I'm Jillian Richards.
And I'm John Pop.
And this is the Daily Signal Top News for Tuesday, October 11th.
Here are today's headlines.
Former Hawaii representative Tulsi Gabbard announced today that she's leaving the Democratic Party.
Gabbard, who ran for president as a Democrat in 2020,
says she can no longer remain in a party that's under the control of war-mongering elites,
who are also stoking anti-white racism.
Check out her comments, which she shared in her first episode.
of her new YouTube channel, The Tulsi Gabbard Show.
I can no longer remain in today's Democratic Party.
It's now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of war mongers
driven by cowardly wokeness,
who divide us by racializing every issue
and stoking anti-white racism,
who actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms enshrined in our Constitution,
and who are hostile to people of faith and spirituality,
who demonize the police,
who protect criminals at the expense of law-abiding Americans,
who believe in open borders, who weaponize the national security state
to go after their political opponents,
and above all, are dragging us ever closer to nuclear war.
Heritage Foundation President Kevin Roberts reacted to Gabbard's announcement
in a tweet earlier today. Roberts writes,
foreign policy of, by, and for the elites,
in both of its forms, reckless neoconservative hyper and,
hyper-interventionism and soulless neoliberal globalism has failed. Welcome to the third way.
University of Florida students protested Senator Ben Sasse during a campus visit Monday. Sass a Republican
representing Nebraska is a candidate for president at the university after he announced plans to
retire from the Senate by the end of this year and pursue an academic career. According to the
university's newspaper, the Independent Florida Alligator, around 300 students protested at SAS's
event on campus. The newspaper reports that protesters interrupted one of SAS's scheduled forums
by shouting and banging on the doors of the ballroom where he was speaking. Protesters reportedly
flooded into the room after SAS left the forum early. CNN reports that a video obtained from
the school's newspaper features students calling SAS a homophobe and a racist and chanting, hey, hey,
Ho-ho, Ben Sasse has got to go.
A student named Jasmine Rivera told the university's newspaper that Sass doesn't represent who we are.
That's why I'm here to protest the ridiculousness of this candidate.
The University of Florida's presidential search committee unanimously voted in favor of selecting SASS as the sole finalist for university president.
The Associated Press reports that the Uvalde, Texas school district superintendent, Hal Herald,
announced his plan to resign from his post by the end of the school year.
Herald, as well as the Uvalde Police and other school officials,
have faced backlash following the shooting of 19 fourth graders
and two teachers at Rob Elementary School this May.
According to a Texas House report,
almost 400 law enforcement officials were at the scene,
yet officers let the shooter remain inside a classroom for more than 70 minutes.
The report called the response,
police and school police officials, a systemic failure, and the result of egregiously poor decision-making.
My heart was broken on May 24th, Harold wrote in a statement which his wife shared in a public
Facebook post yesterday. The post was no longer available a few hours after CNN first reported on it.
Harold wrote, these next steps for our future are being taken after much reflection and is
completely my choice. ABC News reports that one week prior to Harold's announcement,
Yuvalde School District officials suspended the entire school police force.
The car company, Nissan, sold all of its assets in Russia to the Russian government for a single
euro today. Roiders reports that the deal cost Nissan around $687 million, though the company
does not believe that this will affect its earnings for the fiscal year. According to Fox business,
Nissan cut business ties with Russia in March, where it had around 2,000 employees.
Nissan's president and CEOs said in a statement today,
on behalf of Nissan, I thank our Russian colleagues for their contribution to the business over many years.
While we cannot continue operating in the market, we have found the best possible solution to support our people.
Nissan reportedly can buy back the assets from Russia within six years.
Fox News reports that a string of other companies, including Marriott and McDonald's, have all
also withdrawn operations from Russia and have left assets to the Russian government.
