Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of American Trendalow. That's Miles. I'm Jack.
Starting point is 00:02:07 And let's get right into the sexy trailers, shall we? Because that's all we were talking about before we hit record. We had the whole squad on. And I'm not going to name names, but one of our super producers producers very thrilled about this new trailer uh for the american gigolo remake slash they're turning the richard gear movie into a showtime series starring john barrenthal yeah the cop the cop the cop john barrenthal um what is he what i i like i never watched the punisher tv show i've seen him in like various things but like he was a that guy to me for a long time like up until maybe early this year
Starting point is 00:02:56 just looking at john bernthal i mean like i mean he he's just like this he's a he's he's the new tough guy face he was even in likeIA. When I saw him in video games as characters, I was like, oh, okay. You've fully crossed into the visual language of hero face when they make a character after you.
Starting point is 00:03:17 He's in The Wolf of Wall Street. Maybe that's where I first saw him. He's in Fury. I think maybe that. Me being a watcher of film. Oh, Sicario. He's in fury i think maybe that me being a uh a watcher of film oh sicario he's in sicario but he's like always a that guy in those yeah i mean i feel like he always has a gun in the movie like yeah he can't be photographed without a pistol in his hand but this trailer he's jiggling it up that's for sure the i love okay So when we're watching this trailer, this, uh, yet to,
Starting point is 00:03:45 uh, super producer who will not be named, uh, was hooting and hollering for a lot of the shots. It was wild. I mean, in a way, like it kind of,
Starting point is 00:03:55 I was like, damn, maybe I need to be feeling this more, but there's this one shot. Cause you know, it's all about him being sexy and enticing and blah, blah, blah.
Starting point is 00:04:02 But he would like openish. There's one time where he's opening his shirt they got a real tight shot on his like six pack and the way he like opens his shirt and kind of shimmies this is like magic mike type shit like but taken out of the context that it's like a dance show it's just like the way that this man lives his life, he interacts with the world as though he were a great exotic dancer.
Starting point is 00:04:31 It seems to be working for him in this trailer. It's hot, man. He looks great. I know. I'm looking him up. I'm like, damn, bro. How many trainers you got to have to see that many abdominals 45 yeah his abdominals are popping yeah he's 45 damn son what studio paid for that training the um the the main thing that like always messed up my ability to take this man
Starting point is 00:05:01 seriously is his picture on Wikipedia. When you look up Jon Bernthal, or Bernthal, B-E-R-N-thal, T-H-A-L. It's Bernthal Bears. He is on his Wikipedia page with a triple G hat, which triple G I think is like an MMA fighter
Starting point is 00:05:19 or like a boxer. And it's like cocked to the side and he looks like he opened to the side and he looks like he and uh open to the third button black button up shirt and like this somebody needs to put one of his films one of his acting roles that's what's great about wikipedia they're just like nah fuck you this is you dude this is you right here um it looks like comic-con yeah he looks like who's some someone who's trying to sell you like molly and crypto at the same time yeah somehow like he's like i got everything but trailer looks good trailer looks sexy and this this coincides with another sexy teaser trailer we
Starting point is 00:06:02 saw from hbo max or hbo on one of the two but for the idol which is what sam levinson and the weekend the creator of uh euphoria and that's another trailer i watched it my fucking i was like oh shit this kind of makes euphoria look tame am i far off based on the trailer yeah it looks fucked up it looks it looks pretty wild for sure yeah it looks like the weekend like getting into all his like you know uh sex and drugs uh but like the dark side of yeah and there's also some interesting like seeing the weekend with his slicked back hair in the idol is kind of a look and a vibe just like seeing wayne brady as like bernthal's pimp in american gigolo there's some interesting bald and soul patched up
Starting point is 00:06:51 yeah wayne brady and what and that film is basically i'm i'm guessing it's about a you know the idol follows a twisted story of a self-help guru la club owner and leader of a modern day cult who sparks a complicated relationship with a rising pop star played by Lily Rose Depp. Oh, that's Lily Rose Depp? Damn. Man, all the darkness is present in this movie. Yeah. That's wild.
Starting point is 00:07:15 Get ready. So, get ready, folks. I can't still the weekend with his straightened, slick back hair is such a fucking look. I had no idea it was the weekend based on straightened slick back hair is such a fucking look. I had no idea it was the weekend based on just, you know, having, I watched
Starting point is 00:07:32 his Super Bowl halftime performance although I think he was like all bandaged up and I've been a fan of his music for a long time. Get ready for the acting. Yeah, since his early House of Balloons, where when it was like they wouldn't show who he was,
Starting point is 00:07:48 and I was like, oh, is this person all going to be all messed up looking or something? Are they going to look like Freddy Krueger? And then, no, it turns out he's going to have a very successful acting career, maybe. Yeah. Although, also, could go the other way, because we haven't really seen him act. We've seen him play The Weeknd circa 2012 in Uncut Gems. Yeah, I think we came to the conclusion, though,
Starting point is 00:08:14 based on how horny his lyrics are and the way he sings, that acting, you'd expect that to be in his wheelhouse. But again, you never know if he's off the top of the road. It is a first-time performance where I would be i have like pretty reasonable expectations i'm not going into it being like this is gonna be bad yeah you're like this better be horny this better be this better be horny or i'm out of here hey speaking of this better be horny, Netflix somehow. Not the horniest of earnings calls. Earnings calls. Yeah, they had their earnings called and they were like,
Starting point is 00:08:52 okay, so the fact that we lost hundreds of thousands, like close to a million subscribers. In the US and Canada, dropped by 1.3 million over the last three months. Okay, so sounds bad, right? Well, what if I told you that we're going to gain millions of subscribers in the next quarter? Okay, what if you just didn't lose
Starting point is 00:09:14 a million of them? We will not be taking any questions. We will not be taking any questions, actually, on this earning call. All right. My bad. I'll stop talking. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:24 I mean, I'm imagining because this earlier today, there was a story about how Netflix is dialing in their like streaming, streaminal password share crackdown shit. And which makes sense because that probably they can point to that as being like, yeah,
Starting point is 00:09:39 we lost a million people, give or take. But we got this thing where we'll charge people more money so we've talked about how they're doing a trial run of like how to figure out how to like crack down on password sharing and they've been doing it in argentina el salvador guatemala uh honduras and the dominican republic and they're basically saying that they've been the customers in those countries are being asked to pay an extra fee if they use an account for more than two weeks outside of their primary residence and they said it won't
Starting point is 00:10:12 affect their the use on mobile devices nor will it affect people on vacation but the additional home will cost around you know like around two bucks give or take a month which i'm like hmm also like if you can get around using it with a smartphone just like use your smartphone and then cast it to a tv right or is that or they know if you're casting they probably do but yeah they probably find a way to make that difficult the face of the crackdown is actually going to be john bernthal they've hired him to play the uh cop the password cop, who's going to come through and
Starting point is 00:10:47 bounce some heads off of walls. You don't want to upset a cop, do you? You ain't sharing no fucking password, huh? In addition to being very hot, John Bernthal gives off big cop vibes. I mean, that's why he plays a cop in most things. Yeah. When your head is like a cinder block,
Starting point is 00:11:04 I'm sorry, you get typecast a lot. You have macho face. Now go for it. He's got big macho face energy. Also macho torso energy. And just macho general vibes energy. Cops wish, by the way,
Starting point is 00:11:20 cops wish that they were half as brave as the made-up characters John Bernthal plays in TV and film as they made up characters john bernthal plays where that they looked like john bernthal you wish okay uh secret service hey speaking of cops uh the u.s secret service has determined um this is this is helpful information they've determined they have no new texts to provide congress relevant to its January 6th investigation and that any other texts its agents exchanged around the time of the 2021 attack on the Capitol
Starting point is 00:11:50 were purged. Wait, I'm sorry. Hold on, because we said... Oh, y'all wanted that? Oh, man. You should have told us. Okay, can we get you something else? We can give you literally any other thing that's ever been said.
Starting point is 00:12:06 Just we don't have anything from January 5th or 6th. That was all we did. Anything else you want, we got. And this isn't a cover-up. This isn't fucking shady. You don't need the National Archives now sniffing around, asking us what the fuck is going on over there. Why are you guys covering shit up?
Starting point is 00:12:22 I mean, it's pretty fucking disturbing that this is just a full, like, they're really like, yo, we don't know what the fuck's going on over there? Why are you guys covering shit up? I mean, it's pretty fucking disturbing that this is just a full like, they're really like, yo, we don't know what the fuck's going on. Yeah. Democracy. Huh? I feel like this might have been as good as it gets this last election. We'll see.
Starting point is 00:12:39 We will see. Let's take a quick break. We'll be right back. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between
Starting point is 00:13:15 high-control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. lot of questions like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? Or can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes. Each week we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer,
Starting point is 00:14:18 we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Santer. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it, like you miss 100% of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Explore the making of a rivalry. Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history.
Starting point is 00:15:05 People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them. Why is that? I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black.
Starting point is 00:15:24 I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:15:47 The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session, 24 hours. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do.
Starting point is 00:16:05 One session. 24 hours. BPM 110. 120. She's terrified. Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that?
Starting point is 00:16:19 You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing.
Starting point is 00:16:37 They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. Chipotle is another one of the fast food restaurants that is union busting. Fast food, as we call it. Yeah, fast. Fast food.
Starting point is 00:17:11 Fast casual. So, you know, Starbucks is already freaking out because the workers are already getting in touch with their worth and organizing to guarantee better results for themselves. And Chipotle had a restaurant unionize uh in augusta maine and it was historic they're like this is the first store uh and you damn sure know how this story ends they fucking closed that it was the first store to become the first in the country to vote to unionize last month and now grand opening grand closing and with just real typical like oh yeah we had
Starting point is 00:17:47 to close it down not because like they weren't exploitable enough it's because quote despite the considerable time and resources we've been spent we've spent trying to staff the restaurant we don't have management necessary to reopen and combined with the ongoing call outs and lack of availability of existing staff we won't be able to open the restaurant for the foreseeable future as a result Chipotle has made the difficult decision to close this location permanently so just good old fashioned union resting
Starting point is 00:18:14 I mean I'm sure this is you know in the art of fucking over workers there's a nuanced way to make it seem like what do you want to do like this this is so hard and with the meager wages we're offering no one wants to be here right so it's i mean i think it's you know it's one of those things where i don't know what the good you take from it aside from
Starting point is 00:18:37 you know you like to see a company sweat but at the same time like that's so fucked up for the those workers who put in the hours to unionize their restaurants just to have this shit sprung right back on them. It does feel like there's many laws that get broken on a daily basis. And the ones that are allowed to break the laws tend to be the big corporations. Yeah. All right. AOC is trending. A bunch of the squad got arrested got arrested many other 16 members of
Starting point is 00:19:08 congress 16 members of congress got arrested while uh protesting outside the supreme court yep hey figured out how to round up people real quick in that instance didn't you uh but any other crimes that are being committed uh not people not people advocating for the preservation of their rights but yeah it was I think 34 people in total were arrested for rightfully
Starting point is 00:19:36 protesting outside of the house that a demon built known as the Supreme Court Limp Bizkit is trending because they're canceling the rest of the their uk tour yeah because fred durst has personal health issues yeah um it's i don't know what's going on exactly there yeah uh but yeah you know it's for for all the limp biscuit fans out there who did it all for the Nookie.
Starting point is 00:20:06 So they came out with a new album called Still Sucks in 2021. What were the reviews of that? Probably I mean they kind of led with their chin on that one. But you got to respect it given it's such an appropriate name.
Starting point is 00:20:23 I was not aware they were out there touring but good to see good to see um and then finally there might be a solar storm we're not sure our resident solar storm expert super producer brian uh let us know that we we've been in like major solar storm activity that might be fucking with your technology and you might have a solar storm, some solar activity headed your way in the next 24 hours. If so, if suddenly
Starting point is 00:20:51 your phone stops working, we warned you first. If you didn't, if you don't, you just got lucky. There was a flare, a large flare that hit on July 15th and they said some radio went out in some places but yeah i i think uh i don't know look this is why i have everything on vinyl because
Starting point is 00:21:11 i'm ready for this shit yeah including the internet it's most of your house yeah yeah their first album the internet's first album on vinyl really good shout out to sid and the whole band yeah and also the just all just all of Wikipedia stored on vinyl. The most insufferable, like what the fuck is it? Put on the, put on the one about the Gulf of Tonkin affair. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:36 That is a good one. That is actually, I'm glad that you picked such a good Wikipedia. Look, I know how to host people in my post-apocalyptic parlor. We put on the old Wikipedia article. All right. Well, those are some of the things that are trending on this Tuesday afternoon. Look, I know how to host people in my post-apocalyptic parlor.
