And this season, we're taking an even bigger bite out of the most delicious food and its history. Saying that the most popular cocktail is
Starting point is 00:01:51 the margarita, followed by the mojito from Cuba, and the piñocola from Puerto Rico. Listen to Hungry for History on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of Pirates of the Caribbean Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. That's a joke we stole from Zach last week. And yeah, still using it.
Starting point is 00:02:34 Also, September 9th, 9-9, never forget the Dreamcast launch in 9-9-99. For all the game gods out there, we remember. I didn't get one, so fuck Dreamcast. I'm Jack O'Brien. That's Miles Gray. This is What is Trending. Miles, welcome back this is gonna thank you thank you people thank you for having me back i know i had to beg and plead because i wronged you yeah it was i think i think we all made the right decision any good fanfic about our conflict that you read while you were away no just the ones i
Starting point is 00:03:01 was writing and seeding as anonymous posts in the subreddit. But yeah, pretty cool. All right. So Odell Beckham Jr. is trending across the internet. LSU alum, great receiver. Yep. Some of the best highlight worthy catches in the history of football. Just one hand in those kickoffs out of the air um and what what why is he trending why are you making me do that part
Starting point is 00:03:33 so okay so he's trending everyone goes oh what the fuck is odell beckham jr trending for like number two on google like what is going on? Apparently, somebody was on a podcast called the Thoughts Next Door podcast and in which this woman alleges that he seems to have a proclivity for scatological sex stuff. Like he specifically, she said he likes to get shitted on
Starting point is 00:04:04 and then was saying all this other stuff. So, she said he likes to get shitted on. And then was saying all this other stuff. So I don't know. He responded with a picture of him in practice and it was something kind of acknowledging. It was like, nobody can mess up my pivot no matter what shit's thrown my way. And I was kind of like, oh, funny. I don't know, whatever.
Starting point is 00:04:20 I mean, this is definitely of the reasons that somebody can be trending. I am fully on board with this as long as, you know, it's consenting adults. More power. And you can't get sick? Let us know.
Starting point is 00:04:36 Yeah, I actually don't know. What if it's your own? What if it's your own? You can't get sick then, right? I can do a somersault. it's uh what if it's wrong you can't get sick then right i do a somersault let's on some laxatives what uh there's the similar rumors about other celebrities i was i was totally happy to see this is why he was trending because uh yeah a lot of people are like is this real is this some clout chaser stuff where you just say something really incendiary and salacious just to get a bump in the metrics, which they clearly have done?
Starting point is 00:05:12 So, cool. It's still, this isn't as weird to me as on, what was it, Beauty and the Beast, that one podcast where the dude was talking about how he shit in his hand and then put it in the toilet. And that, to me, was the most alarming poop-based Twitter trend I think I have seen. Right. Well, that was incredible. We covered that on an old episode of Zeitgeist, but it was basically he was like,
Starting point is 00:05:39 why do people talk about it like splashing? And they were like, do you guys just poop directly into the water? That's weird. And then everybody, I think that was, like, I think they were just next level playing 4D chess because you really got the sense.
Starting point is 00:05:57 It felt like a good troll. Yeah. You really got the sense that he was, he thought you had to poop into your hand before. Yeah. Well, you put a paper towel, like a hand nest, and then you drop it in.
Starting point is 00:06:07 And I just love the woman's reaction. She's like, bro, you shit me in your hand, bro? Real or not, for that alone, I will salute them. Yeah, yeah. Shout out to OBJ. Trump voters are trending. Trump voters? Trump boaters.
Starting point is 00:06:24 I'm sorry. Oh, because of the... Were there boat parties again? Boaters are trending. Trump voters? Trump boaters. I'm sorry. Oh, because of the... There's boat parties again? Yeah, there were boat parties over the weekend. And once again, this seems to be a trend. Boats were sunk. Multiple boats this time sank in rivers and lakes. And I guess what happens is too many boats in the same location.
Starting point is 00:06:47 Too many, too much wakes? Too much wakes. Much like their fearless leader himself to making a lot of wakes. And it causes people who aren't experienced boaters to not know what to do. I guess it might not be their fault it might be the people who are creating the wakes that are um yeah i wonder if there are people who are like veteran boaters who are like all right i'll put a trump flag up and they think i'm like part of this thing i'm just gonna create and just an uncontrollable wake me and five other
Starting point is 00:07:21 guys but i don't i don't know the first thing about boating but the photos like were just i the only thing i had known was just that one photo of that family like just surrounded by waves and they're like with all the trump regalia trump flag like yeah up out of the water that was the only thing i saw and i was like oh don't i don't really need to know much more about that i think that says it all. Yeah. Sometimes reality invents or draws political cartoons. You just have to step back and applaud. Yeah. So I don't know. The whole Trump voters thing is kind of strange that that has been the way that people have decided to express their support for him this time
Starting point is 00:08:08 around yeah but um i think because they saw like it's like if it's people in the streets they clearly haven't been able to organize that kind of movement so it's always like hey let's drive from simi valley to la and like drive through the streets like we're from this part of town or it's easy to be like, hey, everyone's on their boats anyway. What if we just put our flags up and do that? And then it'll look like a massively organized thing. Not to say that these people
Starting point is 00:08:36 aren't organized and energetic, but I think it just seems easier. They're like, in the Venn diagram, there's a good overlap between the boat people and the Trump supporters. I will say that there is one very significant and important way they're not well organized, and that is in not being prepared to not sink each other's boats. Well, it's very, look, one thing we've realized is that these people will do anything in pursuit of maintaining the status quo of you know racism and like white supremacy so yeah why would you think you're like nah man we're gonna show them with boats that how serious we are
Starting point is 00:09:10 about racism nothing says that you're relatable man of the people person of the people more than being on a boat oh hell yeah yeah or a motor yacht yeah motor yacht um travis scott is trending speaking of relatable man of the people yeah uh he has a new mcdonald's uh promotion i guess it's it's interesting i don't think we've seen this quite before where a celebrity uh in this case travis Scott, has just told us what his favorite meal is at McDonald's and you can now order it. Yeah. Cool. For $6. Apparently, this is all part of a thing McDonald's is doing.
Starting point is 00:09:55 As they say, they're trying to boost their leeway with millennial and Gen Z consumers. So I think there's nothing better than being like, hey, I'm Travis Scott. Get this quarter pounder. Straight up. Okay. Cool. so i think there's nothing better than being like hey i'm travis scott get this quarter pounder okay cool i will get that now because travis scott is our thought leader also that tenant trailer with his track on it is trash i'm sorry i can't that completely fucked up the final tenant trailer like there's a version that has the travis scott track playing over it versus like travis scott is it it's a new track i think he made track playing over it versus like Travis Scott. Is it? It's a new track. I think he made,
Starting point is 00:10:26 you know, like they're going old school or like they have like a featured track by like the art, the biggest artists of the day making a track for tenant. And they credit to his team because they basically said for this final trailer, you will cut it to this song and everyone will know that I have a better representation than Warner brothers does to push back on something like this.
Starting point is 00:10:46 But the meal is not... I don't know. I think initially you were like, oh, what toy do you get? And I was like, Jack, this is just... It's basically Travis Scott's order. If you want the Cactus Jack meal, it's just a $6 quarter pounder meal with bacon, lettuce,
Starting point is 00:11:02 barbecue sauce, fries, and a Sprite. Boom. Straight up! And McDonald's employees... The fries come with barbecue quarter pounder meal with bacon lettuce barbecue sauce fries and a sprite boom straight up and mcdonald's employees come with barbecue sauce yes uh but that's important one cool thing is the employees will get uh travis scott cactus jack t-shirts and hats which i can already see that probably selling for a lot on stock x on stock yep Miles does a point at the sky every time. I have to. It just feels good when you have to hit him with a Travis. Straight up!
Starting point is 00:11:29 You know, you got to just put your finger in the air. Was there a celebrity you would have bought their McDonald's meal? Like if, okay, so let's put yourself in the mindset of how old these people are. So like if you're 16 to 30 yeah who is the meal we have to go back you know into the late 90s early odds like who what are we who is that like i sadly i probably would have bought uh like a jay-z like black album i think wu-tang forever like when that album came out i would have probably like that yeah i would have bought that like especially if each member had their own unique meal like the ghost face you know what would have been amazing
Starting point is 00:12:11 is with like the mcrib came back and the gravel pit video because it was like flintstone shit oh yeah and they're like eating big ass like mcribs and shit oh shit okay yeah yeah wu-tang would have done it for me in terms of a musician jay-z probably uh most def wouldn't have done it at the time because he was too underground but i would have got the most def meal uh cool yeah but i guess that's uh they said this is like he's the second celebrity to have their uh combo at McDonald's. So I don't know who the first person was. So unfortunately. Sorry about that.
Starting point is 00:12:51 Wish I'd done some more research, y'all, but I don't know. Well, Peloton is also trending because they are releasing a new treadmill. Is that right? New treadmill. Seen this? You heard about this? You said you You seen this? You heard about this? You said you seen this? New bike?
Starting point is 00:13:07 Okay. Yeah, I could, like I run on the treadmill every once in a while, brag. So I could see myself getting into this. Like I'm not a big
Starting point is 00:13:15 sitting on a bike, pedaling away, just feeling one, like part of my leg burn really bad type of exerciser. So I could, I could see somebody yelling at me while I run. Yeah. I mean, they're trying to make it more, I guess, cost. So essentially,
Starting point is 00:13:34 the treadmill becomes cheaper than the one they have. And then they've also offered a more expensive bike. So that means- Good. That's actually what I was looking for. Yeah. So now the original bike just is called bike and has a lower price tag of 1895. And then the new one is like 2,500 bucks. And so is the treadmill. Um, and it has like,
Starting point is 00:13:52 you know, a big ass screen or whatever. I don't know. Cool. I don't know if I would run better with a, like someone motivating me on the treadmill versus like just listening to shit as I run, like in my ears.
Starting point is 00:14:06 I don't know. I'm not a tread guy, so I wouldn't know. Oh, uh, just a quick fact check. You know who the, the other person was the,
Starting point is 00:14:12 the, the first celebrity to get them a McDonald's meal. Um, I was just about to say, uh, the gymnast from the eighties. Is that, no,
Starting point is 00:14:23 think, think a little bit. Think of quite literally the answer to the question I had posed of who was somebody that we probably would have bought. Michael Jordan. Yeah, it's Michael Jordan. The McJordan special, which looked like a regular cheeseburger. Or yeah, quarter pound pure beef cheese, smoked bacon, barbecue sauce with onions pickles that's almost like travis scott's huh who'd have known who'd have thought who'd have thought i mean they also you know they collaborate frequently on their sneakers
Starting point is 00:14:54 so it all makes sense you know yeah that was a good collabo actually yeah um all right well miles it's been great having you back. Oh, great to be here. Great to be here. Yeah, yeah. That's going to do it for this afternoon. We'll be back tomorrow with a whole ass episode of our show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves.
Starting point is 00:15:16 Wash your hands. Wear a mask. Stay inside. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we'll be back tomorrow. Talk to you all then. Bye. Fuck coronavirus. Fuck coronavirus.
Starting point is 00:15:25 Fuck coronavirus. Straight up. Kay hasn't heard from her sister in seven years. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything
