With just one week until Election Day, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris are making their closing arguments to the American people.
I'm Rob Bluey, and this is the Daily Signal top news for Tuesday, October 29th.
Former President Donald Trump held a press conference at Mar-a-Lago today, where he offered a pre-buttal to Vice President Kamala Harris's plan speech in Washington, D.C. tonight.
With polls showing the 2024 presidential election too close to call, both candidates are now in their final sprint to Election Day.
his press conference in Florida, Trump focused on the issue of illegal immigration and the border crisis under the Biden-Harris administration. He played an emotional video featuring the mother of Jocelyn Nungary, a 12-year-old Texas girl who was raped and murdered by two illegal aliens in June.
Amala Harris was in charge of immigration in our borders. If we had better border policies and not open borders and not these catch and release policies, I
truly believe this all could have been prevented.
Under her being vice president of this country,
my daughter's life was ripped away from her.
She had her entire life.
I've had her.
Happy birthday, dear, just leave.
My daughter is six feet in the ground based off of policies
that she allowed to keep.
Kamala Harris did have one job.
and she not only failed, not me, she failed my daughter, she failed Jocelyn.
You're like getting in my mouth.
She was only 12th.
Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris is preparing for a speech in Washington, D.C.,
at the same site where Trump famously spoke on January 6th, 2021.
A massive fence surrounds the ellipse at the White House, where Harris will make another attempt
to refocus the campaign on Trump and why she believes he is a threat to democracy.
Will it work? Well, we'll find out soon enough. Make sure you continue to follow the Daily Signal for the latest election coverage, including Harris's speech tonight. Our team is also reporting from the critical swing states of Michigan, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania this week.
As we told you yesterday, the Washington Post is receiving backlash for its decision not to endorse any candidate for president this cycle.
NPR reports that around 200,000 subscribers have canceled their Washington Post subscriptions,
since the decision. However, Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos, the billionaire behind Amazon,
has spoken out about why he didn't want the Post to endorse this cycle. Bezos wrote for the
Washington Post that, quote, in the annual public surveys about trust and reputation,
journalists and the media have regularly fallen near the very bottom, often just above Congress.
But in this year's Gallup poll, we have managed to fall below Congress. Our profession
is now the least trusted of all.
Something we are doing is clearly not working.
According to that Gallup poll cited by Bezos,
more than two-thirds of Americans
have no or little trust and confidence in the media.
Speaking on ABC's The View today,
Whoopi Goldberg blasted Bezos for his decision.
Now, when he took over the paper,
the slogan was, is democracy,
no, is democracy dies in darkness.
Yeah.
Well, Jeff, you just turned the light off again.
That's why people are mad because, you know, it's not like you just made this decision, you know,
Willie Nill.
This paper has been doing this for.
Well, they took down years.
Yeah.
And now they're giving Trump a pass in away.
The Los Angeles Times and USA Today will also not be making any endorsements in this presidential cycle.
Both had endorsed Biden in 2020.
Now, those of us at The Daily Signal saw this media crisis coming long before many of these
establishment news organizations, and if you're not already a subscriber to the Daily Signal,

Steve Bannon walked out of federal prison in Danbury, Connecticut today. The former Trump
advisor served a four-month sentence for defying a subpoena in the congressional investigation into
the January 6th protest at the U.S. Capitol. I'm not broken, I'm empowered, Bannon told the New York
Times. Bannon went on to host his podcast War Room today. He spoke about Trump's appeal to blackmail
voters in his opening monologue. I can tell you in coming from and being a political prisoner
in a federal prison that the young men in this country that are African American and Hispanic
detest, detest Kamala Harris. They detest her. We're going to go into details today and at the
press conference of why that's up. But we have a chance.
to move past race on November 5th.
The Federal Bureau of Prisons held Bannon longer than necessary,
according to reporting from the Tennessee Star.
Under the First Step Act of 2018, which Trump signed into law,
Bannon accrued 10 days of good time credit that could be applied to an early release.
Quote, to date, Mr. Bannon has earned 10 First Step Act time credits,
the Bureau of Prisons wrote in a letter to Bannon's attorneys.
these credits typically would be applied toward early transfer to supervision. However, Mr. Bannon does not have a term of supervision following his imprisonment.
Thus, his 10 First Step Back Time credits can only be applied toward pre-release custody placement in a residential re-entry center or on home confinement, the Bureau noted.
Now, according to Bannon's attorney, R. Trent McHotter, the credits mean the Bureau of Prisons could have released Bannon to home confinement on October 19th.
10 days before the end of his sentence.
The Bureau declined to release Bannon early, however, citing its view that there is insufficient
time on Bannon's remaining sentence to process the referral to home confinement.
Now for today's quick gets, where we share a brief rundown of other top news stories of the day.
Even though we are still one week away from Election Day, more than 46 million voters have
already cast their ballots, according to Fox News.
Recent polling suggests a razor-thin margin between Donald Trump and Kamala,
Harris. States have long allowed some Americans to vote early, but the practice expanded during the
COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, 60% of Democrats reported voting by mail compared to 32% of Republicans.
This year, more Republicans are voting early. Democrats are experiencing anxiety about
Vice President Harris's closing campaign message. Harris has focused on condemning what she
calls Trump's fascist tendencies, a negative message that many Democrats fear may not resonate with
voters, Politico reports. We can't keep campaigning on modes of fear, a former state representative,
told Politico. And finally, the highest court in the swing state of Nevada upheld a controversial
election practice Monday. The state Supreme Court ruled that the law does not prevent counting
mail-in ballots without a postmark, even if they were received as late as four days after the election.
The Republican National Committee sued to block election officials from counting mail-in ballots
that arrive after the election without a postmark.
The Heritage Foundation's election integrity scorecard
ranks Nevada 50th in the nation for election integrity.
It receives poor marks for failing to ensure all voters present valid identification,
poor management of absentee ballots, and failing to block ballot harvesting.
And that'll do it for today's episode.

election day. Make sure you subscribe to the Daily Signal wherever you get your podcasts and
