And this is the Daily Signal top news for Tuesday, September 13th.
Here are today's headlines.
U.S. inflation remains near record highs today at 8.3% in August, the Labor Department reported
today.
The inflation rate is down 0.2% from July, which was at 8.5%, compared to the 40-year high
of 9.1% in June, according to the Associated Press.
President Biden celebrated the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act during an event at the White House this afternoon.
Senator Ted Cruz tweeted about the inflation rate, saying, like clockwork, the Biden White House will try to spin their way out of another disastrous inflation report.
The sad reality is that Americans are struggling with 8.3% inflation, and President Biden is living in a delusional world.
A group of Republicans are speaking out about a Justice Department official.
comments labeling a prominent religious organization a so-called hate group.
Eric Bruskin is an assistant director in the DOJ's civil division.
He made the comment on LinkedIn.
He was responding to Jason Weida, who served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Massachusetts
and now is a Florida state health official, as the Daily Signal reported.
Weeda wrote on LinkedIn that he was speaking at an Alliance Defending Freedom Conference
about the work it's been doing in Florida to protect.
kids from experimental medical interventions and to defend parental rights. In response,
Bruskin wrote, Jason, this is a hate group. You're speaking at a conference for a hate group.
Are these the beliefs you hold? If so, then it's time we end our professional association.
In a statement to the Daily Signal, Texas Senator Ted Cruz says,
Attorney General Merrick Garland must ensure that the DOJ faithfully executes justice for all,
and he should investigate this incident.
Cruz added, it's appalling that the Department of Justice staffer would consider this mission hateful.
Florida Senator Mugger Rubio called the comments outrageous in a statement to the daily signal.
The DOJ didn't immediately respond to our request for comment on the GOP reaction.
Senator Lindsay Graham introduced a pro-life bill today that would ban abortion nationwide at 15 weeks,
the Hill reported earlier this afternoon.
The proposed legislation would include some exceptions for abortion, such as if a mother's life is at risk,
or in cases of rape or incest per the Hill.
Take a listen to Senator Graham's remarks from a press conference earlier today per his YouTube page.
I think we should have a law at the federal level that would say,
after 15 weeks, no abortion on demand, except in cases of rape, incest, to save the life of the mother,
and that should be where America's at. A Harvard Harris poll conducted at the end of June,
shortly after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, showed that more than 70% of Americans support
limiting abortion up until 15 weeks of pregnancy. The poll found that 10% of Americans support allowing
abortion until nine months of pregnancy. White House press secretary Corrine Jean-Pierre reacted to Senator
Graham's bill saying in a statement, this bill is widely out of step with what Americans believe.
The president and vice president are fighting for progress, while Republicans are fighting to take
us back, per the hill. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also weighed in on the discussion, tweeting
the nationwide abortion ban proposal put forth today is the latest, clear signal of extreme
MAGA Republicans' intent to criminalize women's health freedom in all 50 states and arrest doctors
for providing basic care. Missouri Senator Josh Hawley is sounding the alarm on credit card companies
and their treatment of gun purchases. The Missouri Senator sent a letter today to the CEOs of Visa
MasterCard and American Express. The Missouri Senator sent a letter today to the CEOs of Visa
MasterCard and American Express. In the letter, he said,
to express serious concern with your decision to separately categorize gun-related purchases
from other retail transactions made with your payment cards so that firearm purchases can be
more easily tracked. Holly added, this move has been described by multiple media outlets
as a major win for gun control advocates, and they're not wrong. He called for the immediate
end of the practice and stress that too often companies have abused their market power to target
the constitutional rights of conservatives and others with minority viewpoints. We reached out to American
Express, Visa and MasterCard for comment, but they did not immediately respond. Dr. Jill Biden doesn't
believe any books should be banned from libraries, the First Lady revealed in a sit-down interview with
NBC. Biden was asked about a balance regarding which books
should be banned in libraries.
Let's take a listen to her comments per NBC.
Is there a balance between, you know, this book should be in the library, this book is under review.
All books should be in the library.
All books.
This is America.
We don't ban books.
And that I'll do it for today's episode.
