Starting point is 00:02:01 Hello, the Internet, and welcome to this episode of Black Ad Trend, or Jane the Rock Wants Trend is what I wanted to call. I almost did it again, Dwayne the Rock Johnson, because my brain is a broken. But yeah, Black Adam came out last night, and it's cleaning up. We'll get into it. I'm Jack jack and that over there well that's miles hi hi hi steve bannon is trending eh yeah really fucked up day man this guy got four months just because he fucking ignored a subpoena it's like can't do fucking anything anymore in this fucking country dude yeah wow the Gestapo is really out. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:46 Yeah, exactly. They're out. They're out enforcing, you know, subpoenas. The DOJ was like, hey, can we get six? And he got four. So I guess that's that. And he, yeah, he's, he's, he will be going to, to there. He will be going to there for fucking four months.
Starting point is 00:03:03 So this is like official, official. Cause I feel like there's been a lot of like, oh, they're going to do this and that. And, you know, at a certain point, my ability to understand anything in the legal realm beyond a basic Matlock plot starts failing me. So but he's now like he will be going to jail. So, but he's now like he will be going to jail for four. Well, good thing you asked Jack, because this still America, he won't have to serve the sentence until the appeal of his conviction plays out. Okay. And so we'll see.
Starting point is 00:03:39 I mean, he he's also like, let me just get probation. And so, look, we'll see again. We'll we'll believe when we see it. But that's what the actual sentence is at this point we can't say that right um okay i'm like and i know with like alex jones everyone's like why is info war still on it's like well you know chapter 11 bankruptcy is a real funny thing because it's meant to help the business stay alive while it's negotiating with its creditors uh Texas two-step. In this case, the parents of the victims that won
Starting point is 00:04:09 their cases. Jack, there's many ways to make it look like you are getting punished and then you can sidestep it. Midnight is trending. No clue why. Maybe everybody just got on social media at midnight and was like look it's midnight
Starting point is 00:04:27 is that a midnight snack? that's my best guess I don't know anything else I think it could be an album that I've heard described as fine by Taylor Swift fans other Swifties one of our producers said the first half of
Starting point is 00:04:43 the word midnights is very appropriate to her. Super producer Becca said it's a little mid. That's after one listen and don't come for her. Don't come for her. She said. We already asked.
Starting point is 00:04:59 She said she was out here. She said I'm ready. She said I'm ready. She said, I'm ready. I've heard it described as stewed reputation. It's like reputation has fermented in a more adult sound. I know the song
Starting point is 00:05:16 Shake It Off by Taylor Swift. That's from Reputation? I think that's 1989. Which is another album. She drops albums. she stays dropping albums that's the thing to know I don't know her music has never quite got to the point
Starting point is 00:05:32 where I'm like oh okay okay I get why people like it so look if y'all got a new album good for you cause I like when albums come out that I fuck with and I wish I could do you know I get I see all the memes sounds like people like it so have a great weekend with that please do And I wish I could do, you know, I see all the memes. Sounds like people like it. So have a great weekend with that.
Starting point is 00:05:48 Please do. All right. Cheesecake Factory is trending. Back to high culture. Thank you. Just kidding. Taylor Swift fans, don't come for me. Cheesecake Factory.
Starting point is 00:06:01 People on Twitter are asking the question, did social media harm the reputation of the Cheesecake Factory? Yeah. So this tweet is, a lot of people were quote tweeting this tweet, quote, before social media, Olive Garden,
Starting point is 00:06:10 Red Lobster, Cheesecake Factory were all considered solid places to eat. Somehow now everyone hates those places. Y'all be acting for the internet.
Starting point is 00:06:18 I feel like people regularly talk about they love Hospitaliano, they love Cheddar Bay Biscuits, they love hospitaliano they love cheddar bay biscuits they love menus that are so fucking big they will give they will damage your wrists just trying to casually flip through the hundreds or thousands of pages yeah menus that can double as a murder weapon oh yeah oh yeah the cheesecake factory i mean we've we've said on here that I think it's probably the cultural creation most likely to represent America and like a human history hall of fame or like museum of like, what was it like?
Starting point is 00:06:57 What did each culture bring to the table? might be the thing that America gets credited with and described by because it is like all about appropriation and just turning it into billions of calories that can make you feel great for a half hour and then really bad for a little bit longer. But it's interesting to me that they would think that social media is making these things less popular because i mean i i feel like generally we've always kind of approached olive garden red lobster and cheesecake factory with a pretty firm circumspect understanding that they are delicious food that is probably not very good for you yeah i i think all of these sure there's like fine dining but also this is like fine dining it's fine it's fucking cheesecake factory like this is every like it's like the fucking fanciest
Starting point is 00:07:54 place you go to when you're young and broke and then you still have fond memories uh even if you start eating other shit or your diet changes but for me it's more like red lobsters just aren't around like they used to be. I'm sure in certain markets, they've maybe dwindled. But at the end of the day, I'll always order chicken littles at the Cheesecake Factory. There was a gumbo thing
Starting point is 00:08:18 or the Kung Pao chicken and shrimp that was similar. It was just both surf and turf mixed in with a sweet tangy sauce and just uh like a wheelbarrow full of rice and it uh always always satisfied i also wonder if this isn't one of those things where someone on social media is like we used to think this was the best restaurant it's like well yeah we did when we were children and then we like grew up a little bit you know and it doesn't mean it's a
Starting point is 00:08:51 bad place to eat but like yeah i definitely thought the olive garden was a fancy restaurant when i was like up through probably middle school because that was oh yeah where my family went when we went out to eat you know my parents wouldn't go to restaurants, so I thought every fucking one was fancy. I was like, oh shit. I remember when I went to Outback Steakhouse, I fucking almost did a fucking backflip because I was so turnt up off the
Starting point is 00:09:16 fucking realness of Outback. I was like, what the fuck? Outback was an event. It was a happening. Like when Outback, because Outback, it was like Olive like when uh outback because outback it was like olive garden uh red lobster cheesecake factory were there and then outback came through i guess around the same time as cheesecake but i just remember that being like the new kid on the block it was like a a dang steakhouse you kidding me yeah were we millionaires like outback was like stealing
Starting point is 00:09:42 their grandmothers like pills and selling them at school like when they show you like oh shit who's the new edgy kid on the block they're like oh that's tgi friday's australian grandson yeah and he's bad those beers are so big but the people the beers that people are drinking at the bar that are are the size of my leg um anyways shout out to cheesecake factory never feel bad about appreciating some good chain restaurants out here. More than 250 dishes made from scratch every day is what it says on their menu.
Starting point is 00:10:13 Oh really? Cheesecake Factory? Just reading the subdivision, if you look at an online menu, they have the section from the bar, small plates and snacks, appetizers, appetizer salads, flatbread pizzas, salads, lunch favorites, glam burgers, sandwiches, pasta, specialties, fish and seafood, steaks, eggs and almonds, Saturday and Sunday brunch, skinny-licious, kids menus, side dishes, desserts, beverages, happy hour, special menu, temporarily unavailable. What must the, like, they really have something figured out in that kitchen like that's that is where the brainpower that like went into winning world war ii like right right went it's now like
Starting point is 00:10:55 devoted to creating just the many layers of bureaucracy and engineering that is required to make that menu on demand every single day at thousands of places around the country. Why can we not mobilize like this for climate change, but we can to get your Tex-Mex egg rolls to come out within five minutes of ordering them? It's not profitable. All right, let's take a quick break. We'll be right back. All right, let's take a quick break. We'll be right back. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series,
Starting point is 00:11:34 Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. questions like, how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? Starting point is 00:13:12 but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. How do you feel about biscuits? Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit, where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky
Starting point is 00:13:39 and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the Biscuits. I was a lady Rebel. Like, what does that even mean? The Boone County Rebels will stay the Boone County Rebels with the image of the Biscuits. It's right here in black and white in print. A lion.
Starting point is 00:13:57 An individual that came to the school saying that God sent him to talk to me about the mascot switch. As a leader, you choose hills that you want to die on. Why would we want to be the losing team? I'd just take all the other stuff out of it. On the segregation academies, when civil rights said that we need to integrate public schools, these charter schools were exempt from that. Bigger than a flag or mascot. You have to be ready for serious backlash.
Starting point is 00:14:24 Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. When you think of Mexican culture, you think of avocado, mariachi, delicious cuisine, and of course lucha libre.
Starting point is 00:14:39 It doesn't get more Mexican than this. Lucha libre is known globally because it is much more than just a sport and much more than just entertainment. Lucha Libre is known globally because it is much more than just a sport and much more than just entertainment. Lucha Libre is a type of storytelling. It's a dance. It's tradition. It's culture.
Starting point is 00:14:51 This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask, a 12-episode podcast in both English and Spanish about the history and cultural richness of Lucha Libre. And I'm your host, Santos Escobar, the emperor of Lucha Libre and a WWE superstar. Join me as we learn more about the history behind this spectacular sport from its inception in the United States to how it became a global symbol of Mexican culture. We'll learn more about some of the most iconic heroes in the ring. This is Lucha Libre Behind the Mask. Listen to Lucha Libre Behind the Mask
Starting point is 00:15:25 as part of My Cultura Podcast Network on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you stream podcasts. And we're back. And My Sharona is trending. Yeah, someone on, this is a trending thing on Twitter. My Sharona is trending because someone tweeted a pick between trending thing on twitter my sharona is trending because
Starting point is 00:15:45 someone tweeted a like pick between my sharona by the knack or roxanne by the police and a lot of people are saying they are they love that underage thirst love song uh which one is the underage thirst love song i actually didn't know either of those were oh dude my shirona it is oh the lyrics never gonna stop give it up such a dirty mind i always get it up for the touch of the younger kind my my my boy didn't didn't catch that yeah because the story's about like a high school girl he fell in love with. Man. But a lot of popular music. I remember the first time I caught it, there was a song that was on adult contemporary listening when I was a kid. And my parents still controlled the radio.
Starting point is 00:16:38 And it opens like, She's just 16 years old. Right. Leave her alone, they say say i was like yo at a certain point you sound like a full-grown man my guy like you can say well there's a funny ass tiktok sketch there where it's the manager in the recording on the other side of the recording booth when they're singing that they're like yo yo i'm sorry what the fuck he just say he only gets it up for the touch of the younger kind okay and even then it's like it's not even really talking about her it sounds like he's just generally saying like you know me
Starting point is 00:17:15 yeah you know this guy it's not just this one time for me it's uh it's kind of my thing i mean i always get it up for the touch of the younger kind let's turn it into a fun man that song is catchy as fuck it's a wild because everybody who's talking about it as I look through the tweets I have not
Starting point is 00:17:38 seen really one reference about who Sharona is and how he met her when she was in high school and everyone's like it's just so bouncy he's like also about who Sharona is and how he met her when she was in high school. And everyone's like, it's just so bouncy. He's like, also, I just can't stand Sting's voice and the way he sings Roxanne.
Starting point is 00:17:53 I'm like, yo, Roxanne all fucking day. Right. Yeah. I mean, Roxanne is pro sex work, I think. It's sex positive. Yeah, because he's talking about falling in love with a sex worker. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:05 I mean, I don't know if there's like anything. I mean, I love you since I knew you. I also have not analyzed the lyrics of that. I just know that it's about him singing. I mean, he says that right there.
Starting point is 00:18:13 I love you since I knew you. I wouldn't talk down to you. I have to tell you just how I feel. I won't share you with another boy. You know what I mean? He's just trying to be a little possessive. A little possessive. Look, you know, you either respect
Starting point is 00:18:24 what they're doing for the living or like, just realize don't get in their way. But yeah, my Sharona, uh, I think the other thing is too, like, I,
Starting point is 00:18:31 I wonder if like for some people, like the police are just too ethnic because a lot of their shit was like reggae ish where it's like, do, do, do, do, do,
Starting point is 00:18:41 do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do,
Starting point is 00:18:43 do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do,
Starting point is 00:18:43 do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do,
Starting point is 00:18:43 do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do,
Starting point is 00:18:44 do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do,
Starting point is 00:18:44 do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do-do-de-de-do-de-do-de-do-do-de is easy for people than that little offbeat shit from the police, but whatever. Oh, so my Sharona is not by the people who sing I Would Walk 5,000 Miles?
Starting point is 00:18:56 Hmm. That is something my brain did. I was like, those are the same. Oh, for real? Yeah, for some reason. We're going to go lump those are the same. Oh, for real? Yeah, for some reason. It's just like, yep. We're going to go lump those into the same. Right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:10 My Sharona is by a L.A. band and came out in 1979. Anyways, Trump is trending. Who's this? What's this? This guy actually officially, formally has been, they have issued their subpoena for big old donald trump to come on down saying hey turn over the documents by november 4th and appear for a deposition on november 14th again like most things dealing with our legal system and trump fuckery we'll see we'll see where that goes but they don't know they they're now saying like well
Starting point is 00:19:46 now we're doing it we're not just you know they they voted like last time we heard that they unanimously voted now the formal issuing of the subpoena has happened but we'll see uh and then black adam as promised dwayne the rock johnson's dc universe movie made its Thursday night, uh, premiere last night. And it was bringing in the, that boffo BO miles. Really? It's like seven point.
Starting point is 00:20:14 So it like none of this, like is a guarantee that it's going to stay this popular through the weekend. But I think it bested fast and the Furious 6, Hobbs and Shaw and even F9 which I guess he wasn't in but still like for comparison sake F9 like did incredibly well at the box office
Starting point is 00:20:33 and was also like kind of in the post pandemic times so people think this one it's also like each big movie that comes out is coming out as like the only big new movie for a couple weeks you know right so i feel like that's helping yeah i i like there's a couple vox said black adam movie review the rock deserved better uh black adam reviewed duane johnson's dc superhero movie rides the lightning but fizzles
Starting point is 00:21:06 out oh um yeah the the reviews seem to be mid jack how about this four things parents should know about black adam that's that's what i'm talking about that's i just need to know what the parents should know i yeah i'm actually really i think this is the more useful one one it is an anti-hero movie. Don't expect Johnson's Black Adam character to exhibit the qualities of Superman, Wonder Woman, or even cop in disguise Batman.
Starting point is 00:21:33 Okay, morally ambiguous. Okay, fine. Next, two, it introduces other superheroes too. Okay, thank you. Three, it's about justice, revenge, and redemption. Is it? And finally, it's four, it's about justice revenge and redemption is it and finally it's before it's quite violent right yeah i mean that that's what i got from the trailer um it's interesting to me the idea of believe he is a superhero uh like his
Starting point is 00:22:11 fans seem to believe he is a superhuman i did so like the idea of elevating him to superhuman it's like well what superpowers does this person have that the rock doesn't already have. Right. Because he claims to be able to just scale skyscrapers in his other movies. That's at least the claim. It's like, this is a superhuman being. But I guess the idea here is that Black Adam is a god also. So maybe that's where we get the step up. Hey, also, I don't want to spoil the film for you,
Starting point is 00:22:44 but this list about what parents need to know, it also does give you some naughty language counts. You're going to, again, spoiler alert, you will hear the word piss twice, the word bastards once, tell three
Starting point is 00:22:59 times, shit, really, I don't mean to say it like that that but I just want to emphasize that for the parents shit is said five times people need to hear what's happening ass is said three times and damn is said once so you know do with that
Starting point is 00:23:16 what you will but obviously keep your kids and your family safe this weekend um it's funny to like see just see the list of bad words out of context because i'm sure it's all in like the most innocuous way yeah you know those bastards would know blah blah blah piss in my ass because when you just see the list next to each other right he's like piss in my ass i'm doing ass piss again yeah i gotta eating from that place pissing out of my ass again after
Starting point is 00:23:45 damn these bastards are pissing ass all over this hell place damn my shit these bastards Super Producer Brian said he's waiting for his jingle all the way reboot I get that but I don't The Rock he can't be smiley
Starting point is 00:24:03 or like he needs to play a fucking loser guy who, despite maybe... I don't know. There's so much more complexity he can offer, but I think he's always like, I've never had problems. I've never had problems. My life is great and I'm very confident. Fuck out of here. That's actually
Starting point is 00:24:21 a perfect distillation of his entire persona. Never had any problems. Any problem is just a challenge for me to defeat with my 3am workouts. And, uh, exactly. Don't be a candy ass.
Starting point is 00:24:35 Exactly. This has been the rock. Check out this tattoo. Yeah. I mean, I've heard through the grapevine that the movie is somewhat boring. So whatever it is, I just can't fuck.
Starting point is 00:24:44 I'm sorry. I keep saying I can't keep up with all these motherfucking comic book films. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, that is the, that is officially make something interesting. How about like black air force ones,
Starting point is 00:24:56 you know, and just, and the people who know they know, and we'll go see it. Cause it sounds fucking absurd, but it's a super villain that puts on a pair of black Air Force 1s and becomes a fucking... It's like Venom and shit. Takes over you.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Black Panther Wakanda Forever is debuting November 11th. And people are projecting $175 million opening weekend. See, numbers I'm used to hearing. Those are the good old days before the pandemic hearing, like those are pre the good old days before the pandemic. The good old days. The good old days. Used to be like,
Starting point is 00:25:28 with 20 million, this film's cooking. And you're like, what? That used to be a death sentence. I just saw the, I saw a movie last night, Decision to Leave,
Starting point is 00:25:38 a really cool Korean movie by the director of Oldboy. Oh, yeah, yeah. Yeah, highly recommend. But the Wakanda Forever trailer played before the movie and got me going, got me excited.
Starting point is 00:25:51 You're like, hey, can we see that instead? There's a bunch of art house movies and then Wakanda Forever. I was like, yep, this fits. This works. It's wild when some film franchises are so big,
Starting point is 00:26:00 like they break through even when you go to see like an indie film or like a limited release film and it's like hey but we look they paid enough to get this trailer in here so you're gonna have to know it's coming out yeah it does like i do think a suite of the rock remaking arnold schwarzenegger movies that like super producer brian is suggesting with the jingle all the way does make sense
Starting point is 00:26:26 because they're working with the same sort of superhuman Mr. Universe like big body build and general vibe type thing. I do. I think you're right though. It would be interesting to see if he could pull off the comedy of being vulnerable and being like
Starting point is 00:26:41 at the end of his rope. He needs like a punch drunk love yeah you know i mean let's see where let's see that moment let's see what you got if not look then just keep making your you know macho meathead man movies or whatever instead of slamming a single screen door and breaking the glass just the entire neighborhood lays in ruins after he gets pissed off. Um, all right. Those are some of the things that are trending on this Friday,
Starting point is 00:27:11 October 21st. We are back on Monday with a whole ass episode of the show until then be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves, get the vaccine, get the flu shot. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to y'all on Monday.
