Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of Don't Want No Short Trends Show. I am Jack. You are? Don't Want't want no short trend show there it is i've
Starting point is 00:02:27 never said my name in this episode you've never said your name in trend you yeah you always introduce me oh okay i'm jack you're miles oh thank god yeah i couldn't i didn't want to break tradition transition transition transition right that's for our Bush-themed series. There you go. All right. Well, let's tell the people what's trending. iPhone 14 is trending. I can't imagine why.
Starting point is 00:02:54 I mean, there's not even a 13. So what's going on? Because apparently, what, the next week there's going to be that big you know streaming event and they say you know that's probably we're going to see the iphone 13 but people are already talking about the iphone 14 because there's like rumors about its new design uh i don't know this is just like one of those things too where like most of the people were not like excited about it but me like why the fuck is this trending when I just bought the 12 twice 14 training? We haven't even seen 13.
Starting point is 00:03:31 What are we doing here? My most recent upgrade was from the last one with a button. Yeah. I think you went eight, eight to 12. Wow. And you know, that was a pretty significant jump,
Starting point is 00:03:44 but now they're talking all right guys i think we're gonna get one that has no notch and no camera bump and at that point i don't give a fuck i don't even know what you're talking about with the notch really yeah they're like well jack what would you say if i told you that this would actually have more of a notchless design uh my mind would be fucking blown dude it's like i don't know what that even means yeah i have no idea it's because it's just this part you know how like the screen isn't complete right and like that part where you're the the sound comes out for your ear that's that is now oh my god it's not giving me a full screen. That does make me very angry. Yeah, that's true.
Starting point is 00:04:27 That's actually very true. The fuck is this? This frame isn't titanium? Like, you're putting a case on it anyway. Right. But you know, we need things to distract. But God, like, I honestly hope at a certain point, point like even the biggest apple fans have had enough right like really like unless this thing is gonna summon like a tupac hologram at will
Starting point is 00:04:51 right i don't know i don't know what else you could do for me to give a fuck more because i couldn't give a fuck less what do i think a success sucks too much stress um but yeah it's just the bars you know from the master of the 313 but yeah i don't know the good iphone 14 i'm like i'm fine with the 11 i got i was like i'm pretty sure we peaked with this motherfucker yeah so i'm pretty sure that that's been that's been it and we're good but i mean forced obsolescence will uh lead to us having to replace our phones every couple years so right yeah that was the other dominating joke on twitter was just like iphone 14 they're like my iphone 12 finna be like and it's just like all this like weird glitch shit people posting weird videos and things fucking up yep um de joy is trending um so louis it's a weird trend because what happened is the biden
Starting point is 00:05:54 administration they told okay so there's a military academy board that uh like the trump administration had put people on so that's like people like kellyanne conway sean spicer uh fucking hr mcmaster and so what the biden administration said look y'all need to resign or we're just gonna remove you either way it's a wrap for y'all um so figure out what you want to do you can either clear your shit out or we'll clear clear the shit out for you and then so a lot of people like uh what about lewis the joy what about the postmaster general who was very transparently fucking up the postal service at a very critical time and a lot of people were concerned about you know mail-in ballots and shit maybe what about him why don't you give him the old pack your shit or i'll pack it for you but i don't know that's i feel like is he on the military
Starting point is 00:06:43 board or they're just saying this no just, just saying it's still hanging around. Cause he's still the postmaster general. And they're like, you couldn't replace him. Right. So what's going on here? I don't know. Whatever.
Starting point is 00:06:53 Just there's, there's too much going on. There's too much going on, I guess. But yeah, that's a valid point. Thought about Kellyanne Conway in, uh,
Starting point is 00:07:02 months. And yes, not glad that I just did. Yeah. So Don't Look Up is trending. The trailer for the new Adam McKay movie in which people. So scientists realize that a giant comet is headed toward the earth. They go contact Bruce Willis, who's on an oil rig.
Starting point is 00:07:24 He's one of the best oil drillers. And then, unfortunately, Ben Affleck is Bruce Willis' daughter's girlfriend. And then they arrive at the space station at the launching pad and they say, talk about the wrong stuff. No, so Don't Look Up is basically the plot of Armageddon, So don't look up is basically the plot of Armageddon kind of using what we have learned about how humans deal with those sorts of cataclysmic prospects, which is they're just like kind of tired of being stressed out by stuff. So we're going to just kind of move, move, move along. We're not, not interested, not buying what you're selling uh because it's not gonna test well with uh focus groups so it's a long uh satire on that i was uh worried when i read the premise that it would be a little bit one jokey and they seem to have
Starting point is 00:08:19 combated that with uh just a an incredible cast and yeah what the fuck ariana grande leonardo caprio chalamet jennifer lawrence chris evans i mean leo and jennifer lawrence playing the two like lead roles is like okay that's uh tyler perry kid cuddy i'm not joking people that are in this film yeah yeah gina gershon i mean it's got everything it's got everything yeah i don't uh okay i mean i hope it has a has an effect i mean that's that seems to be so the thing that excited me the most is so it starts off you know showing a uh some scenes from the movie and then it's like from the director of vice and um the big short and then it shows like kind of a silly scene and then it's like and step brothers and anchorman and yeah let him know uh bring some of that stepbrothers flavor to our apocalyptic
Starting point is 00:09:28 works of satire my favorite part of stepbrothers i don't know why it's like one of the most morbid parts is when they're showing the house and they pretend that will like will ferrell isn't it will ferrell who's dead they're pretending he's dead and like, he just passed away last night. You're like, oh my God. I don't know why of all the scenes, I'm like, this shit is ridiculous. I love a fake corpse to thwart a house showing in a real estate context. Yeah, that is a true classic. Adam McKay is a super smart, interesting dude. I don't know if you've ever listened to him on podcasts.
Starting point is 00:10:08 He's kind of an interesting guy to hear talk. So high hopes. Hey, maybe we can get him on this one. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I mean, he keeps asking to come on, and I'm just like, we've got a fully booked schedule. We're like, do a Taco Bell movie, and then we can talk, asshole.
Starting point is 00:10:24 Let's take a quick break we'll be right back i've been thinking about you i want you back in my life it's too late for that i have a proposal for you come up here and document my project all you need to do is record everything like you always do. Hi, I'm Akilah Hughes, and I'm so excited about my new podcast, Rebel Spirit, where I head back to my hometown in Kentucky and try to convince my high school to change their racist mascot, the Rebels, into something everyone in the South loves, the biscuits. I the Biscuits.
Starting point is 00:12:46 I was a lady rebel. Like, what does that even mean? The Boone County Rebels will stay the Boone County Rebels with the image of the Biscuits. It's right here in black and white in print. A lion. An individual that came to the school saying that God sent him to talk to me about the mascot switch. As a leader, you choose hills that you want to die on. Why would we want to be the losing team? I'd just take all the other stuff out of it.
Starting point is 00:13:11 Segregation academies. When civil rights said that we need to integrate public schools, these charter schools were exempt from that. Bigger than a flag or mascot. You have to be ready for serious backlash. Listen to Rebel Spirit on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
Starting point is 00:13:30 Do you ever wonder where your favorite foods come from? Like what's the history behind bacon-wrapped hot dogs? Hi, I'm Eva Longoria. Hi, I'm Maite Gomez-Rejon. Our podcast Hungry for History is back. Season two. Season two. Are we recording?
Starting point is 00:13:45 Are we good? Oh, we push record, right? Okay. And this season, we're taking in a bigger bite out of the most delicious food and its history. Saying that the most popular cocktail is the margarita, followed by the mojito from Cuba and the piƱa colada from Puerto Rico.
Starting point is 00:14:02 So all of these... We have, we We thank Latin culture. There's a mention of blood sausage in Homer's Odyssey that dates back to the 9th century B.C. B.C.? I didn't realize how old the hot dog was. Listen to Hungry for History as part of the My Cultura podcast network. Available on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. jet jetter jetter um direct jet air from i think he's a cricket player from mozambique or something no he old jeter jeter he got fucking inducted to c-town baby cooper's town
Starting point is 00:14:57 he's in the hall of fame is that so he got inducted like he i thought he got nominated or voted in a long time ago, didn't he? Yeah, but I think this is the ceremony. Like what's the timeline on that? Like, is it do they just like go and do the induction whenever they are ready? Because I feel like he got voted in a long time ago. Yeah, well, I think because it was at the beginning of 2020 when he was elected to be in the hall of fame because and then i think something happened in 2020
Starting point is 00:15:31 yeah and then that oh right um and then that uh that had uh delayed things i'd imagine i don't know but maybe there was an induction in 2020 but either way um anyways jeter's actually a really good guy uh my wife keeps showing up with gift baskets from him that like i don't know like it's so nice i think something she's getting derrick jeter gift baskets just keep sending them to the house it's kind of nice i don't know he must really like our family or something yeah they're great and he keeps sending her she you know that he keeps sending her on these cool trips she gets to go on i've been seeing her about three months but she's a loving it uh john mulaney is uh he made an appearance
Starting point is 00:16:16 on the seth meyers show last night i believe uh and announced that he and olivia munn are expecting a baby you know this is right after uh he announced that he was getting a divorce from his wife like not right after but right like people on tiktok and other social media sites said that this was the case like right after the divorce was announced and it seems like they kind of kept a lid on it for a little while for you know
Starting point is 00:16:55 purposes of propriety like not making his wife feel like shit or his ex wife feel like shit but people said he was really funny on the show i have not watched it yet i will watch it uh after we record this uh so useless to the listener yeah but that's what was the other thing what it's he's with her he was a month they're having a baby and then and then but then i think he thanked seth myers or something oh really oh that's cool
Starting point is 00:17:24 that was like another dimension i think of it that was tweeting where he was like, you know, expressing his gratitude to him for looking out for him. Because he was writing on the Seth Meyers show for a little while, right before he went into rehab. So, well, all right. Yeah, he said he thanked him for saving his life you go britney spears is trending because her dad was like all right fine fine okay that's a wrap you think you can do this without me oh so i okay oh okay you're so you just want to let britney decide
Starting point is 00:18:02 what to have fucking agency over everything in her life i was trying to be a good dad so he's a few he's filed the paperwork to end the conservatorship um yeah um right that was the last thing that's happened so meaning that we are well and truly moving into a freer britney era um but like yeah his his tone around it was very much like not copying to that it was bad so i was trying to do what i thought was right not this was a terrible legal quagmire and fucked up you know glass menagerie that i put my own child in uh with no ability to think or decide things for herself it's more right um even as she was asking for the right to think and act for herself yeah uh and he compared her to a racehorse uh so all you know how
Starting point is 00:18:58 broads are your honor they're like racehorses okay sir that's not a please at least file that in legal paperwork don't just scream it at me in the courtroom and finally just to check in with that uh ongoing story that is most famous for delaying derrick jeter's uh induction into the cooperstown hall of fame uh the covid 19 pandemic i think it's called that uh cases are currently 300 higher uh than this time last year um and uh the mu variant has been found in every state um so the mu variant because i i saw this and i was just like okay so it's going to be like another variant that's worse than delta like and we're just going to keep getting worse and worse. Also,
Starting point is 00:19:46 how do you pronounce that? It is mu, not ma or mu. Hey, you see the ma variant. Hey man, I got the ma variant. Um,
Starting point is 00:19:56 but. Hey, don't take ma variants. It is currently not a variation of concern. It's a variation of interest. They're still like figuring out how it compares to other variations but the delta variant was uh absolutely right and it's twice as contagious as as previous uh variants so that's the yeah right and there's a lot of number like aside from the mu variant there's a
Starting point is 00:20:26 lot of other things trending around covid today because the like they say more children are making up more than a quarter of the weekly covid cases um and on top of that you have and the other thing with the mu variant a lot of you know the the epidemiologists and doctors are like, yeah, here's the thing, like, it's a variant, but the guidance is going to be the same no matter what. So rather than getting all freaked out about the mu variant, just know that we have to continue doing the things we were doing, which is to get people vaccinated, because then it won't be as transmissible
Starting point is 00:21:01 and allow for more variants to emerge, which is the real sticky problem there is if you just let that fucking incubator run wild eventually a fucking monster is going to come out um and that's the absolute nightmare scenario where we start from fucking scratch but yeah uh you know that we have to just keep doing the same things and then there's still a lot of people who don't want to so this is going to be a long long old thing and a lot of experts are now like this is we're going to have covid forever you know like but now it's going to be about how we figure out like how we're able to maneuver it and have shots like you would for the flu, but this is being something more serious.
Starting point is 00:21:48 Yeah. We'll see. It's just a sticky time. Put it in the air. I'm just waiting. Do not put COVID in the air. Just the sticky icky. 95 plus 4 pennies.
Starting point is 00:22:03 The most sticky icky of them. Yeah. Anyways, that is going to do it for today's episode. We are back tomorrow with the whole last episode of the show. Until then, be kind to each other. Be kind to yourselves. Get the vaccine. Don't do nothing about white supremacy.
Starting point is 00:22:24 And we will talk to you all tomorrow. Bye. Bye. Something no other woman had done before. Tried to assassinate the President of the United States. One was the protege of Charles Manson. 26-year-old Lynette Fromm, nicknamed Squeaky. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore.
