Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm Virginia Allen. I'm Smith O'Shares. And this is the Daily Suciddle Top News for Thursday, January 12th. Here are today's headlines. More classified documents have been found in President Joe Biden's possession from his time as vice president. Now, Attorney General Merritt Garland has appointed a special counsel to investigate Biden's possession of the documents. Garland has named Robert Hur as the special counsel. Her is a former U.S. Attorney for Maryland, appointed by President Donald Trump. Some of the classified documents are reported to pertain to Iran, Ukraine, and Britain. During a press conference earlier today, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was asked about the discovery of the classified documents in Biden's possession. Here's what McCarthy had to say via Fox News. I think Congress has to investigate this.
Starting point is 00:01:02 Here's an individual that's been in office for more than 40 years. Here's an individual that sat on 60 minutes that was so concerned about President Trump's documents locked in behind. and now we find it just as a vice president keeping it for years out in the open in different locations. Biden has told the press that he takes classified documents and classified material seriously. The president also says that he is cooperating fully and completely with the Justice Department's review of the documents. December marked a new first for the Biden administration. It was the first month since Biden took office that prices of goods fell. The Consumer Price Index is a key.
Starting point is 00:01:41 inflation measure and it decreased 0.1% in December. I spoke with E.J. Antony, a research fellow for regional economics in the Center for Data Analysis at the Heritage Foundation, he told me that the slight reduction in the overall prices for December was a welcomed relief for consumers in a year that saw the highest inflation in over 40 years. But he noted that prices for consumer goods remain extremely high. Eggs, for example, are up a hundred 189.9%. President Biden delivered marks following the release of the Consumer Price Index report. He said gas prices are down, which is saving Americans money. My administration took action to get oil onto the market and bring down prices.
Starting point is 00:02:28 Now gas is down more than $1.70 from its peak. That adds up to a family with a typical family with two vehicles to a savings of $180 a month, every single month that stays in their pockets. The price of gasoline is up 44.3% since Biden took office. We will leave a link in today's show notes highlighting my latest reporting on inflation numbers in America. With Republicans in majority of the House once again, pro-life bills are coming to the House floor for votes. Yesterday, the House voted and passed a resolution to condemn the attacks against pro-life centers. Only three Democrats voted to support the resolution, including representatives Vincente Gonzalez of Texas, Chrissy Hulahan of Pennsylvania, and Marie Glusencamp Perez of Washington.
Starting point is 00:03:20 Democrats who voted against the resolution said they would not back it because it failed to condemn attacks against pro-abortion groups. Catholic vote tracker reports that at least 78 pro-life groups and 108 churches have been attacked since the leak of the Dobbs opinion. last May. The House also voted yesterday to pass the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This bill would provide medical care to babies born alive after botched abortions. All but two Democrats voted against the Born Alive Survivor Protection Act. Texas Democrat Representative Henry Quayar voted with Republicans and Representative Vincenta Gonzalez, also a Texas Democrat, voted present. While both bills passed in the House, are expected to fail in the Democrat-controlled Senate.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Facebook has admitted that it suppressed content on the COVID-19 vaccine, content that was often true. The suppression of the content was confirmed in emails between Facebook and officials at the Biden White House. Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey is the one who obtained the emails through a court case. The case alleges that some of President Joe Biden's top officials colluded with big tech social media companies to violate Americans' right to free speech under the First Amendment. In March of 2021, a Facebook employee wrote to the Biden White House's Andrew Slavitt, who was then a senior advisor on Biden's COVID-19 response team and Rob Flaherty, the White House Director of Digital Strategy. Facebook writes in the email, you also asked us about our levers for reducing
Starting point is 00:05:00 virality of vaccine hesitancy content. As you know, in addition to removing vaccine misinformation, we have been focused on reducing the virality of content discouraging vaccines that does not contain actionable information. This is often true content, which we allow at the post level because it is important for people to be able to discuss both their personal experiences and concerns about the vaccine. But it can be framed as sensation, alarmist, or shocking. The email continues, We'll remove these groups, pages, and accounts when they are disproportionately promoting the sensation. The anonymous Facebook staffer added, more on this front as we proceed to implement. More emails of this nature were sent between Facebook and the White House in April and May of
Starting point is 00:05:48 2021. Our colleague Tyler O'Neill corresponded with the Missouri Attorney General over email, and the AG said that the case is really about the Biden administration's blatant disregard for the First Amendment and its collusion with big tech social media companies to suppress speech it disagrees with. Check out today's show notes to read O'Neill's article on the censorship. Nebraska Senator Ben Sasse has resigned from Congress and taken a position as president of the University of Florida. Nebraska Governor Jim Pillon announced earlier today that former Nebraska Governor Pete Ricketts will take Sass's seat in the Senate. Pillan said Ricketts was chosen for the Senate seat after 100 plus people applied for the position.
Starting point is 00:06:33 As a Republican, replacing a Republican, Ricketts will not choose. change the party makeup of the Senate. Ricketts will serve in the Senate for the next two years until Nebraska holds a special election in 2024. And that'll do it for today's episode.
