'm Virginia Allen. And this is the Daily Signal Top News for Tuesday, November 22nd.
Here are today's headlines.
Dr. Anthony Fauci's last White House briefing was earlier today as the NIAID director is set to retire next month.
Let's listen to some of Fauci's remarks via Greg Price.
So my message and my final message may be the final message I give you from this podium is that, please, for your own safe,
for that of your family, get your updated COVID-19 shot as soon as you're eligible to protect
yourself, your family, and your community. I urge you to visit vaccines.gov to find a location
where you can easily get an updated vaccine. And please do it as soon as possible.
Republicans have promised to investigate the origins of COVID-19 and hold Fauci accountable
in the new Congress. And he was asked about this during today's briefing about having to
potentially testify. Let's listen to Fauci's response via town hall. The answer is, if there are
oversight hearings, I absolutely will cooperate fully and testify before the Congress have asked.
You may not know, but I've testified before the Congress a few hundred times, okay,
over the last 40 years or so. So I have no trouble testifying. We can defend and explain
and stand by everything that we've said. So I have nothing time. The briefing also got
when the Daily Callers White House reporter Deanna Glebeauva tried to ask Fauci about the origins of COVID-19.
But White House press secretary Karin Jean-Pierre wouldn't allow the question, told her she was being disrespectful and that they had a process.
Stephen Nelson, a reporter for the New York Post, and Simon Adaba, a reporter for Today News Africa, took Glebo's side.
Let's listen via Caleb Hall.
She's not the valid question.
You should allow her to add some measure.
Yeah, Jeremy, it's Jeremy, it's
It is not your turn.
It is not your turn.
You can't understand people.
You can't make a press briefing.
You need to call from people across the room.
She has a valid question.
She's asked about the origin of COVID-19.
I hear the question.
And Dr. Fouch is the best person to answer.
I hear your question, but we're not doing this the way you want it.
This is a disrespectful.
It is.
I'm done.
Simon, I'm done.
I'm Simon.
I'm done with you right now.
Representative Kevin McCarthy visited the U.S.
Southern border today.
Just a week after he secured the party's nomination to be the next speaker of the House.
According to Fox News, Bill Malugian,
McCarthy decided to take the trip after Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Majorcas said last week that the border was secure.
Malugian also reported that McCarthy,
plans to hold congressional border hearings physically at the border to force Democrats to see
the crisis firsthand. McCarthy says he was shocked and outraged when he heard DHS's Mayoricus testify
under oath last week that the border is secure. Recent data from customs and border protection
shows there were more than 230,000 encounters at the southern border in October, which is a 1.3% increase
from the previous month.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell
may have defeated Florida Senator Rick Scott
in the November leadership elections,
but not before 10 Republicans
voted against the Kentucky Republican.
Now, some of those defectors
are preparing for retribution
for siding with Scott.
The Daily Signals,
Mary Margaret O'Lohan, reports.
While McConnell has said
he is not in any way offended
by having an opponent or having a few votes in opposition,
some Republicans believe
this is merely his public-facing posture. During last week's internal GOP meetings, lawmakers
discussed the likelihood that McConnell would retaliate against both Scott and those who supported him,
a person who was in the room, told the Daily Signal. Already, Scott and Senator Lindsay Graham of
South Carolina have endured the wrath of McConnell's former Chief of Staff.
Former Secretary of State and potential 2024 presidential candidate Mike Pompeo did not hold back when
speaking about the head of the teachers union, Randy Weingarten. During an interview with Semaphore,
Pompeo labeled Weingarten as the most dangerous person in the world and said that it's not a close call.
He also said, if you ask who's the most likely to take this republic down, it would be the
teachers' unions and the filth that they're teaching our kids and the fact that they don't know math
and reading or writing.
Weingarten responded on Twitter saying,
I know that Mike Pompeo is running for president.
And frankly, I don't know whether to characterize his characterization of me
in the Dave Weigel interview as ridiculous or dangerous.
And that'll do it for today's episode.
