What happened was a skunk came to my window and I think sprayed me. That's what that odor is. I know it smells skunky, too.
Starting point is 00:02:27 Yeah. I'm sorry. Yeah, I'm going to try and wipe it off. But don't worry. I got to teach this guy. Anyway, kids. Hey, Principal's kind of a cop, huh? Anyway, so welcome, internet class students, listeners, to Season 179.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Another one in the bag. Episode 1 of the Daily Zeitgegeist the production of iheart radio it's the podcast where we take a look actually nay a deep dive into america's shared consciousness and say wow okay well there's work to do here uh but don't worry it's monday april 5th, 2021. My name is Miles Gray, a.k.a. Cannabis Crushed in a Perfect Line. Stopwatch set up, ready to measure the time. The blunt guess rolled and the end lit up. Toking and smoking, it burns to the top. He deftly maneuvers the runs and the stalls.
Starting point is 00:03:19 Time ticking fast as in his notebook he scrawls. High as a kite that checks on the time. Half a gram and it's done right at nine. Ba-dum, ba-dum, ba-dum. Miles smoking the distance. Shout out to Hank Skipper on Discord. I think you're talking about how I was talking to my therapist about these ones going that they were. They are.
Starting point is 00:03:38 They will. I should probably do some time lapse footage, but I think her majesty would ask if i've done other chores and i'll say no inevitably so we'll have to wait on that footage but i digress i want to join my co-host my guest co-host someone who has been helping guide me the misguided high substitute teacher while jack is away to keep me you know focused and so please help me welcome the brilliant the talented the hilarious the energetic the dedicated the nerd dumb and you damn sure she's gonna be in a fucking movie theater the second that shit opens up probably with me and maybe we'll be smoking a blunt maybe we'll get kicked out i don't know but please welcome joelle monique
Starting point is 00:04:19 yeah it's joelle joelle joelle monique i'm begging of you please come host my pod princess rainbow you wrote beautiful lyrics for me and i'm just forever grateful thank you so much uh i'm so glad to be back uh justin pointed out to me after our recording uh the other day that i went on a six minute rant about wanting to go back to the movie yeah we felt it in real time but yeah I was like I'm going to the movies with this motherfucker I don't know what they just the energy it's like one of those things where you know somebody's feeling something so deeply and you're like I trust this energy so I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm gonna I'm just gonna let this guide me yeah and that's what it felt like listen we go into the movies I'm just going to let this guide me. And that's what it felt like.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Listen, we go into the movies. I'm going to try. I've already put a little bug in Zach's ear. I'm like, bro, have your girl hook me up with those Black Widow tickets, bro. Let's go. I'm trying to get to the premiere of it. Come on, Donald. Come on, everybody. Help us out.
Starting point is 00:05:21 Come on, Donald. You were my light-skinned idol. I had nobody who looked like me till murray and clueless and did i model my entire energy after murray from clueless after that you goddamn right i did because i got no one else donald i definitely wanted to be turk from scrubs but mostly just so i could have um carla his partner on the show i thought carla was dope as hell she was funny yeah cute but she ran shit so yeah there's the idolization for sure for the ladies i mean while i was just asking everybody i say yo woman let me five dollars and they're like what and i'm like that
Starting point is 00:05:58 didn't work like it did in the movie it's not it's not the same it doesn't hit quite right you gotta have the braces and the bucket hat yo to work exactly i mean it's got it's not the same it doesn't hit quite right you got to have the braces and the bucket hat yo to work exactly i mean it's got it all though and then even then he really does he's able to sort of dismantle the misogyny even within that uh which i think is a that's that's where murray does redeem himself um i believe that when he says most of the feminine pronouns do have mocking but not necessarily in misogynistic undertones and he does his tongue thing and then he walks off anyway all that to say we need to introduce our guest who is someone i've been missing someone i've been wanting to
Starting point is 00:06:37 hear from someone who really put it in our ears to say you know look around for all the destabilization that's happening in the united states because that's that's the long road to you know total failure societal collapse or some kind of bad thing and ever since then i think we always try and keep that front of mind and not in a bad way but just in a way that we're trying to inform ourselves and be aware so please help me please help me introduce our guest today the The wonderful, hilarious, talented, brilliant Zara Norbach. Up on the mic. Here I come. Up on the mic.
Starting point is 00:07:16 Hey, hey. Good morning. Good morning. Good afternoon. And if I don't see you later, good night. Or whatever they said in Truman Show. Oh, I miss the 90s. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:27 All the time. Y'all watch a 90s movie lately? It's different. Yeah. It hits weird. What did I watch recently? Oh, I watched Volcano. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:07:38 Isn't that what Tommy Lee Jones? They have to blow up the Beverly Center to reroute the magma off of La Cienega? Yes, it was fantastic and so accurate. I know, right? If we're going to keep suggesting 90s movies with volcanoes, is it George vs. the Volcano? Joe vs. the Volcano. Joe! Joe vs. Volcano.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Listen, it's the wildest movie you will ever watch. Somehow, it is irreverent. It breaks all the rules of logic logic and yet you're still like damn it that's such a cute little movie i love it check out all the volcano movies from the 90s we were oh my god yeah we were talking about dante's peak oh yeah yes yes that's uh pierce rosnan yes and don't and uh linda hamilton yeah damn tour de force that's a good fucking that's a peak peak packed cast but i feel like there was a thing where i remember scientists were debating if dante's peak or volcano was the better one and they're saying well because they are saying that like at the labrea tar pits by
Starting point is 00:08:38 virtue of that i will have to give the edge to volcano that's what did it okay that's awesome or maybe that was something my uh i don't know to uh to valk to furious volcano i don't know to valk to fear it says volcano fire on the mountain and i'm not sure if that's like a more full title for the original or a follow-up sequel oh that has to be is it tommy lee jones because if it isn't you know that's one of them janky they're like hey we still own the ip so we can technically use it i'm so mad that i missed the six minute rant on missing movie theaters because you know what else i miss about the trickle down of movie theaters in our lives is tour de force. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:26 A tour de force. Like seeing reviews. Remember, reviews would like flash across the screen and be like, tour de force. A tour de force. Ugh. And then if you did a parody, they'd say a tour de farce of epic proportions. And you're like, I am seeing hot shots part due, I guess. I miss that deep voice narrator describing everything I was seeing. In a lab.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Yeah. Far away. Oh, God. That guy got you amped for a movie, and now he's gone. I know. Give that man his job back. Well, that guy, like, he does, like, drops for the radio, though, too. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:10:01 Okay, but who's listening to the radio? The children listen to, you know, YouTubers and podcasts. Like in Bodega Boys, they got one of the announcer guys to say, you know, the most dangerous podcast in the universe. Do the drop. Like, is, I think, one of those OG
Starting point is 00:10:17 announcer guys. So, anyway. You know what? The Daily Zeitgeist needs a trailer. Like a proper... We have not done our part. Like a proper thriller trailer. We're a diffuse group. You know, like we can't, you know, when you do that, we're just a movement. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:10:31 A bowel movement, if you will, of podcast proportions. Zara, how is everything? How you doing? What's new? How you living? You all right? Oh, wow. So let's see.
Starting point is 00:10:40 In the last month, I almost died. No. Are you for real? Yeah. Oh, if I can ask ask so sorry to hear that i had to have um thank you me too yeah i had you know when sometimes you surprise yourself and it's like oh hey yeah i still like life oh my god oh shit what about that i had fomo I had FOMO the ultimate FOMO right
Starting point is 00:11:07 the ultimate FOMO tour de force mortality the ultimate FOMO great movie exactly great unless you believe
Starting point is 00:11:16 in reincarnation in which case you know fucking yo infinity here I come back as a mushroom there you go
Starting point is 00:11:23 processing nuclear waste so you're good I'm good I had to have emergency surgery on my gallbladder oh my god that's a lot I'm so thankful to my body and my nerves for feeling that pain
Starting point is 00:11:40 and not trying to ride it out because yeah they said that if i had waited a day i would have died oh my gosh zara wow and i straight up like i had uh learned this trick to sort of like move gallstones out of the duct and uh ease the pain and i was feeling like not that you know i was feeling better and so i wondered for a second like should i go in right and i did and i'm so grateful yeah wow okay let me listen to all of you listeners and unfortunately like that's another reason why it's so important that people have health care because yes there there is a entire i was on that insurance plan too called do i really gotta go though right you know what i mean and that's and to hear that you were within hours of
Starting point is 00:12:37 a completely opposite outcome i think more than anything like we have that's what these are these are like the kinds of situations in which you don't want a person to have to consider if when they feel physically ill that they can't get help. So I'm so glad that you're on the other side of that. So, yes. Okay, well, shit, eventful. And has that given you a renewed sense of vigor that I'm sure only something as intense like that could? Oh, yeah, because they took out my gallbladder and now I can have fats again and I'm cheesing it up.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Yes. Oh, shit. Oh, okay. A whole new world. There we go. Oh, my God. I'm coming through with a brick of cheddar later on. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:13:17 Oh, yeah. Well, okay. So glad we got that out of the way. Glad to know you're having cheese, you're living your best life now, and your FOMO is gone and we can look on to bigger things and we will get to know you even better but first we got to tell people what we're going to talk about again just wondering if corporations really are going to have to be the people to save this democracy because it's it seems like those are the ones that are making noise up loud enough that maybe something will happen
Starting point is 00:13:45 but still tbd uh i want to shine some light on a uh like a covid anti-vaxxer grifter boot camp um the cbc shout out canada they basically paid for this person's course and then reported back like what exactly was it was doing and um yeah you'll you might not be surprised to hear how these people are talking and trying to figure out how to manipulate people into avoiding science um andrew yang he is back with a fucking banger he's gonna blow the doors off your fucking civic with this new track oh my god we're gonna have to do a hip-hop review and guess what i'm not gonna pull punches and uh we'll talk about google google maps they're preparing us for the apocalypse but like with really cool features that honestly like will make it easier
Starting point is 00:14:35 to navigate the apocalypse so i'm i feel good about it mixed feelings oh yeah well you know look it's this is where we are folks yeah and we are gonna and it's gonna be like terminator where skynet is google you know what i mean oh boy okay so um let's keep our focus on you zara the guest and ask what is something from your search history that is revealing about who you are is turbo vax guy hot who's turbo vax guy okay so i when you wrote that i thought you wrote turbo tax wrong there's some shit called turbo facts okay yeah i learned about it this morning and i saw it on my twitter feed this morning.
Starting point is 00:15:26 Everybody was asking if he was hot. And so I wanted to type it in and know. And he created a website in New York that has gotten like thousands, is it thousands of people vaccinated? Everybody fact check everything I say. Millions of people. Thanks to this guy. The entire United States. And then he closed down the website for a hot minute saying that if Asian Americans aren't welcome in this country, then his contributions aren't either.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Oh, yeah. Oh, OK. Yeah. And he got a huge pun intended viral response. Hey. Yeah. And he got a huge, pun intended, viral response. Hey. Yeah, he kind of. But I wanted to know if he was hot, though. Okay, I'm examining. He has very kind eyes.
Starting point is 00:16:14 He looks like one of my uncles. He has what? I say he has very kind eyes. 10 out of 10 would run my fingers through his hair. Yeah, the hair is luxury. Cheekbones, real good. Like, just real sculpted there. I would have given Room for Improvement on the cheekbones.
Starting point is 00:16:31 8 out of 10. See, for me, it's the mustache. The mustache is not killing the game for me. I'm going to give this guy, like, a 9 out of 10. Like, the mustache is... I feel like we could go full beard which is my suggestion for all men just grow a beard uh or really anyone i have to pull up for my asian brother here some of us cannot grow full beards some of us you know what that mustache is the
Starting point is 00:16:57 motherfucking beard you know what i mean i feel you bro i feel you. I like that you said you can call me Vaddy for short. Okay. V-A-D-D-Y. All right, now calm down. That's cute. Come on. Come on. He's out here.
Starting point is 00:17:12 He's working it. I respect it. Calm down, Poppy. You can call me Vaddy. Look, are you in it for the vaccines? Are you in it just to be someone's vaccine daddy, Vaddy? Hopefully both. Listen, it's been a long time for the single folks.
Starting point is 00:17:24 You don't know this. You're happily shacked up. But for the single folks, it's about a long time for the single folks. You don't know this. You're happily shacked up. But for the single folks, it's about to be the wildest summer ever. You know, I feel like you guys are going about hotness all wrong here. As a married woman, what I really look for is can I wear those clothes? Yes. Yes. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:43 A new standard. Are you feeling the cable knit sweater or no? Yes. We're always the the cable knit sweater or no yes we're always feeling and the cardi he has a oh and he has a cardigan yeah i'm like zara that's now a nine and a half mannequin that's a mannequin you're lusting after oh my god look at that outfit oh i would be killing it in that shirt zara we're in a zara and that is a mannequin. But go off. I get it.
Starting point is 00:18:12 Different strokes and everything. This is my last four lives. What's something you think is overrated? Biden's plan in response to the Atlanta shooting. There's a plan? Terrifies me. Well, I saw a hot flash of a plan that said something like, we hear you. No.
Starting point is 00:18:34 And that's why. Just me with that one. We hear you. Right? Okay. Heard, heard, heard. That's why we're going to up our surveillance of culturally specific groups and seek out domestic abusers for more lists. And I was like, huh?
Starting point is 00:18:53 That's problematica, encyclopedia problematica. That's weird. No, no, we don't need more carceral technology introduced. Yeah, that's the exact opposite of what we're hoping for i let's all say together now it's gun control nah nah nah see because everything has to mean cha-ching for an industry oh uh terrorism that's inspired by our fucked up foreign policy let's start a war and fire and then we can give all the money to the military industrial complex oh we got people asking for black lives. They matter.
Starting point is 00:19:25 Well, what about more police? Huh? Yeah, exactly. Like the answer to the terrorism thing, you'd be like, change the fuck your foreign policy. And white terrorists in this country film themselves. Yeah. I mean, so many and they're on camera and they don't care. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:44 It's all on camera. Again, white privilege and supremacy, it's like having the star in Mario Brothers. I'll say that every time. These people were like, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do. Like, what's going to stop me? The law? No. Those are my brothers.
Starting point is 00:20:00 We love each other. Wow. Yeah, I mean. Zero problems between the two of us. I think most people are feeling in response to a lot of solutions that are coming out of this White House. They're just like, you're almost you're not actually not in this case. You're not even there. You're not even close. But you're trying something. I remember when Maisie Hirono and a few other AAPI lawmakers were like, you need to have somebody in your cabinet because we're looking at your numbers
Starting point is 00:20:27 and we're seeing a big goose egg for a specific group. And oh, yeah, yeah, we'll get to that. We'll get, oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, bet. We'll get to it. Like what? So, yeah, that's hard to know what will happen. But hey, man, he's getting these checks out that weren't $2,000, huh?
Starting point is 00:20:44 Yeah, where's mine? Well, you know, just a little bit of time. You know, look, Zara, we hear you. We hear you. Okay? You're heard. And as long as I say that, I don't have to offer a solution because I'm just going to say I respect what you said.
Starting point is 00:20:59 Am I going to do anything about it? No. I will say my ears are working. This shit makes me want to crawl back into my infected gallbladder with a brick of cheese and zip it up. You can't take your gallbladder with you, right? Who says? No, I'm saying like after the surgery. Oh, I didn't try. I think I asked my friend who works in oncology about things like that.
Starting point is 00:21:25 And they're like, no, typically we're not going to send you home with medical waste. Legally, they're not allowed. You're supposed to take care of that stuff. But on the low, low key, what? If you have a cool doctor or somebody who works in a hospital, you can, you can get it. Yeah. They will slip it to you and if you know somebody who works uh you know in any kind of at a hospital too you can get anybody's medical waste for the
Starting point is 00:21:52 you know if they're the homie that's gross i was nodding along and then i was like the words got caught right up to my brain i was like wait ew but yeah no because i think like the only time I see it will be like Dr. Pimple Popper. But I get that's not really. She'll be like, okay, you want this like big ass stone? I get it because that was something like inhibiting them. And it's like whatever. It's like calcified cyst or sebaceous cyst or whatever.
Starting point is 00:22:18 Man, that lady. Brilliance. Do you watch Dr. Pimple Popper? Since the YouTube days. Come on now. Yeah. It's so satisfying. satisfying really i can't watch it i'm i'm pop gang it's awful but i love it like i'm just like no no oh my god yes get it all out like everything scrape it like just push all of the nasty pus out of their face i used to go i used to be a regular on that subreddit are popping um and they
Starting point is 00:22:47 would have i'm telling you the ones that were on a fucking farm a cow's leg cyst okay i've never gotten into the animal cysts at that point at that point it just looks like somebody cut open the side of an above ground pool. Oh no! That's a visual. Yeah, but it's like a different, there's look, different strokes for different species. You know what I mean? Different pops.
Starting point is 00:23:16 Exactly, different pops for different stops. And finally, Zara, what is something that you think is underrated? Antihistamines. Oh. Oh, saviors. Go on. After my surgery, I developed a full body rash.
Starting point is 00:23:32 An FBR. Okay. An FBR. Mm-hmm. For my GSE. I don't know what the E stands for. And. Were you doing like GCSEs like the UK for your studies?
Starting point is 00:23:49 Just picking letters. Oh, I love it. So you got the rash and what the antihistamines came through? Dude, check this out. The antihistamine they gave me is an anti-anxiety medicine. Wait, they're saying that- Double trouble. It's acting both ways. It's an antihistamine and happens to also be an anti-anxiety thing.
Starting point is 00:24:06 It's a bisexual pill. Wow. It's a bisexual pill. It does two things. Just like me. Wow, it does it all. Wait, so what's it called? Can I get that?
Starting point is 00:24:17 I cannot share it over the airways. I'm trying to get off Claritin, man. Okay. It's a prescription, I'm guessing. It's called remdesivir. No, I'm kidding. Oh, shit. okay it's a it's a prescription i'm guessing remdesivir no i'm kidding oh shit okay i don't want to get in trouble no whatever you're saying you're saying it's a person you were prescribed a i was i was prescribed but just try benadryl see what happens yeah i mean don't just try to see what i'm not saying that as a show to just try to see right
Starting point is 00:24:44 right right right right, right, right. You know, but but like you can't tell I'm winking, you know, but I don't also consult your doctor. But also please consult. Please consult your medical care practitioners before experimenting with the fucking any drugs that you're not buying from me. Yeah, that's I didn't even realize like I a my dog stepped on a dead bee and it stung his paw and then his foot got all big no way yeah and i was like oh shit and we didn't know what to do and then the vet was like oh yeah you can just break him off like a eighth of a benadryl and just go like that and i was like what and i was like hey cures all and his little his little paw went down you should have seen him he was all limping and shit because his little foot got all big he
Starting point is 00:25:24 had that little sad face when he was like, I don't know what to do. It just hurts. Yeah, because at first, I didn't realize he just winced. And then he just started tap dancing because clearly that foot couldn't. I was like, what the fuck? Is he dancing? Because it really was like, I didn't know what he was doing. He's got the rhythm in him.
Starting point is 00:25:40 It got him. But we had this beehive at the spot we lived at where like because of it you know like just the nature of like where it was there would be dead bees from time to time like are strewn about the yard so like we had to like sweep a lot so look oh damn he's all right though you know and uh the bees got what they deserved to be removed humanely and then put into a proper bee colony because we were done. I love that. I love that. Dead bees?
Starting point is 00:26:07 Just like a lawn of dead bees? Yeah, it got a little morbid. You know what I mean? To see like a ton of dead bees. It kind of fucks your vibe up because then you're like reminded of like hive collapse and like the things we have with bees. On top of it, all of us were stepping on loose dead bees because I don't like wearing shoes and shit. So all that to say it solved itself. The bees are in a better place in a farm.
Starting point is 00:26:30 Literally, it's not like one of those lies when someone says they had to put the dog down. He's going to do a farm upstate. OK, let's let's take a quick break and we'll be right back and talk some news. break and we'll be right back and talk some news. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president.
Starting point is 00:27:16 One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current. Available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:27:47 I've been thinking about you. I want you back in my life. It's too late for that. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session. 24 hours.
Starting point is 00:28:05 BPM 110, 120. She's terrified. Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare.
Starting point is 00:28:21 This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this? We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams.
Starting point is 00:28:36 Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Listen to Dream Sequence on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, everyone. It's me, Katie Couric. Have you heard about my newsletter

And I would like to say the corporate prayer to the corporate overlords to try and protect this weird republic, fucked democracy called america uh because at the end of last week we were talking about you know there's only a couple ceos that were willing to speak out
Starting point is 00:31:11 against the georgia voter suppression bill uh it seems now like numbers are growing like there's now like many people who are higher up the companies have said something to the effect of we don't like it which falls very short but you know, there's a lot of other states, too, that are getting in on it who didn't who saw what happened in Georgia. And for a red state being like, well, we got to make sure that does not happen here. And that is the Lone Star State of Texas. They've put out their own bills that are going directly after people's voting rights in Texas, which already has some of the strictest voting laws in the United States. This proposed legislation grants more power to partisan poll watchers and eliminates the option to cast a ballot via drive-thru. If you remember, drive-thru voting was huge in Harris County where Houston is.
Starting point is 00:32:00 And there were about half of the people that used drive-thru voting. But guess what they might look like oh were they black and brown miles yeah uh asian pretty much non-white uh residents were using drive-thru voting yeah what do you know oh my god and it also on top of that if you want to really think about again how what it means to get medical care and how it's people are unable to even get the basics like if you need to vote by mail due to a disability they also require a doctor's note for that to happen it's not merely enough to request my doctor's note to i don't know just to the government i don't understand send it to to the on fire burning cross in front of the Capitol building. There you go. Sounds about right. That's so dumb.
Starting point is 00:32:50 What? This is like when I learned that in other countries, they just send you a tax form already filled out. And they're like, you could just sign this and send us whatever money you owe and we'll just all be happy. And the thing will be paid and we're not going to hunt down poor people. just all be happy and the thing will be paid and we're not going to hunt down poor people it is stupid it is stupid for us not to make voting easy for citizens it is stupid to believe in a proven lie that there are so many citizens that are just doubling tripling their vote that doesn't happen and beyond that like this visceral it is I watched so many civil rights movies as a child. Then they were like, oh, thank God we've overcome. Thank God this is all in our past.
Starting point is 00:33:32 Oh, we've come so far. For this kind of blatant bullshit to be happening to, like, in my time as an adult is beyond me. Like, I literally cannot process these things happening right now. Yeah, that's the, think that's the the daily fucking torment of living in this country and any kind of marginalized group uh is like the transgressions are done so out in the open without consequence that you begin to like question what morality even means or decency means because it happens at such a high level so frequently that it's the norm. And you're like, damn, like, but I know people who aren't like that. What the what the fuck is
Starting point is 00:34:09 this reflecting back to me? Yeah, just the numbers. You know, Trump only won Texas by six points, actually less than six points, which was the closest it's been since 1996, which is another reason why they're trying to slam the gates in people's faces to keep them from voting. And, you know, Republicans have shit locked in Texas, you know, from every chamber up into the governor's mansion. So this is getting a signature for sure. On the other side of that, you have people like Julian Castro and Beto O'Rourke who are rumored to be hopping in the governor's race. That's going to be happening. So that may add more fuel to the fire and have some kind of a backlash but we can't wait for elections with fucked up laws to change the fucked up election laws
Starting point is 00:34:51 that's the thing here if if we've learned anything from the civil rights act when it was passed like waiting it would be the stupidest thing we could do. It would, it would, you, cause you can't come back from it. Like it's so, or it, or you can, but that's decades, which leads to generations of like work. It is imperative, imperative that at a federal level, we stop these changes, specifically these changes that make zero sense. Like it makes no sense. If you're in the car, I can easily hand you my ID from a vehicle as I could walking into a building.
Starting point is 00:35:26 And the access that gives the disabled, the access it gives people with children who cannot stand in line for hours and just wait. There's so much you can do from your vehicle that you can't do standing in Texas in a hot line all day. It is beyond me. There's no logic or reason behind this. They're not even pretending to have good reasoning anymore. It is just so blatant. That's yeah. They're not even pretending.
Starting point is 00:35:50 It just it feels like the Republicans are the biggest cult in the United States. Yeah. It's just for years we were like, oh, they don't know. Or they're my least favorite. Like, excuse all. They're afraid the future is weird and unknown to them like how how white people cope with like black access we have to slowly ease them into these changes so that everybody's just comfortable and complacent with what's happening but it's like
Starting point is 00:36:17 like look your daughter's already doing a whip and nay-nay off the tiktok video so you know they're trying to look your daughter's trying to look black can you just please get with the program here and you're there so all of this is enraging my dog who will save us who will save us oh lord the corporations i mean look in texas a few ceos are being like yo this is up. Like the head of American Airlines that's based out there, Dell Computers, which is out there as well. I have expressed, you know, their extreme displeasure and disappointment about how it's like it takes years for people to get these rights. I think it was the head of Dell who actually articulated that it takes years for people to gain these rights. And to do this is an absolute affront to what this country
Starting point is 00:37:05 quote unquote stands for. Asterisk, asterisk, some terms and conditions. Yeah, exactly. So, you know, that's, I think the biggest thing is like, even though they have, a lot of these CEOs have made a lot of words, they're still falling short of like really raising the stakes. Like saying, if you don't fucking reverse this shit we are out of
Starting point is 00:37:28 here or we will completely cut off whatever the fuck revenue we give to this state because we can't like what the fuck are you what else what are they what other thing can they do i mean they're not going to but because like i on the one I understand, particularly in like when you look at like a delta or something, which is going to employ a ton of people across different financial backgrounds. Right. Like I don't want those folks to lose their jobs because their governor is making effed up decisions on their behalf. Like terrible, terrible decisions that will already impact them. like terrible terrible decisions that will already impact them and at the same time i understand that dollars speak louder than anything unfortunately louder than any citizen um i i really don't know what the solution is other than a federal response to this because i get your one preparations to be like hey this is dumb and you we don't stand by this but i also do i i you
Starting point is 00:38:27 know their employees need jobs especially now like that was stacy abrams point is saying don't boycott because that's going to actually affect people of color more adversely in the state of georgia like so and she's saying what really needs to do get the Senate to pass the for the people. Maybe that's the fucking option. Maybe that's how we counteract all of this nonsense. But you got Joe and fucking Joe Manchin and Biden. They don't want to get rid of the filibuster because they remember, you know, they can't just put that old racist relic down. And that's really the thing.
Starting point is 00:39:06 That's why it's doubly frustrating to know, like, yo, we're ready. We're ready to go. But it's all about this, like, well, I don't know, this old ghoulish turtle man from Kentucky is going to, he's making threats about what he'll do if he gets power. Guess what? If you pass these laws, it's going to be real fucking hard for a Republican to, to do the same shit and get voted in the same way they are.
Starting point is 00:39:29 That's why they are fighting tooth and nail. Democrats being afraid to overreach is the most exhausting thing. Are they so exhausting? I do. I do think that there is a lot of Democrats who are like, listen, we're concerned about what precedent we set by over like that or at least that's the excuse they're often presenting like like the president has been set i'm sorry
Starting point is 00:39:51 they're not yeah i i was gonna say this sounds like a precedent right no and i agree with you i agree with you but i also under i understand where they're coming from but i also find it foolish not to respond. Right. Like I understand you being like, because of who you're dealing with. And, and again, this just boils down to the fact that we have a two party system,
Starting point is 00:40:11 which is just makes for easy negligence across the board. Right. There's the idea that like, Oh no, them it's their fault. And we, what can we do? These are the rules and we have to follow them.
Starting point is 00:40:23 But like this idea that you can't, I play by the Republicans game at this point, because otherwise we're just going to keep losing. Of course. And it makes no sense for you not to use your power, power that the people gave you with the hopes that you would protect us from a whole tsunami of bullshit. Like,
Starting point is 00:40:40 well, that's two easy things. Get rid of student loan debt and make sure voters have rights. And we can we can be gravy for at least the next four years. Yeah. And you might you might actually get reelected. Not intervening with laws like this is just opening the gates to more escalation. Right.
Starting point is 00:41:00 There's more escalation because then what we're telling people is your voice doesn't matter. So then what do we do to be heard? Yeah. Turn the fuck up. Exactly. And that's where that road leads. I don't want to take to the streets no more. I'm tired.
Starting point is 00:41:14 That's what they're banking on, right? Is like all these methods of exhaustion. And then you're ground down to dust and you're like, well, fuck it. The Wi-Fi works and there's a new Netflix show. So maybe it doesn't matter if people that don't look like me in another part of the state are being absolutely trounced and their rights are being disregarded. In the game of destabilization, they are banking on us getting so tired and then turning on each other and whoever's closest to us who will hear, who will listen, who is around. Right. Does that make any sense or does that just sound no no no it totally makes sense i just want to say like i just said the point of like i just would rather set it on fire than like ask you for my rights
Starting point is 00:41:56 like i'm done like i don't want to hold the little signs anymore and try to i'm tired of educating people uh i i'm i'm exhausted i've been doing this since I was 18, and that's only so many years. Y'all don't need to know how old I am. And I know, talking to people who've been doing this, watching Bernice King's Twitter, her dad died for this, and she's still out here fighting for essentially the same rights. Yes. Because they dialed the clock back.
Starting point is 00:42:26 They're like, what the fuck? So, yeah, that's why, again, I think it's also stupid for them to think, for Democrats who are afraid of whatever they think is going to happen. Because we saw, I don't know if they were there the last four years. We saw what the fuck they're willing to do. Yeah, hello. And they did it. They did it it so now what are you scared of because the bottom line is the the way all republican legislation works is it only has to do with tax breaks and deregulation they're not interested in abortion
Starting point is 00:42:58 they do that to just get get the supporters riled up because at the end of the day whenever they try and push through shit like that or trying to fuck up other really popular policies, the poll numbers essentially keep them, prevent them from acting on it because they're like, oh, fuck it. Yeah, this is going to be bad. Let's just do this shit we can do through reconciliation
Starting point is 00:43:17 that's only going to take 50 votes, like different budget shit, budget cuts, more money for these people people less money for these people and that's it you know all the other stuff is just like they're just pump faking that's why i'm like they're pump faking now fucking swing on them man don't don't let them fucking pull their fist back meanwhile you got 60 goons behind you and they're fucking they're here for it and you're like i don't know what battle when i escalate they're like oh please i mean so many bills that are like majority citizen supported right they're getting like our polls coming back like 93 93 support 86 support and they're like well we still
Starting point is 00:43:56 have the support here and sound like well screw the senate we gotta go past those guys then like just sign it into law let's go go their expression of fear is not an expression of strategy that's the other thing say that i right i'm here to say i'm scared and that's why i have people representing me in government to take that and turn it into strategy right right it's like superman being like i don't want to fuck with doom doomsday i don't know what the fuck's gonna happen okay don't don't y'all know somebody else because i'm scared well you gotta do i'm sorry that's your role motherfucker so go up there on your chest and if you gotta die motherfucker then you die but that's the role homie do you guys think
Starting point is 00:44:41 that superman was sometimes just like smoking kryptonite oh hell yeah just to get right yeah yeah yes they called that krills back then yeah hey uh i mean i i don't know i'm curious if what what that version is where like clark kent you know he was edgy he's like yo y'all don't fucking know man you know what they call it today benadryl Oh, man. You know what they call it today? Benadryl. Superman's a wild Benadryl problem.
Starting point is 00:45:11 They're like, what are the effects? They're like, he's just really disengaged from everything. I can't really tell physically, but it's real drowsy and shit. The sinuses are clear and fantastic. Did you see when he tried to shoot the laser out his eye? The shit just went pew, just fell short after 20 feet. The saddest shit I've ever seen. Please, Clark. Oh, shit. All right. Let's talk really quick about something else that's going to be also frustrating, which is anti-vaxxers. Oh, my God. Whenever I hear the word vaccine, you know, my hair stand up on my neck because I always brace myself to hear some ridiculous pseudoscientific take. And at first, you know, it was the whole thing was like, well, they cause autism. And then you say, I don't know. Are you aware that the study that you all point to was written by someone who was developing a vaccine that was competing with the established ones? And that was meant to do that. So he could be like, well, I got this other one that doesn't. ones and that was meant to do that so he could be like well i got this other one that doesn't and then the the uh the journal the medical journal that published it had to retract it
Starting point is 00:46:09 and almost set themselves the building on fire like yo we fucked up published we're so sorry we should have never done that shit that shit is bullshit so sorry this is not real do not refer to this as any something of any legitimate research and then you know pivoted away from that now it's words like vaccine injury and what you know like a lot of the times there's a lot of anecdotal evidence like well we don't have vaccines or i don't use science mech like medicine and i'm fine i'm using this that and the other thing and i'm okay you know without for a second questioning whether or not they might just be genetically at an advantage rather than them sort of being like, no, actually, I'm so galaxy brained that I figured out how to sidestep accepted science to be
Starting point is 00:46:52 healthy. Can you know, even though it's all shit that you cooked up on the Internet? OK, well, now we have covid vaccines and the grifters or believers. I don't know. Sometimes it's hard to tell when someone's making money off of anti-vaccxxer. I'm like, that's a, you're just taking advantage of people who are very gullible. And the CBC has exposed this one woman, Sherry, Sherry Tenpenny, not that they've exposed her. She's a very out there anti-vaxxer and osteopath, but now has a six week digital boot camp or it's called mastering vaccine info and uh for 623 dollars what a price i don't know where the fuck i don't know if that's like some numerology shit i was gonna say why six two i don't know i have no clue you can basically learn with this money with this information you will learn how to engage in the fight to put immunocompromised communities at risk.
Starting point is 00:47:48 Right. So this is some of the things that they were saying, like of like what the, you know, the vibe is of this boot camp. She says, quote, You're in our choir. It's those who are on the fence who need to hear the message. My job is to teach the 400 of you in the class so each of you can go out and teach 1,000 people. And I want you to practice
Starting point is 00:48:12 these tactics in front of Amir. Should you take an acting class and just adapt it for anti-vaxxers? Oh yeah. And then she also says, my job and your job and everybody else who does this, their job is to sow seeds. We're going to build an entire army to stand up and say not only no, but hell no.
Starting point is 00:48:33 What is their obsession with the army? Listen, one, we don't need it. We do not need neither a prayer army nor an anti-vaxxer army to come and tell us how to live our lives healthily. That's why we have doctors and scientists. Yeah. They're there doing all the work. I mean, she does believe, though, that COVID can be fought with vitamins and vibes. Good vibes.
Starting point is 00:48:56 Yeah. While her husband is also part of the boot camp, he's basically, on what they're talking about, using straight-up pickup artist tactics of neuro-linguistic programming linguistic programming to i guess neg someone into being anti-vax um this is what her husband says quote understanding the subjective human experience and how each individual stores their version of information is key to unlocking their mind and building trust and successfully affecting change with them so then he goes, he's like encouraging the students to recognize what type of persuasion tactic is going to be the most effective based on the person they're talking to. Now, look, I've anyone who's done organizing, you learn some level on how to create common
Starting point is 00:49:36 ground or at the very least how to bridge gaps with. Yeah. You start by saying, I hear you. Yeah. Uh huh. I respect you. I don't have a plan, though. you. Yeah. I respect you. I don't have a plan, though. I'm joking. I'm afraid.
Starting point is 00:49:48 Thank you. I'm scared. I gotta go. And I'm afraid what Mitch McConnell will do. Yeah. So, no. So, in a way, I'm like, okay, there's that level, but not to this point. So, he basically will slot the people that they would be speaking to into four categories
Starting point is 00:50:03 and then present strategies for each and like they they have a workbook where it's like the weirdest back and forth skit where like a person's like you're not really telling me enough information they're like yeah well what else do you need to see and it's like what went wrong here were they using the wrong model is the cover of the workbook a pyramid yeah actually why oh i just i was looking for books to color while somebody unlocked my brain in a multi-level way yeah multi-level multi-tiered way what's wild is i specifically wrote down that i wanted to give them 623 dollars right it's like they knew now all this is like, look, I understand people being skeptical, but white Americans that are anti-vax don't realize just how bad their privilege has duped them into thinking they don't need medicine. Like off the rip. White Americans enjoy the benefits of medical and scientific advancements in a way other demographics do not look at the life expectancy it's not
Starting point is 00:51:07 because we're built different we die sooner it's because there's an utter lack of resources being put into those communities yes look at tuskegee right i mean you look at tuskegee but you can also look at like just the like even beyond like financial or or access to you have an entire community that has been taught for years to disregard the actual pain of their some of their patients because of the color of their skin right like it is or or or because of what's between their legs like the way women's pain is just brushed off as not being important or as them overreacting i read about a woman who died of endometriosis complaining about pain for years years and they were like oh it's period pain you just got to get through that that's all it is
Starting point is 00:51:59 it a racist doctor nearly killed my brother yeah when. When my brother was 15, he had pain in his hip. My mom's an x-ray technician and an ultrasound sonographer. She took him into the doctor and he said, you know what? I know your people. You treat your sons like princes. He cries because he's spoiled. Shit. That's what he said.
Starting point is 00:52:20 And my mom had to take him to the ER the children's hospital er to get him the necessary tests everybody including specialists said which they had to pay out of pocket for said he needs care immediately and this doctor said why'd you go over my head and made my parents wait outside in the parking lot with a security guard i'm really sorry that happened to your family that's extremely scary i went through a similar thing where i was nearly paralyzed because i had a herniated disc in my spine and they even after an mri which showed the herniation they were like oh a cortisone shot that's all you need luckily i had a nurse practitioner who came in asked me a bunch
Starting point is 00:53:02 of questions she's like i think you need surgery now she hadn't touched me she just asked me a couple questions like i think you need to go to surgery now and they're like oh yeah if we had given you that cortisone shot you'd have been paralyzed right if we had waited a day longer you'd have been paralyzed it is absolutely insane trying to like get medical help in this stupid country it's so frustrating and for people to then go and be like i'm just going to not get a shot that is often just required for you to exist in society for very obvious reasons. Like, go read about any of like polio, the play, like just how it inhibited so many people's lives. Actually, you're a shill for big pharma, actually. That's the thing you don't understand.
Starting point is 00:53:41 Big pharma is so evil. Therefore, everything that happens in science is bad because big pharma that's what that's what you're gonna get hit with and and okay and see you yourself even pointed to definitely yourself even pointed to examples of how the medical community was doing experiments on your own people you know what i mean so how could you stress like hold up that's not for you to tell me where how I want to first of all, nope. And I just want to say this again, black Americans can point to a legacy of medical experimentation and torture that would fuel hesitancy. I'm not saying it's justified, but that is part of the history in this country. But even when white anti-vaxxers or, you know, high income anti-vaxxers, they'll point to
Starting point is 00:54:23 communities of color and be like, they have low vaccination rates, but completely miss the part where a lack of resources creates an information desert that is only exacerbated by systemic oppression. It's not because they're like, oh yeah, they get it, or what's going on over there.
Starting point is 00:54:37 No, really look at what the fuck it looks like because I think a lot of high-income or white anti-vaxxers, this is like a form of agency for them without having the objectivity about what the entire situation is within the medical industry the country they reside in or even genetics and to even take a closer look because i think the mass media also has a hand in this just because it's it's sort of turned this into a us versus them you're anti-vax or not. And it completely, there's zero nuance, especially as it pertains to race.
Starting point is 00:55:08 But anti-vaxxers should also look, you know, you look at these PBEs, public belief exemptions, where people get together and they say, I have a PBE. So that's why we are not vaccinated as a family. There's a lot of studies that show they're like these high concentrations of public belief exemptions. The racial homogeneity is also just a huge part of it as well. And so these are people are, you know, obviously protecting themselves mentally, visually or whatever to sort of keep from really thinking more about it. But it's like at some point these people have to come to the table and there has to be there has to be a reckoning with this kind of thinking, because there was that documentary about flat earthers. And there was like this whole group of like astrophysicist astronomers and shit who are just like, what the fuck are we going to do?
Starting point is 00:55:57 And while there was a ton of people who were like, how the fuck could they not believe us? Have they done this shit? I've been fucking working out and blah blah blah a lot of people like you know we have to figure out a way to bridge this gap because at the end of the day even though they are misguided they are interested in science on some level they are interested in well-being on some oh interesting but they're but that has to begin the thing because it's like anything's like racist too and i don't know how much you get help save a racist but or any sort of ignorant discriminatory person they start hearing things like oh so i'm bad immediately they're going to shut the shop up good luck trying to communicate right um and with something like this that we're like we need you know like more than
Starting point is 00:56:39 anything you could be racist stay in your fucking house and just don't bother anyone but if you're out here contributing to the transmission of illnesses and things like that that's a whole other game and you're more than likely as a like a high income anti-vaxxer if you got sick you could go to a fucking doctor and most likely pull through but a person of color that you might unwittingly be transmitting a disease to they don't have the same option so don't act like you're saving anybody anyway so pay your 623 some to them to be able to say i have a choice to say no to this i wonder if it this makes me curious about the difference between agency and entitlement.
Starting point is 00:57:25 Sure. And I'm sure those blinds blur. Right, because in the United States, individualism starts to become propaganda. And I don't know that it's agency to say, I don't want the vaccine. I feel like agency is the ability- Perceived agency. Yeah, because real agency in that kind of an instance is to be able to rely on experts to inform you appropriately with facts and figures that you can look to and point to clearly and say yes.
Starting point is 00:57:56 It's my informed decision based on what I have the information. Exactly. Because then otherwise agency is us doing the like us farming, us going out and doing the research, us, you know, everything's self-driven. They're doing it for whatever reason they've ingrained in themselves or had ingrained in them the idea that the information you're being given is incorrect. Right. And there's an entire conspiracy to keep the truth from you. There's an entire conspiracy to keep the truth from you. And so their their thoughts on on getting vaccinated or not getting vaccinated is I've done the research. This is not only unnecessary, but potentially harmful to me or my children.
Starting point is 00:58:40 And like, how do you and I think that's what's sort of horrifying. I don't know how to bridge that gap. I don't know how to get you to trust. Exactly. The whole thing is believing that these people are lying to you. I think at the end, it boils down to a fear that I don't want anything to go wrong with my child. Fucking anything. So if I can, if there's even a chance of that, even though the medical science is saying that's a positive, I've I saw two things that said it couldn't be be and i don't want that at all to happen to my child it's like that and then and then it morphs into this whole other thing um and then this is where yeah the game among us i feel is so important
Starting point is 00:59:16 it is de-radicalization right of six two three exactly six hundred twenty three dollars yo Right. Of 623. Exactly. $623. Yo, yellow looks sus as fuck right now. Oh, no. Let's take a quick break. Let's take a breather. And we'll be right back. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts, separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks.
Starting point is 00:59:56 President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of this right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife
Starting point is 01:00:16 working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current, available now with new episodes every Thursday. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I've been thinking about you. Starting point is 01:00:44 I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. One session. 24 hours. BPM 110. 120. She's terrified.
Starting point is 01:01:00 Should we wake her up? Absolutely not. What was that? You didn't figure it out? I think I need to hear you say it. That was live audio of a woman's nightmare. This machine is approved and everything? You're allowed to be doing this?
Starting point is 01:01:15 We passed the review board a year ago. We're not hurting people. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams. There's nothing dangerous about what you're doing. They're just dreams. Dream Sequence is a new horror thriller from Blumhouse Television, iHeartRadio, and Realm. Sure, totally normal humans. Embark on a journey across the stars, discovering the wonders of the universe one episode at a time.
Starting point is 01:02:00 We'll talk about life, love, laughter, and why you should never argue with your co-pilot. Especially when she's always right. Right. And if we hit turbulence, just blame it on Mercury retrograde. Or Emily's questionable space piloting skills. Hey! Listen to In Our Own World as a part of the My Cultura podcast network available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And don't worry, we promise to avoid any black holes. Most of the time.
Starting point is 01:02:35 It was December 2019 when the story blew up. In Green Bay, Wisconsin, former Packers star Kabir Bajabiamila caught up in a bizarre situation. KGB explaining what he believes led to the arrest of his friends at a children's Christmas play. A family man, former NFL player, devout Christian, now cut off from his family and connected to a strange arrest. I am going to share my journey of how I went from Christianity to now a Hebrew Israelite. I got swept up in Kabir's journey, but this was only the beginning. In a story about faith and football, the search for meaning away from the gridiron,
Starting point is 01:03:15 and the consequences for everyone involved. You mix homesteading with guns and church, and a little bit of the spice of conspiracy theories that we liked. Voila! You got straight away. I felt like i was living in north korea but worse if that's possible listen to spiraled on the iheart radio app apple podcasts or wherever you get your podcasts and we're back it's uh look it's mond it's Monday. You know what that means. It's time for some hip hop from Andrew Yang running for mayor in a wide open New York race. No.
Starting point is 01:03:56 You know, whether it's like bodega tours or subway rides, he is inextricably linking himself to the New York visual aesthetic. And, you know, I get it. linking himself to the New York visual aesthetic. And, you know, I get it. You're trying to win points with New Yorkers. But until I see you twist up a blunt one handed underneath a bubble jacket in the middle of winter with Tim's on, I don't know if we can fully give you that title. But he has enlisted the services of one MC Jin to release a new rap song. I just want to say before I play the song,
Starting point is 01:04:25 MC Jin, I remember him. Some of you might remember him too. He was on 106 and Park in the early 2000s when they had these freestyle battles for a contract to sign with Rough Riders. MC Jin is a Chinese American MC and he was fucking crazy.
Starting point is 01:04:41 He just, he laid waste to the entire field and it was like an easy decision. You're like, yo, this dude is nice and he has bars. Well, and a rough rider chain i was like yeah go mc jen look at you please um and so i was like okay that makes sense i guess because maybe andrew yang is like here's another asian american that will help me do some rap stuff i want to just play a little bit of this track. Because it's something.
Starting point is 01:05:06 Oh, okay. It starts off with MC Jin. It's like a POV thing where he's like, yo, you like hip hop? And he's like hawking his CD type of thing. And then here we go. That gang, that gang, that gang, that gang right here. Okay, come on. Let's get to the verse now here's your hook okay okay just had to double down on the chorus one more time okay give him the hook one more time i really want you to vote okay
Starting point is 01:05:36 time to do the right thing tell them of the campaigns that yang gang has arrived when they see us they'd be yeah, that's a vibe. No, no, no, no. Listen, why do we keep trying this? This has been an aim of politicians since like the 80s of like, I'm going to speak to the children in their language. And we're going to connect. We're going to get because i get the young people's music you don't and it's okay i'm a full 30 now and it's past me okay i can't i can only say
Starting point is 01:06:10 i appreciate beyonce and move forward with my life all right it's weird i think it's weird to try to rap and get with the kid this is a terrible strategy and why do we keep doing it who when has this worked no ever. Ever. Campaign, official campaign music is, I, again, send me one example of something
Starting point is 01:06:30 that was made for the campaign and you're like, yo, okay, you're right. That is a banger. It doesn't happen.
Starting point is 01:06:38 Okay, fine. I will throw my album in the trash, guys. Thanks. I mean, like, yeah, I don't know. Also even because like look jen is he's a rapper uh you know like he's falling off but he he has the skills on mike but it just sucks though because like how are you gonna spit fever bars when you gotta rhyme shit with universal basic
Starting point is 01:07:00 income you're not talib quali maybe talib could do that i don't know about you mc jen just i know you as more like a gutter new york rapper but i get it i would say it should have been y to the is a and to the jizzle that's the yank them get your damn hands up there you go see they should have hired me they yanked themum? Yeah. You just solved it for them. You really. Yankthum. I just like the word Yankthum. I think you're forced to. That's the Yankthum. I don't know if this is much better.
Starting point is 01:07:34 I'm just saying it makes me laugh. This other one doesn't because it makes me cringe because they're trying to be hard about a political candidate. Right. It was the same thing remember when i forget who they were doing like the that like weird and like they had those battle rappers take on the two sides of like uh someone who's voting for biden and then another black man who was on the fence and maybe was gonna vote for listen i'm glad i missed whatever that was oh my god it was like hey brother i know you think that uh it was just like and it was like offbeat late 80s early 90s rap
Starting point is 01:08:06 it was acapella with like actual people who are like battle rappers but it's a check you know what I mean yeah sure pay the battle rappers cause you know I'm sure their gigs have been few and far in between
Starting point is 01:08:21 but also maybe just write a good op-ed or something. I was going to say. Hop on a podcast. Maybe have a strategy. The beat feels nice. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It was good. It hit.
Starting point is 01:08:39 But it's just not a good song in general. You can't rap. And there's nothing you could have done to make it a good song. There's no amount of creativity that would have had even like damn y'all heard that yang track fire oh you mean the yank them international players yank them okay that one got me oh that might that might be interesting wow wow with like a spoken word only if you get andre and big yeah no no no it can't be no don't don't don't make them disrespect themselves it has to be yeah so
Starting point is 01:09:12 empowering assimilate to prevent hate okay i that's all i've got i've got a druid beat a druid beat that's it yeah all right oh man all right one uh one more story uh let's talk a little bit about google maps oh god they're adding like new well just they're adding new features that truly they're acknowledging that we live in a fucked up world because the pandemic has already changed so many things not like super fucked up but you know it in a fucked up world because the pandemic has already changed so many things. Not like super fucked up, but you know, in a way that it's tipping their hat to like, it's not all sunshine and rainbows all the time. Like, first of all,
Starting point is 01:09:54 because grocery shopping is so different, they're adding new ways to do groceries or, you know, they can build into the app like how to efficiently pick up your groceries and things like that. It said, you can soon receive much more thorough and specific information, including delivery providers,
Starting point is 01:10:10 pickup and delivery windows, order minimums and fees, all within the map. So if you're in Google Maps, like, oh, fuck, I need to get groceries. Whatever. Where am I at? Am I near something? Further, if you're like, they're a couple, they're testing it with a couple Kroger or Fred Meyer locations in Portland.
Starting point is 01:10:32 They'll notify you when it's time to leave for your pickup based on traffic and give the signal to the store that you're going to be there shortly. So they can be like, like just with it on the double. OK, fine. Whatever. That's a slight optimization. What about that other thing like climate change and wildfires and air quality? So they're also going to pull data from the weather company, a few air quality sort of databases to show your map. You can add a layer to see how bad the air quality is in your given area.
Starting point is 01:10:56 And that way you can figure out maybe you want to walk a different way, walk somewhere else, bike through a different part of the town. You can do that. Oh, that's nice because i don't want anything about my air to change i just want to know do i need to turn the corner because i can't breathe it oh i don't want to breathe this one okay okay um and then lastly this is actually kind of interesting is trying to optimize driving routes based on carbon emissions which first of all i get it's nice
Starting point is 01:11:25 because i mean like at the end of the day it's on fucking corporations to sort out the carbon emissions not us to see where i'm driving my mazda to get fucking blunts but i see what you're doing but i think it's nice because most people are becoming more considerate not that we entirely feel the responsibilities on us but just in general as considerate humans who are acknowledging the global community we're like yeah i don't i want to be a little bit more aware so what they're trying to do now is like it's with the department of energy uh-oh uh national renewable energy lab they're gonna see like whatever your default route is to somewhere they're gonna make sure it's the one with the smallest carbon footprint um so like as compared to like an eta and everything so
Starting point is 01:12:06 it'll take into account things like fuel consumption road incline traffic congestion um but if if you're not if you're on some like fuck the earth shit you can just opt out i was gonna say that seems like a little switch of a button thing which almost everyone will at least in this city it's gonna opt right out of because uh as much as we claim to love the land, I'm not doing an extra 20 minutes trying to get to Hollywood. Do you guys remember back early pandemic when no one drove for two, like, and then it all reversed and dolphins were in Echo Park? You remember that? Yep. That nature was healing itself again.
Starting point is 01:12:44 The dolphins have returned to echo park lake it took two weeks yeah they came up the labrea tar pits the salmon yeah the salmon have returned to macarthur park lake at the start of the pandemic i lived at a major intersection across the street from a um like a box store and it was really weird because you used to see like traffic would start at like 730 on the dot. It's horns honking it's just constant cars it's the rumble of engines
Starting point is 01:13:13 People trying to get into that McDonald's on the corner Exactly, exactly. And then all of a sudden it was just quiet the birds came back chirping and stuff. It was bizarre and then of course like two weeks after that, it was just sirens. So, you know. You guys want to hear something wild for my conspiracy friends?
Starting point is 01:13:33 Here we go. Oh, conspiracy time? Here we go. I mean, my conspiracies are always like, so guess what? Yeah. One of those TED Talks might work. Okay. Low stakes. I like it. I like it. What's hitting me withs might work. Okay, low stakes.
Starting point is 01:13:45 I like it. I like it. What's hit me with it? Okay. Last year, Google announced that they would not be opening up their in-person facilities until July of 2020, 2021. And that's when everything's opening back up again. And they have access to, like, the world's largest database. Again, this is going to be a really disappointing conspiracy because it's just basic math.
Starting point is 01:14:14 Yeah, yeah. But, I mean, for me, whenever folks are like, where's this going and what are we going to do? I just, like, look to see what google's decided to implement right because they just like quietly just like you know right everybody's numbers say so yeah but you know like what do we know but this was like last year this was last year when people were like what do you mean stuff won't open up till october come on that's ridiculous oh yeah i don't know we're just kind of looking at all of the Earth's data.
Starting point is 01:14:46 Exactly. Oh, yeah, that was just something we do in Gmail. It's nothing about we're predicting some kind of global conflict. Or are we? 6, 2, 3. 6, 2, 3. $623 for that. So if someone knows a significance of $623,
Starting point is 01:15:06 please let me know. I think it's 89 times seven. But other than that, don't have much else to add to that. All right. Well, Zara, thank you so much for joining us and sprinkling a little bit of conspiracy upon our brains today.
Starting point is 01:15:18 Oh my God. You're so welcome. I'm so glad to hear you're doing well. Wasn't aware, but so glad you're pulling through. Where can people find you, follow you, send you blocks of cheese or box wine? I don't know. Yes.
Starting point is 01:15:29 Yo, go to my website. Get on my mailer. I've got a comedy special coming soon. How soon? Oh, man. In like a matter of like months, like a couple months. Oh, shit. And you taped it already?
Starting point is 01:15:42 Yeah. Yeah. I taped it in 2019 as my theatrical premiere. And then I went, you know what? Maybe I'm just going to edit this and put this out there. There you go. Dope. Because it's pretty great. And I've also got a report coming out as an Innovations Fellow with the Opportunity Agenda on Artist Safety and Resilience Practices. Awesome. Yes. And what was your website?
Starting point is 01:16:09 Zara, Z-A-H-R-A, comedy, C-O-M-E-D-Y dot com. There we go. And what's a tweet that you're liking, Zara? Okay, this is a bit old because it's from like last week. Mm-hmm. But the Brits just crack me up. This one's from Socialist Dog Mom on Twitter who wrote, going down to the Chippy to get some gribbles and scrumps. England isn't a real place.
Starting point is 01:16:42 What was that? Scrumps? What the fuck are scrumps? Chibbles. Chibbles and scrumps i'm gonna guess shrimp and chips uh all right that's your bet let's see chibbles and scrumps uh sounds like chips or pork rinds to me i don't know i don't even know man i can't even find what's a chibble sisters was chibbles or spring or salad onions. What? Look, you can't.
Starting point is 01:17:10 Zyte gang or Irish or wherever these words get to come. Let us know what the fuck is chibbles and scrumps. Is it tasty vittles? I don't know. Who knows? Okay. Joelle, thank you so much for just dragging me across the finish line. Being here, entertaining my terrible jokes.
Starting point is 01:17:31 When Marcella was just ripping my head off before we went on air, it's like, don't that sound funny, Miles? Are you sure you want to do this? Marcella is my queen. I know, and I'm like, no, I'm good. No, no, I workshopped it. I think we'll be okay. Oh my God, you know.
Starting point is 01:17:43 It's great to be back. I love your fans. I love this show. So it was an honor to steal a line from Daniel. Where can people find you, follow you, honor you, send you Starbucks gift cards, send you Tribbles and Scrumps. I haven't been to Starbucks in so long. Please send me a Starbucks gift card.
Starting point is 01:18:01 You can find me all over the internet at Joelle Monique. It's J-O-E-L-L-E-m-o-n-i-q-u-e uh my tweet is it's a chain of tweets but i have to explain it we have to go back and digest to get to the punchline here so lord morgaine on february 27 tweeted you just had to be there with a bunch of pictures of paramour the iconic band mostly featuring hayley to which someone responded she was the paramour they were the pips and i was like i love it i love it a vibe so then someone else galaxy underscore barbie great name not a great tweet tweeted bunch of cucks getting bossed around by a tiny hot topic bitch lmao they say they broke up because
Starting point is 01:18:42 she acted like a diva and it killed her career. Patti LaBelle could do it because she was Patti LaBelle. After three to four songs, we heard everything HW could do. Flyleaf was the real shit. There's a lot to break down in there. We don't have time for all of that, but Hailey responded, maybe I should change my bio to tiny hot topic bitch. To then hot
Starting point is 01:18:59 topic, released a t-shirt that just says tiny hot topic bitch with a giant picture of hayley on the back it crashed the site this morning oh i love a twitter saga turned actual real life merch it's my favorite thing because only the thousand people that were on twitter at that moment are gonna get it yeah it's brilliant and beautiful it's a thing that when it catches your eye in the real world you're like oh i was there i saw it and it happened and i'm just i'm so excited that hayley remains as prevalent as ever we bow down to the goddess we got back-to-back hayley mentions out
Starting point is 01:19:30 and we could get a third okay i know i'm ready hey i used to kill that shit on guitar hero i low-key i will fuck up the paramore songs on guitar i loved them they're great anyway but that's enough about me let's see some tweets that i like let's see the first one is from alan uh sharestool uh at stud studies and crap uh tweets saw a dude arguing that amtrak should not expand its service because it quote loses money on many routes end quote so please remember that essential public infrastructure should not be run like the sunglass hut. Yes, 100 percent. Afro slim underscore tweets. My clubhouse app just be sitting there collecting dust. Yes. Yes. I'm trying. I'm trying. I'm trying. I'm bored. These are not properly curated conversations. As someone who frequently attends conventions, get yourself a panel of no more than five. It's chaotic after that. Please curate your questions and have the conversation lead somewhere. When you take Q&As, give strict rules to your audience and limit their time. We have to keep it moving. Y'all are just blabbering about nothing. There's factually incorrect information. It's a mess. It's a hot mess. Man, every time, if I have to see another notification that Bomani X and Swizz Beatz are about to talk NFTs, I'm deleting it.
Starting point is 01:20:52 That's why I just got to be like, I think more than like a place, it's more like a thing for you to use with friends than trying to make it like, I don't know. Look, I'm old. What the fuck do I know? Prove me wrong, youth. Okay, show me how it's supposed to be used because i don't get it i'm also i'm also gonna just take that recommendation and rip it as my new ringtone yeah right this panel is chaos oh man trayvon at trayvon he's quote tweeting someone at alex said is twitter down for y'all and trayvon free uh quote tweet and said i've never really
Starting point is 01:21:26 asked it to do anything for me that would test this loyalty so i'm not entirely sure it's not twitter is not down for anybody okay just so y'all know uh i have so many i'm sorry this is what i gotta do at richie craven. In fairness to Jesus, because Easter just happened. In fairness to Jesus, one of you will betray me is a great dinner party conversation opener. And then Chris Garcia at underscore Chris Garcia. Meanest prank I've ever pulled. When I lived in SF, I called a fellow local comedian at his work, a Chevy's restaurant, told him I was an exec from Comedy
Starting point is 01:22:08 Central, and asked if he wanted to fly down to Los Angeles and work at the Chevy's there. I'm so good. Oh, fuck. You can find me on Twitter and Instagram at MilesOfGrey. Shit, I'm even on PlayStation Network with that one.
