I'm Virginia Allen, and this is the Daily Signal Top News for Monday, March 25th.
Here are today's headlines.
Former President Donald Trump will not have to pay the full $465 million bond that he was originally going to be required to pay after a New York civil fraud ruling against him last month.
Instead, he now has to pay $175 million in the next 10 days.
That's thanks to a decision from.
from New York Court of Appeals on Monday.
The former president said in a true social post this morning,
we will abide by the decision of the appellate division
and post either a bond, equivalent securities, or cash.
Trump spoke in New York City this afternoon,
and let's take a listen to what he had to say via the Associated Press.
So a lot of things happened today.
This is all about election interference.
This is all Biden-run things,
meaning Biden and his thugs, because I don't know if he knows he's alive.
And it's a shame.
It's a shame what's happening to our country.
This is election interference.
They are doing things that have never been done in this country before.
We've never had anything like it, certainly not at this level,
but we've really had nothing like it that I've been able to find.
It does happen a lot in third world countries, banana republics.
In related Trump news, Judge Juan Merchant announced today
that the trial for the former president's hush money case will begin on April 15th.
Earlier today, the United Nations Security Council voted and adopted a resolution
demanding an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the immediate unconditional release of all hostages.
That's according to the United Nations.
14 countries voted in favor of this resolution and zero voted against it.
The United States abstained from the vote.
and the U.S. was the only country to do so.
In response to the U.S. actions,
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office
said that in light of the change in the American position,
Prime Minister Netanyahu decided that the delegation would not leave.
UN Secretary General Anthony Gutierrez said the Security Council
just approved a long-awaited resolution on Gaza
demanding an immediate ceasefire
and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages.
This resolution must be implemented.
Failure would be unforgivable.
Former Vice President Mike Pence weighed in on America's actions, writing on X.
This is a disgrace.
The UN Security Council passed a resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire that makes
no mention of Hamas or October 7th, and the Biden administration let it pass without a veto.
After the worst attack on the Jewish people since the Holocaust,
Israel must be allowed to wage war until Hamas is destroyed once and for all.
America stands with Israel, according to our former vice president.
On Friday, gunman opened fire at a concert hall in Moscow,
killing upwards of 130 people.
The Associated Press reports that the four suspects were identified in the Russian media as Tajik nationals.
At least two of the suspects admitted culpability, according to court officials.
But the individual's conditions did raise questions about whether their statements were coerced.
The four men were photographed in court and had clear signs of having been beaten.
ISISK did claim responsibility for the attack.
However, Russian president, Vladimir Putin, placed blame on Ukraine.
Putin, who did recently secure another six-year term as president,
delivered a speech on Saturday night.
And in that speech, he said all four perpetrators were found and detained
and went on to say that they tried to hide and move towards Ukraine,
where previously a window had been prepared for them to cross the border.
National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson denied Ukraine's involvement in the massacre,
saying ISIS bears sole responsibility for this attack.
There was no Ukrainian involvement whatsoever.
During an appearance on Fox News on Sunday, Arkansas Republican Senator Tom Cotton said,
I'm deeply worried that ISIS from Afghanistan will end up targeting Americans sooner rather than later.
Let's take a listen to his comments via the post-millennial's ex-page.
So U.S. intelligence had issued warnings publicly and privately about this group and a potential attack in Russia.
You sit on Senate intelligence.
How worried are you about an attack like that on our soil?
Well, I am very worried about it.
And again, you don't even have to sit on the Intelligence Committee and have classified intelligence.
You can just listen to what the commanding general of our force in the Middle East said,
that in as little as six months, you could have an attack like this.
And again, it turned out to be six days.
He said it might be a little bit longer to project that kind of attack against the American homeland
or the Western Hemisphere.
But again, we have millions of Americans who live or travel abroad throughout Europe and Asia,
embassies, businesses there.
So I'm deeply worried that ISIS from Afghanistan will end up targeting Americans.
sooner rather than later.
It's what's happened in Moscow, obviously, is very, very sad for the people there.
But we have a duty to protect the American people wherever they are here in America or around the world.
And right now, I worry that they're at grave risk.
For more on this attack and what it means for the American people, be sure to catch tomorrow morning's Daily Signal podcast interview edition.
I'm going to be sitting down with the Heritage Foundation's Robert Greenway to discuss not only why ISIS targeted Russia,
but how likely a similar attack is on the United States.
Again, that conversation is coming out Tuesday morning on the Daily Signal podcast.
Democratic New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is not happy with Democratic strategist James Carvel.
Why?
Because of comments that he made during an interview with the New York Times.
Carvel said,
A suspicion of mine is that there are too many preachy females.
Don't drink beer, don't watch football, don't eat hamburgers.
And this is not good for you.
The message is too feminine.
Everything you're doing is destroying the planet.
You've got to eat your peas.
Carville, who worked on former president Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign, went on to say,
if you listen to Democratic elites, NPR is my go-to place for that, he said.
The whole talk is about how women and women of color are going to decide this election.
I'm like, well, 48% of the people that vote are males.
do you mind if they have some consideration?
Well, in an ex post on Sunday, following those comments,
the New York Congresswoman responded to Carville's comments,
saying maybe he should start a podcast about it.
I hear men are really underrepresented in that space, according to AOC.
Former San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Bodine says that crime victims
don't have rights under the Constitution.
He made those comments during a conference,
at UC Berkeley Law School. Voters recalled Bodine in 2022 amid an escalation of crime.
The Daily Signals, Jert Stettman, has been covering this story, and according to Stepman,
Bodine's surprising comment came during a larger debate between the left and the right on criminal
justice issues during a March 8th gathering titled Justice Unveiled Debating Crime and Public Safety
Conference. Now, the Alstead San Francisco Prosecutor led a discussion with
California district attorneys that also included the Heritage Foundation's senior legal fellow
Colley Stimson. Stimson is a crime expert and a former prosecutor. Stimson pressed the district
attorney about the so-called progressive prosecutor movement. Stimson includes Bodeen in that
progressive prosecutor movement, and it's worth noting that Bodeen now serves as executive director
of the Criminal Law and Justice Center at Berkeley School of Law, and crime increased
dramatically during the progressive Democrats two years in office, and it continues to be a major
problem for those living in San Francisco. Stimson explained that protecting the vast majority
of residents of a community who don't commit crimes from those who do is a cornerstone of the
social contract. Stimson asked, how do you, in your role, as the district attorney uphold your end
of the social contract.
In his answer, Bodeen said that putting more people in prison, of course, reduces the number
of crimes.
Putting everyone in prison would end crime, he added.
Well, the former San Francisco district attorney then said that those people who have spent
the most time in prison are the least likely to recidivate and that we keep convicted
criminals locked up for far too long in America.
Bodine said that's a decision we made that separates us from every other civilized country in the world.
It's a policy choice, and it really doesn't have to do with safety so much as a desire for vengeance and retribution with the history of racism in this country.
He said the progressive prosecutor movement isn't about putting defenders over victims.
The Constitution created rights for criminal defendants, Bodine said, but it does not create.
create rights for victims of crimes.
You can check out Jarrett's full reporting on this event in today's show notes.
And you can also pick up a copy of Culley Stimson's book, Rogue Prosecutors,
