Hello, the Internet, and welcome to this episode of Breaking and Trendering. It's our crime short show title suite, courtesy of Johnny Davis. I am Jack.
Starting point is 00:02:13 You're Miles, I believe. Is that correct? Mm-hmm. Would you say you're Miles? I would, and I will. um that's my ode to the supreme court uh interrogation that is happening uh that is very very um exhausting i can't imagine what it's like to actually go through this bullshit but anyways stick to podcasting uh yeah i think i was thinking about trying to become the next supreme court justice i told you jack i told you to stay calmer waters oh fuck um all right
Starting point is 00:02:56 i love i love the idea i would watch that movie about some person who's like light bulb you know what i want to be a supreme court justice because they can't be fired they can't be exactly do you have a law degree yeah nice try asshole you can't it's someone who was like a bar exam away from becoming a lawyer and then like some federalist society type group like plucks them like okay pass your bar and we'll fast track you to the supreme court oh it's like it's a real thing called amy coney barrett or something all right what are the movies where somebody accidentally becomes president like man of the year abe dave oh dave i thought you were talking about abraham lincoln no no no the yeah what chris chris klein right Or what's his name?
Starting point is 00:03:45 Kevin Klein. Kevin Klein. Sorry. Chris. The great Christopher Klein, my other favorite Klein. Some would argue that Christopher Klein's career overshadowed Kevin Klein's. Can't really say who's the better thespian, but the history books will judge. That cocaine audition tape.
Starting point is 00:04:05 That cocaine audition tape. Yeah. That cocaine. Yeah. If you haven't watched Chris Klein's cocaine audition tape, do yourself a favor and continue to never see it. But everyone's like, he was in a real bad time in his life. And I'm like, and I know. But you know what? When it came out, I had no empathy.
Starting point is 00:04:19 And I was just like, this guy's on cocaine at a Mamma Mia audition. That's something you don't need to watch uh you you already get it and don't poison your general vibes with the bad vibes of that yeah of that video cool all right let's uh let's tell the people what's trending shall we go ahead shall we miles go up go on right ahead. First up. New Orleans is trending because, yeah, a massive tornado swept through New Orleans, knocked out power, just really scary shit. I mean, it happened that night, but there is some footage,
Starting point is 00:05:00 and it is a big tornado, and the aftermath is horrifying. God, is there, like like one place in this country that you're completely like you found a way to not be threatened by some kind of natural disaster? Like it's not tornadoes, it's flooding or fires or earthquakes or super storms. Yeah. Or terrible drought. How are y'all doing in Utah?ah i feel like utah has been hanging in there there's probably some some earthquakes every once in a while yeah i know there's utah's gangland sorry yeah you have fires do you have overall uh in bad earth shits happening to you
Starting point is 00:05:40 yeah my kids are at that stage where they're fascinated by like any like destructive force of nature and they you know they feel robbed that we will never have like hurricanes not never uh in until uh global warming uh right affects the climate to the point that we we have like in just incinerating fire tornadoes they're like these tornadoes caught fire and they're the and they're basically satan's pinky just scorching the earth yeah but uh earthquakes you know southern california buckle up young man yeah you'll get one eventually that's for sure and, you talk about you wanted to be around those tornadoes. So the first time I heard a tornado
Starting point is 00:06:27 siren and I almost died because I couldn't handle what was happening because all I knew was Twister and I didn't have no other sort of basis for comparison for my reality. And I was like, is this okay? Is this the part where it's an F5? And they're like, no, it's all good, man. Just
Starting point is 00:06:42 calm the fuck down. But anyways, sending good energy to the people of new orleans right all right so we talk about this a little bit on tomorrow's episode but we we do have to talk about the lollapalooza performer that we missed fuck it gets it's i when someone i think a few people tweeted this at us and i was like wait what and it all i thought it was a joke at first but no fiction can be fun actually yeah so this is a performer who used to go by the it's a electronic music dj who used to go by the name d soul uh now goes has just been like mask off it's me that's right david solomon um who you might know as the 60 year old ceo of goldman sachs i think we mentioned that this dude was trying to be a dj when he like headlined a show in the hamptons that oh that's
Starting point is 00:07:44 right he actually he opened for the chain smokers yeah that covid festival right yeah and it ended up being a covid fest and he issued a very dry statement about his disappointment that not everybody was uh adhering to the guidelines at the sick party that he was overseeing with his godlike powers as a dj but this person ceo david solomon uh overseeing record-breaking profits this is a story that is getting picked up by the likes of cnn wall street journal this is like the dream of like if um you know if 60 year old white men got to like were the only people in charge of making movies oh wait sorry uh if uh six-year-old white men were the only people in charge of making movies and they had no feedback or repercussions from audiences this is the only movie that would ever get made but so this ceo uh who's killing it on wall street
Starting point is 00:08:46 must say overseeing record-breaking profits as the head of one of the biggest banks in the u.s uh that's what he does by day but by night he uh likes to have a little batman-like alter ego uh used to be diesel uh but now he's like nah nah, fuck it, it's me, David Solomon. If Mike Jones did it, you know, I think he thinks of himself as like the other, you know, he's like Armin Van Helden or Armin Van Buren or, you know, like I want to use my full name. I want people to know just to cut to the chase,
Starting point is 00:09:22 this is who I am, I don't need gimmicks. I'm David Solomon, the CEO of coldman sax and em edm artist he i think has convinced himself like i'm just pretty freaking good at this stuff guys and that's that's the dang truth like so i'm just gonna put my name out there he does about like six to seven shows a year and in no way connected to the fact that he has the money and power to like make or break any of these people's careers at any given moment the performance we alluded to earlier was in the hamptons yes it is the closest that modern america gets to the sky colony from elysium but uh it's still you know it's still a real a real notch on his resume as a edm dj i did listen to one of his songs on youtube oh shit i
Starting point is 00:10:16 can't express the relief i felt when i realized it i did not like it because had i listened to that and liked it i think i would have had to leave my family and start over again just question everything yeah like we're just like wander into the ocean muttering with like rocks in my pockets like y'all if if jack is not on the show the week the days on like before and after loollapalooza it's because david tallman dropped some hot because he went and jack's now following him like a dead head um yeah man that that would have been i don't i don't think i could have recovered my personal sense of self if i like listened i was like what have we gotten any insight into how he ended up here? Because in my mind, the really lazy assessment is you're running Goldman Sachs. You're having like an old guy crisis.
Starting point is 00:11:12 You're around some of your younger employees who are like these cool finance guys who are flying off cocaine. And one of them had a DJ set up like at one of their parties. And then he's like, hey, man, what's that? This is pretty cool. And he's like, I can kind of get into this like it seems like a weird hobby that a younger person like you know what i mean that's what he said he said he got into it as a hobby i think he claims during the pandemic but i mean clearly the dream was there before yeah i have to imagine burning man was involved in some respect like he was in the ceo tent at burning man and like you know started spinning and people were like hey man killer edm so what i do i just match the numbers of the songs what's
Starting point is 00:11:54 this bpm so that's the beats per minute oh and if they're the same number then that's easy to mix between the two songs oh okay so i'll just match the numbers and then i'll crossfade okay great i'm a dj now but it it's dangerous what he's doing because if he does accidentally make a good song people people need like i i don't know what you do with yourself if you listen to a song by the ceo of golden sacks and you're like fuck like this is really putting some honey in the hips his music does sound like it was made by an algorithm it sounds like absolute shit you know what it is he's paying some other person
Starting point is 00:12:30 he's paying some other person to make it and he doesn't have good enough taste to have someone ghost produce it so it is appropriately like this does actually make for a good like piece of satire because I think the entire American experiment as it has evolved over the past,
Starting point is 00:12:48 like 50 years is all about like just people distracting themselves from their inherent, like fear slash realization that they're going to die like through capitalism and accumulation. And then like, I feel like EDM music kind of has that same vibe and so like just somebody being like i need it all i can't it can't just be the money i need to dj the uh irresponsibly lavish parties that i'm throwing you know what it is need to
Starting point is 00:13:18 control it all exactly it's that it's it's watching another like an actual popular DJ just come rock an audience of tens of thousands of people. And from their perch in the DJ booth, looking out at that sea of people, that's the fucking high he's chasing. Is that he wants to look out and be like, y'all, you dance to my rhythm, not just the just not my financial fuckery that makes people dance to a different rhythm of survival yeah controls the crowd all right madeline albright passed away from cancer at 84 um first one woman yeah secretary secretary of state once yelled at my college girlfriend uh for having her car parked in front of her place or something. I forget. Yeah. And then was she then telling your college girlfriend why,
Starting point is 00:14:09 uh, the UN sat around, did nothing during the Rwandan genocide and how that's really not her problem. Yeah. I mean, she, she did weird. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:18 Just segued into that. It was amazing. He's like, also I'm not responsible for what happened in Rwanda. I'm just the secretary of state here yeah don't ask me about sanctions and wherever i'm i think that what's really interesting is like secretaries of state have one of you take the word you don't want to be a secretary of state because you're the face of our demonic foreign policy uh and we were all just looking like is there ever good secretary of
Starting point is 00:14:46 state really not really not really so um anyways uh let's take a quick break and we'll come back i'm jess casaveto executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high-control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new,
Starting point is 00:15:40 chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Saner. Like you miss 100% of the shots you never take. Yeah. Rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself. Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career

In 1982, Atari players had one thing on their minds, Sword Quest. This wasn't just a new game. Atari promised 150 grand in prizes to four finalists, but the prizes disappeared. And what started as a video game promotion became one of the most controversial moments in 80s pop culture. I just don't believe they exist. I mean, my reaction, shock and awe. That sword was amazing. It was so beautiful. I'm Jamie Loftus. Join me this spring for The Legend of Sword Quest, a podcast about the fall of Atari and the disappearing sword quest prizes.
Starting point is 00:17:44 We'll follow the quest for lost treasure across four decades. It's almost like a metaphor for the industry and Atari itself in a way. Listen to The Legend of Sword Quest on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts, separated by two months. These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S.
Starting point is 00:18:28 president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. The story of one strange and violent summer. This is Rip Current.

And we're back and paul manafort got dragged off a plane trying to fly uh with an expired passport to i believe dubai yeah revoked passport i'm sorry yeah all right that's a whole other level yeah um but yeah nice try though yeah good to see that he's still still out here what are you doing in dubai who are you linking up with who you trying to link with who trying to build with over there are you trying to flee something here i don't know um there was that guy the january 6th guy one of the january 6th guys who like fled to belarus like who like crawled on his like belly through the muck and mud to like flee his like charges from
Starting point is 00:19:47 January 6 he got he got into like a special Belarusian like citizenship and they're protecting him from being yeah but it's like wow sick country you picked Lukashenko is probably going to be like hey man so you ever think about joining the armed
Starting point is 00:20:03 forces because Putin's kind of demanding that from us. Anyway, welcome to Belarus. Yeah, yeah. The fallout continues at Disney with the Disney staffer walkout over the handling of the Don't Say Gay bill. And Raven-Symonone joined the walkout there was also an av club headline that was like disney employee oscar isaac tweets or says gay gay gay gay gay so brave disney employee oscar isaac well you know because he's in uh that disney Moon. Moon Night. Good night. They're completely...
Starting point is 00:20:48 This is the problem when you have this multinational company trying to be like, we're going to do the right thing. You're too big to do the right thing. Unfortunately, that's kind of how this always works. Yeah. Apple's like... I think i saw a statistic today
Starting point is 00:21:07 that they're six times the size of disney apple is yeah like in a financial sense yeah apple six x them dude oh man that's so tight dude i'm about to tell that to desol when i go to his house he's got a new mixer got that new rain mixer so he's gonna show me some sick shit on there nice um ig is now back to chronological order oh which just in time for me to not go look ever again yeah this means like it's not going to show me the coolest posts the most viral shit right away i don't know it's showing me shit that's when you always know when it's like 10 minutes ago then it's like one day ago i'm like that's not chronological and then the next one's 43 minutes ago come on now i i mean at this point like i feel like i'm just seeing tiktoks be regurgitated onto instagram and then obviously the usual fare with the people you try and keep
Starting point is 00:22:06 up with. So cool. I mean they're trying. I don't know for what though. The Daniels the directors of the Turn Down For What music video and Swiss Army Man
Starting point is 00:22:22 Swiss Army Man was their first feature length I think. dana ragliff playing a dead body or was yeah yeah um who you know paul dano like like says like can see that he's alive and all he does is fart a lot which is kind of why i like laughed a lot throughout it because it's so much farting but they have next movie, six years later, comes out next couple days. It's called Everything Everywhere All at Once. It is about the multiverse, and it is getting good reviews.
Starting point is 00:22:51 So that's something I'm personally excited about. I mean, they're a visual gang, those two Danielses together. So I have a feeling that's something that came out pretty well. The Dan-yai. Yeah, sorry. All right, well, those are some of the things that are trending on this Wednesday afternoon. We are back tomorrow with the whole last episode of the show.
Starting point is 00:23:13 Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we will talk to you all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. Bye. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradenti.
