Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports. Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's basketball. And on this new season, we'll cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio apps, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:01:57 The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Hello, the Internet, and welcome to this episode of comic book zeit the simpsons character comic book zeit uh it's like worst title ever the simps trends um yes absolutely yeah uh i think we nailed that one yeah all right let's just end it there it is sometimes you got the comedy you came for okay sometimes we just like to if look if we run out of stuff to talk about we don't belabor the point we just cut the show off and sometimes we do short episodes shout out the guardian they clearly big listeners uh all right so we up first we have a trend uh from the world of TikTok, courtesy of super producer Becca. NYC TikTok is going crazy over some dude named West Elm Caleb, who is just an average run-of-the-mill white guy with mustache.
Starting point is 00:03:01 So, you know, I don't know how you call that average. Oh, right, Brooklyn. with mustache so you know i don't know how you call that average oh right brooklyn uh but he apparently dresses nice uh is terrorizing primarily uh white women uh and he's just basically love bombing them you know hooking up and then ghosting them and so it's you know a tiktok being used as a public service to inform others uh that you know so steer clear this fellow and it's true like this guy's a wrongdoer is he kind of like couch guy who a few clips and then a narrative takes over and now he's like i'm going through a lot emotionally you know i wasn't at my best when i was dating these people or he's kind of a trash dude seems like he's a trash dude like this west elm caleb like that's his whole house he works at west elm oh shit okay all right um apparently he
Starting point is 00:03:57 will date a woman for six weeks uh and then ghost them so it's not like it's not just like a one yeah right so on tiktok there are a bunch of like see people seem to be like aggregating different anecdotes and stories about their interactions with west on caleb and now it's like it's it's i guess it's revealing that he's quite uh prolific quite prolific and then there's this uh new york times uh author who oh uh super producer becca pointed out overlapping dating timeline so he's not a monogamous predator he's uh i've this is actually a a story i've heard elsewhere i've read about dudes who target i i think the article i'd read before was a asian woman talking about how this is like actually somewhat common that like you'll have people who are doing sort of a copy and paste
Starting point is 00:04:56 like dating app kind of numbers game on you yeah yeah run the script and then but like that eventually you find out oh this person that i was dating for a little while is actually a shitty predator who's like playing a weird uh numbers game yeah that's the weird thing about the those dating sites think well thank whatever god that exists that i'm found a partner that i'm that i'm not on those apps because when my friends are talking about it i'm like i don't know i don't know what to tell you it wasn't good enough that you you were honest about where you are oh shit and then on the other side of it you have people like this like trawler mentality where it's like i'm just gonna trawl the seas and
Starting point is 00:05:41 just chum the fuck out of these waters and i don't these aren't human beings these are just fuck fish yeah a couple things uh in the realm of pop culture that are trending uh coming soon uh the coming soon segment uh avatar 2 am i right now that's oh hell yeah i'm not gonna just keep talking about right back to uh i'll just keep that to my private you know fanfic that i'm writing and okay yeah and you're kind of pissed i remember like he's making another avatar and he just crumbled up he's definitely gonna use some of my ideas i know it um i was like why are you burning that manuscript jack you're like it doesn't even matter anymore and you were asking about the long ponytail i'm growing out and yeah it's in prep uh for i mean let's not let's call it what it is a rat tail at the moment
Starting point is 00:06:30 yeah it's a it's a love tale if you remember how things work in avatar yeah yeah but so uh some information on the batman the matt reeves robert pattinson starring a new Batman movie that looks very moody. This motherfucker is going to be almost three hours long. What? Two hours, 47 minutes without credits. Oh, come on. So it's not the longest comic book movie because like endgame but endgame and you know the those other uh avengers movies that were like pulling together 45 plot lines those like moved and were
Starting point is 00:07:13 just like packed with like storylines like this feels like a different kind of creature so it's interesting that it's gonna be that long i mean i can't i'm honestly is it i don't know what's happened in the pandemic but i can't even like when something's like just two hours and one second i'm like this is this this is too much and i used to always in my before that i was like oh look at this weak ass movie an hour and 50 what is that and now we're talking about two hours and 47 minutes. The poster, the marketing should actually look cool.
Starting point is 00:07:47 I was like, you know what? I mean, I'm into this. Am I checking on this one? I am fine with it being this long, actually, to be honest.
Starting point is 00:07:55 Yeah, and I don't say that to be like, it can't be good in that long, but it's just more like, I don't know, because I think, it's mostly because like, I watch movies high
Starting point is 00:08:02 and in the, back in the days of going to the theater, like, I can't make, I can't make a blunt stretch two hours and 40 minutes. I got to fucking leave and smoke up again to get back in there. And if I take an edible, I'm asleep. What happened to me at Fast and Furious? Nine. Did that really?
Starting point is 00:08:18 Or eight. Oh, okay. That's the one that had all the zombie cars. That makes more sense. The zombie car scene. Yeah, I don't think I even saw eight, but nine uh there was no falling asleep during that one my friend no i trust me there is when you eat 50 milligram edible and think it's just gonna make it look cooler rather than when i eat a 50 milligram edible there would be no falling asleep for six
Starting point is 00:08:40 days i would just be uh you know in a shame spiral but i don't know that like the moodiness the fact that like i really like pattinson and like dano playing the riddler and uh colin farrell playing the penguin like a weird version of the penguin uh looks though that all looks dope i feel like you know giving them time to spread around that that That's my hot take is I am good with it being this long. Okay. I like that. And I'm good with that take as well. Hey, thank you.
Starting point is 00:09:13 And then also, correction on Lord of the Rings, Rings of Power. It is not a remake of the original, the original Tridge, jackson's films is not a not doing anything from the hobbit it is a prequel based on the appendices uh written by tolkien so my favorite parts of any book god thank you i know and like it granted it's a prequel that's far enough in the past that it's not like oh well we know this person dies if you spend enough money on fantasy shit i'll stare at it for a little bit don't worry the bar ain't that high for me even though i might be yeah but thanks uh for the kind fact check from our listener who said nice take though better luck next time sick i feel like we're getting some new listeners i was saying before we start recording because
Starting point is 00:10:12 there's some uh there's some people who some correctors hey for the record and a record and that's it's a community baby thanks a lot but yeah nice try nice try asshole yeah nice try asshole moving on um the uh also uh in the in the realm of uh people so the cia uh has come out and said they think havana syndrome is not a vast network of uh you know foreign adversary attacks uh bless the cia say yeah i what we've known for a while now uh that cia is like gang that they listen to the show and share a lot of our opinions and they give us a lot of interesting takes to share with you the listener um like that one about batman that i just yeah it's not clear yet how that supports uh capitalism's invisible army but it's there's a lot going on but by seeding this vigilante hero into people's
Starting point is 00:11:12 minds like we are going to create a type of american who's more willing than ever to take things into their own hands and root for billionaires and for billionaires like chris pratt did because he's also an op yeah um but so it's an internal report by the cia uh and they basically said there's no evidence linking havana syndrome to a vast foreign government attack on spies and diplomats um right this is like this sucks for the sufferers who i believe are not lying but simply suffering from a functional disorder. Yeah. Symptoms is real.
Starting point is 00:11:47 The symptoms are real. They're very real to them. It's just not caused by an external attack and more likely caused by, you know, a stressful event and a version of post-traumatic stress that in the past has been called mass hysteria, but that's, yeah. Maybe Jack Mallett,
Starting point is 00:12:03 I think maybe the C we're rubbing off on the CIA. Yeah. No, I think that's yeah maybe jack mallet i think maybe this we're rubbing off on the cia yeah no i think that's mostly what it is because they're not like the preeminent pacifists of our time so right this is maybe they're all right langley way to take that one and not uh put a little quarter in the military industrial complex machine and get it vibrating again you saw their uh their ad where they're recruiting like the for the woke cia wasn't that the cia where they're like it was one of them yeah yeah um cool but this was also a fun tweet from another listener was like sorry jack um but that was your that's what you've been saying sorry asshole sorry that like you're in the cia because like apparently you guys like came to the
Starting point is 00:12:53 same conclusion do i yeah maybe that's what it is but uh they also apologize to you for having to continue to listen to this shit and no i apologize to me for jack never letting me be in my home without popping in my window trying to sell me something with an ad yeah that's the hardship and i do get some of the spycraft i use to sneak up on you from our good friends at the cia from the 90s toy brand spycraft made by milton bradley it's also just i mean that i don't know if this is an algorithm doing this but the way that this headline is being worded at least in this nbc news thing cia says that the mysterious symptoms known as havana syndrome are not the result of a sustained global campaign by a hostile power aimed at hundreds of American diplomats and spies.
Starting point is 00:13:47 Oh wow. That not is doing the most work that a not can possibly do. It's like still keeping in the air though. Yeah. Without that, not we're at war with a magical supervillain from the future. Uh, but like,
Starting point is 00:14:01 it just seems like there's probably a clearer way of covering that right it's like again judge determines the black lives matter movement is not a vast global conspiracy to dethrone white people it's like what the fuck that wasn't even the question okay yeah we get though that that's what you wanted people to think for the whole time though okay thank you yeah it's just like they're addicted to the sensational like aspect details of the story so they have to get those in the headline so they just have a little knot and then talk about the really sensational thing that it's not so dude like what it's like this is such a funny like construction of a sentence where you're like you're just basically you're still trying to cast dispersions by saying it's not the thing that they think it is but still i don't know man it's not that but that's scary right but that would be
Starting point is 00:14:55 scary if it was right in your mind keep that in your mind because we're gonna take two is gonna be a little more intense um all right let's take a quick break and we'll be right back. I'm Jess Casavetto, executive producer of the hit Netflix documentary series, Dancing for the Devil, the 7M TikTok cult. And I'm Clea Gray, former member of 7M Films and Shekinah Church. And we're the host of the new podcast, Forgive Me For I Have Followed. Together, we'll be diving even deeper into the unbelievable stories behind 7M Films and LA-based Shekinah Church, an alleged cult that has impacted members for over two decades. Jessica and I will delve into the hidden truths between high control groups and interview dancers, church members, and others
Starting point is 00:15:39 whose lives and careers have been impacted, just like mine. Through powerful, in-depth interviews with former members and new, chilling firsthand accounts, the series will illuminate untold and extremely necessary perspectives. Forgive Me For I Have Followed will be more than an exploration. It's a vital revelation aimed at ensuring these types of abuses never happen again. Listen to Forgive Me For I Have Followed on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hey, I'm Gianna Pradente. And I'm Jemay Jackson-Gadsden. We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts. When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions. Like,
Starting point is 00:16:21 how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed? Or, can I negotiate a higher salary if this is my first real job? Girl, yes. Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions. Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice. And if we don't know the answer, we bring in experts who do, like resume specialist Morgan Santer. The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job and the person who gets the job is usually who applies. Yeah, I think a lot about that quote. What is it like you miss 100% of the shots you never take? Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better than you rejecting yourself.
Starting point is 00:16:56 Together, we'll share what it really takes to thrive in the early years of your career. Without sacrificing your sanity or sleep. Listen to Let's Talk Offline on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Keri Champion, and this is season four of Naked Sports, where we live at the intersection of sports and culture. Up first, I explore the making of a rivalry, Kaitlyn Clark versus Angel Reese.
Starting point is 00:17:24 I know I'll go down in history. People are talking about women's basketball just because of one single game. Every great player needs a foil. I ain't really near them. Why is that? I just come here to play basketball every single day, and that's what I focus on.
Starting point is 00:17:34 From college to the pros, Clark and Reese have changed the way we consume women's sports. Angel Reese is a joy to watch. She is unapologetically black. I love her. What exactly ignited this fire? Why has it been so good for the game?
Starting point is 00:17:50 And can the fanfare surrounding these two supernovas be sustained? This game is only going to get better because the talent is getting better. This new season will cover all things sports and culture. Listen to Naked Sports on the Black Effect Podcast Network, iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. The Black Effect Podcast Network is sponsored by Diet Coke. Do you ever wonder where your favorite foods come from?
Starting point is 00:18:14 Like what's the history behind bacon-wrapped hot dogs? Hi, I'm Eva Longoria. Hi, I'm Maite Gomez-Rejon. Our podcast, Hungry for History, is back. Season two. Season two. Season two. Are we recording? Are we good?
Starting point is 00:18:27 Oh, we push record, right? Okay. And this season, we're taking in a bigger bite out of the most delicious food and its history. Saying that the most popular cocktail is the margarita, followed by the mojito from Cuba, and the piƱa colada from Puerto Rico. So all of these...
Starting point is 00:18:44 We have, we We thank Latin culture. There's a mention of blood sausage in Homer's Odyssey that dates back to the 9th century B.C. B.C.? I didn't realize how old the hot dog was. Listen to Hungry for History as part of the My Cultura podcast network. Available on the iHeartRadio app,
Starting point is 00:19:01 Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And we're back. And Mitch McConnell is talking about voting rights. Yep. And who better? Who better, Miles? voting rights and who better who better miles who better than old turkey neck mcconnell to go gobbling on about voting rights um this is he's he's he's trending right now because he was asked a pretty direct question about you know what what's his message to voters of color who are like
Starting point is 00:19:40 pretty sure the gop is just trying to nullify our voice in elections and this is this is what he said very telling very telling well the concern is misplaced because if you look at the statistics african-american voters are voting in just as high a percentage as americans oh okay take your mask off take your clan hood off we get it i mean if you look they're also statistically as high numbers as uh uh human beings so what the fuck unrelated group yeah so yeah in addition to like that clearly uh demonstrating how he thinks about you know voters of color it also suggests that they shouldn't be allowed to vote in higher percentage than the average like well what uh what the fuck argument is that it's a it's such a strange strange argument yeah
Starting point is 00:20:43 it's basically saying don't worry like people can vote but will that vote then be counted i don't know i don't know about that part right um and it's yeah i mean again if if it wasn't clear enough uh what what direction that ship is headed in uh just just keep listening to the words of the leadership of that party. Wharton is trending. The, you know, preeminent business school in these United States. You know, you got your Harvard business and you got your Wharton. And Wharton has Donald Trump, the best businessman. Ever. Went to the best schools.
Starting point is 00:21:22 Flunked out of the best schools. Had my dad by my way through the best schools. Yeah, this tweet from a professor at Wharton is blowing up because this is the tweet from a professor at Wharton. Quote, I asked Wharton students what they thought the average American worker makes per year, and 25% of them thought it was over six figures. One of them thought it was $800,000. Really not sure what to make of this. The real number is $45,000 a year. Huh.
Starting point is 00:21:54 That's shocking to me. Yeah. Future Earthbucker school graduates are like, I don't know, what does a poor person make, a million a year? What could a banana cost right yeah that's freaky though too and you're talking about people like who aren't even like old enough to get so far away from reality like we're talking about people who are typically in college i would have said what's the richest person on in the country make i'd be like i don't know 60 000 right like yeah meanwhile these people are like i don't fucking what does a poor person make 800 yeah having any additional money like beyond what you need for rent and subsistence at like in right college and right after college should seem like a fantastical or i don't know if it
Starting point is 00:22:46 should but that's how it was with me i will say um yeah i i'm just a little disappointed in the earth fuckers because like don't they know what they're how they're going to be screwing people like i'm assuming that's what the other 75 yeah we like, nah, dude, you can pay him 45. It's a joke. Or the dude was like super progressive. He's like, I think the median wage for an American worker should be $800,000 a year. Yeah. And you're like, oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:23:17 Perfect. Class trader. We love it. But yeah, it's just how out of touch these the future business leaders of america and politicians are even at the age when most people who are like trying to better themselves can be at their like brokest um because god i the fuck my goodness this is when i would ask eating eating my old french fries out the trash they should ask the nannies who raise them how much they make that would be i think eye-opening for them right oh they're like really that's so fucked up that is literally the plot of the help is emma stone's character being mad at her mom for not
Starting point is 00:24:00 like not paying their nanny right hey save us save us save us uh m&ms are trending some good news yes yeah uh so they they are uh becoming more inclusive with a is it like a character redesign what are we doing here i don't know man i don't even know what it means like they're all not people so is it like the shade of eminem is it that like some will be more here let's see there'll be more the tone shift will be more uh more inclusive welcoming and unifying what does that mean um let's see look look to their footwear for starters okay they're wearing white shoes i don't know they're in a cult
Starting point is 00:24:54 yeah i i'm really not sure like what it like oh that that the orange one looks like it's wearing tim's so it's from brooklyn and uh it also looks like it just shit its pants in this picture i mean they're just trying to say they want to increase the quote sensible longing for 10 million people around the world by 2025 it's not okay this is like peak capitalist bullshit it's like the m&ms are gonna do that they should ask mars what what do you think the average of these m&ms makes yeah order the m&ms from broke as broke as fuck to balling as fuck let me know which one's which frequent guest jakees neil tweeted uh in response to this story uh this is what makes me mad instead of giving us the inclusivity we really need and shit that matters they do this
Starting point is 00:25:45 and make the entire struggle look foolish contrite and unnecessary and those that oppose real change can point to shit like this to say how quote ridiculous we are yeah i think that's a pretty pretty great great timing from mars i wonder if they uh i mean i guess yeah part of the probably the chamber of commerce the new the filibuster news was going to come out. And they're like, hey, hey, hey, have this, have this, have this. The blue one is biracial. Okay, what, what do, what do you mean? There's a race of M&Ms?
Starting point is 00:26:19 Oh, we don't want to get into that, though. Is everyone still going to be horny about the green one? Is that, like, still going to be a thing? I don't want to get into that though is everyone still gonna be horny about the green one is that like still gonna be a thing i don't know because that was always strange to me and then like the green one who like has the eyebrows to suggest like a more feminine energy is wearing like the stan smith sneakers but then the brown one who also has like the shaped eyebrows and the librarian glasses, is wearing heels. A little kitten heel. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:49 So, I don't know what that means. I mean, this is huge. Huge if true. Where's the fucking... I mean, honestly, let's see the Eminem with the thick-ass thighs. They all got kind of weird. Let me see that,
Starting point is 00:27:02 because I'm representing for the thick-thigh dudes. Yeah. I mean, that. Cause I'm, you know, represent for the thick guy dudes. Yeah. I mean, whatever. Which one are you going to vote for for Senate to replace Joe Mitch? I mean, that's a great question. Will yellow still be played by JK Simmons?
Starting point is 00:27:19 Yeah, exactly. Right. I think actually Kirsten cinema is the voice of the green one. So the, the green one. The red one, see, yellow Eminem can be the fun-loving doofus out in front of the cameras, Joe Biden. Then you got the red one behind the scenes who's a real asshole who's, you know, making things happen. He's like the Rahm Emanuel.
Starting point is 00:27:47 Yeah, I was trying to think of who the Biden example would be. That's probably what Biden needs. I don't know what he needs. I think he needs to be told that, like, certain rules don't exist anymore and just try and take advantage of his senility to do more stuff. It's like, no, dude, the Chamber of Commerce, they're good, dude. Don't pick up your phone. Yeah. Like, do the thing with, like no dude the chamber of commerce they're good dude don't don't don't pick up your phone yeah like do the thing with like trump they cut him off i feel like god i i would be really curious to see what the limits are to be like yo we actually got him to
Starting point is 00:28:14 do a call he thought it was fucking boris yeltsin and it was just my homie who's got an improv podcast they uh and like i i do think like small little things like this are probably a good idea so that it's not all like all characters are like based on you know white dudes but like don't make a fucking press release about it and like try and like big up yourself for i'll never uh yeah i think it's clear anything more inclusive is good but to to act as if this is something from on high that we all need to stop our days like we are right now to acknowledge is an absurd uh proposition that's why we look at this and go what the fuck and who the fuck are you vote which one you voting for uh all right well those are the things that are trending on this thursday afternoon we are back tomorrow with the whole last episode of the show until then be kind to each other be kind to yourselves get the vaccine wear a mask don't do
Starting point is 00:29:20 nothing about white supremacy and we will will talk to you all tomorrow. Bye. Every great player needs a foil. I know I'll go down in history.
