The Trump administration sets a blistering 104% tariff on Chinese imports as the trade war between the two nations escalates.
The Supreme Court delivers a third major ruling in favor of the Trump administration.
And Congressional Democrats hold a shadow hearing to air grievances.
I'm Tony Kennett from the Daily Signals Tony Kenned cast, syndicated nationally at 7 p.m.
Eastern. It is Wednesday, April 9th, 2025. This is the Daily Signals, top news in 10.
States and the communist regime of China are escalating as a 104% tariff from the United States
on all Chinese imports went into effect at midnight. Here's press secretary Carolyn Levitt yesterday.
You mentioned the 70 countries or so. I'm curious, though, under what conditions at this point
would President Trump talk to President Xi about tariffs? Look, I just spoke to the president about this,
and he believes that China wants to make a deal with the United States. He believes China has to make a
deal with the United States. It was a mistake for China to retaliate. The president, when
when America is punched, he punches back harder. That's why there will be 104% tariffs going
into effect on China tonight at midnight. But the president believes that she and China want to make a
deal. They just don't know how to get that started. And the president also wanted me to tell all
of you that if China reaches out to make a deal, he'll be incredibly gracious, but he's going to do
what's best for the American people. These tariffs were in response to a Chinese retaliatory
tariff of 34% on April 4th, which were a response to Trump's reciprocal tariff of 34% on April 2nd.
Victor Gao, a Chinese professor in Beijing and a member of the Chinese Communist Party,
boasted about China's ability to outlast the United States.
Chinese government will definitely retaliate again.
If the United States imposes additional 50% tariff against Chinese export, China will announce
immediately 50% retireatory tariff against.
against the US export to China.
Now, the second point, which is equally,
if not even more important,
is that in this round of trade war initiated by the United States,
not only against China,
but against so many countries in the world,
China will not blink first.
China will not be the first country to blink vis-a-vis the United States.
Believe it or not, that's not the only rough spot
with China making headlines.
After Beijing intervened to stop the sale
of major ports along the Panama Canal,
from the Hong Kong firm, C.K. Hutchinson to an American firm,
the Secretary of Defense Pete Hegset, traveled down to Panama to make this statement yesterday.
I want to be very clear. China did not build this canal.
China does not operate this canal.
And China will not weaponize this canal.
Together with Panama in the lead, we will keep the canal secure and available for all nations.
through the deterrent power of the strongest, most effective, and most lethal fighting force in the world.
We will do this in partnership with Panama.
Together we will take back the Panama Canal from China's influence.
And we will do this along with other capable, like-minded allies and partners.
This is what peace through strength looks like.
Over in the Russo-Ukraine war theater, Ukrainian President Zelensky has released footage
of what he claims to be captured Chinese nationals fighting on behalf of Russia in Ukraine.
Go to the place.
Woo.
Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom.
And then my commander.
Boom.
Then, then,
Wow.
Back on the U.S. side of things, the President of the United States spoke in front of
group of coal miners signing an executive order to boost coal production in the United States.
He also took a moment to talk a little bit about what he believed to be the successes of his
tariff policy, mainly income to the United States, as well as other world leaders coming to
the White House or to reach out to the president's office and request some kind of a deal
or negotiation to lower the tariffs. Check it out. And for those of you that want to know the tariffs
You've been hearing about tariffs.
We've taken in almost $2 billion a day in tariffs.
Two billion a day.
And we're doing very well.
We have a lot of countries coming in.
They want to make deals.
If I told them about making those deals two years ago,
or three years ago, or five years ago,
they'd be laughing at us now.
They're all signing up, Mike, you know that.
So it's going to be a great thing.
But we're taking, think of that, $2 billion a day.
That's a lot of money.
That's a lot of money, even in the coal business, isn't it?
It's a lot of money.
And America's going to be very rich again very soon.
You're going to see that happening.
You see it all along.
And it's so that whole situation that, you know,
it was somewhat explosive.
But if we didn't do that, we wouldn't be talking the way
we're talking right now.
It's been amazing what's happened.
Sometimes you have to mix it up a little bit.
But we've had great consideration.
had talks with many, many countries, over 70.
They all want to come in.
Our problem is can't see that many that fast.
But we don't have to because, as you know, the tariffs.

United States described the actions of former President Joe Biden, former Vice President Kamala Harris,
and former Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, actions regarding the southern
border as treason. Our opponents are not afraid that our America first policies will fail. They're terrified
that our strategy will succeed and we're going to get bigger and stronger and better as a party.
And that's what's happening. And that is what's happening. It's going to be something.
And I'm actually looking forward to the midterms. I really are. We're going to prove that
all of their treasonous years of betrayal will not be forgotten because it's treason. What they did is
treason. When they allowed millions of people to pour in through open borders from all over the world
they came, to me that's treason. What they've done to our country is unthinkable. The money we have to
spend to take people out. And then we have judges that say, no, let trend of Iraqwa come back
into our country. They want them to come back in. The Supreme Court has delivered its third
decision in favor of the Trump administration in the last couple of days.
blocking a Clinton-appointed U.S. Judge William Alsup's ruling, which required the Trump administration to rehire 16,000 federal workers fired across multiple agencies.
Many of these individuals were considered probationary, and several of those individuals had been following around U.S. senators around the U.S. Capitol Building trying to seek comet.
this one individual who tried to corner Senator Jim Banks of Indiana claimed to have been illegally fired.
Hi, I was a worker at HHS. I was fired illegally on February 14th.
It turns out according to this Supreme Court ruling, no.
And in a festivist miracle yesterday, the Democrats in both the House and the Senate convened a shadow hearing.
A shadow hearing is when a group of individuals in the House and the Senate convene a media,
outside of the rules and the bounds of Congress because they don't have any authority to
convene hearings that are exclusionary of particular members of Congress based on party.
They don't have the leadership positions in order to convene special hearings.
Those are granted by the voter in elections.
But in this case, Senator Adams Schiff went on a long diatribe against the Trump administration,
claiming that this shadow hearing was necessary,
just like a Jewish journal during the rise of the Nazis in the 30s.
Extraordinary step of convening this unprecedented hearing.
We brought together both chambers of Congress, the Senate, and the House
to conduct real oversight and to serve as a check and balance,
to hold those who misuse power to account and to carry out our constitutional duty.
Convening this hearing was not our first choice.
we have tried to get our Republican colleagues to hold hearings, to do meaningful oversight,
to assert Congress's authority as an independent branch of government.
But to our great disappointment, our Republican colleagues have abdicated that important responsibility.
They have stood by as the President has run roughshod over the legislative branch
and turn Congress into a little more than a rubber stamp.
So today we'll hold the first of what we hope will be more bicameral oversight hearings.
We will do the investigative work,
that our colleagues across the aisle refuse to do.
We will expose the illegality, abuse, and corruption of this administration and within the
Department of Justice.
We will have brave witnesses speak to what's actually happening behind closed doors, how
the Trump administration continues to try to intimidate them from speaking out, and why it
matters to Americans across the country.
The Trump administration is following a well-worn playbook.
History serves as a guide and as a warning.
In the 1930s, a Jewish lawyer in Berlin tracked in meticulous detail how Germany gradually became what he called a dual state.
First, to keep the country running, the ordinary legal system remained in place for most people.
And yet, step by step, a parallel system of governance and law emerged, what one scholar called a lawless zone.
For more riveting coverage on these shadow hearings, I recommend your tuning to C-SPAN 3.
You didn't know that C-SPAN had a third channel.
Neither did I.
