Starting point is 00:00:00 what happened just walking into my fucking just to the mic over here kicked the fucking clothing rack and blew my fucking toes off oh yeah you know that's like the worst i don't i don't know you know the fucked up part is you know when you you fucking hit your toes walking and shit like you catch it on the corner of a table, whatever. And like there's that space between where you hit it and you're like, I fucked it. And then it those like like your neurons actually have to start firing in your brain to feel the pain. It's that in between. That's like the most I don't know if it's exhilarating or fucking anxiety inducing.
Starting point is 00:00:44 She was like, it's the only time I feel alive, man. It's that space between. The space between. I have to do that every time before, you know. Is that what Dave Matthews was talking about? I think he was, yeah. Hitting your toe. The space between when you stub your toe.
Starting point is 00:00:59 Ah, dude. I get, like, irrationally angry. Like, I want to yell at someone. Dude, I'm not joking. I never feel stupider than I do after I just destroy my pinky toe on a table. I get laughed at
Starting point is 00:01:15 when I have my big reactions. Yeah, me too. Because I do like, what the fuck? Is usually what I say. I'm like, fuck my foot. And then it just turns into laughter at my house yeah yeah oh daddy hurt his foot not for me not for me i'm not laughing i'm uh i'm mad at them if i was with you i would i would did you remember that scene in i don't know if you watched the american office where like roy uh got his jet ski stolen but then he's like him and his
Starting point is 00:01:44 brother at a bar and they get mad but his brother just to have his back also just gets mad and starts like breaking stuff irrationally just to have his brother he's like i hate this place and the brother's like yeah things off the shelf yeah uh yeah it's a bad feeling. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church,
Starting point is 00:02:29 an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high-control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold
Starting point is 00:02:49 and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions. Like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed?
Starting point is 00:03:23 Or, can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes. Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Saner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it like you miss 100% of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself.
Starting point is 00:03:55 Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career. Without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese.
Starting point is 00:04:23 I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them. Why is that? I just come here to play basketball every single day and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch.
Starting point is 00:04:42 She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture.
Starting point is 00:05:00 Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this Monday morning Weak Trends edition of... Yeah. Yeah. My name is Jack. that over there is miles yes sir he is in seduction
Starting point is 00:05:29 mode yes i am so i had to had to make eyes at the at the trash guy today is monday trash day for you sometimes it's when it's very weird uh it's it's usually monday uh no it's usually tuesday but i heard the truck but they were picking up i think something else randomly outside and i had that like response you're like the fucking kids you know what i mean jump through your front window yeah dude i feel like there's for whatever reason that the way my like hearing the reverse beeping of a trash truck can break me out of my sleep yeah yeah it's fucking insane yeah i just like rise up like a vampire popping out of a coffin when i hear that shit um no going back to sleep it's wild how the trash day like your local trash day really organizes your week like ours is friday and
Starting point is 00:06:25 it feels like that's like that you know the finish line is trashed yeah you know that's wild time that kind of like it's sort of hard for me to even picture that right that's like being like the school year starts in november i'm like what yeah exactly but it's just it has to be earlier the fact that your trash day is not on friday seems wrong to me yeah right what the fuck is this guy's because for me it's like hey man reset the trash clock for this week yeah exactly and you're just sort of like let's get the fucking wasting party started exactly um all right well my name is jack that is miles gray uh this is the episode where we tell you some of the things that were trending over the weekend some of the things that happened over
Starting point is 00:07:09 the weekend uh but first we get to know each other a little bit better um by telling you some things we think is underrated some things we think is overrated uh let's start with underrated miles what's something you think is underrated? It's going to sound abstract as I say it out loud, but stay with me. Using math as a way to process things like moderation. Because I think moderation can sometimes be like a nebulous concept in our minds. An abstraction that we can't quite be like, what am I? Measurably? is this in moderation wait bro did you listen to the terrence howard episode of joe rogan is that what's going on
Starting point is 00:07:51 uh i don't know what that has to do with this like my peloton instructor for one of my runs that was like spent 10 minutes talking about terror teriology like how she's into it. This white woman who calls people mama. You should not snitch on yourself by outing yourself as a teriology fan. She was just like, he made so much sense. But she has a British accent so she's just like...
Starting point is 00:08:17 That's even more dangerous. If Terrence Howard had an English accent, I feel like a lot more Americans. Yeah. Oh yeah. This would be a much more interesting presidential election because there'd be another third party candidate jesus christ yeah and then like he's not american it's like i know but i need to say this like this anyway so we talk a lot about human connection i recently heard something about how much like
Starting point is 00:08:42 social media has begun to like replace person to person interaction especially like like in the pandemic like we just got used to like getting sort of like this feeling of socializing through a screen at times and shit even some podcasts um but no in my mind i try my best to keep up with friends and plan to have like as many in-person interactions like on the weekends when I have free time as possible but I didn't really like have a way to measure it so like in my mind I'm like oh yeah I'm probably have a good balance of like use being on my phone or social media versus like being around friends but then I realized my phone literally tells me fucking every week like how much time I'm spending on certain apps like whether my usage has gone up or
Starting point is 00:09:25 down and so what i've been trying to do is really be mindful now in a measurable way of the ratio between using tiktok and youtube or reddit and all that other social media shit and actual like person-to-person things so if i'm spending x amount i'm looking at the numbers, man. I'm looking at the numbers. And when I see that, like I've spent, damn, I spent a shit load of time on these apps. I'm like, is that matching to the amount of time I spent with friends, with parent, with family, whatever. And if that number is higher than the other, I'm like, okay, we need to sort that. We need to address that. So I've been sort of using that to sort of like even motivate myself further to be like you may think you're doing this but really be mindful
Starting point is 00:10:10 even if it's a phone call even if it's like yo man like i'm i'm about to go on a walk or whatever you live up the street come over you want to have breakfast you want to grab a coffee whatever i've just used that to kind of really give myself the ability to sort of see how that time is being split up so i think it's a good tool just to kind of really give myself the ability to sort of see how that time is being split up. So I think it's a good tool just to kind of be mindful. How are you keeping track of it? You got a spreadsheet? What are we talking?
Starting point is 00:10:32 No, because, you know, there's like a screen time app in Apple. Okay. That tells you every week, it gives you a report. Like, this is how much you, these are like your top used apps for X amount of hours every week or whatever. And then I'm like, oh, if I'm not spending time with friends and shit in equal measure, if not more, then I'm like, then
Starting point is 00:10:50 maybe let's begin to, let's emphasize that. Let's emphasize that. And it's like an easier way to motivate myself because it's measurable rather than before I was going off the vibes. I'm like, yeah, I saw somebody last weekend, but it's like for a little bit, you know what I mean? One 15-minute interaction. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I've talked on here before about but it's like for a little bit you know i mean like rather than like one 15 minute interaction yeah yeah yeah exactly i've like i've talked on here before about how like
Starting point is 00:11:09 it's really like trying to put myself out there like get back in touch with old friends and it's literally like two calls a week like sometimes right giving myself i'm big upping myself uh whereas that's why i just use the numbers like that was all there was to do i yeah the phone is insidious for sure yeah but i think that's why it's a good thing to see like oh shit four fucking hours last week on reddit yeah then that's how man you better at least put it five with the people with the people oh so hard so hard yeah um and i definitely count like being with my family as part of that too but i also it's easy to sort of be just around your at-home family because obviously you live with everyone while also remembering you got to keep those social bonds alive too but how do you
Starting point is 00:11:56 know uh how do you get validation like are you taking down when you're hanging out with them are you like okay and i'm gonna take that one as a like on my comment there and uh victor i know just a smile on that so i'm gonna i'm gonna actually take that as a ha ha um because i need yeah i need those i need the validation and i need it uh logged somewhere when they did that i raise when i was talking about teriology that counts as an emphasizing tap back and i message yeahage. Yeah, absolutely. All right. Well, mine's going to sound a little bit vague, a little bit out there, but I think underrated is
Starting point is 00:12:31 Billy Joel's Greatest Hits album. Wow. BJ on the brain, huh? After that talk with Dom? Yeah, after that talk, I don't know. My friend and I got on the subject of Greatest Hits albums over the weekend. And the impact that they had on
Starting point is 00:12:47 my music taste in middle school. Bob Marley, Billy Joel, Elton John, The Doors, Simon and Garfunkel, Queen. Those greatest hits albums were so load-bearing for me. Right, right. I don't know. They're the only reason I really got into that type of classic rock music. I didn't have it in me to do a whole album
Starting point is 00:13:20 of Simon and Garfunkel or Billy Joel in particularel in particular like with all the like skips and like misses like billy joel's like as we talked about last week billy joel is not cool and so he right a full album where it's like there's a couple hits on here and then there's this like concept song about you know where he's just being embarrassing. The Doors, I feel like, are another example where I don't think I could have dealt with a Doors album that's like a
Starting point is 00:13:54 couple good songs and then I find them essentially pretty embarrassing. Wow. Everyone hates The Doors. I know. I don't know why. Controversial opinion. They kept me employed through college so i can't really i can't bite the hand that feeds yeah um wait how did they keep you employed i used to archive a lot of their photos like that they had
Starting point is 00:14:17 like i right because it was a nepo job through i got my dad a photographer and his his like best friend in high school became their manager when they were in high school hey man i should i should shut the fuck up about the no i don't give a shit i'm the same way i i only know their hits like if some weird shit came i'm like i don't know what the fuck this is you know what i mean like i know i know all that i know the hits but if you if you played like a fucking random track on like LA woman, I'd be like, dude, I don't know what the fuck this is.
Starting point is 00:14:48 Yeah. Yeah. And I feel like greatest hits albums are like the Billy Joel of albums where it's like, we don't really like to admit how much we listened to them or like how important they were. Uh, but like they,
Starting point is 00:15:04 they were there like i feel like they got a lot of sales a lot of listens and then they just like disappeared like at a certain point yeah um presume like i think it's probably the internet allows us to curate our own greatest hits albums so it doesn't playlists yeah yeah or like you go to the artist page and like see what the most listened to tracks are but it's that's also like not always that great a way of figuring out like what you're gonna like from an artist like one of the songs might have been featured in trek 3 and have like a million listens like in the pre-streaming era i used to like on bit torrent download like
Starting point is 00:15:46 if i was starting to get into a new artist or it was like into a new genre i would always start with the greatest hits first yeah to kind of bring to my front like okay what is everybody fucking with from this artist and then if i like those then i'd be like okay now now i'll pirate the individual albums then like start to educate myself a little bit more so it's a good gateway yeah it's a good gateway and i feel like i don't i haven't like read that definitive article that's like all right these are the best greatest hits albums that you know for that were very impactful and you know they're treated as kind of lame, which they are in a lot of ways. They're not for the real heads who have
Starting point is 00:16:28 the deep knowledge of the artists. At the same time, I don't know. I feel like most people believe that that Bob Marley album, Legend, is the only album he ever made.
Starting point is 00:16:42 Yeah. Yeah, man. I believe the first legend man it's like one love like i feel like i kind of know you know how you do listen to cd so much you kind of know like okay the when i put this one in one love i know it's gonna be the first song yeah exactly yeah they're like those are some of the albums that i know the best of any album yeah yeah not everybody can like like i don't know the beatles or rolling stone or like radiohead like i'm sure they have greatest hits albums or like rem because like i those were artists who i was willing to just like go on a weird like
Starting point is 00:17:17 springsteen i feel like he has a greatest hits album but it's not like that important of a thing because people are willing to like go on an album journey with those artists but which is so funny for these artists i can always picture their like the greatest hits out like i know with bob marley it's that legend one yeah he's like this where he's posing like it's with his back to it with the guitar over his shoulder that's just a copy of the uh born in the usa right or it's a reference oh it's not okay that makes sense yeah simon garfunkel it's them like that that cover you know them yeah the black and white photo uh i think it's like faded color like 70s color photography and like oh yeah yeah simon has the
Starting point is 00:18:00 shirt with a blazer on and they yeah they got a real real specific look going uh that hat mr garfunkel all right what's uh what's something you think overrated overrated pringles wow okay i'm just gonna go there bro i had a fucking rough weekend all right i'm not fucking around pringles fucking pissed i'm just they're just pretty unsatisfying you know like i'm i'm really into actual potato chips these days i love like a break your teeth because it's so natural type of hard kettle fried potato chip kind of thing and i had some pringles and they were just like fucking just so unsatisfying Like for that chip Feeling like I get that they have
Starting point is 00:18:48 A little bit of crisp to them Whatever and the flavors Like the flavors are fine but like as A chip in the context of eating a chip No and then I looked into it And I didn't realize this I know obviously like you look at this shit You're like that ain't a potato
Starting point is 00:19:02 But this shit is only 42% potato. Yeah. It immediately dissolves. It's like the communion wafer of potato chips. 100%. It just immediately dissolves in your mouth. Yeah, and I guess Procter & Gamble, they had some food scientists be like,
Starting point is 00:19:19 hey, man, people hate broken chips at the bottom of the bag. They're too greasy. Figure it out. And he's just like working with all these weird pastes and shit to arrive at pringles but yeah the guy who invented it didn't actually end up making the final recipe because he couldn't like dial that and someone else came in i was getting way too deep into pringles lore um and but then i realized too
Starting point is 00:19:41 like they have this thing where they can't legally call themselves potato chips in some places and other places they do, but it's all based on like what is more advantageous to them. Like in the U S like they're like, bro, this is 42% potato, man. Like you can't really be out here calling this shit potato chips. And then in the UK, they're like, it's actually not a potato chip at all because they wanted to get around, uh, like a value added to VATat tax like a vat to like sidestep tax yeah yeah so it's uh all that comes together to be like a not chippy thing and the plain ones absolutely disgusting wow yeah like i can't they're just i don't know there's something like cornmeal or whatever the fuck they have in there. Whatever makes up
Starting point is 00:20:27 the other 58%. It's rice meal, corn meal, and wheat fuck. I don't know what it is. Wheat fuck. Yeah, it's wheat fuck. So yeah, Pringles, nah. Nah, thanks. I get the tube, but off you go. Brian, the editor, does have a theory
Starting point is 00:20:43 that you just got your hand stuck in the tube and that's what made you mad this weekend do you care to comment first of all Brian needs to fucking shut the fuck up when I text him shit like hey man and I'm voice notes hey man I can't type right now please look up how to get this shit out over
Starting point is 00:21:00 here yeah what the fuck man I thought we were the message going for two more minutes as you're panicking i'm fucked i'm fucked this is fucking forever this is it i knew it this is it fucking knew it um all right my overrate i gotta grab bag uh how cool my life would be with superpowers i think like i just overheard somebody like having that conversation about like oh man like if you for these children at your kids chess tournament no it was it was a podcast where people adults i used to like talking about this when i was a young man
Starting point is 00:21:38 in my 20s like oh but then i could do i could fly but i didn't have super speed. We wrote a whole episode of After Hours, I think, about like, okay, flying, but flying on its own, you're just kind of hovering at the speed that you can walk. So that would actually kind of suck shit. Yeah. But I just, I hadn't thought about it since I've like been an adult with kids and i'm realizing like it would just be another thing that i would like feel anxiety about and be like oh man i should really get out and fly more but i'm just like wasted potential i i need more sleep than i used to like i used to like i had that i had that month where i was like really just creating the habit
Starting point is 00:22:25 i was like you know getting out there i was flying um but it's actually like it's actually really cold up there and it's like it's i don't want to wear a down jacket when i'm flying in august it just feels weird i look stupid when i land like the whole half of the fun is that i look impressive when i land you're taking out mittens yeah mittens and a beanie and shit like whoa what the fuck i flew okay all right you try being up here um and then the other one is just uh the antagonism towards fools that i grew up around okay I'm a fairly foolish person. I don't know if I fully identify as a fool,
Starting point is 00:23:08 but I have my moments of foolishness. And I was realizing as I heard, I feel like Love Shack is really being played a lot recently for some reason. I'm hearing it a lot of places. Realizing that the only posted rule in the love shack is for fools to stay away sign says stay away fool and then mr t one of my like spiritual leaders when i was a kid catchphrase is just like feeling sorry for me right like damn i don't know man like the the love shack it has very permissive welcoming vibes
Starting point is 00:23:49 and yet the one posted rule no fools sign says stay away fools wow i always thought it was the house rules but it's uh but cuz love rules so right right right i don't know man i'm just like but it's uh but cuz love rules so right right right i don't know man i'm just like what was going on we no room for foolishness in the 80s and 90s i mean even like what a fool believes the doobie brothers one of the saddest songs ever yeah that song is written from the perspective of the guy from fargo when he like meets with... It's just about a guy who's foolish for thinking that he could rekindle a romance with someone and there was never a romance
Starting point is 00:24:34 there. And then he watches her walk away forever. And they emphasize how sad this person's life is. So yeah i don't know i just i i that's why i spent so much time trying to pretend like i was smart and lying to people you know damn in the west coast we just embraced it full yeah that's right i mean yeah and then things changed yeah we took it back and now now we have Ludacris telling us to act a fool.
Starting point is 00:25:06 Yeah, exactly. You know? I wonder, does that mean, is that the turning point? When Ludacris now told us to act a fool? Yeah. Versus not being a fool? Yeah. All right.
Starting point is 00:25:18 I think so. 2003. A lot happened that year. Yeah. Get over it. It's the 2000s. B-52s. We're in a post 9-11 world.
Starting point is 00:25:29 All right. We got other shit to deal with. By the way, I'm foolish and I also think love rules. Okay. So maybe like talk to a couple fools before you make that your posted rule. Anyways. All right. Let's take a quick break and we'll come back and talk about the news.
Starting point is 00:25:53 I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. And we're back. We're back we're back so over the weekend uh there was a new story that was covered in a lot of mainstream publications as like four hostages were rescued um by the idf yeah but look below the headlines and it appears to be 270 palestinians uh were killed yeah uh according to you know most sources on
Starting point is 00:29:28 the ground authority yeah and then israel said less than a hundred were um based on the images an absurd number based on the images or reports from people on the ground this looks more like a massacre not a heroic mission to save four people um one of the gaza-based journalists described as quote children were shot dead elderly people were shot dead women were shot dead um and yeah like you know when you reference those headlines it's clear that the dehumanization of palestinians um is just no issue for the media at all because it's it's all being sort of obscured through this like sort of like yeah, four people rescued rather than hundreds injured and killed. Yeah, the death toll is currently over 37,000.
Starting point is 00:30:12 And this latest attack, I think, is only the ongoing talk of what's going on. Ceasefire? Is it going to happen? You know, Hamas has said that with this shit going on, they're only looking to secure. They're like they need security for palestinian people meanwhile the israelis continue to act like they are you know they they use this rhetoric of bringing the hostages home but it's like nonsense you know like at this point there have been so many offers to to achieve that goal in exchange for a permanent ceasefire but the priority for Netanyahu and what remains of the war cabinet is to keep the war going and the hostages merely serve as like
Starting point is 00:30:49 rhetorical cover for this genocidal campaign like well we have to do this to get the hostages we have to do this too we have to continue killing innocent people to get the hostages including killing innocent hostages exactly yeah yes um but you know with a via a policy where that is entirely predictable yeah and sadly it looks like the biden administration is you know just they're continuing to prove time and again that they're just unwilling to actually use their significant leverage to change anything um anthony blinken is in uh i think israel now to to try and get talks going again but i like it's it's just so disheartening as just the carnage unfolds and then you just get these like gestures of uh trying to work towards a solution that just i'm not i'm not sure when it's going to come and at whose expense
Starting point is 00:31:39 if it's going to be biden losing election and continued people dying in gaza um it's it's not looking not looking good for for anyone so um yeah we will see this week if there's any movement on a ceasefire but god it from what from everything you can see it does not look like that's the interest of israel at the moment yeah it seems like they're working, doing things to actively fuck that up. Yeah, exactly. I think it's clear at this point, from everything that's happening, it's clear they just want to clear Gaza out
Starting point is 00:32:13 and take over. In the perfect situation for them, I don't think there would be a ceasefire. Clear Gaza out via genocide. Yeah. And then continue to annex more land and then there's even more violence in the west bank so there's a there's a lot happening there and uh we we again we will see what comes of this eighth trip i think of anthony
Starting point is 00:32:36 blink into the region um since october 7th yeah netanyahu's more and more out on an island his uh rival uh benny gantz quit the war cabinet um and yeah so it's really i mean it's not like what what he's doing is controversial inside israel as well it's like probably more controversial because people can uh be free to i don't know yeah it's pretty controversial inside Israel but in America he got interviewed by dr. Phil earlier this yeah mom and I think then Yahoo is set to come to the US this week actually yeah so that'll be very interesting also to see what what he uses that platform to do because i don't i i can't imagine anything positive is going to come from that did we talk about the netanyahu dr phil interview it's so it's such a weird fever dream like it's so strange i mean i knew he did it
Starting point is 00:33:40 and i was just like no i don't know no i didn't i didn't actually see it but i mean i read about it and it just like the way dr phil just was like hi i'm gonna agree with everything you say that's the that'll be the tone of this interview the interview drew widespread condemnation in israel where netanyahu's been avoiding interviews with israeli press for years but was happy to sit down with oprah's uh well because this is all because he's more he knows that he needs the he needs the approval of audiences in the united states more than anything right because if the sentiment goes to i mean it's already gone south but if it becomes untenable for congress and and the white house to keep supporting this that's the issue and i think
Starting point is 00:34:25 that's why he's coming to the to congress too because he's trying to shore up support for this just fucking diabolical shit that's happening yeah um in his opening remarks with of that interview dr phil referred to palestinians as occupying gaza and asked whether Palestinians at large should be punished. That's who Dr. Phil is these days. I didn't realize he had gone full right-wing fascist. There's always the leanings. He's just a terrible fucking guy
Starting point is 00:35:00 and not even really the kind of doctor he tries to present himself as. It's all there folks he also so that was last month this uh this weekend he was trending for interviewing trump and claiming that this interview was like too hot for tv and it had been banned from tiktok just because trump's in it and they're so scared of trump um which would be easier to believe promo video yeah the promo video you know it would be easier to believe promo video yeah yeah the promo video you know it'd be easier to believe it was like too hot for tiktok if a there
Starting point is 00:35:30 wasn't already tons of trump content on tiktok including trump's new tiktok account and if the promo wasn't literally on dr phil's tiktok like as we're saying this right now yeah i mean yeah he he was even just like he said he was like i he was basically agreeing with trump that like that the his felony convictions were like bullshit it was like a political hit yeah no straight up he's like gone get out of here right like far right yeah yeah i mean it makes sense that the regressive shit that he says anyway that he presents his fucking advice or even though the manner in which which he has people on just to kind of make their lives worse. So yeah, expect nothing less from Mr. Phil McGraw.
Starting point is 00:36:14 Mr. Phil. Mr. Phil. One weird thing about the interview. I mean, the whole thing was unhinged. Trump really not looking great these days, was spent part of the time just being like... Dr. Phil was like,
Starting point is 00:36:31 revenge and retribution are unhealthy for the country. Donald doesn't have to get even. Trump was like, revenge does take time. I will say that. Sometimes revenge can be justified, Phil. I have to be honest. Sometimes it can. i have to be honest sometimes i can't feel it can be it can be i agree i believe revenge is a very healthy attitude to have thing i said two seconds ago i disagree with that actually i disagree i agree
Starting point is 00:36:57 with you and i believe you are a very distinguished gentleman yeah his hair is he like balding more? I mean, I know he's doing comb overs and shit, but at least the front that he used to have coiffed, it's looking fuzzy. You know what I mean? It doesn't have the definition it used to. It looks like someone put a Gaussian blur to use a Photoshop term on the top part of his
Starting point is 00:37:20 head and his sloping shoulders. God, man. What a fucking sad sad i saw some political cartoon recently of just like just like these two old men on a debate stage and just like sort of you know highlighting how old everyone is or trump's in a jumpsuit like it felt like an orange jumpsuit and like yeah what a this is this is what the two-party system is offering people This is what the two-party system is offering people. The weird thing that kept happening, Trump saying wildly offensive, inaccurate shit, but every time he would call psychiatric institutions or psychiatric facilities mental institutions, they would put a chyron with like a little uh asterisk saying psychiatric facility so it's like getting at the central lie of dr phil's world which is like no this guy you
Starting point is 00:38:13 can trust him he's all about psychiatry uh and the you know he's gonna he's gonna fact check he's gonna fact check this president when he calls it a mental institution but this is in a sentence where he says why would someone want to open borders where they're coming in from jails prisons they're coming from mental institutions uh that gets an asterisk they're terrorists coming in by the thousands uh no asterisks for that okay okay yeah that one's good that one's facts yeah that needs no clarification at all. Yeah. I believe that too. And I think that Joe Biden can stop this Robespierre-esque reign of terror on you if he really wanted to.
Starting point is 00:38:54 He said some shit like that about how Democrats could stop it. Wow. It's the fucking, it's the, whatever, dude. Glad you had some, you know, what's that thing uh feedback loop a bubble what are we looking at echo chamber boros yeah yeah yeah echo chamber cope time for you guys trump also in the news over the weekend uh hate to have two trump stories on here but everybody's talking about his rant from a rally in Vegas in which he spent several minutes
Starting point is 00:39:26 describing how he'd rather die by electrocution than risk being eaten by a shark if he were in a sinking boat with a tremendously powerful battery. You're not experiencing deja vu. This same rant happened back in October, but I guess people kind of missed it then. He always, anything that's electric he always equates with becoming electrocuted yeah like how do you do it if it's in if it's rain how
Starting point is 00:39:53 do they make sure just shut up but anyway here's here he is at this like rally that was so hot they had like paramedics on standby because they wanted to make sure people uh didn't succumb to the heat. But anyway, here he is screaming about batteries and shit. So I said, let me ask you a question. And he said, nobody ever asked this question. And it must be because of MIT, my relationship to MIT. Very smart.
Starting point is 00:40:21 He goes, I said, what would happen if the boat sank from its weight? And you're in the boat and you have the boat sank from its weight yeah it's a he he's so smart that he doesn't understand boats buoyancy like this motherfucker does not trust a cruise it's not a boat if it doesn't fucking float on its own just so you know and by definition that would just be detritus yeah ocean at the bottom of the sea and he was going this tremendously powerful battery and the battery is now underwater and there's a shark that's approximately 10 yards over there approximately by the way a lot of shark attacks lately did you notice that a lot of shark i look at the hassle in the background yeah yeah i heard that i'm from a landlocked state but i know about the shark
Starting point is 00:41:05 attacks yeah well they weren't really that angry they bit off the young lady's leg because of the fact that they were they were not hungry but they misunderstood what who she was these people are great wait what so the sharks he's he's talking about scientists who say that like people who get attacked by sharks are like you know it's because it's mistaken yeah it's a mistake i get it generally do not hunt human but i love the his the colloquial manner in which he's like i was kicking it with those sharks yeah and they bit her not because they were hungry they told me this because it's real folks he said there's no problem with sharks they They just didn't really understand.
Starting point is 00:41:47 A young woman swimming now really got decimated and other people, too. A lot of shark addicts. So there's a shark 10 yards away from the boat, 10 yards or here. Do I get electrocuted? If the boat is sinking, water goes over the battery, the boat is sinking. Do I stay on top of the boat and get electrocuted?
Starting point is 00:42:04 Or do I jump over by the shark and and get electrocuted or do i jump over by the shark and not get electrocuted because i will tell you he didn't know the answer he said you know nobody's ever asked me that question i said i think it's a good question i think there's a lot of electric current coming through that water but you know what i do if there was a shark or you get electrocuted i'll take electrocution every single time there's there's like one guy behind him being like yep yeah he's speaking my language got to man think about this all the time do it with my prayer group we talk about this all the time at bible study do not want to get have my whole shit bit
Starting point is 00:42:36 by a fucking shark man first of all objectively the wrong answer uh because get your shit bit get your shit bit man that's fucking amazing that's the highest way that a human can go out uh the highest form of humanity do you think trump like if you if he was in a in a pool and you brought over like a loose car battery right and you brought it over the pool like no yeah don't don't kill me don't kill me don't kill me but i feel like does that does that even work like would you get i don't think batteries do that like no i mean like the i'd imagine like a covered battery this is just so this is a good question and that's why it's a good question and that's why i like how he's like and the and he said nobody's ever asked me that.
Starting point is 00:43:25 Right. And that's how I know it. So I thought I said it was a good question. Maybe it was so fucking ignorant. The guy had never heard such stupidity in his life and it was like being polite and being like, I've never heard that one before. Like if you watch conk on earth, you know,
Starting point is 00:43:39 when she says the wild shit to these experts and they're like, they're trying to be polite. They're like, well, that is an interesting theory yeah I've never heard that one yeah exactly that's right but yeah this is this is a recurring question
Starting point is 00:43:52 this is like I guess he claimed like it was so hot that the prompters went down and this is just like what his brain goes to he's like sharks are scary right apparently stormy daniels claims that he said that he hopes all the sharks die, which he has basically admitted to.
Starting point is 00:44:10 They were saying the other night, the sharks, they were saying, sharks, we have to protect them. I said, wait a minute, wait. They actually want to remove all the seals in order to save the shark. What? I said, wait, don't you have that the other way around? Damn. Damn. what i said wait don't you have that the other way around um damn damn so i mean that's deep that's deep yeah yeah there's even a thing about oh that's right remember like elaine chow uh mitch mcconnell's wife her sister died in a tesla yeah earlier this year but he went into the water
Starting point is 00:44:42 executive yeah went into the water and was not electrocuted and then these articles came up and they're like why you won't die in an EV if it goes in the water but again Trump doesn't need to get that. She died from drowning because the Tesla doors don't open when they get
Starting point is 00:45:00 wet. That's not his concern. That's the problem. His concern is batteries. Brian the editor is pointing out that a marine battery uh kind of designed to be around water it turns out uh we'll just short out and lose charge if all right that's just like your opinion that's just like your opinion all right let's uh let's take a quick break because i actually don't trust him and i want to do some research. I want to do some additional research on this. Do some back of the napkin math real quick.
Starting point is 00:45:30 But we'll be right back. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers
Starting point is 00:46:09 have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital
Starting point is 00:46:25 revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan
Starting point is 00:47:10 Sanner. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it like you miss 100% of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports,
Starting point is 00:47:44 where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark vs. Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them boys. I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black.
Starting point is 00:48:13 I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:48:34 or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. And we're back. We're back we're back and yeah uh it turns out yeah get it getting electrocuted by a battery in the ocean would suck and getting eaten by a shark would be cool i just did research on my notes here just do research in my mind yeah and i just thought it over yeah i'd still rather get my ship take the electrocution every time. All right. In the world of popular culture and tech, people are rage quitting Adobe over AI fears. So apparently some people,
Starting point is 00:49:18 instead of just moving, scrolling down until you get to the box to check, to just get the text out of your way, when you're like... Oh, like a terms of service of your way when you're like a terms of service yeah when you're doing in terms of service apparently like you can read that text and there's like stuff in there all right why what does it say well so the people who did the reading must be like archaeologists or something yeah Yeah, for sure. They excavated this message. There's apparently stuff in the latest Adobe update about how they can access your content through both manual and automated methods,
Starting point is 00:49:54 such as for content slash review. And also mentioned that they could use machine learning in order to improve our services and software. All of which had people somewhat concerned that Adobe would be using private customer data to help train their AI.
Starting point is 00:50:13 Because that's exactly what it seems like their terms of service are making it possible for them to do. Everyone's workspace is now a node to feed our machine learning machine learning algorithm and we'll be using your finger clicks as a battery to power our ai um but they so they later clarified that this was not the case it's merely for moderating illegal content and
Starting point is 00:50:40 actually existed in the previous terms of service. They even mentioned machine learning in previous years, but that doesn't explain the part of the terms of service where they say that they have a worldwide royalty-free license to reproduce your content. That's a little bit more. That feels like a lot. That feels pretty specific. You're collaborating with Adobe now?
Starting point is 00:51:03 Being like, oh yeah, man, that's ours too. You know what I mean? Wow. The company is currently marketing their Firefly AI model as a means for people with limited creative experience to quickly produce content at scale. You become part of our
Starting point is 00:51:20 global creative hive mind where we use your work to fuel the work of lesser artists right essentially it's like it's like uh like how remember did you ever see like exit through the gift shop and they were showing like mr brainwash that dude yeah my favorite artist yeah yeah i got mr brainwash back here that guy i would also describe limited creative experience like someone goes i want that put that there but like with this style and i think that's what they're kind of saying is like you can just mr brainwash some shit now you're like i want simpson
Starting point is 00:51:53 to look like david la chapelle photography but uh in medieval times go we got an lce here a uh limited creative experience uh oh hell yeah hell yeah how do we make people creative at scale that's always that is like the number one question that people love to say behind the doors closed doors of tech companies um so firefly was trained on public domain material that happened to include ai images from one of their competitors mid-journey. So it's just like one big circle jerk of AI bullshit. So it makes sense that they would try to be getting original work from the people who are using their software, right? They need,
Starting point is 00:52:39 AI needs inputs that aren't just like public domain. I, God, it's like like it's just it's painful to watch this like insistence on the ai shit and god's just all the pushback yeah i know i know i'm waiting for like this person to like ascend who like is the limited creative experience person who just like on like harnessed ai to be like i actually use that to create these like fantastic images i wrote this script um i've already got an egot all right because i merged one with the ai but i'm i don't know how close we are to that and when you look at like the careers of a lot of the tech ceo types they're really you know they they like get to know coding well enough but they're not like actually talented
Starting point is 00:53:27 coders and then they just like appropriate other people's work so it feels like this is a technology that is designed to do the thing that they value the most which is you know taking other people's work and making it make them money. How do I make you make money for me without paying you? That is the question that I'm going to address in my TED Talk. Movies, baby. We're always rooting for the
Starting point is 00:53:57 movies at the box office so that they continue to be a thing. I saw a movie, but it was not this one. You saw a movie? I saw a movie this weekend, yeah. What'd you see? I saw Babes. Babes.
Starting point is 00:54:10 Alana Glazer, Michelle Buteau film. Oh, okay. Yeah, about best friends going through the arc of becoming parents. Oh. It was a nice one. Just easy, sub two hours, great film. Just in and out, baby. It wasn't the best best script i would say but michelle boutot and ilana glaze are just
Starting point is 00:54:31 so naturally funny that great the dialogue you know how like you see those movies you're like i don't know if it were two other people i don't know if that movie would have been good yeah like so much of it was carried by their charisma um but i saw dude there are people fucking breaking the doors down to go see bad boys and imax yeah so uh speaking of movies that wouldn't be as good with other two people um the bad boys the bad boys as i call them uh stormed the box office came through above expectations people were thinking it would open in the 40s and it actually did 56 million dollars over the weekend and this is i don't know it's will smith's first theatrical post-slap movie and it's also just a franchise that people fucking love yeah bad boys people love will smith and martin lawrence together
Starting point is 00:55:25 i'm glad that is like a truth now you know like at first it's like i don't know we'll see how this does yeah and then it did well i'm like okay we're still in a country where bad boys still captures the hearts and minds of americans yeah but it's i mean j our writer, was pointing out that when you look at the two bombs from last month, they were Garfield about Chris Pratt. Garfield's a white guy in that version of things. I thought Garfield was canonically black. Are you serious? No. Could you imagine?
Starting point is 00:56:08 No, no, no, man. Like Jim Davis is like, no, man. Garfield is a boy. Yeah, man. He's a Nubian god, man. Stuck in a cat's body. Furiosa, set in a world that critics have previously called eerily white. And then, yeah, like it's just like bad boys for life was one of
Starting point is 00:56:29 the top grossing movies of the year in 2020 obviously the pandemic had something to do with that but it just reminds me of the sony hack email where the guy argues against a denzel movie because other people are racist and you know they're not gonna respond well to a denzel action franchise and then that movie fucking killed and the whole franchise does incredibly well i'm just glad that the a-cab sentiment didn't reach bad boys right you know a-cab does not include bad boys in this in this in this in just this weekend yeah a-cab does not include bad boys in this in this in this this weekend yeah a cab does not include bad boys does not include mike lowry okay that's right a cababa no a cab does not include all cops are bad boys yes um that's what you have to do this this last weekend all cops were bad boys
Starting point is 00:57:21 okay they had a pass while bad boys in theaters do you think cops like bad boys. Okay. They had a pass while bad boys in theaters. Do you think cops like bad boys? I don't know. That's a great question. They watching like just sick ass cop film. That's a great question that we'll be covering on tomorrow's episode when we have a cop on. Yeah. Just to talk about cool shit to coolest stuff you can do as a cop. Tune in for that expert episode.
Starting point is 00:57:40 And finally, Julia Louise Dreyfuss has pushed back on some of Jerry Seinfeld's bullshit. Seinfeld cast has been taking some very public L's. Seinfeld's debacle-filled press tour for Unfrosted where he went on Barry Weiss's podcast
Starting point is 00:58:00 and was like, I miss the days when you could be a real man. Michael Richards' recent and was like i miss the days when you could be a real man yeah and michael richards recent promotion efforts for his memoir which found him going on the jesse waters show killing it framer dude just go michael richards i'm sorry bro you you don't know how to you don't know there's so many of these fucking celebrities that think like re quote unquote rehabbing your career is just to like self-exile and be out of the headlines and then hoping that the collective memory has shifted by the time
Starting point is 00:58:36 it's it's like the moment arises for you to sell something again and be like they've maybe forgot and be like hey man remember me from like that video of like 20 i'm back and i'm okay right did i do anything on myself no nope nope but hopefully i mean it's been a long time so you guys forgive me um like you know if he gave a fuck he would have tried to better himself or at least you know like even the the the a-list celebrities know their publishers like man i'm sorry you're gonna have to to pose with some people of color after this. Right. Like, you're going to have to go do some charity work. But maybe Michael Richards did that.
Starting point is 00:59:10 We just fucking ignored it. But sorry, dude. Yeah. Just sit down. Collect your fucking royalties. Oh, go on, Jesse Waters. God bless. But Julia Louise Dreyfuss recently was interviewed by the New York Times and was specifically asked about her former co-star's opinion that political correctness is somehow killing comedy. It's killing it! It's killing it! You can't even post with
Starting point is 00:59:32 IDF soldiers and say they're heroes! What happened? And she said, and this is, I don't know what she's talking about, but she said that she thinks that political correctness insofar as it equates to tolerance is obviously fantastic uh whoa what i never considered that and now i'm starting to soften on my stance about the pc culture to have an antenna about sensitivities is not a bad thing it doesn't mean that all comedy goes out the window as a result but what if all your jokes are about talking about people's appearances or abilities then what it's the only way she also said it's a red flag when people complain about political correctness because that sometimes means something else i think always means something else usually point it's leading in a very specific direction yeah shout out elaine bennis for just making that very the real basic observation you know what i mean but like yeah when exactly when people start
Starting point is 01:00:34 clamoring the fucking pc culture yeah you're telling on yourself you're telling on yourself and that was like that seinfeld was complaining about pc culture and like kids in on college campuses being too woke you know 15 years ago i feel like it was a long time ago where he had his rant about how college students didn't laugh at his gay french king joke i didn't like it and then they said they said i was a child groomer because i dated a 17-year-old when I was 35. Jesus. I love how after that shit with the PC culture, I felt like everyone on the internet was determined to bring that back as people should, remind people.
Starting point is 01:01:17 It's like, is this you, Jerry Seinfeld, with the 17-year-old person you were dating? I was a real man. Oh, God. Oh God. All right. Those are some of the things that are trending on this Monday morning. We are back tomorrow with a whole last episode of the show. Yeah. Until then,
Starting point is 01:01:36 be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get your vaccines. Get your flu shots. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to y'all tomorrow. Bye. Peace.
Starting point is 01:01:54 I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult.
