Matt Gates has withdrawn his name from being Trump's nominee for Attorney General.
I'm Virginia Allen and this is the Daily Signal's Top News in 10 for Thursday, November 21st.
Matt Gates has withdrawn his name as President-elect Donald Trump's nominee for Attorney General.
Earlier this afternoon, Gates made the announcement on X.
Only yesterday, Gates seemed to be full steam ahead, telling reporters that he looked forward to his confirmation hearing.
Senator's been giving me a lot of good advice. I'm looking forward to a hearing.
Folks have been very supportive. They've been saying we're going to get a fair process.
So it's a great day of momentum for the Trump vance administration.
So what changed? Well, Gates did meet with senators yesterday. And in his announcement, he indicated that they may have persuaded him to reconsider his nomination.
He wrote on X that he appreciated their thoughtful feedback and the incredible support.
of so many. But Gates added that while a momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was
unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump-vance transition. There is no time
to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle. Thus, I'll be withdrawing my name from
consideration to serve as Attorney General. Gates said that he is still fully committed to see
President Donald J. Trump is the most successful president in history. Gates' nominate.
was indeed controversial from the start with a number of Republicans refusing to say if they would
support him as Trump's Attorney General. The controversy of the pick intensified over a House
ethics investigation into Gates. Trump wrote on true social shortly after Gates made his announcement.
The president said that he greatly appreciated the recent efforts of Gates in seeking approval to
be Attorney General. He was doing very well, but at the same time did not want to be a distraction
for the administration, for which he has much respect.
So now the question is, who will be nominated to serve as Trump's Attorney General?
That remains to be seen, but it is worth noting that last week Trump nominated one of his
attorneys, Todd Blanche, to serve as deputy attorney general.
President Joe Biden quietly awarded the former CEO of Planned Parenthood with the nation's
highest civilian award.
That's according to reporting from Life News.
Biden gave former Planned Parenthood CEO Cecil Richards the Medal of Freedom.
But the ceremony was not listed on Biden's public schedule and press were not invited to the ceremony and it was also not streamed live.
Planned Parenthood does over 330,000 abortions on an annual basis.
That's according to life news.
In a statement about the former Planned Parenthood CEO, Biden said Richards fearlessly leads us forward to be the America we say we are, a nation of freedom,
carrying her parents' torch for justice, she's led some of our nation's most important civil rights
causes to lift up the dignity of workers, defend and advance women's reproductive rights,
and equality and mobilize Americans to exercise their power to vote.
Pro-life activist and head of live action, Lila Rose, reacted to the news on X, writing
Cecil Richards presided over the abortion of 3.9 million babies as president of Planned Parenthood.
She belongs in jail, not in the White House receiving the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Now let's turn to news beyond our borders.
The International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant for the Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu.
They also issued an arrest warrant for the former Israeli defense minister, Joav Galant.
The ICC issued the arrest warrant for crimes against humanity and war crimes committed between the 8th of October, 2023, and the 20th of
of May 24. The Prime Minister's office called the warrant anti-Semitic and called the court's
charges false. The ICC also issued an arrest warrant for Hamas leader Mohamed Diyab Ibram al-Masiri,
who Israel says that they killed in an airstrike. The issuing of the arrest warrants comes as
peace talks between Hamas and Israel remain on rocky ground. At the UN yesterday, the U.S.
vetoed a resolution that demanded an immediate ceasefire in the war between,
Israel and Hamas. The resolution did not require an immediate release of hostages, and the U.S.
said that it could not back any resolution without a full demand for the release of hostages.
Now, moving north to Russia and Ukraine. Today, Ukrainian officials say that Russia launched
an intercontinental ballistic missile towards southern Ukraine. That's according to reporting from
ABC News. Video shared on X by the informant account captured the moment the missile struck.
The use of the weapon comes just days after Biden gave Ukraine permission to use U.S. long-range missiles against Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said today that Russia has the right to use such weapons to defend itself.
Now let's hit our news flashes of the day. First up, today, the Illinois Supreme Court overturned the conviction of Jesse Smollett.
You may remember that back in 2019, Smollett claimed to be the victim of a racist and racist,
homophobic attack on the streets of Chicago. The claims turned out to be false and Smollett was
ultimately convicted on five felony counts, including filing a false police report. He was later
sentenced to 150 days in county jail, but today that ruling was overturned. Fox News broke the
news this morning that the Heritage Foundation and Heritage Action for America are launching a one
million dollar public education campaign to advocate for the prompt confirmation of President-elect
Donald Trump's cabinet nominees. The one-million dollar campaign will target the home states of key
senators who could make or break the confirmation process, according to Fox News Digital.
Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy are heading up the Department of Government Efficiency or Doge in the
Trump administration. The House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer reportedly plans to establish a
subcommittee to work with Doge. Georgia Republican representative Marjorie Taylor Green is expected
to head that subcommittee. And Fox News reports to the subcommittee is expected to investigate
wasteful spending, examine ways to reorganize federal agencies to improve efficiency and identify
solutions to eliminate bureaucratic red tape. An illegal alien allegedly robbed one of Manhattan
District Attorney Alvin Bragg's prosecutors in New York City, early South.
Sunday morning. The illegal alien has suspected ties to the Venezueling gang, Trenda Aragua.
The suspect is said to have robbed the unnamed 38-year-old woman in her apartment building.
That's according to the New York Post that first broke the news on the story. He took her phone,
bank cards, and performed a lewd act before fleeing the building. Police tracked the phone that he
stole and found and arrested the suspect on Tuesday night. The incident is leading to increase criticism
of DA Bragg for his soft-on-crime policies.
Your government is out of control.
It's doing things it has no business doing.
It spends way too much money.
It gets involved in way too many wars.
It not only tells you what you can and can't say,
it actively censors you.
And the things your government should do,
it can't, or worse, won't do it all.
It can't keep your streets clean of crime and filth.
It can't keep your neighborhoods safe enough for kids to play outside.
It can't even prevent your country
from being invaded by millions of illegal areas.
immigrants. Why is that? Because your leaders no longer represent you. They represent themselves
and their friends. In my new show, The Signal Sitdown, we'll expose how the sausage really gets
made in Washington, D.C., with guests who have experience on the inside. Fingers will be pointed,
names will be named. You ready?
