Donald Trump has agreed to debate Kamala Harris three times. I'm Virginia Allen, and this is the Daily Signal Top News for Thursday, August 8th. Here are today's headlines.
Former President Donald Trump held a press conference at Mara Lago today. This was his first press conference in several months, and he took the opportunity to highlight Kamala Harris's running mate, Governor Tim Walz, as a far-left Democrat.
She picked a radical left man that is he's got things done that he's he has positions that are just not, it's not even possible to believe that they exist.
He's going for things that nobody's ever even heard of, heavy into the transgender world, heavy into lots of different worlds.
Trump went on to talk about the state of the U.S. and foreign policy. He claimed that the war in U.S.
Ukraine and the October 7th attack on Israel would not have happened if he were president.
And he also lamented the state of the U.S. economy.
October 7th would have never happened.
Russia would have never hit Ukraine had the election result been called differently.
It was a very bad call, but Russia would not have attacked Ukraine.
October 7th in Israel would have never happened.
You wouldn't have inflation.
A lot of great things would have happened.
But now you have millions and millions of dead people.
people and you have people dying financially because they can't buy bacon, they can't buy food,
they can't buy groceries, they can't do anything.
Trump also addressed Biden's decision to drop out of the presidential race.
The former president argued that Biden was pushed out of the race.
Take a listen.
I'm no Biden fan, but I'll tell you what, from a constitutional standpoint, from any standpoint
you look at, they took the presidency away.
And people were saying he lost after the debate.
He couldn't win.
Well, I don't know that that's true.
necessarily. But whether he could win or he couldn't win, when he had the right to run,
and they took it away, they said they're going to use the 25th Amendment, they're going to
hit you hard. Either we can do it the nice. I heard, I know exactly because I know a lot of people
on the other side, believe it or not. And they said, we'll do it the nice way,
but we'll do it the hard way. And he said, all right.
One of the biggest pieces of news to come out of Trump's press conference was that he has
agreed to debate Kamala Harris three times. The first debate is to be hosted by Fox News on September 4th,
the second by NBC on September 10th, and the third by ABC on September 25th. Now, Trump did say that
Kamala Harris's campaign has maybe not agreed to all of the terms of these debates yet,
so we will wait and find out and get that final confirmation on agreement from the Harris campaign.
But stay tuned.
It looks like we're headed for three presidential debates in the month of September.
Trump was not the only candidate making public appearances today.
Democratic candidate Kamala Harris delivered remarks at a campaign event in Detroit.
And yesterday, Harris held a rally in an airplane hanger, also in Detroit.
And during that rally, a group of pro-Palestine protesters interrupted the vice president, per sky news.
The protesters there are shouting Kamala.
Kamala, Kamala, you can't hide. We won't vote for genocide. After a moment, Harris shot back a response
from the stage, per the telegram. Portable Carrack. You know what? If you want Donald Trump to win,
then say that. Otherwise, I'm speaking. The crowd continued cheering for Harris for about 30 seconds.
Walls was also at that Detroit rally and said he was told that that crowd size was the largest
campaign rally that they've had.
With things heating up on the campaign trail,
Trump's running mate, Senator J.D. Vance,
is also front and center in the action
and taking jabs at Wals.
While on the campaign trail on Wednesday,
Vance attacked Wall's record on gun control
and his military service.
Walls previously made comments on gun control
saying, we can make sure that those weapons of war
that I carried in war is the only place
where those weapons are at. Vance accused Walls yesterday of lying in this statement, and Vance went on
to accuse walls of retiring from the military to avoid a deployment to Iraq, per Fox News.
Well, I wonder, Tim Walts, when were you ever in war? When was this, what was this weapon that
you carried into war, given that you abandoned your unit right before they went to Iraq, and he has
not spent a day in a combat zone? What bothers me about Tim Walts is the stolen valor garbage. Do not
pretend to be something that you're not. Wals spent more than two decades in the military. In 2005,
Walls retired from the military before his unit was deployed to Iraq. Retired Sergeant Major Joseph
Eustis served with Waltz, and he joined News Nation to respond to the claim that Wals retired
to avoid deployment. Take a listen. In May, when he decided to retire, we had no other than
rumors. There was no NOS, which is the notice of deployment, which that didn't come until July of
that year. And then there's a, and I don't remember the name of the third thing. That came in
August that told us where we were going. After Walls did leave the military he ran for Congress
and began his political career. Taylor Swift was scheduled to hold three concerts in Vienna
beginning tonight, but all three concerts have been canceled. The cancellation,
followed the arrest of two young people who were allegedly planning a terrorist attack at one of those concerts.
The New York Times reports that the Australian authorities did not publicly identify either of the people arrested,
but they did describe the main suspect as a 19-year-old man who was radicalized online and swore an oath of allegiance to the Islamic State.
The two arrested reportedly had plans to use explosives and other weapons to kill as many people as possible at the
concerts. The 19-year-old has confessed his intentions to law enforcement. He was born in Austria,
but his roots are in Macedonia. Authorities search the man's residence, which is about 40 miles
south of Vienna, and they found matches, knives, explosives, timers, and chemicals to make
explosives, as well as steroids, Islamic State propaganda, and 21,000 euros in counterfeit bills. That's
according to the times. U.S. intelligence ultimately provided law enforcement with the tip
that led to the suspected arrest of those lead suspects. As of the recording of this show,
Swift has yet to make a statement on the thwarted terrorist attack. With that, that's going to do it
for today's show. Thanks so much for joining us here on the Daily Signal's top news. If you haven't
