Starting point is 00:00:00 I'm Virginia Allen. I'm Samantha Sherris. And this is the Daily Signal Top News for Monday, April 24th. Here are today's headlines. Primetime Fox News host Tucker Carlson is leaving Fox. Fox News issued a statement this morning thanking Carlson for his contribution and announcing that the two are parting ways. Tucker's sudden split from Fox has a lot of people speculating and asking why. Carlson's show was the high.
Starting point is 00:00:41 highest rated show on Fox News. Right now, we don't have any definitive answers as to why the network appears to have dropped Carlson. Of course, the news does come days after Fox settled a major lawsuit with Dominion voting system, but the timing may be entirely accidental. But where will Carlson go next? Tucker Carlson's first job was right here at the Heritage Foundation decades ago. and Heritage Foundation President Dr. Kevin Roberts responded to the news on Twitter this afternoon, telling Carlson, Heritage will always be a home for you. Right now, any guess as to where a Carlson may be headed is again pure speculation. But a common theory is that he will remain independent from any major news network. Carlson's final show on Fox News aired Friday night, and his last public speech as a Fox News employee was also Friday night.
Starting point is 00:01:37 at the Heritage Foundation's 50th anniversary gala. Tucker took to the stage of a packed room at a large convention center just outside Washington, D.C. Friday evening. He spoke honestly about his faith, the need to pray for America, and his concern over the direction the country appears to be headed. Carlson even said that the landscape of how political debates take place has shifted almost entirely in recent years,
Starting point is 00:02:05 and logic has been abandoned. especially when it comes to issues such as the transgender debate. I'm just saying this is an observer of what's going on. There is no way to assess, say, the transgenderist movement with that mindset. Policy papers don't account for it at all. If you have people who are saying, I have an idea, let's castrate the next generation. Let's sexually mutilate children. I'm sorry, that's not a political debate.
Starting point is 00:02:31 What? There's nothing to do with politics. What's the outcome we're desiring here? androgynous population? Is that really what we are we arguing for that? I don't think anyone could defend that as a positive outcome. Fox News tonight will air at 8 p.m. temporarily in place of Tucker Carlson's show until the network will determine who will fill the primetime spot. But speaking of big news personalities splitting with major networks, CNN's Don Lemon also announced today that he is no longer a CNN employee. Here's what Lemon wrote on Twitter today. I was informed
Starting point is 00:03:10 this morning by my agent that I have been terminated by CNN. I am stunned. After 17 years at CNN, I would have thought someone in management would have had the decency to tell me directly. Lemon added that at no time was I ever given any indication that I would not be able to continue to do the work I have loved at the network. It is clear. that there are some larger issues at play. CNN acknowledged the split with a tweet this afternoon, thanking Lemon for his work. But CNN also issued a statement in response to Lemon's comments on Twitter,
Starting point is 00:03:46 saying Don Lemon's statement about this morning's events is inaccurate. According to CNN, Lemon was offered an opportunity to meet with management, but instead released statement on Twitter. And now for a little bit of international news today, Sudan is an epicenter. of violence right now. Two rival armies are engaged in intense fighting over the country. More than 400 people have lost their lives in the conflict that only began on April 15th. Over the weekend, America made the decision to evacuate the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum. U.S. military, including Navy Steel Team 6, entered Sudan Saturday evening and evacuated the American Embassy. Lieutenant General
Starting point is 00:04:29 Douglas A. Sims, Director of Operations for the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said the withdrawal was smooth and under 100 people were evacuated, including all U.S. Marines who were guarding the embassy. Heritage Foundation Forum Policy expert Jim Carafano was critical of the Biden administration's handling of the situation in Sudan, telling the daily signal, since Biden became president, we have evacuated three U.S. embassies. That's unprecedented in modern times. Carapano says it is inexcusable that America was unprepared and caught off guard by the conflict. The Biden administration withdrew troops from Afghanistan in August of 2021 after a 20-year U.S. occupation, leaving the Taliban to take over. President Joe Biden suspended embassy operations in Ukraine when Russia
Starting point is 00:05:19 invaded last February, though the embassy reopened last May. While the U.S. embassy has been evacuated in Sudan. There are as many as 16,000 Americans still in the country. Biden says there's ongoing work to assist Americans in Sudan. President Biden says his domestic policy advisor is stepping down. Susan Rice has served as Biden's domestic policy advisor since the beginning of his administration. Biden praised Rice's work in a statement saying, what sets her apart as a leader and colleague is the seriousness with which she takes her role and the urgency and tenacity she brings. Her bias towards action and results and the integrity, humility, and humor with which she does this work. While Biden did not say when her last day would be, NBC has reported Rice will
Starting point is 00:06:13 depart on May 26th. Journalists are expecting another big announcement from the White House later this week, multiple sources report that Biden has plans to announce his re-election campaign sometime this week, maybe as soon as Tuesday. Stay tuned. Anheuser-Busch has put two of its top executives on leave. You all will remember that Anheuser Bush came under intense criticism after the beer company's Bud Light brand launched an ad campaign with transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney. Mulvaney is a man who claims to be a woman. He posts a few. He posts a photos and a video with cans of Bud Light during a March Madness ad campaign on his Instagram. The result was disastrous for the brand.
Starting point is 00:07:00 Country singer Travis Tritt announced he would no longer ask for Anheuser-Busch products on his hospitality cart when he performs. And videos of people taking their shotguns to cans of Bud Light went viral. Now Bud Light's vice president of marketing, Alyssa Heinerside, and her boss is, Daniel Blake are on leave. The Wall Street Journal reports that an Anheuser-Bush spokeswoman said an email that Alyssa has decided to take a leave of absence, which we support, adding that Daniel has also decided to take a leave of absence. Heinershide had previously defended her marketing choices on the Make Yourself at Home podcast in March. She talked about being tasked to reinvent the brand and appeal to new audiences. Here's what she had to say. So I had the
Starting point is 00:07:50 super clear man. It's like we need to evolve and elevate this incredibly iconic brand. And my, what I brought to that was a belief in, okay, what does what does evolve and elevate mean? It means inclusivity. It means shifting the tone. It means having a campaign that's truly inclusive and feels lighter and brighter and different and appeals to women and to men. Heinershide has been heading marketing for Bud Light since last June, but the company says Todd Allen will now take on that role. Allen most recently served as the Global Vice President for Budweiser. Anheuser-Buschalk appears to have largely recovered since its initial drop after the news of the transgender ad campaign went viral. And that's going to do it for today's episode.
