Starting point is 00:00:00 In California during the summer of 1975, within the span of 17 days and less than 90 miles, two women did something no other woman had done before, try to assassinate the President of the United States. One was the protege of Charles Manson. 26-year-old Lynette Fromm, nickname Squeaky. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer,

Do it. Hello, the internet, and welcome to season 163, episode 3 of Dirt Daily Zeitgeist, a production of iHeartRadio. This is a podcast where we take a deep dive into America's shared consciousness.
Starting point is 00:02:28 It's Wednesday, December 9th, 2020. 42 days until January 20th. My name is Jack O'Brien, a.k.a. Well, it's a marvelous night for a concert. I'm a star who's a god in your eyes. A fantabulous night to get COVID. Watching the ramblings of two older guys. And all the geezers are sneezing and coughing on the boomers stacked in the front row.
Starting point is 00:03:03 But baby, that's COVID. It was invented to enslave. Even though I'm Irish, white, and rich. D-D-D. Super rich.
Starting point is 00:03:18 Can I just spread some COVID germs with you, my fans. That is courtesy of Matt Dick. At Matt Dick, though. And I'm thrilled to be joined, as always, by my co-host, Mr. Miles Gray! Oh, Grandma got infected by the virus. Sitting in the church pew Christmas Eve.
Starting point is 00:03:41 Some may say there's no such thing as COVID. But as for me and Grandpa, we believe. And that's from Jimmins on the Discord. I think your partner put it in there and said, okay, my husband is
Starting point is 00:03:58 a registered nurse and was just singing this in their head all day. I think this could work as an AKA. So that is the genesis of that one. I'm glad it stayed in his head and he i think this could work as an aka so that is the genesis of that one i'm glad it stayed in his head and he wasn't saying that shit like out loud as he was yeah that would be from terrible through the icu like excuse me nothing nothing nothing i was just hmm i just as i was going through that uh extended that lp of a of mine. It was just realizing how we kick this show off with what is the closest the show gets to a morning zoo.
Starting point is 00:04:32 It's just like one of the morning zoo song parody people can't sing. That's the innovation that we've brought to it. Anyways, we are thrilled to be joined in our third seat by the hilarious and talented Connor Del Rio! Oh!
Starting point is 00:04:55 Con Air. Con Air. The con man. C-Con. Con job. Oh, yeah. Con dancers. Eater of worlds right here, baby. Oh, yeah. Welcome to the show, man. Hey, thank you. I wouldn't say you guys can't sing at all.
Starting point is 00:05:12 I don't know. See? Unequivocally. I was into it. There were things that resembled notes for both of us. Connor, what's new with you, man? what what's happening how are you making out in these troubled times of ours uh you know i'm making out pretty good i'm not making out i'm quite lonely but yeah i've uh uh i mean i'm surrounded by towels right now in a closet
Starting point is 00:05:39 and not just for this recording just in general daily temple you said yeah this is my temple spiritually mentally you're surrounded by towels in a closet just metaphorically yeah uh most stuff baby hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy always have a towel uh i so in march when things like first i think it was march right we can all remember back in march feels like yeah yeah when things first started getting a little crazy. I actually, so I was supposed to move into this new apartment on April 1st in Los Angeles. And about a week before moving in, I get, uh,
Starting point is 00:06:17 a message from my friend saying, Hey, uh, my roommate actually decided he's not going to move out anymore. And I was like, ah, come screw. Like that's come on, man. You can't do that a week before I'm like, my roommate at my current apartment already found a new roommate for the apartment. Like I got nowhere to go. So I called my buddy and I was like, hey, could I just, you know, crash at your place for a couple of weeks or a month and I'll, you know, I'll pay for your AC bill or whatever. I'll pay for half your rent just until I find a place. He was like, yeah, no problem. And then two weeks into staying there, Newsom shuts down the state. Right. And then all of a sudden everything starts shutting down.
Starting point is 00:06:54 Yeah. And the guy who screwed me over, I'm actually like, hey, thanks. You know, I didn't have to sign a year lease. I wasn't stuck in a lease like a lot of people have been, unfortunately. And and so then I to go to – I called my aunt and uncle who live out in Bumblefuck, New Hampshire. I mean their street name – well, I shouldn't give their address. I mean, okay. I'm sorry. Their zip code and last name is – Their zip code and social – I'll start with their social security.
Starting point is 00:07:23 They live in bumblefuck new hampshire and i was like well that's probably the better place to be right now with everything going on just around nobody and they also had my dog because when i was filming um the movie half brothers uh last year it was in new mexico for three months and i didn't want to put them in boarding and they love dogs and so i brought them there there to New Hampshire. And so I hung out with them for what I thought was going to be like a month. I think we all were like, oh, this will be a month. And then this Corona thing will be gone. And we all didn't know what we were talking about.
Starting point is 00:07:56 We're all confused. I think a lot of us still are. But yeah, I hung out in New Hampshire for three months. And then I'm from Chicago, born and raised in Chicago, so I came to Chicago after that, and I've been in Chicago since June. Just kind of all my family and closest friends are still in this city. So this is where I've been, hunkered down and trying to find the positives in things. Trying to find the positives in things. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:28 You're getting a real sampling of the different ways that the nation, different parts of the nation shut down, deal with quarantine. Any insight to share? How's Chicago doing in particular? Chicago's doing well. In New Hampshire, my aunt and uncle, they're scientists. They're all for mask wearing and all that stuff. And when I would have my mask on everywhere I'd go, I'd get a lot of dirty looks and things at gas stations, wherever I was. And then in Chicago, it's, you know, obviously completely flipped.
Starting point is 00:08:56 People had been really smart about it here. They supported it. I also got here in the beautiful summer. So it was nice because people – Chicago in the summer. Oh, my gosh, yeah. The best. One of the best here in the beautiful summer so it was it was nice because people oh my gosh yeah the best one of the best cities in the world you could to have a great summer you have to have an awful winter uh yeah people don't people don't take it for granted here but so it was kind of nice man honestly um it was really beautiful and people were outside i was riding my bike every day
Starting point is 00:09:21 so it wasn't it wasn't sad. And cases were okay. And I have friends who work in hospitals, and they were always updating me saying, no, it's fine. It's not bad at all. In March, it was really bad. The people who don't like to believe in this stuff just talk to the people. Those are the people I trust the most, the ones who are actually there dealing with this. And it was hell for them. Rarely the healthcare workers who are anti-maskers yeah it blows my mind we were recently talking about
Starting point is 00:09:51 how uh the nation has turned its lonely eyes to uh you as a person in chicago uh all the all the top shows in america are uh chicago fire chicago med Chicago, I don't know, PD, Chicago Bulls. Yeah, you saw that documentary over the summer. It's everything Chicago. Chicago's having a moan. Yeah, the Chicago Wednesdays on NBC or something.
Starting point is 00:10:18 I think they have a whole night dedicated to it. I don't watch them. You live it, man. You live it. We watch it to see how you're living how you get down thank you thank you uh all right connor we're gonna get to know you a little bit better in a moment first we're gonna tell our listeners a few of the things we're talking about uh we're gonna check in with uh the florida whistleblower uh who we checked in with early on in the pandemic when she was fired
Starting point is 00:10:48 for building out data that was too responsive to the facts. Her house was just raided like a dissident in a post-apocalyptic movie. We'll talk about that and how CBS News is covering that. Mainstream media nailing it
Starting point is 00:11:04 once again. We're're gonna just do some covid stuff uh william shakespeare got vaxxed in the uk so we'll talk about that um and how confidence in the vaccine is increasing uh we'll talk about whether we're allowed to call this damn thing a coup uh despite the fact that it uh seems to be more slapstick comedy. There's been some interesting articles about why it's still more dangerous than you would think based on the comedy of it all. We'll talk about the fact that the former head of Israel's NASA, basically the NASA equivalent in Israel,
Starting point is 00:11:44 says aliens are already here, kicking it with us, no big deal. But before we get to any of that, Connor, what is something from your search history that's revealing about who you are? God, all right. You know, I was like, should I remove this? But I'm just going to go for it. The last thing was, if you fell from a high building on top of a person, would you live? Huh. Okay. Wait, what? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:12:12 So if you fell from a high building on top of a person, would you live? But I couldn't word it in the way I was looking for. What I wanted to find was if you fell with a person, let's say you fell with a person and then you kind of were holding to them on top. Right. If they hit the ground, would the inertia still kill you as well? That's more my question, but I couldn't find the answer. Is the person Batman? Because Dark Knight, I think, answers that
Starting point is 00:12:34 when Rachel and Batman fall from... Right. The person's not Batman. Yeah. I think you both die then. You both die? Yeah, unless they're really uh you know large and squishy i would imagine like a person made of mattresses yeah yeah i guess that's the only way
Starting point is 00:12:56 it would have to be the only way you survive some sentient mattress some manner of beached whale i feel like you'd be okay oh like one of those carcasses that explode on the beach from all the gas buildup inside the corpse back in my crack days we did a like action movie myth busting article that i think we we were specifically focused on the idea of jumping off of a building into a dumpster because that seems to be the standard fall breaking yeah or awnings right awnings are good awnings it seems too obvious that you would just tear through and you know create modern art with a doorman and your own insides but uh but even the even the um the trash dumpster it seemed like people were saying that if it's beyond i think it was it was a surprisingly low number of stories that it's just deadly it
Starting point is 00:13:56 doesn't matter you're gonna unless there's something specifically engineered in there to uh slowly break your fall you're you're gonna uh get turned into pudding what if you're holding an umbrella right well that's obviously as you descend yeah exactly it's it's a prettier fall it's a prettier fall take that science i think but also i think the dumpster i mean you have to like swish your body has to swish that dumpster i mean it has to be perfect you catch the heel of the rim your spinal explode yeah you have to before you jump off you have to say lebron and then hopefully switch into that thing because otherwise and hold up your gooseneck shooting hand like you're waiting for it to go in still you're like
Starting point is 00:14:39 all right so you die so what's your yeah i would say okay yeah yeah wait what brought on that search exactly like what were you really were you having a discussion or you just be like god this dream may be real no i was writing something i i want to say i was writing something and trying to figure out if that would you wanted to honor the science yeah i wanted to honor the science yeah i mean i've also like when i would take elevators i don't know if everybody thinks this way but you know jump right before you hit right before you hit do you jump right before you hit yeah and you like do it on your side you know you go huh yeah but i think the inertia still takes you yeah it still takes you down i think so because your jump is relative to the ground so just like you're hitting the ground at the same speed that right you were
Starting point is 00:15:32 traveling when you jumped on a on a like stationary i think about this shit all the time man i know i get that shit came out quick and smooth yeah the other thing I think about is like if you jump off of a building like running as fast as you can
Starting point is 00:15:51 like how far out can you make it um because yeah that's just a weird thing not that far
Starting point is 00:15:58 yeah not that far not that far not that far um anyways uh freaking elevators fucking elevators man you gotta watch out for those things you gotta watch out uh that otis guy is always trying to take you out uh what is something uh that you think is underrated uh something i think is underrated is uh the
Starting point is 00:16:20 leftovers series this television series i for some reason, it just went, nobody watched it, but that was like, that's probably, at least in my opinion, and I think a lot of critics and other people, I think it's like one of the greatest written shows of all time. I just talked to somebody last week who was just swearing up and down. I think, Jack, you first started talking about it when we started watching watchmen i think because you were like yo lindelof in the leftovers
Starting point is 00:16:49 is was like fire and cd and i think i my conception was season two was really good season one is whatever season two is like unbelievable and someone else came at me with the same things like you gotta fuck with it man man. Season two and three, it's next level. Yeah. Damn. It was interesting on the Watchmen front because he basically started with season two of, like season one of Leftovers is the book.
Starting point is 00:17:15 And then season two, they keep going. And he gets to write what happens after the book. All his own shit, right? Yeah, and that's when it gets really, really good. And somen he was just like let's just start here that usually most of the time it's the opposite right like once people lose the source material then all of a sudden it downgrades yeah yeah the leftovers uh just what your friend said i mean it's a heavy show it's a harsh show and i could see why a lot of people maybe couldn't get in tune with it uh but that second season is like the writing is just like a sweater that's been thread together i mean it's like i
Starting point is 00:17:52 see that's i love writing like that i think it makes sense because i was a stupid lost fan boy like up until season three or four and then like it completely i was like oh i don't like it this much uh but i will stick around to be upset well i mean especially that last season was straight disrespect um but yeah and i think then but like watching watchmen as well where you go seemingly from like this is all chaos and then you're like oh my god it was the fucking pieces i was eating the puzzle pieces the whole time i didn't know i just wanted one of my favorite ways of enjoying long-form TV content. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:29 It's also one of those places where we got the duo. We gave J.J. Abrams all the credit, and then Lindelof was back there actually turning out to be the dude who, I don't know, I guess they're both talented in their own ways but i feel like when when lost first hit people were like abrams he's gonna uh be the future he's the next spielberg and then i feel like what about carton cuse bro they all forget about that guy on last two i'm just thinking of the names that like i was like i only remember jj.J. Abrams. Yeah. Yeah, Lindelof is the man, though.
Starting point is 00:19:08 I think he's one of the best showrunners and creators on TV right now. He's awesome. I love the pilot of The Leftovers is one of my favorite pilots of any show. Then the rest of season one wasn't crazy about and didn't really watch it beyond a certain point. But season two is incredible and then for some reason i never watched season three uh so i gotta do that it's great it's great
Starting point is 00:19:30 season two is definitely like the pinnacle i think but uh but season three is wonderful i think it has a perfect ending and just great acting great writing great cinematography great music great everything it's just great great great yeah uh what is something you think is overrated coconut water coconut everything what is up what is up come on man i think i honestly i think coconut water tastes like like severed decaying feet sitting in a swamp filled with trash and like zombie decomposed beavers swimming around in it like i don't understand the love for coconut water especially in los angeles that is like it's holy there yeah i the coconut water a coke i just don't like coconut everything the aftertaste is awful it's awful some coconut waters i've liked because the ones that kind of taste good to me
Starting point is 00:20:25 are the ones that kind of taste like old cornflake milk. Like there's like a feeling of old cereal milk to it. Yeah, absolutely. It's the kind of coconut water I drink, and I'm like, oh, this shit kind of tastes like an old bowl of cereal. And then I'm like, why did I pay five bucks for this? I don't need this shit. I fuck with it.
Starting point is 00:20:43 Like, I really like it. I think it's very refreshing and even i admit that it tastes like bad breath uh a lot of the time like when it's when it's warm it just feels like the inside of a mouth that hasn't been brushed in days oh so you like kissing in the morning yeah yeah i was gonna say you're yeah kisser that's the flavor of coconut yeah the the oil i like the oil you know good for my dog's coat my skin uh you know those things i think are undeniable uh but yeah the water i i just remember too like you know what was maybe eight years ago is when it was like it was start it was percolating like the coconut water just trend and to the point like where
Starting point is 00:21:26 everyone in la like it almost felt obligatory that you went to some at least one event that was sponsored by a coconut water company uh and now i feel like we're i think i don't know like what i don't know what happened i don't know who this i don't know as many hardcore coconut water people as i used to or it's just normalized now right right it's just they just call it water i guess in defense of uh i i am a big coconut head from the day i was uh a child i remember like still fucking with like the coconut candies and a coconut or in a like oh i like box chocolate love mounds love almond joy um and coconut water uh i i there there's this anecdote that i think is true that um during world war ii when there
Starting point is 00:22:18 was a shortage of blood plasma they would use coconut water because it's identical to human blood plasma and can be safely injected directly into the bloodstream according to body ecology uh so don't do that uh needlessly but that's why i when i drink it i i have the feeling of like that and it's probably mostly mental but i have the feeling like ah this is going directly into the old veins making new blood that's like minimal cannibalism
Starting point is 00:22:53 the way you phrase that you're just drinking human when you can't drink human blood is what I'm saying you gotta go with well ever since you and Peter Thiel have been on the outs you're you've been thirst supply for that blood yeah yeah god yeah oh yeah i mean like lacroix uh whenever i see somebody who has lacroix coconut i'm just like i'm not a hard sell that yeah i mean i like like
Starting point is 00:23:19 coconut ice cold is the only way to i have a friend shout out nurse britney who loves coconut lacroix drinks the shit i've seen her drink at room temperature and i'm like oh my god you might as well just drink suntan lotion that smells like coconut i mean it's always available that flavor is always available in the aisles when you look at lacroix i'm just saying it's the one that's always there yeah the one that's vaguely brown on the can, which is always an enticing flavor when you're reaching for a refreshing seltzer. Yeah, I don't fuck with coconut-flavored things. Just the real BLB. Just the real shit.
Starting point is 00:23:53 Oh, okay. I respect that. Except no imitation. That's right. I've always said that. All right, let's take a quick break. We'll be right back. Thank you for that introduction. I'm going to slip you a couple of 20s under the table for that. Emma Roberts. When it came into my email inbox, I was like,
Starting point is 00:24:27 okay, I know I'm going to love this so much that I don't even want to read it. Because if I can't be in it, I'm going to be bummed. And Colin Jost. You know, your wife was the first guest on Table for Two. It's come full circle. As long as I do better than her, I'm happy. Table for Two is a bit different from other interview shows. We sit down at a great restaurant
Starting point is 00:24:46 for a meal, maybe a glass of rosé, and the stories start flowing. Our second season is airing right now, so you can catch up on our conversations that are intimate, surprising, and often hilarious. Listen to Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi
Starting point is 00:25:02 on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts, separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago, when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman.
Starting point is 00:25:43 I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current, available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Daphne Caruana Galizia was a Maltese investigative journalist who, on October 16, 2017, was murdered. There are crooks everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate.
Starting point is 00:26:23 My name is Manuel Delia. I am one of the hosts of Crooks Everywhere, a podcast that unhurts the plot to murder a one-woman Wikileaks. Daphne exposed the culture of crime and corruption that were turning her beloved country into a mafia state. And she paid the ultimate price. Listen to Crooks Everywhere starting September 25th on the iHeartRadio app,
Starting point is 00:26:48 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do.
Starting point is 00:27:11 One session. 24 hours. BPM 110. 120. She's terrified. Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that?
Starting point is 00:27:24 You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:27:43 They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. So there was a news story uh yesterday morning that uh rebecca jones who we've checked in with before because she built that uh lit florida database or was in charge of
Starting point is 00:28:18 populating it was key instrumental in building out this flor Florida database early on in the pandemic that was just updating with data and like making contact tracing seemingly possible and then got fired because she was not like telling the party line of not nothing to see here so her house was just raided. The police came in with guns drawn to take her computers and phone because they think she hacked the system and sent an email to people encouraging other people to be whistleblowers. She claims it wasn't her, but regardless, it seems odd that they would come in with guns drawn and point them at her children yeah uh yes like two and eleven i think we're how old our kids are yeah um it just has a very like dissident in a post-apocalyptic movie uh vibe to it like where they're totally dealing with the people who and without any you know it's a it's a desantis joint this this is a desantis joint brought to you by the the artist the director ron desantis but it was weird because i was reading through the
Starting point is 00:29:40 coverage of this and cbs news took a a strongly skeptical view of rebecca jones they were like since her firing she has lit up social media with posts criticizing desantis and his state agencies for months she has tried to promote herself as a victim who was fired for telling the truth although there is no evidence that supports her claims which is just i think a good reminder that the mainstream media is in the business of like gaining access to people in power in exchange for you know favorable coverage and cozying up to the people in the know um and that their point of view is irrevocably uh war by, you know, and tilted in favor of the people with access and power. Just seemed really disgraceful that that was like their point of view going into this thing where a person who, you know, has a social media platform is going up against the fucking government and they're
Starting point is 00:30:46 pulling guns on her and her family right they're like yeah okay and they're like she's been hella thirsty on social media it's like what the fuck are you this the wild thing to me about her is to when they when they say there's no evidence that like you know this could be retribute or whatever they say there's no evidence that supports her claims that she was like a victim who was fired for telling the truth. I mean, I'm pretty sure she has documentation around the idea that they were saying we need the numbers to look a certain way, even if they don't. So we don't have to lock down. The official party line is that she was insubordinate. Like, it's like, what the fuck are you talking about?
Starting point is 00:31:24 She was fired for insubordination. And yeah it's like what the fuck are you talking about yeah she's fired for insubordination and yeah the the gun thing is so unnecessary like the police like sort of pushed back on the idea that they did draw guns cut to her video that shows them with guns in hand pointing it up the stairs and then yeah yeah the miami herald article was like there's no evidence from the video that says that uh authorities pointed weapons at anyone in jones's home what the fuck are you talking about so they were just like vaguely pointing them up the stairs where her and her kids were but see they they put in new audio that sounded like police were there and saying get your hands up whatever and really it was like a party season party sort of scene where they were like hey if you're in the building get
Starting point is 00:32:08 your guns up right they were kind of doing that thing and see that was a total deep fake video that they did on there but it's just it's all trash i mean the even like the way that system is set up i was reading that that whole covid like thing that she had set up that's used by the state they they use the same username and password for the entire thing so even if she was booted out like they didn't even change the information after like the it security is absolutely laughable uh but then they want to act like oh these people are hacking in or like using this information or whatever. It's like, this is all bull. Like it's such a clear cut case of harassment. Um, and I mean,
Starting point is 00:32:49 I don't know. I mean, we don't know if she left that message. It doesn't seem like that's the most effective way to get your point across. If you know, you're a data scientist, uh, but you know,
Starting point is 00:33:00 that's, that's where we're at right now. Um, then DeSantis has made his state like, like intentionally hostile to people who are either exposing the truth, standing for the truth or in opposition to any kind of discrimination. So this this this all seems on brand for the state. Yeah. Yeah. And it's terrifying. I mean, it's terrifying. You're right. It's on brand. But I just don't understand, like, if, okay, you want to get a cell phone, you want to get a computer. Why do you have to even start with the raid of the house?
Starting point is 00:33:32 Why does that have to be the start? Why can't you have a megaphone outside? Like, if you're going to do this, this little mafioso thing that they're pulling off, why not have everybody say, come outside. Everybody comes outside. You don't have to have your guns drawn especially since there's children they they if they know where she lives and they know all this information about her they know she has children they know what age they are you know they know everything about it tried to do and they said she ignored them the cops 20 minutes yeah the cops knocked on her door uh and she was like okay i'm gonna get arrested uh so i should get dressed and like you know because
Starting point is 00:34:07 these are covet times not everybody is like camera ready the second the cops decide to randomly uh make a house call so and during the rest ready in general yeah and then during those 20 minutes uh they took that as her you know the the police were picturing her in there barricaded with weapons instead of just like putting, you know, getting her hair ready for arrest or whatever the fuck. story about who DeSantis has put on his actual data analysis COVID team is a young man, not a young man, an old man
Starting point is 00:34:52 by the name of Kyle Lamb, a 40-year-old who is a sports blogger, spent several years writing about Ohio State University for various blogs. The Ohio State University? I apologize. That is my bad. I remember being so confused on
Starting point is 00:35:08 Monday Night Football. I'm like, why the fuck do they all have that energy for the university name? The Ohio State University. I get it. Does that go back to like a feud with OU or something? Where like Ohio University was like claiming they were
Starting point is 00:35:23 Ohio State. Anyways. Anyway, back to this. where like ohio university was like claiming they were ohio university the state anyways anyway back to this the cluster fucking yeah so kyle lamb has then recently gained a twitter following for doing the easiest thing to get yourself a twitter following and amplifying conspiracy theories about covet 19 uh including his belief that masks do not prevent the virus from spreading and that the pandemic might be part of a bio war. And DeSantis brought him on as a member of his team to replace, you know. I mean, yeah, these are all attempts at legitimizing this kind of outlandish talk of saying, well, this is my expert.
Starting point is 00:36:06 Okay. And I'm ordaining them as being on my panel as governor that now suddenly people be like, well, I don't know why they, if this guy's on the governor's panel, like maybe we do need to think about this whole bio war nonsense. It's fucked up like it's completely you know that that's why everyone's faith in or in science and medicine is like you know vacillating between like uh faith and like what the fuck's going on and it's his uh i feel like it's his it's desantis's way of just trying to throw as much you know um like garbage in the middle of the floor that people have to clean up before getting to him flood the you know flood the zone with shit is flood the zone with shit before they can blame me and take me out you know it's yeah that is a bad and that's something from his playbook
Starting point is 00:36:54 it's uh it's terrifying man it's so it's so awful like that's why i'll i will always i'll always go with the scientists i mean luckily you know luckily, you know, there's quite a few in my family. Shout out to my cousin Ellie at Stanford working at a lab. Wow. Making masks for people around the world out of old scuba masks. And, I mean, she's been working since March, man. One stop. My cousin Cameron growing weed.
Starting point is 00:37:22 Legally. We need that, too. We need that, too. But, yeah yeah that's uh i've heard he's uh converting some scuba masks as well is that true yeah he is uh he's got some dude to like the wildest dab rig you've ever seen yeah by the way there were some scholars in my family i did like two weeks of community college and was like no it's not for me and uh and left you know weeks of community college and was like, no, it's not for me. And, uh, and left, you know, all my community college students out there that will keep going, man. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:37:48 Get it, get it, get it, get it, get it. Uh, let's talk about, um, some ideas for police reform that are being put forward, uh, in California. There's a bill being discussed, uh, that is, uh, kind of incrementalist in the way that basically all of the ideas for police reform that are endorsed by the police tend to be. to have a bachelor's degree and be 25 years old just based on statistics about what police officers with those attributes how violent they are versus otherwise yeah the legislator who's putting it uh who's who wrote the bill uh is referring to like this study in 2010 that that basically says that college educated officers typically, typically, typically use less force often and fewer complaints filed against them. Now, OK, that's a good thing to identify that group of people. But this is, you know, like we're saying, this is incremental change when we know what the real issues are.
Starting point is 00:39:05 incremental change when we know what the real issues are uh but you know this isn't the issue here and like the reason this bill is coming out isn't because we have a problem with you know not enough cops who studied abroad in barcelona uh you know we have fucking real issues here this is an issue within policing that is anti-black anti-poor anti-fucking everything uh and they are protected by powerful unions uh that can keep any kind of real meaningful like legal repercussions from ever you know getting close to them as well as like the financial consequences uh via these like ridiculous retirement plans a lot of these people have where it's like dude you get fired and then you're fucking set like no matter what even if you straight up murder somebody twice.
Starting point is 00:39:56 And this is just, you know, these are the kinds of things that you'd wish the legislators were actually looking at, because this is a good way of a legislator being like, well, this is an improvement. Yes, that would be great, because right now you just need to be, I think, like 18 or have like 18 with an equivalent in a high school diploma to begin your training. And it can be, I think 20, if you're in the California highway patrol, but yes, this is, that's a good way to try and weed out other people, but it's really a disingenuous attempt at real reform. And we just need to look at how much money is going to these departments and actually just having this conversation about reinvesting in communities because the perception in law enforcement in this country is, well, people commit crime because they're black. Right. Rather than seeing the full picture of how black and brown Americans have been abandoned. And we're merely just branding this failure of governance as crime. You know, it's not all this's crime it's not we failed these people they have no recourse they're so desperate that they commit crime people commit crimes out of
Starting point is 00:40:50 desperation you know nine times out of ten there are some people who just do it for the jollies but let's be real like a lot of this is about survival like you deal drugs not because you get a kick out of dealing drugs you do it because that's the only employment available to you that has the kind of income that you're looking for unfortunately or things other things like that gang people don't want to be in gangs like this is all these are all you know fact these are all byproducts of this failure um and i just want to also point out that this study that the legislator uh is using to say like oh yeah look check this out uh like you know people who have been to france and college you know murder less uh it was done by the national police foundation which i just want to point out that they love community
Starting point is 00:41:32 policing like solutions and they love putting forward the broken window policing strategy which is totally fucked up and completely wrong and backwards and biased. So it's already like, you know, we have an imperfect thing drawing from an imperfect place trying to, you know, be presented as, you know, meaningful change. So it's just, I think, just, we will continue to see things like this that look good and are good, but I think are avoiding what all the outcries were from the public over this last year over what is necessary to change the relationship between the community and law
Starting point is 00:42:10 enforcement. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I, you know, I grew up in, in the city of Chicago, uh, what's Chicago public schools, uh, very diverse schools and all that. And I, I, I can't tell you enough. I mean, there are people who I've met and who I've known a little and they're like, oh, I'm becoming a cop. And in my head, I'm like, they're letting you become a cop. They're they're allowing. I'm like, I'm like, what? And so I don't it's like there's so much about character and personality that matters, I think, with becoming a cop that I don't know what kind of thing you could create to figure that out of how you get the best character and personality to become a cop because it's a humanity job. It's dealing with people.
Starting point is 00:42:52 It's having empathy for people. Like you need to have empathy for people. You need to want out there on the street it is i think you start that by just having like reinforcing the fucking rules uh so the ones who don't act with humanity in mind are quickly just booted the fuck out gone and it's made known to people it's like yo yo this isn't the place like if you want to fuck around and do that go to florida or whatever fucking other, you know,
Starting point is 00:43:26 police department. But I think for police departments, this whole idea of like, well, a couple of bad apples or whatever. It's like, well then toss out all the fucking bad apples then. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:43:35 Immediately. And then see what you're left with and then figure out what the real problem is. But they're like, there's no even sort of the energy for that isn't even there. So we get all these sort of like half measures that have the like on paper are police reforms but we are we are well and we are way past the time for these small things like those things should happen 60 years ago if you want to like start that little incremental process but now we're looking at the situation and we need, you know, we need to extinguish it. Yeah, 100%. 100%.
Starting point is 00:44:05 Yeah. I mean, the more you know about history, like that's, that seems to be something in communities where the, you know, official government policy is to deprive them of resources. And then their only interaction with the state, like that 10 year old who's riding by on his bike, his only interaction with the state is violent, racist police. Like it's,
Starting point is 00:44:44 it's not a problem that can be addressed through incremental change uh all right let's talk about the pandemic uh what's going on with the vaccines the uk started giving out the vaccines and we got to see people get william shakespeare yeah it would there's it's sick dude we're getting vaxxed so what what did they specifically choose someone named william shakespeare like for for the purposes of just like good good marketing they're like guys bill shakespeare is getting the vaccine y'all come on uk where you at he buys it it just you know it began with like some elderly people and yes there just happened to be this 80 year old man legal name william shakespeare uh who got vaccinated on tuesday and i think that's been
Starting point is 00:45:39 getting a lot of attention i think a just this story because like we're seeing like massive rollout of immunization programs happening and like that's i think a thing this story because like we're seeing like massive rollout of immunization programs happening. And like that's I think a thing that most people like, oh, fuck, hope on some level, please now soon. So because of that, they're getting a little more attention here. And then the story within this area that got the like the first rollout of vaccines in the UK, you got an old guy named Bill Shakespeare. The literally the first person or technically the person who first got it is a 90 year old this 90 year old woman but i think bill shakespeare is just getting the shine because of the name um in the in the difference in photos like the photo of i posted in the doc of like bill shakespeare he's very like stoic and he's like i'm
Starting point is 00:46:20 getting vaccinated and the woman who is actually the first person to get it, she looks like, God, fuck it all. Like, her energy is like, she's wearing a mask. She's got like a cheery Christmas shirt on, but her face is like, says, this is such a fucked up year, even though I'm getting vaccinated. I feel like her image really sums up like where people are, where it's like, yeah, this good thing thing's happening i guess but like i'm i'm fucked inside from the last nine months also such a perfect uh encapsulation of what we see with the the old white guy or just the white guy not wearing a mask uh he's just like why would i of course yeah no i Yeah. No, I don't know. But I'm vaccinated. Right. I'm about to be. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:08 I mean. It's nice to see this happening. Like, it's weird how I'm getting a secondary high. Yeah. Right. Yo, yo, the vaccine. Yo, they're getting it over there. But I don't know if, like, after hearing that Trump turned down, like, the opportunity to buy more vaccines from Pfizer. I'm like,
Starting point is 00:47:25 Oh fuck. It's not, that was over the summer before we knew it was like, Hey, things are promising. Let's buy some, let's buy some of these vaccines. And he was like,
Starting point is 00:47:35 nah, fuck that. Yeah. Well, I don't think it's fiscal restraint more than his is like, I don't know if I would give this shit. It's, it's,
Starting point is 00:47:42 it's not real, but yeah, this is, but seeing this happen uh i think should bring great joy to at least the people of the uk and then whenever the fuck it happens in the u.s there was a super producer and a sent around like a link to be like figure out your place in line for the covid vaccine in america like based on like the county you live in in your age and i'm it's it's gonna be a while before uh
Starting point is 00:48:06 i get to the top of that list yeah but you're right though it is nice it is that uh i i think it's that light at the end of the tunnel i think some people are starting to think that tunnel's like really short i'm like no we still got a ways to go yeah you know but there is one from darkness to light like yes exactly yeah exactly it's not like yo i can I can make out a tree in the tunnels mouth no no no it's a pinhole you press F2 a couple times
Starting point is 00:48:32 I mean we're seeing just steady increases in the number of people who feel willing to get vaccinated who are going to be who think they'll be willing to get vaccinated uh who are going to be who think they'll be willing to get vaccinated uh yeah the numbers were very discouraging uh earlier in the vaccine or in
Starting point is 00:48:53 the uh pandemic there i forget i think back in september it was about 50 of americans said they were down to get the vaccine and now that number is up to 63 uh so yeah i mean it's a difference when i i wonder how much of it has to do with trump losing too that like in general they're like well if you're asking me in this administration in this context i'm not really but the number started going up in october so it seems like it could be many different things. But in terms of Democrats, 53% said they would be open to it in September. And now it's at 75%. When it comes to independents, just over 60% of independents say they would be willing to get it.
Starting point is 00:49:43 And 50% of Republicans reported that they were willing to be vaccinated. And that hasn't changed. Right. So I don't like if Trump is I don't I'm trying to figure out what their logic is, that if it was Trump's, they were still at 50%. Because all of the misinformation has them so fucked up that even if it was their dear leader being like here's your vaccine they're still like right i don't know i don't know meanwhile there's movement on the other side being like yes please like we need health we need safety yeah i think i'm wondering too sorry keep going i was just saying i think i think his leadership has just been so like this seems pretty intuitive to me that,
Starting point is 00:50:25 that as you know, the person who's in charge or as there's even light at the end of the tunnel, as like the media seemed to come around to the fact that he was losing the election. Like I feel like, and as the, you know, vaccine and the pandemic response got dissociated from his uh administration but i mean
Starting point is 00:50:48 his his leadership has been you know undeniably bad so like the idea when when you're at first associating it with a world in which he is the person who is like leading the charge versus like a world where he might not be i i can fully understand that that shift 50 i wonder too though like this is maybe this is like an off-ramp from the uh main topic but this whole like disinformation thing is so did you guys read that um talking to strangers by any chance by gladwell? No, I haven't. There's this interesting portion of the book that talks about like that outlier. Like everybody in society can say, let's say 99 percent, you know, 40 years ago, let's say 90 percent or 98 percent of people say, yeah, I'd take a vaccine. I'm all for a vaccine.
Starting point is 00:51:41 That's the science. I support it. And then you have one person who's like, no, I'm going to question this a little bit. I'm going to go on the other side of it. You know, what does a vaccine do to your body? Do we know the long term effects? All these things. Right. And you have that one person, that outlier. And he talks about how it's always important to have, you know, at least one person who kind of goes against the majority to kind of just question things, right? But then he talks about what happens if everybody starts to become that kind of outlier idealist and personality who's questioning everything. You have a society that can't function because everybody's just like going off the walls with their ideas and what they believe in.
Starting point is 00:52:20 And I feel like that's what he talked about is kind of what's been happening with social media and this mass amount of disinformation and people not. People find it hard to, I think, believe anything at this point. Yeah, I think some people have a hard time believing both either side of the. Yeah, well, that's right. Then you have people like Jake Paul, who then are like, yeah, 98 percent of news is fake. Like no matter who you're getting it from you're like oh wow impressive i'm glad you have the eye for that two percent of real news yeah and it's 20 million people right who
Starting point is 00:52:51 follow this guy and yeah and and listen to that platform which is scary so it's like is this are we on this like indefinite path of disinformation how do we does this does this cease to exist is this administration slowly becomes a ghost in the White House? I think I'll always just point to the fact that, like, until we take care of people's needs, they're going to be willing to believe whatever explanation someone just slightly a few ticks smarter than them is going to offer them. Yeah. like even if we do get a hold of it like if you don't get people like you know like to work or like the ability to support their families or to have a life and to have health care or an education i think like that's probably going to be the biggest tool to melt away like the you know that sort of mentality of being so contrarian to like you know or feed these fires of misinformation
Starting point is 00:53:41 um but yeah i don't know it's it's i think we're we're experiencing like we're just at the beginning of it like we're we're just at that stage where everyone's like i think it's a problem yeah it already like that's where we're at yeah like yeah it's yeah crazy man the and i think also we need to figure out what we're going to do with regards to social media and how that is policed but i don't i don't know a good solution to that because they're good value uh valuable things that it brings and uh also just nightmarish what happens if you have no replies no rts no likes on twitter right well it's also like the the level of control that we're asking the social media networks to exercise is not when you look at like the story about how the facebook spreading misinformation that led to like race riots that killed thousands of people like the that was a story that was on their radar
Starting point is 00:54:46 and they just didn't do the necessary things to like monitor it they're not they didn't create like the the team that was necessary it's just there's no incentive so i guess like one answer would be that as like just trying would be a good first step because we haven't even tried it's just been a complete fucking free-for-all in terms of like letting these uh networks operate as just ad networks who are only there to monetize the interactions and have no actual responsibilities right all right let's take a break, and we'll be right back. Hey, I'm Bruce Bozzi. On my podcast, Table for Two, we have unforgettable lunch
Starting point is 00:55:35 after unforgettable lunch with the best guest you could possibly ask for, people like David Duchovny. You know, New Yorkers have a reputation of being very tough, but it's not. It's not that way at all. They're very accepting. Jeff Goldblum. Are you saying secret fries? Secret fries. What? That's what you're saying? Yeah. And Kristen Wiig. I just became so aware that I'm such a loud chewer. My husband's just like, sometimes I'll be eating and he'll just be looking at me. I'm like, I'm just eating. Like, I don't know how else to chew. and he'll just be looking at me.
Starting point is 00:56:02 I'm like, I'm just eating. Like, I don't know how else to chew. Table for Two is a bit different from other interview shows. We sit down at a great restaurant for a meal and the stories start flowing. Our second season is airing right now so you can catch up on our conversations that are intimate, surprising, and often hilarious.
Starting point is 00:56:23 Listen to Table for Two with Bruce Bozzi on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago
Starting point is 00:56:43 when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer.
Starting point is 00:57:19 This is Rip Current. Available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Daphne Caruana Galizia was a Maltese investigative journalist who, on October 16, 2017, was murdered. There are crooks everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate. everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate. My name is Manuel Delia. I am one of the hosts of Crooks Everywhere, a podcast that unhurts the plot to murder a one-woman Wikileaks. Daphne exposed the culture of crime and corruption that were turning her beloved country into a mafia state. And she paid the ultimate price.
Starting point is 00:58:01 into a mafia state. And she paid the ultimate price. Listen to Crooks Everywhere starting September 25th on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life.
Starting point is 00:58:25 It's too late for that. I have a thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session. 24 hours. BPM 110. 120. She's terrified. Should we wake her up? Absolutely not.
Starting point is 00:58:46 What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people.
Starting point is 00:59:02 There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. One thing that i've noticed is there's been a flurry of articles we've been talking on the show for a while now about how the it's hard to take the trump administration uh their attempt at you know overturning the election seriously because of just how
Starting point is 00:59:45 surface level farcical it is um at every turn um but there does seem to be you know we like when you describe in broad and general terms what they're trying to do uh it's actually very scary so we were kind of wrestling with that over the past couple weeks and the mainstream media seems to be at least having the conversation about how to you know take some of this stuff seriously uh hopefully not too late that they're having this conversation uh but like there's a bunch of articles on whether it can be called a coup or not uh because it's so incompetent like is does it belong in that category of attempts at overthrowing government wow i don't think an onion style treatment of talking about this is gonna help it's like can he even call it a coup like really you know like it's like um let's not laugh at like the smoldering fire in the corner. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:00:49 I mean, so recently, yesterday, the Arizona Republican Party at AZGOP, so the actual Twitter handle of the Arizona Republican Party, asked their followers if they were willing to die for the cause of stopping the steal in a retweet of an anti-Semitic right-wing extremist who tweeted, I am willing to give my life for this fight. And the Arizona Republican Party retweeted and said,
Starting point is 01:01:15 he is, are you? What the fuck is this, a Gatorade commercial? Yeah, exactly. Is it in you? Like, what the fuck? Is it in you, the next civil war? So they took that down when it uh started getting some backlash uh and then immediately after posted a tweet there was a picture uh from the movie rambo with rambo pointing an arrow point blank at somebody's
Starting point is 01:01:41 like face like the tip of the arrows in the person's face and he's pulling it back. Getting ready to just do a point blank headshot with an arrow, bow and arrow. And says, the tweet is, in quotes, this is what we do, who we are. Live for nothing or die for something. American flag. Again, from the
Starting point is 01:02:00 official Arizona Republican Party. This is how extremist groups also recruit martyrs like people it's the same language of like die for this yeah you down to die for this and i mean luckily like i mean somewhat luckily like a lot of other republicans are pushing back on these tweets which is what when they were getting ratio they're like okay maybe a bad idea but nonetheless that's still creating this environment still exists like people showed up to the michigan secretary of state's house yeah i mean protesting on this stop the steel
Starting point is 01:02:33 nonsense with weapons armed yeah uh while she was trying to decorate her house for christmas uh a real war on christmas moment uh right that will not get covered by fox uh i'd imagine so just on a longer term and like more circumspect view you know i i've also seen the the response even from like people who i think are smart on the left who it just seems like from a posturing perspective don't want to seem like they're the boy who cried wolf or alternately just want to seem like cool enough and like worldly enough to be like, this isn't a coup. You think this is a coup? This is nothing like this. These people are idiots.
Starting point is 01:03:17 You should have studied in Bartholona with me. Right. I've seen that stuff. Yeah. But this writer in the Atlantic, who's a popular, really talented academic named Zeynep Tufekci, wrote. So she grew up in Turkey and she writes about how. Basically, like if you are from a place where coups are common um this definitely feels like a coup and the question of whether it should be called a coup seems somewhat silly and beside the point and it's more important to just talk about in specific terms like what is actually happening because these are all norms that are being
Starting point is 01:04:07 toppled that make it so that you can do a coup with impunity. Like just because this particular time is incompetent, um, it does not mean that we should be ignoring. Like at one point she, uh, just lays out all the things that are happening. And, you know, viewed from the perspective of someone who grew up at the whims of, you know, five major coups throughout her lifetime, paints a pretty stark picture. dark picture like that. The president has repeatedly and baselessly claimed the election was stolen and continues to do so daily, effectively charging the election officers around the country being involved
Starting point is 01:04:50 in a dangerous conspiracy. The president is key allies have repeatedly called for Republican state legislators to steal the election for him. The president who has the power to appoint judges, uh, is asking for Supreme court nominees to, uh, or Supreme court to steal the election for him
Starting point is 01:05:07 uh and has asked the court to throw out valid votes uh right after the election a legal advisor to the president stated we're waiting for the supreme court to uh do something and hopefully amy comey barrett will come through uh high profile allies of his are physically intimidating george's republican government or governor for backing the actual vote count amplified messages that call for people to fight back hard and then his election lawyer said that the entire election and all swing states should be overturned like it's just yeah it's all there yeah and then they said that christopher krebs uh should be shot at dawn like right that's all the sort of thing that you would have in a coup it's just that because the president didn't do the planning necessary and the political maneuvering necessary he
Starting point is 01:06:07 isn't capable of doing it like his team so you're saying like basically the incompetence of the whole coup is why people aren't stating that this is a coup yeah right it's like this it's like that it's like you know fucking crocodile dundee shit where if i try and rob you with a knife and you're like that's not a knife this is a knife and you're like you're you're laughing off your the transgressor because the attempt is so whack and you're like bro i'm gonna call the cops on that idiot that would be good and it's like mentality where it's like well hold on that wasn't attempted robbery right right so really if we won't put this on paper this motherfucker attempted to rob you yeah to be clear that is
Starting point is 01:06:45 not an advisable way to deal with a mugging no because they could just go and get a gun right but either way but to that point is maybe some other goons saw them be like okay so you can't stick them up with that knife okay so i need something bigger than that knife and you're setting it like again we the the real thing here is also in her article is talking about you know treat i think what was the i put the quote at thing here is also in her article is talking about you know treat i think what was the i put the quote at the bottom uh she wrote like this is your first coup if you want to be sure that it's your last exactly like treat this like a robbery right and fucking go and and and bring the law bring them to just like you can't do this shit and i think that's why
Starting point is 01:07:22 there's this other debate that's also brewing is what is joe biden going to do when he becomes the president because this like handholdy well we don't want to like we want to heal the country that's not healing my man that is not going to be healing that is saying yo y'all can get away with this shit if you do it slicker and that is a terror like you have to we have to actually put an end to it by actually exercising or whatever using the legal system justice system to try and hold these people to account but i i i seriously doubt that that would ever happen because you know democrats are the party of like this is a smoke-free environment even if the smoke is necessary for the good of the country. And she talks about how one of the coups that overthrew her government and that was very dangerous and led to hundreds of people being tortured to death was basically the remnants or the aftershock of an original coup that was laughed out of the building like like this one is being like it was not seen as serious and she also points to napoleon bonaparte the third napoleon bonaparte's
Starting point is 01:08:35 i guess grandson like did did a coup that was like called beyond comedy by uh the french press and then eventually like 10 years later overthrew the government and remade it in his image for you know 30 years and completely altered the course of history after an attempted coup that was absurd and hilarious the wild thing is this isn't even hilarious you know what i mean like it's yeah in a way like sure rudy giuliani's sweating black from his head and you know smearing snot on his face and stuff like that but like the but when you're looking at it it's truly like we're saying like it's the fourth quarter for white supremacy as like a form of governance or there's attempts to try and fight fight back against it and it's like these they're
Starting point is 01:09:23 not gonna fucking just lay down like the whole country was built on this so there i think it's it's it's a dangerous thing to like i think on one level like we laugh about it too on this show but that's more of like out of existential dread uh but at the same time wanting to keep an eye on this shit because i think we as we talk about it you there will always be somebody who's trying to improve upon the last person's contribution in like every field you know like there is somebody who is knuckling up be like see trump did it wrong this way like if you're gonna bring in a ethno state it has to happen this way like there are people whose gears are moving too and i think that's why it's it's it's important to not to also have the mindset that it's not over January 20th.
Starting point is 01:10:06 Right. This is the beginning of the next phase of whatever this country's history is, and it's pivotal. Right. I also think, too, in just America in general, the American people, and even I think to an extent I've certainly thought this way sometimes. I think there's disillusionment of like, oh, that wouldn't happen in America, though. Turkey, tanks running over civilians and helicopters shooting at buildings. That wouldn't happen here. That can never happen here.
Starting point is 01:10:36 And I think it's important to keep in mind that that absolutely could happen here. To be honest, I used to think a coup was only defined as like a general military. Yeah. Yeah. I didn't even know. Right. Yeah. I had no idea that it could be. I mean, and it totally makes sense, obviously, that it can be defined as an that specific definition and like the it really seems strange that there would be so much energy on being like this isn't a coup and defining what a coup is and like making sure that uh something that isn't that like doesn't get because there's been like tons of articles there's a washington post op-ed uh that is like all about how this isn't a coup and you shouldn't call it a coup um right but like the the u.s
Starting point is 01:11:25 government has been subject to coups from like within from the cia like you know you have these governments within the government that are taking over uh doing underhanded black state uh black ops shit and you know because we're not willing to like when you actually read the history of these things uh it's like oh yeah they created the reality that we grew up in to favor them but like it's there's a whole other history of like uh things that just we didn't view as a coup because it was happening under the surface yeah again it's a coup on paper. So treat it like, you know, and I think that's why the next administration and even now they need to be talking like this. But again, it's too spicy.
Starting point is 01:12:15 It's OK for the people on the right to be calling for whatever the fuck they're doing. But it's but it's like just a bridge slightly too far for democrat democratic leadership to be like they are attempting a coup i don't know i don't care what they want to call it this is straight horse shit uh but it's more just like well we'll let the courts handle it and that was a nice try um finally i want to talk about a story that would have i don't know it's it seems like it's way too important to cover in three minutes which we're gonna try and do but uh the former head of israel's uh what's his official title he ran i mean he ran his space program yeah he was the head of their
Starting point is 01:13:00 space program like there's no he's not some guy with a cool twitter handle uh that you know bb net and yahoo like fucks with it's like you know he's he's i think he was running it from like the 80s to like 2010 or something yeah and yeah but for context he's saying if i had come up with what i'm saying today five years ago and we'll get to what he's saying i would have been hospitalized. Wherever I've gone with this in academia, they've said the man has lost his mind. Today, they're already talking differently.
Starting point is 01:13:32 I have nothing to lose. I've received my degrees and awards. I'm respected in universities abroad where the trend is also changing. That trend, he says that we have made alien contact, the U.S. government and Israel in particular, that we are in communication and in fact in a legal contract with the extraterrestrials. his quotes i'm glad that the the aliens respect contract law that's a good sign he said quote there's an agreement between the u.s government and the aliens they signed a contract with us to do experiments here they too are researching and trying to understand the whole fabric of the universe and they want us as helpers um yeah i i just the signed a contract is where it goes a little too far i was on board agreement maybe you know contract were they were they
Starting point is 01:14:37 redlining did they get the lawyers involved are the are the aliens their own legal counsel they're like sorry this this is actually a poison pill in this deal. We will not do it if it's contained in the contract language. I don't – but they're saying one of the first hubs of cooperation is a base on Mars where, by the way, astronauts have already set foot, American astronauts. And the base is underground. That's why you can't see it. I love aliens. i love aliens i love aliens my uncle has a ten thousand dollar telescope in new hampshire and he was showing me jupiter up
Starting point is 01:15:12 close i've i've said this before i'll say it again if i have a family six kids i need to be there for my family and aliens come to me and say hey we'll take you with us you can never come back here see anybody again but you'll get to see the galaxy for what it is i'd be like let's go you're right i would go okay i want to prologue with that but i will say this guy lost me when he plugged his book he's got a book coming out he's got a book coming out that's where he lost me you know oh yeah i mean i know it's and even in a way though it's like you don't want this guy's book though you know even like as a thing if like if he was talking that real shit he's like you know it's so complex like to say it use the word agreement would completely betray the forms of communication these life forms use
Starting point is 01:15:55 i would be like whoa okay but when you're treating it like a fucking like just you know a funny comedy film where they was like hey let's collab on some research fam like okay and and then even like his his explanation it's like what where y'all been where the aliens been what's going on he mentioned trump in there too yeah he did say that uh trump was on the verge of revealing all of this but the aliens in the Galactic Federation which I think is literally a term from Star Trek but maybe not. Aliens in the Galactic Federation are saying wait
Starting point is 01:16:32 let everyone calm down first. They don't want to start mass hysteria. They want to first make us sane and understanding. So here's why like obviously I want to believe and I'm going to always err on the side of yeah this could be possible the thing about the contract so one of my theories on aliens is that
Starting point is 01:16:53 they might end up being a lot more similar to us than we expect them to be because of parallel evolution and the fact that like when you look in australia at like the wildlife that evolved there and it like looks almost identical to wildlife that evolved independently in the u.s it's like there when you have the conditions of life in two different seemingly different places like they do end up cohering similarly so i don't know like maybe maybe that is something that eventually always comes up and when there's a civilization that has evolved to a certain point maybe they're like well you gotta have contracts man i mean yeah other one then nothing separates us from the single-celled organisms please i didn't come all this way to not have the legal paperwork and to protect my interests in this agreement earthling but i also just like picturing the process of getting
Starting point is 01:17:57 from respected in academic circles has this hugely powerful, uh, career. And now what makes like just selling books, just being like, yeah, like it just seems, I don't know. I have, I have a hard time imagining that,
Starting point is 01:18:19 uh, evolution, like unless he was always all along, like had some suspicion that there was alien contact like he's just keeping his mouth shut because it was gonna cost him his job all the time they're like dude you gotta knock that shit off like you're like we have serious scientists here and he's just using like the same shit that ufo heads in the u.s use right like i'm just saying roswell though dog what look at this viral video.
Starting point is 01:18:46 Dude, what about that beam of light above Tel Aviv that just shot up in the sky? What was that? They have it from multiple angles. That was doctored. We already talked about this, doctor. They did a great job on it. It looks legit. I wonder if too, at a certain point,
Starting point is 01:19:01 this is his Breaking Bad kind of thing. He was like, fuck it. I got nothing. I'm going to go all in on this alien shit and get a book deal and get my little check so I can, you know, just buy my retirement cabin and live life comfortably because my government pension is running out. So I got to exploit that position to say some wild alien shit. I don't know. That would be a smart move, though, because instantly. Right. wild alien shit i don't know that would be a smart move though because instantly right like it's a it's this has been a global headline because of because of the position he held the pedigree so
Starting point is 01:19:31 it's like just if so if you just have that former title to give you any authority keep in mind anybody in any position with authority you can do this come out with some outlandish shit that will just be like upend the general accepted knowledge of your industry and people like what the former head of what said what but this huh and then people will laugh you out but you'll get your little shine yeah so you're you're officially on uh this guy's uh lost it or is just trying to sell books shit i don't know i mean i like the energy i love that i love the energy of someone who's gonna like completely change the game on us like this and be like no y'all not
Starting point is 01:20:12 listening they have signed fucking contracts okay and trump almost fucked it all up and then the aliens were like nah fam just dead that for a second because the people are not ready for us to do our grand reveal. So if you could just sit on that, we would appreciate that. And Donald Trump was like, bet. And, you know, that's basically who our president is. He respects the, you know, agency of these aliens to reveal themselves. I just love all of it.
Starting point is 01:20:40 It's like it's also tough, though, too, because we're like having this conversation in society right now about believing the scientists and buying into these people. I'm like, this guy is an academic, super respected. He ran their space program. So this is somebody who we should buy into. Right. Like we should say like, yeah, he's probably. Well, I need like for something like this. It's like, yo, you need I need you to bring a few friends with you.
Starting point is 01:21:00 The ratios aren't good here for a thing like this. Yeah, I need better ratios. I need like five other people who like y'all can actually be like yo y'all okay we're not gonna tell y'all but that one mission look into that and then i would be like uh-oh uh-oh but yeah what can i mean if the aliens are out there trying to get us to be more reasonable you know i'm just saying where did this vaccine come from it's all of a sudden we got a vaccine that's 90 accurate or effective come on dude you think the aliens didn't give that to us what the fuck did you think i was talking about when i said operation warp speed i was on the fucking uss enterprise motherfucker securing the vaccine
Starting point is 01:21:39 there's no way he would i thought i was in the hospital with covid i was doing deals in fucking zebulon 369-z there's no way he'd be able to uh not brag about that shit i know actually brokering this deal right god because he's gonna do we've heard about his negotiating tactics he's gonna be in there's like nice to meet you alien people. I'm surprisingly calm in this negotiation, but I just want to start off by saying, fuck you. And he walks out. That's right.
Starting point is 01:22:12 That's right. Uh, shit. That is the main thing that keeps me from believing this is the idea that Trump would be able to, you know, put his own ego behind the greater good of the species relationship to our alien leaders.
Starting point is 01:22:30 Yeah. Well, stay tuned. Also stay tuned to what Trump has to say when he's out of office. Connor, it has been fun having you, man. Where can people find you and follow you? Hey, Twitter or Instagram.
Starting point is 01:22:52 I'm not super involved in Twitter, so you don't need to follow me on Twitter. I'll just make random sports tweets that are useless. You can follow me on Instagram at ConnorDelRioDude. Yeah. It did kind of seem that way when they were first talking about it, you know, parking signs. Yep.
Starting point is 01:24:17 Yeah. That's it. That's the one that stuck with me. Yeah. He's a very funny guy. People should follow him. Very funny. Miles,

Starting point is 01:26:28 this is a track uh from ruthven r-u-t-h-v-e-n uh and this is an artist out of london who's just doing like throwback rm 80s r&b style but like from the year 2020 uh so if you like got down to any you know you love that 80s r&b sound you're gonna like the work of ruthven but it's also like funny because his like londoner accent is so strong that it comes out in some words and you're used to hearing like more like american like black english saying certain words right and then suddenly you're like in it or whatever some kind of idiom or something like that but the track goes it's called evil and it's uh i don't know it's like just one of those things it's it's it's remarkably nostalgic, but also future-looking. So we like that.
