Trump accepted the Republican nomination last night.
I'm Elizabeth Mitchell, and this is the Daily Signal Top News for Friday, July 19th.
Donald Trump formally accepted the Republican presidential nomination for the third time on Thursday night.
Trump addressed his plan to end inflation, one of Biden's biggest weaknesses in his reelection bid.
Here's the former president.
Inflation has been a killer for our country.
No matter what you make it, it doesn't matter because inflation.
is eating you alive, people that were putting away money.
They were making great wages, the highest they've ever made,
but they were putting away a lot of money.
Now they are just being destroyed.
They're not putting away anything.
They're barely living.
They're going into savings accounts.
They're taking out their money to live because of inflation.
Inflation, remember, it's called a country buster.
Trump spent some time on his signature issue of preventing illegal immigration.
Trump said,
I will end the illegal immigration crisis.
by closing the border and finishing the wall, most of which I already built.
He also said,
The greatest invasion in history is taking place in our country.
It is an invasion indeed, and this administration is doing nothing to stop them.
Government bureaucrats are panicking over the prospect of former President Donald Trump
winning another term in office, E&E News reported.
If elected, Trump has pledged to implement reforms that would allow him to fire up to 50,000 civil
servants at will, with the former president singling out workers who are incompetent, unnecessary,
or undermine his democratic mandate.
According to Miles Taylor, who served as chief of staff in the Department of Homeland Security
from 2017 to 2019, many bureaucrats retired or changed jobs during Trump's first term, and
many others obstructed his agenda. Taylor admitted to such behavior.
Bureaucrats are worried that Trump may seek to appoint administrators to agree with his
agenda this time around. A park service employee said, he's going to get people in place that are more
intelligent and more loyal to him. Now I think he could do a lot of damage. A lawmaker at Wednesday's
FBI briefing to members of Congress told Fox News Digital that Congress was denied access to the
operations report that laid out the protection plan for the rally where former President Donald Trump
was shot. According to attorney and retired NYPD inspector Paul Morrow, the operation
report should detail who was supposed to cover the area of the roof that the shooter fired from.
The FBI had the plan as of last Thursday afternoon, according to Morrow. Morrow said, this was something
very, very badly planned. Just the idea that they had Trump in a car and couldn't get the car off
the grounds because it was locked is unbelievably irresponsible.
Five more House Democrats have called on President Joe Biden to withdraw from the 2024 presidential
election. Democratic representatives Jared Huffman of California, Mark Vizi of Texas,
Jesus Garcia of Illinois, and Mark Poken of Wisconsin issued a joint statement Friday morning.
They wrote that while they have great admiration for Biden, the public worries about his age and
fitness for office. They highlighted his disastrous debate performance on June 27th.
The congressman said, we believe the most responsible and patriotic thing you can do at this moment
is to step aside as our nominee, while continuing to lead our party from the White House.
His campaign manager ignored those calls, saying,
Absolutely the president's in this race.
Two other Democrats joined the call for Biden to withdraw.
Representative Greg Lansman of Ohio said Biden should step down so Democrats can nominate a new leader,
who can reliably and consistently make the case against Donald Trump
and make the case for the future of America.
Representative Zoe Lofgren of California wrote,
Biden a letter, attempting to convince him to allow another candidate to run.
Whistleblowers from the Department of Homeland Security told Republican Senator Josh
Holly that the majority of members of the security detail for former President Donald Trump
at the rally where he was shot were not even Secret Service.
Holly wrote this in a letter to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkis on Friday,
saying,
Whistleblowers who have direct knowledge of the event have approached my office.
According to the allegations, the July 13th rally was considered to be a loose security event.
For example, detection canines were not used to monitor entry and detect threats in the usual manner.
Individuals without proper designations were able to gain access to backstage areas.
The Missouri Republican wrote that the majority of DHS officials were not Secret Service agents,
but rather employees of the department's Homeland Security Investigations.
Holly said, this is especially concerning given that Homeland Security Investigations agents
were unfamiliar with standard protocols typically used at these types of events.
