That is Miles.
Starting point is 00:02:28 Got him. Got him. Bridgerton is trending right now for a stupid reason we'll talk about in a moment. A horny reason. It is so horny right now. But here are some things that are trending on this fine wednesday afternoon september the first happy september to you sir oh thank you and to you as well yeah maderna is trending moderna m-a-d-e-r-n-a somebody tried to get into hawaii with a fake vaccination card that said maderna wow um yeah what a we just when
Starting point is 00:03:10 you're talking about fake vaccine cards and all this other shit there's been a slew of headlines today of people getting caught buying fake shit selling fake shit or in this case misspelling the name of a vaccine and did you look at the vaccine card that she turned in yeah it was very scribbly it was scribbly it was all in her shit handwriting so like both shots were it was like all writ clearly all written at the same time in the same pen and it feels like you're catching your like three-year- old cheating at a game or something. You're like, oh, it's kind of cute that you're trying. But it is going to ruin society as we know it.
Starting point is 00:03:56 So we're going to have to put you in jail, unfortunately. Yeah. So they thought something was up, scanned it in when she was entering Hawaii. And then, sure enough, they weren't able to find her in Delaware, in the Delaware database. And so when she came back to the airport for her return flight, they got her. They arrested her. Damn. Turns out they actually checked them shits.
Starting point is 00:04:21 Yeah. They go, well, first off, there's no such vaccine as the spungo and this appears to be printed on some kind of cracker yeah so a very spungo-esque attempt at a vaccine uh faking yeah um hate to see it hate to see it elijah mclean is trending uh the attorney attorney general who had been named as a special prosecutor in the case announced a 32 count indictment almost exactly two years to the day after he was murdered by the police and paramedics. He was just walking home like one of the kindest, like most gentle humans i've ever seen on video and they like grabbed him
Starting point is 00:05:09 and beat him and then injected him with a ketamine ketamine yeah so yeah three cops two paramedics have been charged i think with manslaughter and a few other things like that. Oh man. The fact that like, you know, this was, this was the first form of disciplinary action that these people faced since the incident happened. Yeah. Um,
Starting point is 00:05:34 two years. They've just been like two years. Just it's been on the back burner. Uh, and it's, yeah, it's, it's fucking sad,
Starting point is 00:05:41 man. And again, this is just somebody who was just going home with an iced tea to take to a family member and you know this is this is the tragic outcome so yeah uh i hope this is some form of relief uh for his family but yeah i guess you know it takes it takes a minute but some eventually sometimes justice is served. Yeah, sometimes. I do think there's a lot of outrage around this case, which is good because they actually did the obviously right thing.
Starting point is 00:06:18 And then The Bachelorette is trending. They announced the most recent Bachelorette like it with a commercial last night and um people were pointing out that so apparently they really wanted uh michelle to to be the bachelorette and michelle is a teacher and she was like uh i actually have to teach because it's the school year uh so i will not be the bachelorette um and they basically changed the entire schedule of the bachelorette uh to accommodate her and uh to kind of run out the clock in between they gave us a season with someone named katie she was jack if i mean you remember she was the girl with the vibrator the vibrator queen yeah remember and she waved it in
Starting point is 00:07:12 mari's face when she was talking about being worried about her grandmother in puerto rico after the hurricane at the most opportune time of course um of course yeah yeah. Yeah. No, Katie, dude, I know people were just, people were just comparing like how they announced the two, um, Michelle, who is clearly the favorite. It was high production value, like, you know, a Royal weddings worth of flowers and just beautifully shot, uh, soft glow, you know, uh, on Michelle coming down a winding staircase and a mansion. And then, uh, Katie got a, uh, Hanes t-shirt, uh, with a catch phrase that literally nobody ever said, uh, be a Katie. Um, so it's, and's and and no like she's not flatteringly uh shot in any way and uh yeah it's kind of funny yeah i mean i i think when watching that last season of the bachelor that
Starting point is 00:08:20 she was on everyone liked michelle i certainly liked her because she was like the most human contestant i had seen and maybe the in total for me i've only seen maybe about three seasons of the show but in looking at the history of past contestants like she struck me as such a genuine person that part of me is like oh god please don't get ruined by this tv shit because you're a good like a real life good teacher who like whose students like need her or need them or need you so please um but yeah good for her i'm glad she's got the she's got the budget though she's getting the budget dollars yeah um all right let's take a quick break and we'll be right back In 1982, Atari players had one thing on their minds.
Starting point is 00:09:08 Sword Quest. This wasn't just a new game. Atari promised $150,000 in prizes to four finalists. But the prizes disappeared. And what started as a video game promotion became one of the most controversial moments in 80s pop culture. I just don't believe they exist. My reaction, shock and awe.
Starting point is 00:09:29 That sword was amazing. It was so beautiful. I'm Jamie Loftus. Join me this spring for The Legend of Sword Quest, a podcast about the fall of Atari and the disappearing Sword Quest prizes. We'll follow the quest for lost treasure across four decades. It's almost like a metaphor for the industry and Atari itself in a way. Listen to The Legend of Sword Quest on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. This summer, the nation watched as the Republican nominee for president was the target of two assassination attempts, separated by two months.
Starting point is 00:10:09 These events were mirrored nearly 50 years ago, when President Gerald Ford faced two attempts on his life in less than three weeks. President Gerald R. Ford came stunningly close to being the victim of an assassin today. And these are the only two times we know of that a woman has tried to assassinate a U.S. president. One was the protege of infamous cult leader Charles Manson. I always felt like Lynette was kind of his right-hand woman. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI in a violent revolutionary underground. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore.
Starting point is 00:10:44 The story of one strange and violent summer. Thank you. be the real talk on drugs. But it's time we know the facts. Fentanyl is often laced into illicit drugs and used to make fake versions of prescription pills. You can't see it, taste it, or smell it. Suppliers mix fentanyl into their products because it's potent and cheap, and the dealer might not even know. Keep yourself and others safe by knowing the real deal on fentanyl. Get the facts. Go to realdealonfentanyl.com. This message is brought to you by the Ad Council. Daphne Caruana Galizia was a Maltese investigative journalist who on October 16th, 2017, was murdered. There are crooks everywhere you look now. The situation is desperate.
Starting point is 00:11:43 My name is Manuel Delia. I am one of the hosts of Crooks Everywhere, a podcast that unhurts the plot to murder a one-woman WikiLeaks. Daphne exposed the culture of crime and corruption that were turning her beloved country into a mafia state. And she paid the ultimate price. Listen to Crooks Everywhere starting September 25th on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:12:23 And we're back. And all right, let's get to bridgerton uh as best i can tell miles bridgerton is trending uh because they announced the actor who's being cast in lady chatterly's lover they cast the woman who played uh diana in last season of The Crown. And Bridgerton is trending because people are like, oh, it's going to be steamier than Bridgerton. Oh, yeah, it's so hot. Like, just wait. So people just are horny for the actress that played Lady Diana, like that played Diana.
Starting point is 00:13:02 And I don't know if. Yeah, it's just like so much being made about the lady chatterly's lover which is just a a novel about somebody having an affair but apparently it has like real uh real steamy scenes uh for the 1920s but every headline is like this shit is steamier than bridgerton uh so yeah you're gonna see this chick naked it's kind of the vibe that you're getting from the headlines they're like dude you know i know my bros have read lady chatterly's lover you know what's up you know what's up but okay cool yeah all right so this is oh but it's also still on
Starting point is 00:13:48 netflix so look at look at that keeping it on the netflix family yeah netflix knows right they they're like you guys are horny so let's do it they're horny ride it this wave of horniness might as well straight to the bank to offset the 500 million they paid for seinfeld i know they like at that point money is fake right like money's just that's not money's been fake money's that's not real yeah exurbs are trending because a bunch of suburbs and like exurbs i don't even know the difference between those two but they are being flooded with people who fled cities during the pandemic bunch of traffic schools are a mess they're overcrowded and i point and laugh at them should have should have stuck it out cities are
Starting point is 00:14:40 better well wait an exurb is an area outside the typically denser inner suburban area of a metropolitan area. Got it. So it's the super suburbs. It's like extra suburban. Yeah. Exactly. Superburbs. Suburbs.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Okay. Well, I mean, what? They're just, it's just bad? okay well i mean what they're just just it's just bad yeah there's just all these articles about like this town used to be known for just being the site of a civil war battle and like a tennessee state school but now it's like swamped and the locals are pissed it's just yeah there's a lot of movement going on like that i mean i was just watching this other thing recently about um one of those towns in colorado that's mostly like for vacationers but like people who like wealthy people have just been driving up the cost of real estate i mean
Starting point is 00:15:37 this is happening everywhere and there's no one there to serve them because they've priced out people who would have been working like wage jobs like like in town, like service jobs. So it's just like created this like ghost town where like people are like just sitting on real estate, not there. Plus there isn't affordable housing for people. This is again, like we're just, we got the pedal to the metal with just how backwards all of our like regulations and laws are as it relates to what are people owed like what do people deserve because doing the thing was like well man i mean if you can afford it i mean that works to a point but we're now seeing especially with the pandemic just the massive inequality that's happening and we're still kind of like i don't know i'm like i
Starting point is 00:16:21 guess you can evict people whatever do they is affordable housing a thing we need to actually think about is the government to be able to provide people or regulate uh you know how many people can just come in and like sit on properties and not do anything with them that's really funny though to think about like a bunch of rich people out there and then the starbucks and everything is just closed like yeah i can't they're like fine i guess i'm gonna do it and they're like yeah i'll take the job that's fine if i have this what yeah it doesn't matter i have i have i'm retired anyway so this will give me something to do from nine to five what i have to come in at five oh god to five fuck all right uh well you know like my last hours like my last job you know
Starting point is 00:17:07 hours with the 11 to 2 exactly um and 11 is this i'm there for the hour before lunch we hit lunch and then i stay for an hour then i go home i'm there for the conversation about what we should have for lunch right yeah yeah but they're saying in 2020 net migration into a large group of exurban counties rose 37%, according to an analysis of us postal service, a change of address data and nearly two thirds of the flow came from large cities and their close in suburbs. This is coming from the wall street journal though,
Starting point is 00:17:44 who is part of the kind of you know center right like media block that is obsessed with being like california's fucked everybody's gonna die in california and then y'all will all be laughing at you you bunch of hippies and then california showed a what is it they they made like way more money and didn't have any debt for the year i think that really pissed on their parade so now they're rejiggering the story to just be like cities fuck you fuck you city oh man it's just yeah all all of this tension that some people can put their finger on and other people can't and just turns into some other weird hot take
Starting point is 00:18:30 that has nothing to do with what they're experiencing. But welcome to Commie-fornia. Thank you. And finally, Top Gun, Mission Impossible, and most tragically of all, Jackass forever are all trending they've all been pushed back thanks a lot fucking anti-vax delta delta delta burke from designing women yeah um yeah look top gun they went from it was supposed to come out in november 19th 2021 you're gonna get that shit may 27th 2022 mission impossible uh you thought you
Starting point is 00:19:06 were gonna get that may 27th 2022 well we're just gonna okay you still get a tom cruise movie on may 27th 2022 but the mission impossible one will now move to september 30th of 2022 and now jackass has moved from october of this year to february of next year and we were just talking about my calendar man yeah fucking i mean that's just one of those things when you watch that trailer i'm look we we saw it we're like oh this is fucking stupid and i like it so stupid um but yeah i mean it it's I don't know. As we talked about on yesterday's episode, they won't do a vaccine requirement for movie theaters. And it doesn't really make sense to me. It seems like they're worried about the politics instead of worried about the the bottom line, if you know what I'm saying.
Starting point is 00:20:04 the politics instead of worried about the uh the bottom line if you know what i'm saying but yeah i think a vaccine requirement is like that still covers most of the country like most of us got the vaccine we good yeah um just keep theaters open let people go to movies uh who actually believe in science um but well then instead we're just going to keep bumping shit out. Can you imagine how pissed Tom Cruise is right now? You saw him while out on that crew for not wearing masks. I'm surprised he doesn't go and fuck a bunch of people up with that big Scientology energy. Yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:20:44 I wonder if this has him thinking. What does Scientology believe? Do you think they're, because they're anti any sort of psychiatric stuff, but. I don't think they have a heartache. Who knows? I wouldn't be surprised either way. But more than that,
Starting point is 00:20:58 like I know what Tom Cruise's idea is and he wants to make money off of his movies and he wants people to see him be old and you know spry at the same time so I feel like this might energize him he's like so I got to thinking how are we going to convince these people I'm like whatever
Starting point is 00:21:16 the fuck he does so yeah alright well those are the things that are trending on this Wednesday afternoon we are back tomorrow with the whole ass episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine.
Starting point is 00:21:31 Don't do nothing about white supremacy. And we'll talk to you all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. Hi, everyone. It's me, Katie Couric.
