I'm Virginia Allen, and this is the Daily Signal Top News for Thursday, March 14th.
Here are today's headlines.
There's big news out of Europe today regarding puberty blockers.
England's National Health Service has declared that there's not enough evidence of safety and clinical effectiveness for children and young people to be given puberty blockers to treat gender dysphoria.
That's according to recent reporting from the Daily Signal's own Mary Margaret O'Lahan.
The National Health Service notes on its website,
Puberty blockers are not available to children and young people
for gender incongruence or gender dysphoria
because there is not enough evidence of safety and clinical effectiveness.
The site also says from the age of 16 teenagers
who've been on hormone blockers for at least 12 months
may be given cross-sex hormones, also known as gender-affirming hormones.
The National Health Service Explore.
explicitly states, these hormones cause irreversible changes, including maturing girls' development of breasts,
the breaking or deepening of a person's voice, and temporary or even permanent infertility.
The news broke on Tuesday, which was D-Trans Awareness Day, a day that is dedicated to detransitioners
sharing their stories of transition regret and warning others to avoid falling into the medical
and therapeutic manipulations that they experienced.
D-transitioners are those individuals
who sought to transition to another gender,
but ultimately realized that that was not possible.
D-transitioner, Abel Garcia,
told the Daily Signal on Wednesday,
I am in full support of what the United Kingdom is doing now.
I agree that we need to keep children safe,
and I'm glad to hear that children in the United Kingdom
are able to live healthy lives
at least through the stages of human puberty, which is a human right.
D-transitioner Prisha Mosley similarly praised the news,
saying it's an incredible step in the right direction.
It shows that politicians have finally been listening to what experts and detransitioners
have been saying for years.
Jay Richards is the director of the DeVos Center for Life, Religion, and Family at the Heritage Foundation,
and he celebrated the news with emphasizing,
that gender-affirming interventions are often sex-erasing.

Former President Donald Trump was in court once again today, this time in Florida.
The hearing concerned his case revolving around his allegedly holding on to classified documents after leaving office.
The former president's team were trying to persuade Judge Aline Cannon, who was appointed by Trump to drop Special Counsel Jack Smith's case.
CBS reports that Cannon heard arguments on two motions filed by the former president, one that says Trump is shielded from prosecution by a federal recordkeeping law, and another that claims one of the charges presents numerous open legal questions.
CBS also reported that prosecutor Jay Bratt argued that the Presidential Records Act reinforced that the former president's actions had been illegal.
Rat referred to Trump's recorded conversations with a staffer, during which he admitted that as president, I could have declassified it, implying that he knew that because he was no longer president, he was no longer able to do so, according to CBS.
Axios reports that the former president faces 40 counts in the federal case.
Some of the charges include willful retention of national defense information and making false
statements and representations, according to Axios.
Trump has denied any wrongdoing and has pled not guilty to the charges, so stay tuned for
updates.
On Wednesday, the Republican National Committee sued Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson.
The lawsuit claims that Michigan has failed to live up to the National Voter Registration Act requirements,
which says that states maintain clear and accurate voter registration records.
The suit also alleges that at least 53 Michigan counties have more active registered voters
than they have adult citizens who are over the age of 18.
That number of voters is impossibly high.
The suit further alleges that an additional 23,
counties have active voter registration rates that exceed 90% of adult citizens over the age of 18.
That figure far elipses the national and statewide voter registration rate in recent elections.
According to the lawsuit, this is not the first time Michigan has failed to abide by the National
Voter Registration Act requirements. In 2020, Michigan election officials were sued in this court
for violating the act. At the time, the lawsuit,
says Michigan had one county with registration rates in excess of 100% of the voting age population
and 15 counties with rates above 90%. The state defendants moved to dismiss the case,
but this court denied the motion. Stay tuned. Also on Wednesday, the Biden administration renewed
a sanction waiver that greenlights over 10 billion in frozen funds,
for the Iranian government.
That's according to the Washington Free Beacon,
who said the outlet reviewed a copy of the notice
submitted to Congress last night.
The Washington Free Beacon reported that the sanction waiver
allows Iraq to transfer electronically payments to Iran
via third-party countries.
Oklahoma Republican Representative Kevin Hearn criticized the Biden administration's move.
He wrote on X, the outrageous decision
to renew their Iran-sanction waiver is just another attempt to appease our adversary and allow the largest state sponsor of terrorism access to billions in funds.
Our troops and our allies overseas will bear the brunt of this reckless action, according to her.
Tennessee Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn also commented on X, saying the Biden administration has renewed a sanctions waiver that unlocks 10 billion for the Iranian regime.
After all Iran has done to fund Hamas terrorist attacks on Israel, we should not be giving them one more cent, shame on Biden.
Our colleague Tyler O'Neill reported back in November that Iran has received over 71 billion more under the current administration than it would have under Trump.
Tyler's full analysis is available in today's show notes.
In related news, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer called for a regime change in Israel during a speech on the Senate.
Senate floor. Let's take a listen to his comments via the Associated Press's X-page.
Prime Minister Netanyahu has lost his way by allowing his political survival to take the
precedence over the best interests of Israel. Nobody expects Prime Minister Netanyahu to do the things
that must be done to break the cycle of violence, to preserve Israel's credibility on the world's
stage, and to work towards a two-state solution. At this critical,
juncture. I believe a new election is the only way to allow for a healthy and open decision-making
process about the future of Israel. Hamas and the Palestinians who support and tolerate their
evil ways, radical right-wing Israelis in government and society, President Abbas,
Prime Minister Netanyahu. These are the four obstacles to be.
peace. House Majority Leader Steve Scalise slammed Schumer's comments, saying in a post on X Thursday,
outrageous for Chuck Schumer to attack the democratically elected leadership of a close ally from the
Senate floor. Dems have harser treatment for Israel than for Iran and Hamas. Let that sink in. We must
stand with Israel as they defend themselves against these terrorists. Republican Majority Whip Tom Emmer of
Minnesota also weighed in on Schumer's remarks.
Here's what he had to say via the House Republicans' ex-page.
Chuck Schumer calling for the U.S. to meddle in Israel's elections is unprecedented and very dangerous.
If he wanted to focus on elections overseas, maybe he should have called for an election in Gaza instead.
I'll remind you that there hasn't been an election in Gaza since Hamas took over in 2006.
Israel is our strongest ally and the only freestanding democracy in the Middle East.
We should do everything we can to support them, not undermine them, as they fight for their very existence against barbaric terrorists.
Schumer called Netanyahu a, quote, obstacle to peace.
I think Israelis would agree that Hamas is the obstacle to peace.
Democrats, our Democrats, Chuck Schumer at all, the White House, they have a problem.
But it's not with Netanyahu.
It is with the anti-Israel members of their own party that have taken over the woke left.
While they choose Hamas, House Republicans will continue to stand with Israel.
And finally today, a big question.
Are Republicans backing off their effort to impeach President Joe Biden?
Our colleague Fred Lucas reports that the future of the impeachment inquiry into the president
ultimately may be no more than a fact-finding investigation
because some House Republicans don't anticipate charges to result from the probe of Biden family influence peddling.
The GOP's thin house majority and the timing of a presidential election year when voters can decide
whether Biden remains in the White House could also be key factors.
Still, most House Republicans say the impeachment inquiry should continue amid smoke over the president's entanglements with his family's shell companies,
raking in about 30 million from foreign individuals and entities.
Wisconsin Republican Representative Glenn Groffman told the Daily Signal,
I don't think the majority is there.
Groffman said of House Speaker Mike Johnson,
I think a political decision will be made that the American public collectively, not individually,
but collectively doesn't want an impeachment,
and therefore our speaker will not bring it to the floor.
It's almost a matter of math,
according to Georgia Republican Representative Austin Scott.
Remember that House Republican Representative Ken Buck of Colorado
has just announced his resignation.
Scott told the Daily Signal,
we've got a two-seat margin in the House of Representatives
from the standpoint of getting something on the floor
of the House of Representative.
I think it's very unlikely.
Some House Republicans during a media event last week said formal articles of impeachment
charging Biden are unlikely, but others said it could require a smoking gun or enough evidence
to make a Democrat-controlled Senate at least take such articles seriously.
To read more about a potential Biden impeachment, you can check out Fred Lucas's story in today's
show notes.
