Yeah, I loved that show, man. I think first season of the Basketball Jones was the last time the Sacramento Kings made the playoffs.

Wow. 0-5, 0-6 season. It's been a long time that we've been doing it. And maybe it's been the curse of the Kings, you know? You got to do a reunion episode. Exactly. We got to go toramento and they make it back this year yeah baby the beam edition 100 so look i know you obviously from watching you on no dunks

and uh etc here you you're a big bulls fan but where are you from where'd you grow up how'd you end up with the bulls what's going on there i grew up in a tiny town called plano illinois probably 45 minutes southwest of Chicago. We're most famous as the world's biggest producer of plastic fishing tackle boxes. Oh, yeah. I love your work. Great for staying organized.

Maybe you like to keep track of tiny little beads, some strings. Get you a caboodle. They make those too. My daily supplement and pill intake is all i have to keep it uh you know organized in a in a giant tackle box oh because i'm 80 years old we might as well just go hit plain old molding company on 451 east south street you know that's the spot that's the spot go to the factory store you can get a tackle box or a caboodle one is

rounder that's the only difference right and like with more like 90s colors because i remember the caboodle was basically like a toolbox but like what if we did a colorway with turquoise and purple exactly make it hornets colors and everybody will buy it for their six-year-old daughter no doubt they were in my household because that's when i grew up i was seven when the Bulls won their first championship in 1991. If you're seven years old with Michael Jordan, 45 minutes away, you're going to end up a Bulls fan for life. It was awesome up until I was 14.

It's been a battle ever since then, it feels like. You got a Wizards jersey or not? I did go to one MJ Wizards game in Indiana. I think it was Wizards Pacers his first year back. But these days, I like to just imagine that that era never really happened. You know, this is all doctored footage. Nobody can really prove MJ was a wizard. Right, right.

This is the Sinbad movie where he's a genie. That's right. They're like, yeah, go ahead. Yeah, go look for that. Yeah, Sinbad was a genie and Michael Jordan was a wizard. Get out of here. Yeah, right. Come on.

And how are you feeling about the team right now? Better than a month ago. Yeah. You know, it's been a weird couple of seasons for the bulls last year. They got off to an incredible start on top of the league for the first couple of months of the season. You know,

the bulls were back. They were an exciting team to watch. And Lonzo ball gets hurt. Zach Levine picks up a little injury. More and more guys started missing time. By the end of last season, I'd flown home for the first Bulls playoff game in five years, and it ended up being a 30-point blowout. Not great. And that was kind of the vibes going into the season this year.

Bulls came out. Didn't look great to start the season. Gave up 150 points to the Timberwolves about a month ago. Apparently they had a team meeting at halftime, gave up 71 in the first half, had a team meeting, came back out, gave up 79. But after that, after that, they came out and gave up 14. And that's where it started.

They had a chat at halftime. It didn't go wrong the second half. They're like, we got to really try that stuff yeah talking about i love a team meeting where it really turns the tides and it's just like we gotta let them stop making baskets yeah exactly oh for real okay that sounds very passive coach yeah we got i just like they do like all right that's it team meeting half time what the heck was that yeah uh but yeah zach levine i mean he seems like he's uh just flipped the switch or something it was basically in line with when the timberwolves game happened you could even go back

a little earlier i think since december 1st he's basically been back to the zach levine of the past couple of seasons he had uh the arthroscopic knee surgery in the summer so when he came back to the Zach Levine of the past couple of seasons, he had the arthroscopic knee surgery in the summer. So when he came back to the bulls, you know, it wasn't picking up right where he left off. But now for the past month, basically he's been a 50% shooter from the field and right near 50% from three point land as well.

And that's huge for the bulls. They're not a team that makes a ton of threes. So it's gotta be Levine that actually knocks them down. Yeah. Is there like a born on date that they have with surgeries i feel like there are certain surgeries whereas like three weeks later though that's when all of a sudden he's like shooting 50 from from three and like kicking i remember that a lot with wade where you could just like feel the future based on like how his knee was feeling at any

given time and it would fluctuate so wildly like from game to game. If he got scraped out or not, that was a problem. I remember one thing that's always messed timelines up for me with regards to knee injuries was a metal world piece, like hurt his meniscus. It seemed like he was going to be out for the playoffs and he came back in two weeks, looked like the exact same player. Yeah. Anytime somebody hurt their knee, I'm like, well, it could be a metal world piece, you know, right back right away. It doesn't usually go that way on the complete other end of the spectrum.

You got why Leonard he's played through half this season. He's like, this is going to take me two years to get back. Right. I'll pump the brakes a little bit here. I guess it's different for everybody, but I'm happy to see Levine looking more athletic. Like he always has.

Now. I love a player who doesn't like necessarily show up on the stat sheet or the everyday basketball fan doesn't pay a ton of attention to them, but then they're just there and they gel everything together. With Lonzo, as a fan who watches a lot more of these games than I do, he was somebody who I really believed in coming into the league. And then he hasn't set the world on fire. Right.

But a lot of people who watch a lot of his games are like, he really contributes to wins. Do you think that him being out and him coming back in the not too distant future is, is going to be a big swing for the bulls? Lonzo is kind of the Draymond of the bulls. And the fact that he just does whatever they need to do and all of the things that are his strengths

are the rest of the team's weaknesses. So I really do hope he comes back soon. The reporting on his injury has not been Metta World Peace encouraging. I heard he was jumping on his jump shots now, which is an improvement, but the guy had surgery about a year ago. So you would think he'd be back already.

Nonetheless, when he went out, he gave the Bulls a little bit of size on the perimeter, some defense, some deflections. He pushes the pace, obviously. And then he really chucks threes. Like, that's a crazy thing about Lonzo. He came in. The shot was certainly a question mark. He learned how to shoot in New Orleans, and then he was just letting it fly

in the first half of the season for the Bulls last year. They don't get a ton of three-point shots up. They don't have a lot of high-percentage guys. He would certainly help, not to mention on the defensive end, where him and Caruso, they look like a menace out there together for the first half of the season last year. They need his transition

offense. They need his threes. They need his defense. There's a reason Lonzo was a priority for the Bulls going into last season. It's a bummer to me as a Sixers fan that we might be having another player has entered the ring. Because the East is already so stacked. It already feels deflating to be like, man, the Sixers look good. And so does five other teams that seem like they're going to be impossible to get out of the first or second round with. And now the Bulls kind of putting it together. It's exciting as an NBA fan, but it does feel just positively jammed in the East as NBA fans.

There's a lot of good teams in the East, but Sixers fans don't need to worry about the Bulls. If I'm not mistaken, Joel Embiid has never lost to the Bulls in his career. That's crazy. He's lucky he missed this last game, though. Levine 11 for 13 from three. I don't think Embiid's sticking Levine on the perimeter there.

I don't know, man. He'll do what it takes. Yeah. We were just saying, he's undefeated. He's like, but those people that were on the court, they are not undefeated.

He's Aaron Rodgers of the NBA, you know? Right. So with Zach Levine kind of turning a corner, like one of the most recent things I read was like, you know, the relationship between him and Billy Donovan is they call it strained, but workable. Like, you know, does it you think that's anything to worry about? Or that's just kind of a little side note that isn't going to really detract too much? I think there must certainly be some kind of problems and some sort of tension between

Donovan and Levine, just because back before DeRozan came, Zach Levine was the man for the Bulls. And when DeRozan signed on in Chicago, it kind of seemed like they were going to be 1A and 1B. But to me, it kind of turned pretty quickly into DeRozan is number one. And the guy's taking every shot in the fourth quarter and doing a great job with it. He's been one of the best fourth quarter scores this season and last season. But that has sometimes left Zach Levine watching and just waiting to see what DeRozan does.

There was also an incident earlier this year where Levine got benched in the fourth corner of the game, which I think he's kind of still holding on to. But he also had an incredible game against the Sixers in that fourth quarter where he kind of got to be the man. He was passing the ball. He was relocating. He was finding three pointers. So I think that can still work things out. But certainly there's a little bit of tension there. Of course, the Bulls just signed Billy Donovan to an extension, so it doesn't seem like he's going anywhere. Zach Levine just got a big, huge contract as well. Doesn't feel like he's going anywhere immediately.

They're going to have to figure it out. The good thing is they're winning some games right now. That seems to be the way to work things out. Yeah. I was like, nah, it doesn't look too bad. And even like, you know, you guys played the Celtics, right? I was looking at Celtics Twitter. They were shook after that game.

They were like, hey, man, I'm glad we don't have to play them for a while. They're shook because the Bulls already beat them twice this year. 2-2 now against the Celtics. And Levine was hot in that fourth quarter. Hit 15. Got the lead down to two after DeRozan went out. Took a real tough step back. Sort of a little fadeaway that went off.

And then the Bulls doubled. Bound out more for the corner. He rattled at home. Touched 9,000 times on the rim, still somehow dropped. Celtics win. But you can see why they're shook. They don't want to see the Bulls in a 1-8 series. Yeah. It's going to be interesting to see who gets that sixth seed.

I think a lot of people are waiting for the Pacers to fade, but they're 8-2 over the last 10. But the Bulls are 10-2 versus the Celtics, Bucks, Heat, Nets, and Jazz. I don't know why I threw the Jazz in there. I feel like that might be cheating a little bit. They were on top of the game for a while back in the day. A while ago, yeah. We were looking at them through different lenses for sure.

Yeah, it's kind of funny because the criticism of the Bulls last season was that they were just beating up on the worst teams in the league. They had a great record against teams with under 500, but I think they were 1 in 14 or something like that against the top four seeds in the league. This year, they're really struggling against the worst teams in the league, but for whatever reason, they can beat all the top teams. Unfortunately, being able to beat the bad teams is what gives you really good seeds when it comes to playoff time. You gotta have that part, yeah. They're like, oh, you want us to do both?

Oh, okay. Well, you didn't write that. You didn't write, oh, they're so good. What's better, our record against them, or which one would you rather have? Okay, I think we'd rather beat the top teams, okay? Just putting it out there. You'd rather beat the top teams

so you at least get media people picking one win in the playoffs. You know, it's better than somebody saying, oh, Bulls are getting swept out of the playoffs here. Bucks in five? I can take that. I gotta ask. You mentioned you were seven

years old in 1991, which would make you perhaps someone born in 1984, which would perhaps make you 38 years old, just like I am. God-level math god level math and i'm i would like to talk about another 38 year old that makes me feel so inadequate this man named lebron james oh yeah yeah lebron yeah i think i've heard of him yeah he's i was saying oh it's so funny to me that you you always always compare myself to LeBron.

You're always comparing yourself to LeBron because you're born in the same year. Yeah. It's a weird insidious thing I have since being like a child. You know what I mean? Like you're always like, oh, well, that kid's an eighth grader. So of course he's going to be a little bit better than me. I'm only in seventh grade. You know what I mean?

And with LeBron, I'm like, yeah, okay. Yeah. Yeah. He looks good. I'm like, not even on the team in high high school but it's just like this weird comparative thing i can't help be like man we're the same age and now it's funny because my relationship to lebron is like i look up to him like he's my daddy sometimes i'm like please i've always viewed lebron as more of a son figure oh good for you yeah here to, here to guide him along the way.

That four-year age advantage. So you look at LeBron as your little brother, in a way? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because of the age thing? LeBron, yeah. Okay. See, because he's my classmate that I'm constantly being like, God, man, when am I going to get as good as him?

Man, I remember when I discovered the Basketball Jones was the playoffs where he was going against the Celtics. He was down, I think three, two in the Eastern conference finals. He had just had that bad finals. And I was just so like pulling for him to break through this wall and like

get to the finals. And I was just consuming so much basketball content, but yeah, it was, it was a blast listening to you guys talk LeBron over the finals. I was just consuming so much basketball content. But yeah, it was a blast listening to you guys talk LeBron over the years. It's crazy that he is in year 20, and he's going to be an all-NBA player. I think the same, man. I'm like, 1984, what a special year.

I was born, LeBron was born, Jordan was drafted. It was magic. If you were born in 1984, you do get a little bit of credit I think for all those cool basketball things that happen. There was just something in the year that locked people in for basketball fans. But yeah, it's honestly wild to still be talking about LeBron through the

entirety of the show. Basically, I mean he was there before the show even started. We've been a long-running podcast in many, many forms. It feels strange because the guy's like one of the most famous people on earth and And he was there before the show even started. We've been a long running podcast in many, many forms. Right. But there are just things that are relatable.

I'm like his daughter and my oldest daughter were born in the exact same month. So I can be like, look, LeBron has Moana birthday parties. We can have a Moana birthday party. Exactly. He's watching the same Disney Plus shows. Yeah. Big Miss by George Orwell. Not, you know,

he picked something else to write about of 84 instead of you guys' birth and LeBron's birth and Jordan being drafted. He didn't know. Yeah, but like people think he's so smart. He's not that smart. He doesn't have all the answers. Like, have you ever read that book?

It doesn't mention Jordan being drafted at all. But I i like i just use that phrase whenever things i don't like are happening i go what is this 1984 but i don't know what it means it's just the way i do things i'm personally still not over that schruder breakaway lob dunk that was like you know it is the sort of oop that i would throw to lebron and that it was like all of us went around his right shin and it like we talked about it last week i'm not gonna stop talking about it because i think it's the coolest most athletic play i've seen this season he catches it like at his right shoe and then smoothly like whips it around and turns it into a windmill two-handed reverse dunk.

It's one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I tried to Google to find it, and people aren't talking that much about it. But do yourself a favor and go into the footnotes of this episode, and we'll link off to it. They have a chance for a little bit of a mini break. They have seven fast break points. Taking away Troy Brown.

Schroeder the ball going again with first slam from schruder i tell you this crowd is they are on fire with that play is there any 38 year old that can do that aside from obviously trey trey and i could obviously do that uh i mean lower the hoop I never said what height Trey we're talking about on a 7 foot rim I didn't even really realize how bad of a lob that was by Dennis Schroeder

how does he get above his own shoulder on that one here's a free one for all the content creators out there I want to see a super cut of the worst lobs ever thrown to LeBron. Yeah. Just salvaged by his pure athleticism. I think like one of his coolest highlights from his first tenure in Cleveland. So, you know, like 09 or something like that. I think it's

Mo Williams who throws him a lob, like not even close to the hoop, probably three feet up into the right of even the square on the backboard. And the highlight is just LeBron jumping up to catch it so it doesn't go out of bounds. And it's unbelievable. Oh, yeah. That was the one where people were like, is this the most obscene jump we've ever seen in our time? Yeah, it's like he made catching a pass look incredible. That's all he did.

He just went up and jumped and caught it. So I'm sure between that, Dennis Schroeder, all these other plays over the last 20 years, you could easily put together a terrible lobs compilation for LeBron. It's just like, yeah, lob mixtape. Bad lobs. Yeah, wait, hold on.

I just want to see this one more time. Whoa! Comes in, comes down and almost hits his head on the rim on the way down from catching the ball. Yeah. Oh my goodness. Just throw it up. Yeah.

Even close to the hoop. He'll get it. Oh man. But the Lakers are in it. They haven't had a lot of time with both LeBron and AD, but they're, they're winning some games. LeBron's looked incredible averaging 38 since his 38th birthday prior to missing Monday's game against the nuggets with ankle soreness. Uh, the Lakers were on a four Oh streak LeBron over that stretch,

47 points, nine boards, 10 assists, 43 points, 11 boards, six assists, 25, 10, and 7, 37, 8, and 7. Yeah. Yeah, that 25, 10, and 7, that's off night for him. You know? It's bad. He has been on one. You talk about, like, players will have a showcase game, or they'll decide to showcase a player,

so they get a whole bunch more minutes, and, you know, a whole bunch more touches the show. Yeah, look at this. I can raise my trade value. That's almost the exact opposite with LeBron. It's like LeBron showcase right now where he's just balling so hard and putting up such crazy numbers that it's like, look how good I am. You need to make some trades. Please support me here because I still got it. I still got quite a bit here. This is not just a crowning glory kind of season. He's really turning it on right now.

Westbrook is at least being productive, putting up the numbers. Thomas Bryant is falling out of his mind right now. And Dennis Schroeder seems to have found a little bit of a fountain of youth. They've put together a decent little streak here. It started by beating up on some bad teams, but they're getting decent victories. And LeBron, with the

way he's playing, undeniably, the Lakers have a shot in any sort of playoff series. Yeah. 100%. I love to hear that. I mean, yeah, I think it's, it's good to see that positive movement, but yeah, to your point, it's like, so we have this guy who's LeBron James and he's playing like this. So what's your move? Yeah. Uh, and I hope that move is made on behalf of the amount of NBA basketball that he has played and he's And I hope that move is made. The amount of NBA basketball that he has played and he's still doing that

So good. You know, it's great to see them ascend like this. Like you said, it's been 17 years 17 years uh miles turner had himself a game earlier this week 29 points nine boards four blocks including uh what wound up being a game-saving block and a win over the hornets again another person been involved in a lot of trade rumors and maybe we can just just enjoy watching him play basketball because he's pretty good. I need him so he can play the four. Get over here, Miles.

Still only 26, though. I mean, he's so young. That's the thing with Miles Turner. He's been around for quite some time. Been rumored to be on the move since maybe last trade deadline, even through the summer, obviously. collection because he's got a great Lego collection, I believe. Oh, really? Yeah. Is he like a master builder? You don't know? I mean, look, I'm already feeling wholly inadequate about LeBron James. I don't need to then be bested by someone with the same name as me with a better Lego collection who's younger.

M-y-l-e-s i feel like that's the spelling they'd give him in like a they'd give the name miles in a movie about like hackers that was like made in the 80s or something oh yeah yeah yeah i remember i went to school with another kid who was called m-y-l-e-s and i told every i remember being so like in my bag about it i was like that that's not he's not really a miles that's not how you spell that also shout out to the real one miles davis who's my namesake you know from alton illinois there you go yeah why would you not use the spelling of miles davis the coolest human whoever literally the birth of cool like what are y'all doing being cool yeah

yeah yeah exactly i mean we saw billy madison being your pants is cool consider me miles davis that's right uh laurie markinan putting up a 49 wow yo i mean he's he's doing all right he's doing all right he's doing all right the bulls gave up on him too early but they never used him like this. Like, this is crazy. He's got like 70 dunks and 70 made threes on the year. That's unbelievable. I think he had eight alone in the game against the Bulls.

He had a huge one on Vucevic's head. There's so much space out there. He looks athletic. Will Hardy figured out how to use marketing. It was just like, he just watched him on the Finnish national team. He's like, this guy can ball. Let's have him do some stuff.

And now he's doing everything. Right. Thought we weren't going to go for it, but I guess this guy's got something. of all time. But yeah, Zion would be also pretty unstoppable. He'd probably be the cheat code. I feel like he would have a huge buff, as we say in the video game world. He wouldn't get nerfed down. They wouldn't nerf down that town. They'd get all kinds of buffs
