I'm Jilline Richards. And I'm John Pop. And this is the Daily Signal Top News for Thursday,
September 22nd. Here are today's headlines. House Republicans released their commitment to
America policy agenda this Thursday. As my colleague Mary Margaret O'Lehann reports,
Republicans plan to fight for a strong economy, a safe nation, a future built on freedom,
and a government accountable to its people. Plan seeks to fight inflation and wasteful
government spending, which has raised the cost of living and of basic goods like groceries,
gas, and housing. Republicans also hope to produce more energy in the U.S., strengthen the supply
chain, and reduce dependence on China. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy lays out the rest
of the plan in a promotional video released Thursday. But Republicans have a plan for a new direction,
one that'll get our country back on track. It's called the commitment to America.
A plan for an economy that's strong, where you can feed your family and fill up your tank.
A nation that's safe where communities are protected by the police and criminals are prosecuted.
A future that's built on freedom, where your children come first and are taught to dream big.
And a government that's accountable where politicians don't get special treatment.
We simply cannot afford two more years of business as usual in Washington.
We need common sense change now.
House Republicans shared comments by House Minority Whip Steve Scalise.
Here he talks about one part of the plan to combat Democrats' open border policies.
A hundred thousand plus deaths of young people last year from fentanyl overdoses and other drugs that are coming across our border illegally.
None of this needed to happen.
And Republicans have tried over and over again to bring legislation to floor to secure our southern border.
and Democrats want nothing of it.
House Minority Whips, Steve Scalise, a Republican, has called on President Biden to denounce
political violence following the politically motivated murder of 18-year-old Kailor Ellingson this week.
Scalise, who was almost killed by a Bernie Sanders supporter in 2017, told Fox News,
I know firsthand the consequences that can result from violent political rhetoric,
and my prayers are with Kaler's family.
41-year-old Shannon Brandt allegedly drove his car over the victim, Kailer Ellington,
after what Brandt described as a political argument.
Court documents cited by Fox News state that Brandt admitted that he hit the pedestrian
and that the pedestrian was part of a Republican extremist group.
Scalese called the murder another outrageous and tragic example of leftist violence
in a tweet this Wednesday, adding that Biden and other Dem leaders should be condemning this
heinous act.
Former President Trump said presidents can declassify documents even by thinking about it.
in an interview with Fox News this Wednesday.
Fox News host, Sean Hannity, commented on the FBI's raid of Trump's home in Mar-a-Lago,
where they confiscated classified documents.
Hannity asked Trump whether there's a declassification process for documents.
Trump responded that there doesn't have to be a process as he understands it.
Here's the clip from Fox News.
There doesn't have to be a process, as I understand it.
You know, there's different people say different things.
but as I understand, there doesn't have to be.
If you're the President of the United States,
you can declassify just by saying it's declassified,
even by thinking about it,
because you're sending it to Maralaga
or to wherever you're sending it.
And there doesn't have to be a process.
There can be a process, but there doesn't have to be.
Scott Adams, author of the Dilbert comic strip,
announced his plan to start taking swings at ESG
that's environmental, social, and governmental policies
in his new comic series.
As Adams said in a YouTube video earlier this month, it should become known that Dilbert thinks
ESG is ridiculous, and then people who also think it's ridiculous will start retweeting it.
Shortly after this announcement, 77 newspapers pulled the Dilbert comic strip for its anti-ESG messaging.
In typical erronic fashion, Adams tweeted this Wednesday,
the timing of Dilbert getting canceled by 77 newspapers, one large chain, is probably a coincidence.
And that'll do it for today's episode.
