I'm Samantha Rank. And I'm Virginia Allen. This is the Daily Signal Top News for Tuesday, September 6th.
Here are today's headlines. A federal judge has allowed for a special master to review the seized documents taking from former President Donald Trump's Mar-Lago home, the Associated Press reported.
USA Today reported that a special master is a third-party individual who is frequently but not always an attorney and appointed by a court to oversee aspects of a case.
AP reported that Judge Aline Cannon from the Southern District of Florida also temporarily halted the Justice Department's use of the records for investigative purposes and that the special master appointment was being seen as a legal victory for the former president.
Cannon said the court hereby authorizes the appointment of a special master to review the seized property for personal items and documents and potentially privileged material subject to claims of attorney-client and or,
or executive privilege, according to Fox News.
The announcement comes more than a month after the August 8th raid of the former president's home.
U.S. Congressman Ronnie Jackson tweeted about the news saying the DOJ failed in stopping an independent special master
from reviewing the documents from a legal raid on President Trump's home.
Why was the DOJ trying so hard to stop this?
Are they trying to hide something?
The DOJ is out of control.
We deserve transparency right now.
The United Kingdom has a new prime minister.
Liz Truss replaced Boris Johnson as prime minister today,
making her the third female to hold the position following Theresa May and Margaret Thatcher.
Johnson resigned from the position in July after roughly three years in office.
During her victory speech on Monday, Trust said she will tackle Britain's energy crisis
in addition to cutting taxes and growing the economy, according to CNN.
Here is a snippet of her victory speech per the Telegraph.
Friends and colleagues, thank you for putting your faith in me to lead our great Conservative Party,
the greatest political party on earth.
I know that our beliefs resonate with the British people, our beliefs in freedom, in the ability to control your own life,
in low taxes, in personal responsibility.
And I know that's why people voted for us
in such numbers in 2019.
And as your party leader,
I intend to deliver what we promised
those voters right across our great country.
On Tuesday, the new Prime Minister tweeted,
as your Prime Minister,
I am confident that together we can ride out the storm,
storm, rebuild our economy, and become the modern, brilliant Britain that I know we can be.
I will take action every day to make that happen.
Fox News's Peter Ducey confronted White House press secretary Karina Jean-Pierre over her past
tweets alleging the 2016 election was stolen during today's White House press briefing.
Let's take a listen to a brief part of that exchange per the daily caller.
A follow-up about the MAGA Republican attention.
So if we're all in agreement that it is incorrect to say the 2020 election was stolen,
what about the 2016 election?
Look, I'm not going to go back to where we were or what happened in 2016.
We're going to focus on the here and now.
We're going to focus on what's happening today, this inflection point that the president pointed out very clearly, very decisively,
in a few speeches about what the country needs to do at this time,
to bring the country together.
And he believes that's where majority of Americans are
when it comes to protecting our democracy,
when it comes to protecting our rights,
and when it comes to protecting our freedoms.
That's what we're going to talk about.
That's what we're going to focus on where we are at today.
But just in trying to understand the new attention on the MAG of Republicans,
you tweeted in 2016, Trump stole an election.
I was waiting, Peter.
when you were going to ask me that question.
Well, great. Here we go.
You tweeted Trump stole an election.
You tweeted Brian Kemp stole an election.
If denying election results is extreme now.
Yeah.
So let's be really clear that that comparison that you made is just ridiculous.
I have been, I have been, well, you're asking me, you're asking me a question.
Let me answer it.
And you said it was ridiculous.
I was talking specifically at that time of what was happening with voting rights and what was in danger of voting rights.
That's what I was speaking to at the time.
Later on, Jean-Pierre also contested that she claimed the 2016 gubernatorial Georgia election was stolen.
Here's the thing. I have said, Governor Camp won the election in Georgia. I've been clear about that.
I have said President Trump won the election of 2016, and I've been clear about that.
What we are talking about right now is let's not forget what happened on January 6, 2021.
President Biden said in a speech last week in Philadelphia that MAG up forces are determined to take this country backwards, backwards to an America where there is no right to choose, no right to privacy, no right to contraception, no right to marry who you love, per Fox News.
It's a sad day for any New York City kid who loves snow days. New York City public school students will no longer have snow days.
That's according to an announcement made by the city's Department of Education on Tuesday.
The announcement said, on snow days or days when school buildings are closed due to an emergency,
all students and families should plan on participating in remote learning.
Fox 5 reported that New York State law requires students to attend class for 180 days out of the calendar year.
The city's Department of Education said the pandemic has also created the ability to switch
seamlessly to remote learning. And DOE Central and schools have distributed hundreds of thousands of
devices to ensure that learning can continue remotely during school closures. And that'll do it for
