Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, I'm Gianna Pradenti. And I'm Jermaine Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. There's a lot to figure out when you're just starting your career. That's where we come in. Think of us as your work besties
Starting point is 00:00:12 you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in people who do, like negotiation expert Maury Tahiripour. If you start thinking about negotiations as just a conversation, then I think it sort of eases us a little bit. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:00:30 I'm Jess Costavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and Shekinah Church. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:00:56 or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry. Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. Every great player needs a foil. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game.
Starting point is 00:01:15 Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Listen to the making of a rivalry. Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese on the iHeart on the iheart radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast presented by elf beauty founding partner of iheart women's sports hello the internet and welcome to this episode of your daily zeitgeist year end tiktok social media recap edition jiggle jiggle this is the last time you'll be hearing my voice. I don't know shit about TikTok. Jack.
Starting point is 00:01:49 It's me, Jack. Is that Miles? Hey, Miles. Who else is there? Oh my god, did I hear Anna earlier? No, I haven't said Anna yet. Oh, never mind. She's not here. Dude, what?
Starting point is 00:02:02 And was that the laughter of Super Producer Becca Ramos? Becca Ramos. It's my time to shine. It's my episode. At Becca Ramos. All right, I'm going to log out. I think we should all log out and just let Becca host this. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:02:17 Yeah, I only know three. I mean, the truth be told, I'd spend a decent amount scrolling TikTok as entertainment just to feel young. You spend a decent amount of money doing that, which I think I think you're not using TikTok. Oh, yeah, dude. Well, I go on these live streams that people have and I give them roses and coins and then they say thank you. And they'll sing, but it's really fun. But yeah, I would say that within the show, Becca will occasionally be like, hey, you see what's going on on TikTok? And we're like, what?
Starting point is 00:02:46 You don't hear about West Elm? What was that dude's name? West Elm Caleb. Yeah, West Elm Caleb. That's in the New York Times TikTok moments. Wait. Oh, amazing. My Caleb?
Starting point is 00:02:55 Yes, sorry. Oh, no. My Caleb, not my Caleb. So that was like a fuckboy who everybody found out was like playing them, right? Yeah. Yeah. He worked at West Elm, right? Is that what it was? liked it so that was like a fuckboy who everybody found out was like playing them right yeah yeah he worked at west elm right is that what it was yes he was at a graphic a graphic designer at west elm hell yeah i mean that's okay he was a brooklyn boy like brooklyn boy you know yeah
Starting point is 00:03:18 brooklyn boy i know many of them i worked with some of them i was going back through my favorite tweets and a couple of them were tiktok based oh okay you brought it back yeah i got it back got it back got it back but it could be a thing that was like cool at tiktok three years ago like the it's only popular actually i guess you're right we're talking musically start the pandemic which was three years ago almost yeah yeah so it was it's Winnie the fucking Pooh. Was that? That was the summer. That was the summer?
Starting point is 00:03:48 Oh, yeah. See, I'm of the moment. I mean, should we, since Jack, you probably won't say anything. You'll be like, who's that? Who goes there throughout most of this talk? Are there any that you can say off top for you? You're like, I know TikTok. These are my three favorite videos.
Starting point is 00:04:02 It's Winnie the fucking Pooh. And the bird guide guide the top five birds was an incredible video yeah shit all right i'll i'll look up who it is the lovely thing about tiktok is that you can't find anything which is like the beauty and the curse of the app you're like oh my god i saw this video that i really loved and now I will never find it again. Oh, I found it. It was by Paris Nicholson. I'm like a bird. I only fly away. Is this the one you're talking about?
Starting point is 00:04:31 Yeah, that's the one. And baby, all I need for you to know is which of these birds are the hottest? The hottest bird in the sky is the raven. So yeah. Nevermore, which is famously a quote from a spooky ghost. Yeah, we're not on the same side of TikTok, Jack. Oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:44 Well, this is not even me on TikTok. This is courtesy of Emily Atkin at MRWe on Twitter. I think. Oh, and then obviously, I think we'll play your other one or we can reference your other one. I think we have to play it. I think it is the funniest TikTok I've ever seen with zero production just just based off the pure energy of the person. It's Vine energy for sure. Yes.
Starting point is 00:05:08 It's major Vine energy. I think it's the best art that I saw this year. Like I tried to stay up on movies. I read a couple books. Went to museums. TikTok was, I did go to some museums. Thank you,
Starting point is 00:05:20 Becca, for reminding that. I don't like to bring that up. Read a bunch of New yorker articles just so many uh but i think the it's winnie the fucking poo yeah this one's from at hitting like grabba you know she's smoking uh and this is just one where she's showing the back of a stuffed animal to camera and then just turns it up on everybody oh you thought this was a rabbit they thought this was a rabbit come on that's funny
Starting point is 00:05:46 bitch it's fucking winnie the fucking poop okay so and then she's like yeah fuck yeah fourth of july fucking winnie the poop um okay so we got those out of the way incredible all right um see i'm like i only know like three more videos because everything else i just consume in a fever dream but who's popping on TikTok? What is popping? Well, I did lots and lots of research today. And there were many articles, actually. I was kind of shocked because to me, TikTok is like an endless abyss.
Starting point is 00:06:15 You're in there. You're viewing too many things. You're on it for way too long. And you don't even know. Doing this research really showed me like, A, how close am I to mainstream? Which is not really. Like I knew a lot of this stuff, but I didn't know all of it.
Starting point is 00:06:32 But also just how vast, I mean, we know how vast the internet is, but truly like TikTok is just such an abyss. And I'm like, wow, the sides of TikTok I'm on are not the popular sides of TikTok. And there's some of these things I never saw. Some of these things that never came across my radar. Some of these things that have shown me that I'm too old for the side of TikTok I'm on are not the popular sides of TikTok. And there's some of these things I never saw. Some of these things that never came across my radar. Some of these things that have shown me that I'm too old for the side of TikTok that is like considered, you know, popular culture in all
Starting point is 00:06:52 these recaps. I mean, can we say your age? Yeah, I'm 27. Okay. And you're like, you feel too old? Yes. Sometimes I do feel too old on this app. And I'm dead looking at this shit. Because sometimes it's like, especially I talk to my partner's sister. She's in college. And I'm like, oh, I am old to you. Yeah, yeah, for sure. I'm like, oh, shit. Like, sometimes I think I'm your age.
Starting point is 00:07:15 And it's very clear we're not the same age. So to give you a little, you know, where we pull this up, like New York Times did a recap. Variety did a recap. And then a lot of the other articles just copied varieties recap and then there's like tiktok itself did a tiktok newsroom where they went over all these different genres all these different categories i was like obviously the most in-depth i don't think we're gonna get all the way there but right mainly referencing the variety article let's start off to see who the if how many of the top
Starting point is 00:07:45 tick the people are this is the most like these are the artists right these are artists that have followings on tiktok yes specifically i think these are music artists they're saying like top u.s music artists i think jack would do well here because i'm only i'm only missing about three or two or three yeah missing one i think okay my favorite artist is here charlie pooth uh there's something called Bad Bunny. I don't know. Is that the bunny that is Winnie the Pooh? Is that what they're referencing?
Starting point is 00:08:11 Lizzo. I'm sure that's just someone named Lizzie who misspelled her name. Doja Cat. Seriously, though, Jack, how many of these do you know? You know who Lizzo is. They're in order based on their popularity. So number one on this list is Lizzo.
Starting point is 00:08:25 She's the queen of TikTok apparently. Jack, we know. Let's start off. They're in order based on like their popularity. So number one on this list is Lizzo. Okay. Yeah. She's the queen of TikTok apparently. Jack, we know. Yeah. Bella Porch is a big miss for me. Yeah. I'm like, what?
Starting point is 00:08:33 I don't even know who that is. So on this list, Bella Porch is like, as we go through, probably one of the only, well, I guess that three out of 10 of these on this list are TikTok to music's mainstream fame. And Bella Porteous is the first on this list from TikTok to mainstream fame. She became famous, I think, in 2020, like built her career on TikTok. She got really famous through that. I don't know how. I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
Starting point is 00:09:04 Should I be offended hearing you saying that to me I think you went viral in 2020 it's like I'm not doing it again I think you know it actually when you just did that wait is M.B? M.B I don't know the rest that's the fun of this episode
Starting point is 00:09:18 so yeah she's that girl and then she built a career so good for her go Queen the next is Bad Bunny I would hope took the globe by storm this year So yeah, she's that girl. And then she built a career. So good for her. Go. Okay. Next one. The next is bad bunny. I would hope we all know. Globe by storm this year. You are patron saint of bad bunnies.
Starting point is 00:09:31 Okay. Then Charlie Puth. He knew that one. Famously thirst trapping on TikTok. That's why he's on this list. I think not because he's like, obviously the most talented artist promoting on TikTok. He literally has gone viral for all his like weird thirst traps on tiktok and then he also does this thing where he just like pulls a random sound and i guess he has
Starting point is 00:09:49 perfect pitch so he keeps like being like oh that's an f sharp boop and then like who is this charlie charlie oh god it got it yes um okay next one doja cat amazing no know Doja okay Selena Gomez okay which is confusing to me in this sense because I wonder if it's like
Starting point is 00:10:10 based on their music or based on who they are and they just happen to be musicians because like Selena doesn't post a lot of music
Starting point is 00:10:17 but she does do all the like rare beauty stuff and like beauty routines and showing new makeup so I feel like that's why she's famous
Starting point is 00:10:23 because she hasn't released that much music I think in the time that she's been on tiktok yeah most relevant thing was only murders also rare beauty slaps oh it does i'm i do stand in rare beauty so she almost came in hot with the makeup oh my god rare brand it is yeah i thought it was just a statement oh really yeah rare beauty's good she came through how does rare beauty like rank among the celebrity cosmetics oh it's the best it's up there yeah yeah i don't think there's a celebrity makeup that's really i mean besides fenty obviously like i think it's like fenty and rare beauty and like yeah basically i don't really
Starting point is 00:11:01 know anymore is selena a billionaire i don't know i don't know okay anymore. Is Selena a billionaire? I don't know. I don't know. Okay, then I think I know who we're with. Did you watch her documentary? No. I'm glad she got help, but she had a tough time. Yeah. A real tough time. Okay. But she's doing better now, which is good.
Starting point is 00:11:16 But the blush, though. She had a tough time and came through with the hottest blush. She came out with the hottest blush. That's a comeback. She took care of her mental health. You know what? We all should. Then maybe we will all come out with the hottest blush, okay? Because it was beautiful.
Starting point is 00:11:31 You just need a little. It'll last you forever. Anyway. Okay, who's Nessa Barrett? I literally had to hyperlink this one because I didn't know who it was. This is the one person on the list that I didn't actually know and then that's when I felt old. So they are a TikToker turned musician's when i felt old so they are a tiktoker turn musician but i don't know who they are 19 million followers i'm gonna act smart and
Starting point is 00:11:52 be like yeah of course but now i know her as vanessa barrett and that's where i would have been wrong because her real name is janessa oh no so okay the next one we all know young gravy young gravy come on jack young gravy is was involved in like a tiktok love triangle right yeah yeah yeah whose mom whose mom did he take addison ray you were so close jack yeah right right oh and then her dad was like i'm gonna kick your ass and her dad is Emilio. We use the same realm. No, Charlie D'Amelio. Yeah. Right, right. Oh, and then her dad was like, I'm gonna kick your ass.
Starting point is 00:12:28 Her dad is the Italian Incredible Hulk. Her dad is like a character, like one of the husbands on Real Housewives of New Jersey. Like, that's his energy.
Starting point is 00:12:37 Yeah. Absolutely. He looks like he would brag about how, like, Lou Ferrigno told him that he was, like, as strong as he was. He was like, you know,
Starting point is 00:12:43 Lou Ferrigno, I was in the gym with him. He said he never met anybody who'd keep up with him like that. That's my acclaim to fame. Not to burst everyone's bubble, but I'm pretty sure he's Mexican. Oh, that's right. No, but he had big grown fuckboy energy.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Yeah, absolutely. Which just reminded me of the Jew Dices on Real Housewives of New Jersey. No, absolutely. He was a creepy creepy maid up next we have some guy named bill i.e eilish i.e eilish i.e eilish um so i'm sure he's like really irish yeah yeah uh no obviously very famous up there you know megan trainer the last one i know megan trainer more is like a like doesn't kendrick reference megan trainer in in a lyric i know megan trainer more is a lyric but i think i
Starting point is 00:13:32 also she has a song in the peanuts movie that my kids are into yeah but yeah she's made a lot of tiktok bops but also she's like very social media savvy and she has a podcast so i feel like that's why she's on this list yeah um but yeah those are the top trending u.s artists of tiktok we're gonna take a quick break and then we're gonna come back and talk about whatever miles was about to say what about the about and also the trending videos jack how well do you know the tiktok trends not at all well we'll zero we're Phase two. Well, we'll see. We're going to find out. All right. We'll be right back.
Starting point is 00:14:12 I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do. Like resume specialist Morgan Saner. Starting point is 00:15:50 is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it? Like you miss 100% of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career.
Starting point is 00:16:05 Without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is Season 4 of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them boys. I just come here to play basketball every single day and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a
Starting point is 00:16:46 joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting
Starting point is 00:17:02 better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to N on the black effect podcast network iheart radio app apple podcast or wherever you get your podcast the black effect podcast network is sponsored by diet coke and we're back um and the entire time yeah we're a break stop stop when her when her head hits the keyboard we know we've taken a break for too long but yeah next up trending videos trending and so these are the trending videos like what the biggest videos were on tiktok yes from my understanding these were the top u.s these are all specifically u.s there's like some
Starting point is 00:17:51 global but i was like i personally don't know any of these global ones so i just kept it to like the u.s list but these are the top trending u.s videos so like the individual not the trend but like the video itself um the first one is um i his name is i'm pretty sure french amari um yeah yeah the the chocolate the chocolate master do who got the netflix show the school of chocolate yeah i have watched all of it i love it it's a great show by the way it's a fun show you know why it has it has like heart because it's one of the few like skill-based competition reality shows where if you fuck up they're not like yo get the fuck out of here yeah like amari will take you aside and be like okay i see you had difficulty with that challenge let me show you some ways to turn up your technique he's a great
Starting point is 00:18:39 teacher like i feel like all of those cooking reality tv shows none of the actual chefs that are like hosting are teachers like they all are just like aggressive like i'm the best at what i do and i'm gonna judge you at how good you are at in like imitating my work but he's like teaching them you guys have clearly never seen lego masters it's too will arnett's i can't take him on that show understandable peopleable. People are saying, but I do like, I like the building of it. I started out being like this fool better not talk a lot.
Starting point is 00:19:10 And now I'm like a full on Will Arnett fan. He walked me over, but I think it's like Stockholm syndrome in a way. I admit watching the Legos, you know, those challenges are definitely fun. Anyway, see TikTok though.
Starting point is 00:19:22 And that's an example of what TikTok does to you. Cause you just go on these rabbit holes you'll start yeah like yesterday for instance i was on the train i was scrolling and i watched one video to completion about the uh sister wives scandal because there's like a new like season on if it's tlc i don't know if you know the sister yeah and then i got served like 80 more sister Wives videos. And I was like, I'm not necessarily like wanting to consume this content. But now I'm kind of like eight episodes down of explanation of what's going on with the Sister Wives universe. Yeah, it happens. And I don't like that.
Starting point is 00:19:56 So what else? Okay, so I know his videos are trending, but I get that the one of the chocolate giraffe. I'm pretty sure I saw that one. What's another one that Jack might giraffe, I'm pretty sure I saw that one. I saw that one. What's another one that Jack might know? I'm trying to think. I saw one where he built out a big chocolate egg, or it was like a compass or something.
Starting point is 00:20:16 Yes. I have seen the compass one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, okay, okay. Just checking in, getting your temperature on that one. Okay, number two, the second most trending video in the US.s it is the chipmunks of tiktok and it is the
Starting point is 00:20:30 squishies back after hibernation i have not seen this video actually squishies back after hibernation yeah it's like a little chip and he where's this little chipmunk going okay so there's little chipmunk. Aww. And he... Where's this little chipmunk going? Okay, so there's a chipmunk. They're on a porch. They walk over the little hole in the porch and hold some nuts there. Of food. And he's...
Starting point is 00:20:56 Is he going to do it? Yes. They're coaxing a chipmunk out from his hidey hole. Okay, so he just put that peanut in. Oh, he... Wow. He's going for it. After he puts every peanut in, he's wow he's going for it after he puts every peanut in he looks up at the person handing him the peanuts and and like kind of makes intense eye contact
Starting point is 00:21:13 five million likes on that video well deserved that's a and that was just a video of a i mean to me just a regular chipmunk just a regular chipmunk of the chipmunks of tiktok so much yeah like i have been that chipmunk before that's me at thanksgiving i mean i have aspired to be that okay let's write out the top three what's who's who's in big three rosalia um she went viral for her uh chewing gum trend she, you know, her song, I don't know which song it is, to be honest. But, you know, she just basically goes in all these scenarios and she looks like she's jugging at you. She's like, oh, that's what she keeps doing at our live shows. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:55 And so that's why she made the video. So it's just her like washing her hair and like doing her makeup and like eating. Like, you can say a lot with the way you chew gum and then oh yeah yeah you can say a heck of a lot i feel like she had a big year like on tiktok she did she had a big year on tiktok that was yeah all of her songs half of the like yeah a lot of the things i was hearing were just from that moto mommy album what about actual trends what about the things people try to replicate because look jack you know the trends on tiktok right name one oh one of your favorites uh
Starting point is 00:22:31 or challenge jiggle jiggle it's corn um jiggle jiggle it's corn jiggle jiggle it's corn i don't know they all blend together or like milk crate the milk crate challenge i know you know great challenge i feel like that know 2020 though that was but i'm just saying like just for look i'm trying to consider the whole audience who might be like why the fuck are they talking about tiktok because it it gets millions of people doing all kinds of shit you know i saw this jacket on tiktok no what is it it is a le Levi's puffer that it was going viral at Costco. I went to Costco yesterday. I made my partner's mom take me to Costco.
Starting point is 00:23:10 I said, I had never been to Costco, ma'am. Will you please take me to Costco? I know, and I know we did the whole episode. You're from Texas? I had never been to Costco. My parents were the cheap immigrant parents that did not buy the Costco membership. I don't understand. They went to Smart and Final.
Starting point is 00:23:23 Yeah, so my dad was the first person on Amazon Prime, I swear to God, but he could not imagine Costco. So anyway, I love it. This is good. This is good TikTok influence. This puffer was so cute. So TikTok changes the world.
Starting point is 00:23:37 That's all I'm trying to say. So you step out, you go out, and everybody else got that denim puffer too, right? And then you're like, damn it. So the top trends. Jack, I think you alluded. What was the biggest trend this year? Jiggle Jiggle.
Starting point is 00:23:49 Wow. And so explain to people what Jiggle Jiggle is. I was actually not familiar with this before we started this meeting. But this is like just a deadpan freestyle from a British documentarian. Yeah. And everybody just remixed it. just a deadpan freestyle from a British documentarian. Yeah. And then everybody just remixed it. His name's Louis Thoreau.
Starting point is 00:24:10 Come on. Yeah. Cool. Be cool. Louie's listening. Uh, yeah, it was from his appearance on chicken shop date on YouTube. It's his YouTube channel where Amelia de Moldenberg is like the interviews,
Starting point is 00:24:21 like musicians. And like, it's a very between two ferns kind of awkward energy type interview and at a certain point she's like i don't know like do you have any musical stuff he's like i rap and she's like let me hear some of it because like in apparently a story he did he went into like got in the rap scene and wrote a battle rap and this is the rap that he sings i i have rapped in a program i did a weird weekends episode about rap can you remember any of the rap that you did my money don't jiggle jiggle it folds like you had
Starting point is 00:24:51 that on deck for sure it makes me want to dribble dribble you know riding in my fiat you really have to see it six feet two in a compact no slack but luckily the seats go back i got a knack to relax in my mind i'm sipping some red red wine i mean boom genius that's motherfucking bars that's where we need fucking funk master flex to come in if your friends were to cancel you over that no no but that became that dance like the song that they remixed to that it was like i get it now why it was the biggest trend because i feel like every like even like newsrooms yeah like local news like weather people were like and we're doing the jiggle jiggle trend out in a snowstorm or whatever uh because the dancing is late night every celebrity did it it was like the easy thing that their pr teams could be like oh my god okay you have to join in this popular culture thing
Starting point is 00:25:43 like do the jiggle jiggle. So right. The jiggle jiggle that, that interview clip becomes a thing that people are remixing, putting to music. And then the number four video is the actors from Riverdale. Yes. The three lead actresses doing a choreographed dance to jiggle jiggle. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:04 This is how TikTok worksok works right it's like a noise that someone makes or like a thing a kid said in an interview a soundbite that's become remixed that then becomes a dance trend that then becomes like a potential then the audio the dry audio might become its own separate trend yeah that doesn't have a dance but is a trend that's what i that's a kind of i think is just so interesting is you know that it goes from remember that one time that like you know person grunted weird and then it spawns 300 000 videos it recreates the experience of like being in a room with people and having inside jokes like it's true remember that dude said that thing and then we all just keep repeating it back and forth.
Starting point is 00:26:46 Making bits about it. Exactly. Yeah. Except I'm always saying, because I can't stop watching the shark song. Okay, what was his number two trend of this year? It's corn. Oh, corn.
Starting point is 00:27:02 Jack, you know corn? Corn? Corn? It's corn. Corn. Jack, you know corn? Corn? Corn? It's corn. Corn. Jack, you know corn, kid, right? Can we watch this video? I had heard of it, but I never watched the original video or any of the content.
Starting point is 00:27:12 Unfortunately, we don't have time to play the whole video. Is it long? The interview's like three minutes, I think. No, but this part. This is a kid being interviewed about his love of the corn. Corn. I really like corn corn what do you like about corn it's cold so that's the big remix song when originally the interview is just like the reason the remix is the
Starting point is 00:27:48 trend that's usually how it works on tiktok but the remixes corn corn uh but it's just like the original video is just like the most sincere interaction with a child who's just like i love corn and he's like and then what do you say after the butter one? He's like, and then I learned about butter. It changed my life. It changed my life. And now he's like a viral celebrity who does like red carpet interviews. Yeah, he just signed with UTA.
Starting point is 00:28:15 What? Probably. I can't even get with UTA. No. Did you create the most Culture defining Moment of 2022 I'm a loser I mean if the Walmart yodeling kid Got you know
Starting point is 00:28:31 Yodeling kid kind of fell off No then he went viral on TikTok He had a couple songs on TikTok Not in any of these recaps See and that's what I'm saying about the different size of TikTok There was that one meme that we would lose our minds over Where he would like fall and then it would land. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:49 Like the death drop and then keep going. Oh, that was a favorite. That's a pre-TikTok banger inside joke one. That was pre-TikTok? Yeah. I mean, that was. Yeah. Because we were doing it in the office.
Starting point is 00:29:03 Yeah. This was in March of 2018. We used to work together in an office, Ana mean, that was... Yeah, because we were doing it in the office. Yeah. This was in March of 2018. We used to work together in an office, Ana. Remember that? I'm Jack. Yeah, like you worked next to me? I actually can't remember where we were. And just to blow your mind even more,
Starting point is 00:29:18 that young man, he's on trial right now for rioting at the Capitol on January 6th. No. Are you serious? serious no i'm fucking believe it he was like yodeling on mancy pelosi's desk yeah that's the kind of tiktok you could fake real easy too like i was going tiktok i'm like here's the thing if you actually look into mason ramsey the walmart yodeling kid check out this video from january 6th i'm pretty sure that's him leave your leave your thoughts in the comments like that's exactly how it is you're welcome all right miles i know we lose you in uh
Starting point is 00:29:49 a minute here but any any last words about tiktok before you have to go record your 17th podcast of the day as someone who like takes me a minute sometimes to get into like the new like media thing uh i was surprised how quickly i got into tiktok like once i started like liking things and just it only served like i don't really get a lot of weird shit like i like i said i have cooking dancing and like a lot of multi-language like comedy and i just think it's dope you do ask that we put it all on dvds for you to watch yeah exactly yeah because you're not into the whole streaming uh digital content no i'm like leonardo dicaprio once upon a time in hollywood i'm like oh like on the couch
Starting point is 00:30:30 um but the one person i really do want to shout out is james raywald this dude who makes really interesting narrative videos about like global capitalism yeah i know that's great yeah we've talked about a few of those yeah like that's the kind of shit i really love to see because his content it's done in the language and aesthetic of tiktok but the message is so clear because of how like how he's simplified things like fucking like geopolitical conflict that we have um that i think it's like it's a really really underrated kind of contribute creative here's the thing the future is learning through like quick editing and like fun bits like it truly is it's like cut two sunglasses what does he represent
Starting point is 00:31:16 now it's like that's the way we're gonna learn in the future and that's you know and that's fine with me because that's the only way to keep my attention. The vibe of all of his things are like the montage where Scarface is making all the money. Like it's all like cut together real quick and like stylish, like cut to the edits to the music. Right. But it's like about the CIA just infiltrating the world and killing everyone. And also why you never hear about like real proletarian uprisings because of like this of consolidated media and the companies that are in it and the countries they operate in. And it's just, the graphics are so simple and you're like, holy shit.
Starting point is 00:31:50 And that's when I'm like, I feel great as an older person looking at what young people are doing. I'm like, shit, look at, y'all smart as, yeah, you're smart as fuck, man. Alright, good. I'm gonna stay high. Y'all got it. There's some hope. And y'all got this recording
Starting point is 00:32:05 too i'll see you later uh continue you have to transfer oh no brian's got the recorder all right hey jack come on don't do shop talk come on don't scare the listeners oh my god the most unhinged the holidays let's take a quick break and we'll come back with some final thoughts on TikTok the year that was at the end can I just give some special
Starting point is 00:32:37 mentions of TikToks I enjoy hell yeah yeah sure I mean there's no I thought we weren't doing a shop talk I thought we weren't doing a shop talk. I thought we weren't doing a shop talk. We're at ad break. And then you come in trying to... We're at an ad break.
Starting point is 00:32:48 Trying to... No, we're not at the ad break yet. Yes, you are. You just said... We didn't even stop yet. Yes, you did. We didn't stop. First of all, your whole...
Starting point is 00:32:54 Brian, keep all of this, Brian. Your yeah sure was so aggressive. Brian, keep it all. Yeah, no, that's great. Yeah, let's... I'm not allowed to ask Miles if he's transferred the recording, but you're allowed to talk about the outline to the outline day.
Starting point is 00:33:13 If he's going to be able to upload his fucking recording, we like to keep the illusion that there is no outline that this is all coming top of the dome. I didn't say anything about the outline. I said at the end of the show, can I drop this? Yeah. Keep it in. Keep it in. I can't say anything about the outline. I said at the end of the show, can I drop this? Yeah, keep it in. Keep it in.
Starting point is 00:33:27 Becca just plugged her ears and started crying. This is how it goes. This is actually what I was really like. This is actually like my first week here. This is like when they're like, Shaq and Kobe didn't get along. That's the energy. This is what really happens behind the scenes. Except we don't go public.
Starting point is 00:33:42 And I'm Shaq and you're Kobe. No, bitch, I'm Shaq. What? Now we're fighting again? Oh, my Kobe. No, bitch, I'm Shaq. What? Now we're fighting again? Oh, my God. All right. We'll be right back. What?
Starting point is 00:33:52 That wasn't the ad break. That wasn't the ad break. Now it's the ad break. We're still going. All right, Brian, now ad break. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it? Starting point is 00:36:03 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them boys. I just come here to play basketball every single day and that's what I focus on. From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports.
Starting point is 00:36:41 Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game? And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke.
Starting point is 00:37:12 And we're back. This is a shit show. This is... Mile leaves and decorum fails. It's the only thing holding us together. That's true. You called a mile, by the way. One mile failed.
Starting point is 00:37:29 So, all right. I'm just going to turn it over to y'all. Let's just, through the whole outline, as Ana has let us know. Yeah, just burn through. What are your thoughts? What are the big takes from Becca and Ana? I feel like my biggest takeaway is that like, I am like a foot in popular
Starting point is 00:37:47 culture, but like a big foot out of popular culture. Like I could recognize like 70% of the list, but I definitely am like on a totally different side of the internet for a lot of these things. Like specifically to me, the Uncovered communities, their top 10 Uncovered communities are Book Talk, Car Talk, Film Talk slash Movie Talk, Small Business Talk, Sustainability Talk, Farm Talk, National Park Talk, Crochet Talk, Museum Talk, and Wood Talk. I'm on Movie Talk. The rest of them, I'm not on. I'm on like weird queer comedy talk. I'm on like weird queer comedy talk and like I don't even know like the most awkward like vine energy type of followers like I was looking through my stuff and I was like yeah I just follow like really small like funny creators that give vine energy chefs so I can find more recipes
Starting point is 00:38:40 and maybe some news stuff and And then a lot of like, um, social commentators for like movies and, you know, uh, movie film critics type of thing. And that's really it. Like that's my whole TikTok following.
Starting point is 00:38:54 Where do you get your ideas for small businesses? You know, sorry, I'm a corporate hoe. You know, I enjoy my, my corporate job. I,
Starting point is 00:39:01 I like clocking in, clocking out. I'm not, I'm not trying to be on this like uh get paid quick you know free 99 schemey tiktok because there's you know what not to call out my partner love him very dearly but i feel like when i open his tiktok and my tiktok we're like on opposite ends of the universe his tiktok is like watch negotiation videos, like specifically like giving, um,
Starting point is 00:39:26 gosh, what is that? Adam Sandler movie? Uncut gems, uncut gems, vibes, like jobs, uncut jobs,
Starting point is 00:39:32 uh, uncut arms, vibes where like they're negotiating, uh, fucking Rolexes and things like that. It's that it's car talk. It's, you know,
Starting point is 00:39:41 like mixed language comedy, like Spanish comedy stuff. and like a lot of like dude humor that i'm like not for me and then like a lot of dude podcasts and i'm like oh no is this gonna get scurry and then uh like finance tiktok and like housing stuff like to buy a house and like you know what is the best way to like you know win the system and i'm like that's your job you know like that'll be your job you can like find the way like all the loopholes not i'm on tiktok to have fun and you're on tiktok to learn for some reason and that is not fun so right there you go uh all right anna do you like fully just got attacked you know that right okay
Starting point is 00:40:23 you're on t on TikTok to learn. And that, my friend, is embarrassing. That's embarrassing. Yeah. I mean, I just kind of tend to get into like TikTok scroll holes, if you will. Absolutely. 100%. But I will say like there are a few special mentions I want to make, which is the Giuseppe
Starting point is 00:40:43 underscore Matilde, which is like the little Italian girl who just is like always complaining. And so she's like, I think that's really funny because my favorite type of humor is Italian-American discrimination. So it really gets me fucking going. I was going to say they're all descendants of the
Starting point is 00:41:04 Linda Honey, the young boy who's just exasperated with his mom and has facial expressions of like a misogynistic 55 year old man. Linda, Linda, listen. Yeah, there's a couple of those that I've seen that, I mean, I do love an entertaining, precocious little kid just talking down to adults. If you, if children are raised by, like young kids are raised by older people like like grandparents or they spend a lot of time with their grandparents they will take on those traits like i watched it with my little like uh cousin who was raised by my uncle who was his grandfather and he would say like really wild
Starting point is 00:41:43 old persian man shit and i would be like what did he just say like he one really wild old Persian man shit. And I would be like, what did he just say? Like, he one time, I didn't stay at his house one night. This is in Iran. And he came at me and he goes, I make your bed. I make a beautiful room for you. You go and you stay at their house. And I was like, what?
Starting point is 00:41:58 You're like, who are you learning from? What's your business? Like, what are you talking about? He's basically guilting you for not calling him enough. He was, like, being passive aggressive towards me. I was like, like first of all you can walk your ass over to your little high chair and mind your business anyway so anyway i think that's the best type of humor on tiktok and then i also want to give a special mention to former guest ever maynard's and it is some of the funniest shit i've ever seen because it'll just be like ever climbing a tree or ever setting fire to the yard and her mom freaking out and then ever just continuously screaming.
Starting point is 00:42:31 It's not an issue. It's not an issue. And then the yard is on fire. Kills me. There's also somebody who like because TikTok just choreographs your algorithm specifically to your taste so i saw this one thread that i thought was an interesting like snapshot of tiktok where he's like i've got such like a weird taste that like now all the videos that the algorithm feeds me could be confused with modern art did y'all see that one and it's just like i can't describe it but it it is like all of the videos are just so strange and surreal like there's one where i
Starting point is 00:43:07 think like michael buffer is like announcing at a old folks home meeting while like he's making tacos or something it's it's very very strange and surreal and like that i don't know the use of tiktok just like being this like hive mind where it'll just like pull in these things and you know through curation creates its own sort of art is absolutely I will say there's also another very interesting trend on these shows which is
Starting point is 00:43:36 on these shows I'm losing my mind on TikTok which is the sort of like dance but describe a really sort of traumatic thing that's happened to you like the one where the girl was like my dad yeah like one thing about me is my dad married a woman half his age who's only a few years older than me and then they like he proposed her after a few days and then she ended up murdering him and there's all this and you're like you're like huh yeah the trauma dumping that gen z does on tiktok is actually something that needs to be studied because it's like they have no decorum
Starting point is 00:44:08 like this yeah it's like you couldn't waterboard some of the things they say out of me on the internet to be vulnerable for like many millions and billions of people it's just it's so much i'm like your employers are gonna see this like and i don't know maybe it's my millennial trauma but i look at tiktok i i love as like a chismosa those stories right like i'm i'm enjoying the juicy gossip of like whatever bullshit story they're saying but as like a a millennial who's been burnt also a millennial who was in a white sorority so you were like burned at the stake of your social media in 2013, 2017. If you were on Instagram, you were being monitored
Starting point is 00:44:47 if you were in Greek life, okay? They were putting little emojis, at least my Greek life did. They would put emojis on your photos if they thought it was inappropriate because I was a Zeta. And so they would put little crowns like our moderators
Starting point is 00:45:00 would put crowns on your photos if they thought your photo was inappropriate for social and you'd have to take it down i.e if it was too scandalous if it had a solo cup in it if it had any alcohol even if you were of age at the time so i'm just i'm just scarred i'm like my my social media is clean no that crazy shit that stays on like close friends that stays on your like very private stories that you can trust like 10 people i'm not putting that shit on blast for anybody to see especially your employers like they're like scaring you like oh my god like your social media is forever which is true so they were like you
Starting point is 00:45:35 can't put anything on the internet and you know i i look at gen z sometimes and i get scared like this is forever you're posting that forever out there? Right. I will say, I'm old school. I just talk about all my trauma on my podcast. No one listens to it. But the things they divulge sometimes, I'm like, you're too young to realize that this was crazy.
Starting point is 00:45:58 And don't put that out there. Yeah, yeah. No. All right. And that's TikTok. That's TikTok 2022. And and now my friends you're all tiktok that's prestige tiktok prestige talking well that is going to do it for this special holiday edition thank you so much super producer becca ramos where can people find, follow you on socials. You can find me and follow me at Bex Ramos, B-E-C-C-S.
Starting point is 00:46:28 Yeah, B-E-C-C-S-R-A-M-O-S. Wow, almost spelled my own username wrong. On all platforms. I'm really only active on Instagram. If you follow me on TikTok, you're just going to see, which I do love this function. They have a repost function now. And I do just do it.
Starting point is 00:46:44 I operate my TikTok like I did my Tumblr back in 2012. You know, I just repost videos that I find really funny. And so if you want those to show up in your feed, that's what I got for you. But I'm not posting a lot of my own organic content on there because like I mentioned, I think it's way too vulnerable platform. And well, it's just like an incredible thing that you're like
Starting point is 00:47:05 I notice a lot of people that like blow up they're like oh I really thought only my friends and family would see this even though they posted it publicly they didn't post it on like because you can choose like friends only which are just your followers they post it public and then it just gets picked up and that
Starting point is 00:47:22 is something that like Instagram or Twitter has not replicated. I mean, Twitter, I guess some, cause you can go viral on Twitter, but like it is like this thing where it's like you told this personal thing and all of a sudden a billion people have seen it. And that's not something I'm quite vulnerable enough to do.
Starting point is 00:47:39 So, you know, maybe you'll see something from me if I think it's really funny, but otherwise. Maybe you won't, assholes. You won't. And you're just going to see my repost. So you'll see my weird comedy choices. That's right. Super producer Anna Hosnier.
Starting point is 00:47:53 Where can people find you, follow you, all that good stuff? Yeah, I'm at Anna Hosnier on Twitter. I'm at Anna. Wait, who am I? I'm at Anna Hosnier on Twitter. I'm at selling Hosnier on Twitter. I'm at... Wait. Who am I? I'm at Anna Hosea on Twitter. I'm at Selling Hosea on Instagram. Thank you, Becca. I don't know who I am.
Starting point is 00:48:11 I've lost my way. Yeah, follow me on there for... I don't know. I just post about Iran, so... Important. Important information to stay on top of. Yeah. You can find me on Twitter at Jack underscore O'Brien,
Starting point is 00:48:25 mostly liking tweets and people posting TikTok videos on Twitter. All right. That is going to do it for this episode. We are back soon with more special holiday content. And we'll talk to you all then. Bye. Bye. Goodbye.
