Starting point is 00:00:00 Donald Trump will be our 47th president. I'm Elizabeth Mitchell, and this is the Daily Signal's Top News in 10 for Wednesday, November 6th. Former President Donald Trump officially won the 2024 presidential election. Trump won every swing state that has been called thus far, Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin. He's projected to win the other two, Nevada and Arizona. Virginia Allen was at the Trump Watch Party in Palm Beach last night. What was the energy like? Hey, Elizabeth.
Starting point is 00:00:42 It was really interesting to see the shift in energy, right? Because most people, including myself, didn't think that the race was going to be called last night. So so many of Trump supporters were there at the convention center in West Palm Beach. And they showed up, I think, for a night of watching election results roll in and to have a drink or two and eat some good food and be with other folks that were. were backing the former president, but the atmosphere really shifted around 11-ish o'clock when they called North Carolina. And I think that's when people realized, oh, wait a second, they're already calling swing states. We might find out the winner tonight.
Starting point is 00:01:21 And then Georgia was called and the atmosphere in that energy rose and then Pennsylvania was called and the energy really became electric at that point. People realized, okay, we're going to find out in all likelihood tonight and former president Donald Trump will be the 47th president. Awesome. What did Trump say when he addressed supporters late last night, or you could say early this morning? It was. It was about 2.33 in the morning. He took the stage. The crowd went wild. They were cheering. Lots of mega hats in the room. And his message was really one of, this is a historic movement that we are all a part of. Let's go ahead and roll just a moment of what the president had to say. This was a movement like nobody's ever seen before. And frankly, this was, I believe, the greatest political movement of all time.
Starting point is 00:02:16 There's ever been anything like this in this country and maybe the only. So it was this message of you all are part of this movement. I'll be honest, Trump seemed pretty tired, which is to be to be understood. It's been a really long campaign season. And it was also the middle of the night. And he thanked a number of people. including his wife, his family members, those that have supported him all along the way, and some of his new greatest supports people like Elon Musk.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Awesome. What do you think brought Trump the win in the swing states? There are a number of big factors that you have to look at things like those endorsements from people like Elon Musk, Joe Rogan, RFK, I think those played a role, no doubt. At the end of the day, the center issue that drove this election was the economy because all Americans feel that, whether or not, you know, we know that border and immigration was a big issue. We know abortion remained a big issue. But even for voters that maybe didn't feel those issues, everyone was feeling the economy. And at the end of the day, I think that was the one issue that turned out voters. Excellent.
Starting point is 00:03:29 Well, thanks so much for joining us, Virginia. Thanks, Elizabeth. Kamala Harris gave her concession speech at her alma mater, Howard University at 4 p.m. today. The Daily Signals, Tyler O'Neill, joins us to discuss. The race was called for Trump last night, but why did it take Harris so long to address supporters? Yeah, that's an excellent question, Elizabeth. I'm wondering myself, it seems like the least that Kamala Harris could do would be to go out to all of her supporters who, you know, worked the ground for her, went knocking doors, made all these phone calls, did a lot of work on behalf of her campaign last night and say,
Starting point is 00:04:09 you know, look, maybe the results aren't looking the way we want them to look, but hang in there and thank you so much for your support. That's all she needed to say. She could have gone on stage for five minutes and then said, this thing isn't over, let's wait. Instead, she disappeared. And people were leaving her event in droves, and they were more depressed because she didn't come out and thank them. Here's a clip of one disheartened Harris supporter expressing how she feels on X. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:04:41 I think liberals are feeling right now. Yeah, I think liberals are feeling very dejected and very, you know, this is 2016 vibes, right? So what we're seeing, and actually it's a far bigger win for Donald Trump than 2016 was, especially in terms of what's looking like a popular vote in majority. So they're going to be struggling with this for a while. I expect we're going to see another wave of woke pushing back, a wave of resistance. I'm praying that we don't see violence on the streets, but I certainly wouldn't count it out. I'm hoping for the same thing. According to Stephen Chung, Trump campaign communications director, Harris did congratulate former President Trump. Here's the statement.
Starting point is 00:05:43 President Donald J. Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris spoke by phone earlier today, where she congratulated him on his historic victory. President Trump acknowledged Vice President Harris on her strength, professionalism, and tenacity throughout the campaign. And both leaders agreed on the importance of unifying the country. Thanks, Tyler. My pleasure. Republicans took control of the Senate last night. They are projected to take the House as well as results finished trickling in.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Here's Senator Ted Cruz talking about what Republicans will do with the Senate majority on Fox News. When that happens, here's what's going to happen. Number one, we will secure the border. We're going to cut taxes and extend the tax cuts. We're going to end the regulatory assault on small businesses and oil and gas. And we're going to end the wars abroad. Israel will defeat Hamas. To do that is going to take Republicans standing together being focused at the task on hand.
Starting point is 00:06:41 Tyler's here to discuss what are some notable Senate races that helped flip the Senate. Yeah, so I think you and I have been following the Ted Cruz, Colin Allred race, where that was a Republican hold. But we also saw Republican pickups, most notably in Ohio, West Virginia, and Montana. Right now, Republicans have 52 seats called to the Democrats 45 called, according to Decision Desk. There are three seats remaining, and right now the Republican is leading in Pennsylvania and Nevada, and Arizona seems likely because, well, that is the last holdout in the presidential calls. But it looks like we're going to get at least a 53-seat majority for Republicans, if not 54. Okay, and how about the House? Yeah, so the House, it's a little harder to say exactly how much.
Starting point is 00:07:37 The races that have been called so far, 210 for Republicans, 194 for Democrats. Republicans have picked up three seats. Most notably, I think it was a six-seat gain in Pennsylvania. So Trump's strong showing in Pennsylvania has really made an impact not just for his presidential race, which of course it was the Keystone State to deliver him the race, but also in the House as well. Right now, Republicans have a 92.4% chance of winning a majority in the House. House, according to Decision Desk. Of course, we have to say that every single result of this election is preliminary until the secretaries of state and the various states ratify, et cetera, et cetera. But what we're looking at is a Republican trifecta in January. What will this trifecta, if it does, in fact, happen, enable Republicans to accomplish? Yes, it's going to enable them to do a lot, but it's going to be difficult. There's not going to be a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate, which means that,
Starting point is 00:08:37 President Trump will be able to approve judicial nominees, most likely fairly easily. We might even be seeing a Supreme Court vacancy in the first few years of his term. But what he's going to be prioritizing, you know, it's very interesting. I think there's going to be a big, deep state push. I really hope that President Trump chooses somebody strong for OPM, the Office of Personnel Management, to bring the deep state to heal. and I think he might get some legislation on these important issues. He just might. Thank you, Tyler.
Starting point is 00:09:11 Thanks, Elizabeth. Now let's hit our news flashes of the day. Voters in Florida, South Dakota, and Nebraska rejected radical abortion amendments that would have enshrined abortion up to birth in their state constitutions. Colorado, Maryland, Montana, Nevada, New York, Arizona, and Missouri did pass similar pro-abortion amendments. Tropical storm Raphael, a rare November hurricane, is expected to make landfall in the southern U.S. this weekend. Rafael intensified into a Category 3 hurricane on Wednesday afternoon as it approached the Gulf of Mexico. Nine states voted Tuesday night to pass constitutional amendments, clarifying that only U.S. citizens can vote in elections.
Starting point is 00:10:00 Each measure was passed by 62 percent of the vote or more. Lastly, the Justice Department will wind. down its federal criminal prosecutions against Donald Trump. Former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr called prosecutors to, quote, unquote, do the right thing and drop the charges against Trump. That's all for this post-election day episode of Top News in 10.
