Starting point is 00:01:37 where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? It's right here in black and white and prints. It's bigger than a flag or mascot. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:02:00 Hello, the Internet, and welcome to this episode of A Trend with Weed is a friend indeed. That is courtesy of Miles Gray and Leprechaun in the Hood. And I'm allowed to do that voice. Yeah, that's a leprechaun and I'm Irish. I'm Jack, you are Miles. Because that's an offensive stereotype and I'm Irish. Hey, what's happening on this fine Friday afternoon? Happy October to you.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Happy October. Spooky season. Wow, what a time. Okay, so the USPS. Talk about spooky. These delivery times are scaring the heck out of me, Miles. So mail delivery for many americans will slow starting today uh which is part of postmaster general uh lewis de joy's blueprint for uh making
Starting point is 00:02:56 the usps like worse is basically he's like yeah make it profitable and slash costs and it's only ever uh people who are like trump a jace or you know trump appointees that are real concerned about slashing costs when uh democrats and in office what a fucking i mean when you look at like how slow things are gonna move now it's it it's absurd we the postal service was again like most people were saying like it's like the one good functioning part of the government that is like trying their best despite some ghoulish dejoy trying to fuck everything up um but i mean until they can sort out how to get him out i mean i don't i still don't understand why i had to get him out I still don't understand why have they tried to get him out? yeah why is he still there? wasn't he trying to rat fuck the election
Starting point is 00:03:49 last we heard last we checked in with him well you know I was just I'm just messing with some look I had to dismantle them and they're hard to put back together it was a whole thing maybe I was maybe I wasn't but I don't know
Starting point is 00:04:03 I'm pretty sure the last one of the last things was like the fbi was investigating him because of like campaign fundraising stuff oh right yeah what is this how is this person staying in office well yeah and i think that's the thing is like by biden could absolutely just clean the fuck up but i'm i'm not entirely sure this there's so many i guess other issues to focus on but it's not it's not like he can't be ousted it's like he's a supreme court justice right so people are pointing out that bill delivery will sudden suddenly be much slower you might be late on your bills, both receiving them and paying them if you still pay via mail. It's going to undermine the public's faith in the USPS
Starting point is 00:04:53 heading into the time that we are most reliant on the USPS, which is when we're all sending each other prezzies. That's what it is. It's the postal board That can fire him And Biden has like appointees But there's still these There's still some Trump people in there
Starting point is 00:05:14 That are keeping him in place Got it But you know I'm pretty sure there's ways to get more aggressive Whatever Yeah a letter will take From going like three days if it was going from chicago to the west coast or singleton i'll take like five or something like that jesus the super bowl halftime show was announced uh yesterday right after we
Starting point is 00:05:36 recorded um it is going to be produced by rock nation and feature uh kendrick snoop dr dre mary j blige and eminem now i'm starting to like realize what it was like when like you two would do the halftime show i'm like who's this for right and i was like all the older people right and then like mary j blige dr dre snoop and i'm like come on now bring it on home get him up there love to see it yeah well i mean god but that's also like a weird that's an interesting thing given how a lot of people were really focused on the lack of you know uh what am i looking for uh dressing addressing systemic oppression like in the nfl or their their lack of really trying to get behind certain things, like kneeling. But how quickly things change when Jay-Z is working with the NFL,
Starting point is 00:06:35 because now you just open the door and get these other at-backs in. Yeah. It was a really obviously bad look when he was first partnered up with the nfl but now we're seeing like the outcome of that partnership and it's like oh colin kaepernick isn't getting a tryout or they're gonna allow people to kneel it's like no but hold on eminem and mary j blige snoop dogg and dr j will be at the halftime show. I mean, a lot of hits here. A lot of hits. Yeah, too many.
Starting point is 00:07:09 Yeah, what are they? I mean, there's going to be a lot of Chronic 2001. There's going to be a lot of whatever Kendrick's. I'm guessing speaking of the name of this episode, I'm guessing there's going to be lots of Top of the Morning. Top of the Morning. Top of the Morning. Could you imagine he just does that for 10 minutes
Starting point is 00:07:27 just like a brother and start peace yeah yeah i'm i'm here for it the toxicology reports on michael k williams came back and as suspected he did overdose on fentanyl it just emphasizes like how dangerous it is right now for people who use drugs, um, the importance of testing your drugs, especially they're, they're pointing out that like people who take a break and are like relapsing, you know, it's not,
Starting point is 00:07:53 it's not always the time when you're at your most like logical or like patient. Um, and that is killing people who, you know, are used to using at a time when fentanyl wasn't in a lot of drugs. So just be very, very careful. In 2020, the U.S. had its worst year on record for fatal overdoses with 93,000 deaths, which is an astounding number. And more than 60% of those were linked to fentanyl.
Starting point is 00:08:23 So it's a massive crisis of where Americans are being poisoned. Um, because it's in drugs and America is built on this like puritanical foundation. People aren't treating it like poisoning. They're just like, you know, well,
Starting point is 00:08:40 it shouldn't do fentanyl then. Yeah. It's like, well, they're not doing, Oh my God. Okay. Thanks for the compassion folks. Yeah. of trump yeah uh what is that because the majority of trump
Starting point is 00:08:53 supporters around 52 said that they agreed that they would favor red or blue states seceding from Seating from the union. Okay. Yeah. I mean, sure. Ask someone who has no idea of how anything works. Like they're paying on secession. But sure. I get the energy. I get the energy.
Starting point is 00:09:31 I see you all out there saying you could do your own thing without understanding supply chains or how a lot of services work as it relates to the federal government but i mean i think that's just sort of uh the tone at the moment just just be your own country right because it's that easy has there ever been like a country that was like a patchwork quilt of like disconnected like all the red states like were part of one country and all the blue states were part of another like just not connected yeah oh i mean i think that's just typically when civil wars break out oh right but yeah i i mean who knows i mean there is an idea of what it would look like check out it could happen here from robert evans yeah i stopped thinking about civil wars after axel rose said what what's so civil about war anyways i was like dude dude god no anyways that's that's pretty wild uh and i feel like they really believe that with their you know whole body as we saw on january 6th i mean that's it's very true i i don't doubt that these people would think that
Starting point is 00:10:25 the solution to all of this is to just be their own country or whatever the fuck they think or civil war yeah yeah and which is another another thing that keeps being discussed yeah all right let's take a quick break and we'll come back and talk about joe rogan oh Joe Rogan. Oh. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other,
Starting point is 00:11:21 a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current, available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that.
Starting point is 00:11:52 I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session, 24 hours. BPM 110, 120. She's terrified. Should we wake her up? Absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:12:11 What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people.
Starting point is 00:12:28 There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app,
Starting point is 00:12:40 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. It was December 2019 when the story blew up. In Green Bay, Wisconsin, former Packers star Kabir Bajabiamila caught up in a bizarre situation. KGB explaining what he believes led to the arrest of his friends at a children's Christmas play. A family man, former NFL player, devout Christian, now cut off from his family and connected to a strange arrest. I am going to share my journey of how I went from Christianity to
Starting point is 00:13:14 now a Hebrew Israelite. I got swept up in Kabir's journey, but this was only the beginning in a story about faith and football, the search for meaning away from the gridiron, and the consequences for everyone involved. You mix homesteading with guns and church and a little bit of the spice of conspiracy theories that we liked. Voila! You got straight away. I felt like I was living in North Korea, but worse, if that's possible. Listen to Spiraled on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. How do you feel about biscuits? Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit,
Starting point is 00:13:52 where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the biscuits. I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? The Boone County Rebels will stay the Boone County Rebels with the image of the Biscuits. It's right here in black and white in print. A lion. An individual that came to the school saying that God sent him to talk to me about the mascot switch. As a leader, you choose hills that you want to die on.
Starting point is 00:14:21 Why would we want to be the losing team? I'd just take all the other stuff out of it. Segregation academies. When civil rights said that we need to integrate public schools, these charter schools were exempt from that. Bigger than a flag or mascot. You have to be ready for serious backlash. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app,
Starting point is 00:14:41 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. It's time to check in with our podcast overlord, Joe Rogan, the person that now is most often, if I'm talking to friend of a friend or something, and they hear that I work podcast podcast oh yeah no i love joe rogan love joe rogan love jerry do you work for joe rogan or like what's the deal hey do you
Starting point is 00:15:12 work with joe rogan yeah i do i do we uh we roll we roll all the time at the jujitsu place yeah it's fun you brainstorm all sorts of absurd bullshit that he can uh speculate about what's his uh what's his bullshit du jour uh bullshit du jour is that he doesn't think joe biden actually got the covid booster uh on tv this week which is so what is it what is he saying it is like what does he just think i don't think they would take that chance. All right, come on. The president faked it all when he claimed to have received his third dose of the Pfizer vaccine.
Starting point is 00:15:52 I think if they were going to give him a booster shot, the last thing they would do is give it to him live on television. What if he dies? Well, see, that's the fucking point is he's not going to die and he didn't fucking safe. You dumb. No, no, no. He fucking point is he's not going to die. And he didn't fucking say if you dumb. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:16:07 He'd die. He'd black out. He turned into a werewolf. What if he blacks out? What if he like gets it and faints? Like because people have had very bad reactions like in the moment for whatever reason. That's not a fucking explanation. You're OK. Anyway.
Starting point is 00:16:24 Go off. Go off, honey. do your thing over there queen that also sounds like you just know when people like you can hear even though this is a written down uh like quote of his you can hear how he the momentum was deflating in that dumb fucking thought like yeah like what if he blacks out what if like he gets it and faints like because people have had very bad reactions like in the moment for whatever reason okay you're so vague you didn't read the book right your book report was bad sir this is all vague so yeah but like you know for whatever reason and therefore uh such as furthermore condition underlying yeah within uh yeah joe rogan is a stoned guy who didn't do his homework um brett is trending yeah brett calves got the rona brett
Starting point is 00:17:16 calves got the ron doggy brett cavie with the ron yeah he tested positive he's a some he's asymptomatic he's vaccinated blah blah blah um but a lot of people like he was like at some running like some marathon event with like other members of the government or something and there's this weird picture of him like sticking his tongue out like with a washington senator's hat is like running in his racing bib it's oh damn did did he have short shorts on do you have those short runners no dude he looked like a fucking dad who was chasing a hot dog vendor in like central park or something it's like not like nothing athletic about it so um you know that's shocking to me and any other time i think people have been like brett kavanaugh dude come on. Cue up the Ghanaian Paul Bearer music. Let's see what's happening.
Starting point is 00:18:05 But no, we're stuck with these people. I think in retrospect, where we've gone, his performance where he just said he loved beer and cried aggressively and angrily, we've just kind of memory hold that a little bit but it is so wild that that happened well i think because it's just so painful to watch yeah that someone who it seems so evident just with how like aggressive their defense was right that you're like dude these you just come off as such a guilty person even if you did even if you didn't
Starting point is 00:18:45 do what that what is being alleged you just don't seem like you have your fit to be making decisions on like other people's bodies at all when you're saying things like what was it to amy klobuchar i was like are you an alcoholic right and she's like fam no i'm not and first of all like what the fuck don't don't chest pass that but right back to me like that yeah it was yeah it was just rambling um yeah and he's on the supreme court and going to determine if term limits term limits term limits for everything term limits for them term limits for even democrat richard blumenthal who's demanding the end of finsta uh finsta is a product that you own and so let's get let's get it done with because the kids are doing the finsta too much in my opinion no that's not how and like and you and you oh you are running swisher sweets Company? Yes. And will you end blunts?
Starting point is 00:19:46 Will you put an end to blunts? Well, the blunt isn't a product we make. People use the cigars. I'm just asking. Ma'am, I will have you know I listened to Joe Rogan. He did talk about Finsta. And he told me that you guys are doing a Finsta. Okay.
Starting point is 00:20:04 And you can deny it as much as you want, but you did the Finsta and now you're going to do the Time Sta. Dibbly. Yeah. That guy, that person I was just doing an impression of wasn't very funny. Let's talk about dunkers.
Starting point is 00:20:21 Oh, yeah. Time to talk them. Dunkers, dunkers. I love a dunker. Jos johnson at king josiah 54 asking twitter who is the best in-game dunker ever in basketball if i'm not being clear great cue josiah you know a lot of people are out here for sean kemp which i think sean kemp might be my answer because just absolute like power and just rim abuse rim abuse yeah yeah just absolute just crushing people he dunked on rims he dunked on and then like his landing sometimes you have a little swag
Starting point is 00:21:02 like just like oh yeah get my balance because I basically landed on earth as a fucking alien. Yeah. That was always a lot of fun watching shack dunk on somebody and have that person, um, that person's body react as though they just stepped on a live landmine, um, is always exciting,
Starting point is 00:21:22 uh, where they're just like blown backwards Dominique Wilkins I don't think I watched a single live game that he played in in his prime I saw him play as a clipper right yeah yeah like that's when
Starting point is 00:21:38 I got to it this motherfucker can't even in the dunk contests back then because i was like five and thought like that shit was so cool but yeah like when you look at the highlights of him he a lot of rim abuse and just a an amazing athlete but a lot of people are pointing out that like vince carter is the best dunker ever whether you're talking contests or not like he jumped over a seven foot guy's head and dunked
Starting point is 00:22:06 on him i mean that will never you know frederick weiss will never live that down you we've never seen something like that uh i thought you'd say we've never seen him again after we never saw him again he went into hiding. He absolutely went into hiding. Vince Carter was just such a... He was a poet with his dunking. A lot of people were like, people aren't saying Stromile Swift enough.
Starting point is 00:22:35 I was like, whoa, interesting contribution. Beza Dabu was like, where's the love for Stromile Swift? That's interesting. wow um jordan was also a really fun in-game dunker um but not yeah i mean obviously i feel like he would usually do it on fast breaks um he wouldn't like go out of his way to just fucking dunk on someone in in traffic because right there's not a competitive advantage to that
Starting point is 00:23:06 as much as it's just fun to do who's the best endgame dunker right now i mean lebron was for a while really yeah fun to fun to watch i feel like i have an answer to this and it's just escaping my mind right now i'm i'm old yeah blake griffin back in the day yeah blake griffin back in the day uh that's back in my i mean he's still there but she's still in the league um i mean deandre jordan was really fun yeah he's like a utility dunker yeah he does just like dunk whenever he wants to he's like a dunk for any occasion type yeah yeah for whom the dunk tolls yeah all right well that's been our riveting discussion riveting discussion of dunkers uh dunkers also just feels like a thing that like
Starting point is 00:24:03 somebody who's not into basketball would call it yep exactly i love a good dunker man you know a sick dunker what a great hell yeah anyways get at us nba fans let us know who we missed uh in our zero suggestions of uh who the best dunker in the modern nba is we're back on monday with the whole last episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other, be kind to yourselves, get the vaccine, don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we'll talk to you all on Monday. Bye. Bye-bye.
Starting point is 00:24:38 Kay hasn't heard from her sister in seven years. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. What was that? That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. Can Kay trust her sister
