I'm Tony Kenned of the Daily Signals Tony Kennedcast, syndicated nationally at 7 p.m. Eastern.
It is Friday, May 2nd, 2025.
This is the Daily Signals top news in 10.
While inflation disappeared rapidly in March, the quarter one real gross domestic product fell at an annual rate of 0.3%.
A fall two quarters in a row is the classical definition for a recession.
Now, trade subtracted about 4.8 percentage points, so if you exclude trade, the economy didn't contract, which is a creative way to suggest that the numbers are perfectly fine.
Real Consumption added 1.2%. Fixed investment added 1.3%. An economic stagnation appears to be
the word of the day. This led to a couple of questions to President Trump and Vice President
Vance about the stock market, about the economy. Here's President Trump.
If I get the transition, sir, you frequently took credit for the stock market highs.
You said it was a reflection of how well you were doing in the polls. And then after you were elected, you said the stock.
market highs were a reflection of how well the transition is going and the American people's
confidence in your incoming administration. Now, stock market's not doing so well, and you're saying
that's the Biden's stock market, yet you are the president. Can you explain that?
I'm not taking credit or discredit for the stock market. I'm just saying that we inherited a mess,
both at the borders. You could look at every single one of the people here, and no matter who it is,
they're doing better and they are far superior to what took place for four years before us.
When you look at prisoners being allowed to come into our country at will, just at will,
people from mental institutions, gang members, drug dealers, when you look at that, what they've
done to our country, and also having to do with finance, look at what happened with inflation.
We had the worst inflation, probably in the history of our country.
They say 48 years, but I would say in the history of our country.
country and ate away at people. And even though you saw a stock market going up somewhat,
because in my case, I had the biggest stock market increased 88% in the last term, in my last
term. But I don't view the stock market as the end of it's an indicator. Vice President J.D. Vance
articulated a similar response. The president thinks that we have to make more of our own stuff.
The economy shrank, first time in three years. People are pointing to the tariff policy. There are people
looking at their 401ks that are worried.
What do you tell them?
Is this going to work?
So the first thing is, when you talk about the economy, this is Joe Biden's economy,
and we inherited $2 trillion of debt, the highest peacetime deficits in American history,
a $1.2 trillion trade deficit, which fundamentally means we're not making enough of our own stuff.
And the president came in and he said, this is not always going to be easy.
It would have been very easy for Donald Trump to do what administration
passed to done, which is borrow a lot of money and continue fueling the national debt.
He said, no, we need a reset. We need American workers to have better jobs. We need to protect the
jobs that they have right now. And we need to be more self-reliant as an economy, which by the way,
will drive down those skyrocketing levels of debt that we've seen. That is what he promised
he was going to do. And he came in and we've started that process now.
And National Security Advisor Mike Waltz is National Security Advisor No More. After a couple of
scandals regarding a potential leak in the Defense Department, Mike Walts has been removed from
the position. President Trump then returned to Truth Social four hours after the announcement that
Waltz would be stepping down from the National Security Advisor position, saying, quote,
I am pleased to announce that I will be nominating Mike Walts to be the next United States
ambassador to the United Nations. From his time in uniform on the battlefield in Congress and as my
National Security Advisor, Mike Walts has worked hard to put our nation's interests first.
I know he will do the same in his new role.
In the interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as the National Security Advisor
while continuing his strong leadership at the State Department.
Together, we will continue to fight tirelessly to make America and the world safe again.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Trump had originally nominated Representative Elise Stefonic of New York to the position,
but then she ended up rescinding that nomination after there was a
a question as to whether or not the House of Representatives could stand another special election
with the very slim majority Republicans are currently facing.
And last but certainly not least, House Democrats have taken advantage of the uncertainty
for certain aspects of the Trump economy by making several poor choices of their own.
Representative Jasmine Crockett of Dallas, whom former Vice President Kamala Harris,
named as one of the individuals in the party she's the most proud of.
including congressional leaders like Corey Booker, Chris Van Hollen, Chris Murphy, Jasmine Crockett, Maxwell Cross, AOC, and Bernie Sanders.
Made several incorrect statements about immigration and the government, as is her want to do.
Here's Representative Jasmine Crockett making the case that illegal immigration is not a crime.
It is not a criminal violation to enter the country illegally.
It's not a criminal. It's a crime. It's not a crime, which is why they're so frustrated because they really want our local law enforcement to go out and round up people when they could be looking out for the murderers and the sexual abusers as well as the robbers.
They want them to go and round people up on civil accusations.
Multiple U.S. codes cite entering the country and staying in the country illegally as well as evading federal agents in border patrol, customs, and
enforcement, as well as state department officials as, yes, a crime. She also made a curious case
about external immigration. As far as I'm concerned, you randomly kidnapping folk and you
throwing them out of the country against their civil rights, against their constitutional rights,
and frankly, how would they feel if some other country decided that they were going to just
start throwing people randomly in our country? Like, that is absolutely insane. So yes,
All I got to say is y'all need to get these fools out of here.
But I'm a but.
The Venezuelan administration, which released certain gang members from prisons and mental institutions
to come directly to the United States, were unavailable for comment.
Representative Hank Johnson of Georgia's fourth congressional also made a curious statement
comparing the removal of illegal immigrants in the United States to the Holocaust, citing the famous they came for this.
group and I did nothing poem, but making a rather racially stereotypically and offensive remark
in doing so.
You know, first, they came for the Latinos outside of the Home Depot's trying to get work
so that they could feed their families.
And I didn't say anything about it because I'm not a Latino at the Home Depot.
Given House Democrats focus on illegal immigration and individuals like Kilmar Abrago-Garcia,
whom new documents show is very likely on the record threatening to kill his wife,
not to mention fairly large-scale human trafficking.
All right.
Anything good?
You've got a bunch of people in here, don't you?
From Texas is good.
How many rolls have you got in here?
Four?
Where?
seats, four rolls of seats.
Yes, three seats.
Yeah, we, we hit.
Did y'all put an extra one in?
Huh?
Did y'all put another one in?
No.
You know what you got here, right?
Uh, he's, uh, he's hauling these people for money.
Miles Morel of the Daily Caller News Foundation approached Representative Ilhan Omar of Minnesota,
asking if she encouraged her colleagues to continue going down to El Salvador or focusing on
on Abrego Garcia.
Here's how that went.
Congresswoman Omar, I'm Miles Morel
with the Daily Call on News Foundation.
Do you think more of your Democratic colleagues
should be traveling to El Salvador
to advocate on behalf of Avrigo Garcia?
I think you should be up.
Yeah, that's what.
Congresswoman?
Who should?
You.
Why me?
I'm not thinking any questions right now,
but here you go.
Yeah, thanks.
Oh, brother.
