President Trump announces the possible federalization of Washington, D.C.
Drama from the derelict Texas House Democrats fleeing the state continues,
and J.P. Morgan and Bank of America reportedly debanked President Trump after prompting from the Biden administration.
I'm Tony Kinnett, host of the Daily Signals Tony Kinnett cast, syndicated nationally at 7 p.m. Eastern.
It is Wednesday, August 6, 2025. This is the Daily Signals, top news in 10.
After Edward Corristine, the Doge official who has colloquially gone by the name Big Balls,
was assaulted after attempting to help a woman who was being beaten by seven or eight youths in Washington, D.C.,
and getting rather beaten up himself, President Trump spoke yesterday evening about the rampant D.C. crime rate and suggested that he might be doing something about it.
By the way, I have to say that somebody from Doge was very badly hurt last night.
that a young man who was beat up by a bunch of thugs in D.C.
And either they're going to straighten their act out in terms of government
and in terms of protection, and we're going to have to federalize
and run it the way it's supposed to be run.
On Truth Social, the president posted,
crime in Washington, D.C. is totally out of control.
Local youths and gang members, some only 14, 15, and 16 years old,
are randomly attacking, mugging, maiming, and shooting innocent citizens.
At the same time, knowing that they will,
almost immediately be released. They are not afraid of law enforcement because they know nothing
ever happens to them, but it's going to happen now. The law in D.C. must be changed to prosecute
these minors as adults and lock them up for a long time, starting at age 14. The most recent victim
was beaten mercilessly by local thugs. Washington, D.C. must be safe, clean, and beautiful for all
Americans, and importantly, for the world to see. If D.C. doesn't get its act together and quickly,
we will have no choice but to take federal control of the city
and run this city how it should be run
and put criminals on notice that they are not going to get away with it anymore.
Perhaps it should have been done a long time ago.
Then this incredible young man and so many others
would not have had to go through the horrors of violent crime.
If this continues, I am going to exert my powers
and federalize this city, make America great again.
Washington, D.C. was originally set up
not to be a local polity in and of itself,
but a district under the control of primarily the House of Representatives,
but realistically, the entire United States Congress as a whole.
Senator Mike Lee reaffirmed this saying,
we need to pass the Bowser Act, revoke D.C. Home Rule,
and we govern Washington through Congress as the Constitution originally provided.
Our nation's capital deserves to be a shining example to the world, not a national embarrassment.
And drama from the Texas House Democrats running away from the state.
Texas and fleeing to places like the state of Illinois, Democrat California and New York in order
to avoid voting for a Texas redistricting measure, instead choosing to violate the law and break
quorum without being dismissed while the Texas House was in session. Therefore, Governor Greg
Abbott did a couple of things yesterday. First of all, he did good on his promise to issue arrest
warrants for the 57 House Democrats, and then at the beckoning of the Speaker of the House in
Texas, sent out the Texas Rangers and other members of Texas Public Safety to keep an eye
out for these Democrats in case they're roving about Texas because they took an oath that
they have now broken. They're supposed to be in session when they are called to by the Speaker
of the House. Additionally, Governor Abbott has begun the process of seeking from the Texas
Supreme Court the authority to begin removing and
replacing these members of the House so that individuals in the various House districts of Texas
can be receiving adequate support from the members of the legislature that they elected.
CBS sat down with a group of very concerned and not at all,
politically theatrical members of the Texas House of Democrat delegation,
and talked about how this is incredibly unprecedented and not normal.
Check it out.
Governor, the Attorney General say they may seek your arrest.
You willing to go to jail over this?
We knew there were going to be consequences.
And I think all of us know that this is bigger than us as individuals.
It's bigger than the jobs we have.
We are fighting for the American experiment.
We are fighting for representative democracy and whether or not that will continue.
And so we're willing to face whatever consequences may come our way.
But also want to make sure people recognize this threat of arrest, this is not normal.
Do not think that we can turn into a nation where you arrest and jail your political opposition.
for not only rendering their voice for the people, but doing something that is protected by the Texas Constitution.
A quorum break is written into the Texas Constitution. It is a tool our founding fathers gave us.
The threat of arrest is something that should be a red alarm for a lot of folks.
Now, unfortunately, the interviewer from CBS failed to push back at all, as is expected of typical normal journalists.
Because the particular statements made about this not being a normal process to issue arrest warrants for
derelict members of state legislatures. That's just not true. This is a very
precedented normal thing in American society when this kind of event takes place. In Oregon in
2019, Oregon state Democrats issued arrest warrants for Oregon Republicans who fled into
Idaho to avoid cutting carbon emissions until 2050. We saw this in the Wisconsin State House,
where Wisconsin Democrats had issued a series of arrest warrants for Wisconsin state Republicans
who had fled the state in a particularly embarrassing moment,
and I mean embarrassing for history and posterity's sake here,
Texas State Representative and Democrat Jolanda Jones
compared the redistricting efforts of the Texas House to the Holocaust.
Check it out.
And then integration happened and everybody thought they accept us.
They don't accept us.
They are showing us who they are.
We should believe them.
And we better have the courage to stand up.
Otherwise, we will fall for anything.
and in this country we will be defeated, deported.
I mean, we will lose all of our rights.
And if you think it can't happen, it can.
And I will liken this to the Holocaust.
People are like, well, how did the Holocaust happen?
How was somebody in a position to kill all of them people?
Well, good people remain silent.
Or good people didn't realize that what happens to them can very soon happen to me or somebody I love.
And so even if you made it, man, you have an obligation to help people who can't.
because God forbid they end up targeting you and your family.

Now, as these redistricting efforts were prompted in part by Trump's Department of Justice
suggesting that some of the previous electoral maps may not be up to civil rights standards,
President Trump was asked yesterday evening, I believe the audio is of Peter Ducey of Fox News,
asking him whether or not going through this entire redistricting process was worth it,
whether it was worth the effort and some of the backlash on the legacy media side,
of things. Here was President Trump's responses to these questions.
Illinois and Maryland are all going to redraw their maps to add safety.
Well, they'll do it anyway. Is it worth it?
Yeah, they'll do it anyway. Why, if we stop over there, they would have done it anyway.
Look, a lot of these states, you know, I watched this morning as Democrats are complaining,
and they're complaining from states where they've done it, like in Illinois, like in Massachusetts.
I watch this.
Now, Texas law enforcement is fully aware that it doesn't have the authority to go outside of
Texas state lines in order to bring these Texas House Democrats home.
Of course, this is a lesson that we all understand, remembering the great Bert Reynolds movie,
Smokey and the Bandit, in which Sheriff Bufordee Justice was outside of his jurisdiction
after chasing the bandit outside of Texarkana into Arkansas and through the rest of the
South.
This is Sheriff Guepadette Justice of Texas.
Texas?
You know, of course, that you're out of your jurisdiction.
I suggest that you let my doctor.
Department handle the situation.
That's very comforting, but I'm in a high-speed pursuit.
Don't you hear good?
I hear perfectly.
The fact that you are a sheriff is not germane to the situation.
The damn Germans got nothing to do with it.
What do you say?
Shut up.
Nevertheless, President Trump was asked yesterday evening whether or not he might allow the FBI
to assist Texas authorities and perhaps using federal law enforcement to bring these
Texas Democrats home.
Here was Trump's response.
asking for your help to force Democrats back to the state and hold them accountable. Do you want
the federal government and the FBI to help locate and arrest these Texas Democrats who have left
the state? Well, I think they've abandoned the state. Nobody's seen anything like it,
even though they've done it twice before. And in a certain way, it almost looks like they've
abandoned the state. It looks very bad. Yeah, go ahead, please.
Does the FBI get involved? Should the FBI get involved? Well, they may have to. They may have to.
No, I know they want them back. Not only the Attorney General, the governor, the government,
wants them back. If you look, I mean, the governor of Texas is demanding they come back. So
a lot of people have demanded they come back. You can't just sit it out. You have to go back.
You have to fight it out. That's what elections are all about.
I'm going to get a text as soon as my editor-in-chief hears this as to why I thought using an
example from Smokey and the Bandit was appropriate for the top news intent. And last but not
least, according to a new report from the New York Post, J.P. Morgan and the Bank of America
debanked President Trump under pressure from the Biden administration over January 6th.
According to New York Post writer Charles Gasparino,
the exact reason for President Trump and his tens of millions of dollars in holdings being kicked off,
the JP Morgan banking platform,
and then denied access to Bank of America's services, has yet to be reported.
Here's the problem, though.
Sources at the bank, number one and number two, largest in the U.S. in terms of assets,
did confirm that the cause stemmed from controversy surrounding Trump's actions on January 6th
and threats from Biden's bank regulators that banking the former president's money put them in danger
of falling afoul of rules that prohibit financial institutions from doing business with individuals
and companies that present a, quote, reputational risk, end quote.
Here's the spot that could lead to a particularly rough couple of moments for Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.
According to the New York Post, people at these banks told the New York Post that Biden's banking cops at the office of the comptroller of the currency, the FDIC, and the Federal Reserve often used the nebulous nature of the federal edict to go beyond debanking money launderers and drug kingpins.
They were pressured to include people who have heterodox political and business ties that often included conservatives and anyone who participated in the January 6th protests.
Now, yesterday, President Trump signed an executive order attempting to curb the practice of debanking altogether,
but it is rather interesting and should be something to look out for that Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell,
who was chairman at the time of this series of perhaps, according to the New York Post article,
debanking orders or promptings, went ahead with certain threats to J.P. Morgan and the Bank of America
to kick former President then Trump off of the platform
regarding the Biden administration's narrative
regarding January 6th.
Now, I'm sure we'll have quite a bit more to say
on these particular subject matters this evening.
