Starting point is 00:02:04 Do it. Hello, the internet, and welcome to this episode of Ever-Trending Stories. That is courtesy of Katie Didn't. She didn't. I'm Jack. That's Miles. Yeah. It is. It is.
Starting point is 00:02:23 It is. April 21st. Here are some of the things that are trending. California. This might just be trending for me because I live there. But California has the lowest COVID rates in the continental United States right now. Brag. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Oh, wow. Cool. We did it, y'all. It's a good thing, too, because the LAPD closed down all the vaccine sites and testing sites because they were getting ready. They were real scared how people were going to respond to oppression again. Yeah. I think they were excited.
Starting point is 00:02:59 My whole neighborhood was... You could hear just helicopters everywhere. There was a Black Lives matter demonstration after the verdict in front of the mayor's house and it was just like there were police there were helicopters there were i think they were like ready for a fight they were like yeah let's let's get it on of course that's and uh that's yeah that's their whole in the whole stance. I think since that has happened with all the statements that have come out talking about their. We can't do our jobs.
Starting point is 00:03:33 And they go and go. But anyways, that's good to hear. Keep keep those masks on California. Prince is trending because is it his birthday? Oh, that was going on. Is it his birthday? Oh, is that what's going on? Is it his birthday? Or maybe it's death, the anniversary of his death. Oh, yeah, it's the death anniversary.
Starting point is 00:03:52 It's his birthday, dude. It's like his death birthday. Right. The birthday of his posthumous... Yeah. Beginnings of 2016. People are like, man, 2016 is the worst year ever god never that's just never a never a good idea never a good idea to be like and it can't get
Starting point is 00:04:15 any worse than this don't ever say that don't ever say that it'll always find a way to wow you in the future let's tell the people about pete and bass uh not not a nickelodeon show okay although it does seem like it uh pete and bass no they are uh older uh grime they're like two older grime mcs and they they'll do a little bit of drill sometimes uh they'll get into all kinds of they're just these fucking hip-hop heads it's a while to watch them because they they're what like they're 70s 80s and their bars are kind of i don't know who's writing them maybe zeitgang you know maybe there's somebody behind this already but they actually have flow which is what makes it which is why i'm like i don't know if people are actually ghost writing this because they can deliver it like they they to me i think they were in their 40s when hip-hop came out right like ah damn i wish it came out a little bit sooner and they've been
Starting point is 00:05:21 working on their craft and now they're old as shit and they're like yeah fuck it let's put in our put our album out so yeah they've got new um you know they've got they got shit coming out uh and engineer brian was just sending me a video and i was like bro i've been on pete and bass come on man because it's just it's some weird just watching i don't know it's like some yeah check it out it's it out. It's worth watching. The video, I couldn't follow the plot line of the video that I was watching, but that's pretty standard for music videos. They had kidnapped somebody and then showed that kidnapped victim
Starting point is 00:05:58 to somebody who was paying them, and then they were like, nah, we don't want your money. We want to play cards with you. Yeah, a little hard. The narrative structure was a little bit hard to follow um but i think like in the end it meant that the other guy oh i'm just watching the end of that video when he loses his hand he now becomes their prisoner got it okay okay look you know no one said they were you know fucking hype williams with the videos right but when you when you hear someone who clearly has been smoking filterless cigarettes for 60 years but like yeah mate we're gonna call you up and make you to the pipe man
Starting point is 00:06:38 and you're like oh shit okay yeah okay all right i got it yeah it's like hearing somebody rapping cockney or something like yeah there you go hey what are these kids rhyming cockney over there yeah um cruel summer is trending not because of the banana rama song uh not because of the kanye west uh was that good music experiment yeah oh wait was what's oh that was good that was an album right there was good summer and then there was cruel summer good fridays cruel summer yeah that was uh yeah this is uh actually a teen drama that is the number one trending thing on google set in the years 1993 to the year 1995 uh so the peak of culture and it's a it's a kidnapping mystery but it's on freeform which my i'm so washed that i didn't realize freeform was like the new wb like that it's the home for yeah it's like the home for teen dramas it's pretty little liars and shit like this find
Starting point is 00:07:53 their home on freeform what wait but so the series is just i get it so it's like that 70s shows show for them to be like oh man remember remember when our parents were young right yeah yeah that 70s show but what if uh whatever ashton kutcher's character's name is what if he got kidnapped yo whoa this is a premise is heavy now that i read this shit oh word or i don't know heavy as heavy as a freeform teen drama show can be but when you write it out it says the show depicts the long-term effects of a kidnapping on a community in texas focusing on three days over the course of years in 93 94 95 about two young women uh which one day disappear without a trace so okay whatever i mean i think
Starting point is 00:08:40 that's it that's a zoomed out way of saying the drama when these girls disappear but shit alright Jessica Biel is an EP yeah Jessica Biel you know she's got the sinner cred now she can EP a twisty turny mystery yeah but can she
Starting point is 00:09:02 get Justin Timberlake under control that is the question miles that and more here on e um did you watch season three of uh the center no is that the one with the little boy no that's two that's the number two oh number two is a little boy and the cult yeah oh see i only got halfway through that one. I have not seen number three. I forget what number three was. I just remember that I watched it. I just remember it wasn't as good as the first one,
Starting point is 00:09:31 and that was my biggest disappointment. The first season of The Sinner was really good. Yeah, you guys talked that shit up, too. Big time. I loved it. I loved it. Anna's saying season three was Matt Bomer? I don't know what the hell that means.
Starting point is 00:09:44 What that means. We're old what the hell that means what that means we're old who is that is that someone on tiktok who he is he's an adult man oh yeah this guy yeah season three was wild i haven't seen this one oh yeah did you see his face yeah yeah oh so it's all him and his homie like you're in this two-person like nietzsche cult it's very weird and then he like goes off the deep end but uh like he has a connection of course with number one sinner himself bill pullman and uh i think that's his name right i i always get him pex and confused but i think it is pullman and yeah yeah woman the the whole premise of that show is like what if this cop had a dark side oh wow what if what connect with people with dark sides oh boy but it's a good performance i really
Starting point is 00:10:41 i really like that show jacob blake is trending because not only will the police officer uh who shot him seven times in the back not be charged uh he won't face internal discipline so we're just getting all sorts of uh reminders that you know that what we saw in the chauvin trial is nothing Nothing changed....is an exception, a complete anomaly. It's an anomalous response from a system of oppression that is far from being dismantled. No internal discipline. Like, that is...
Starting point is 00:11:26 I mean, yeah, I don't know. No internal discipline. Like that is, that's a. I mean, yeah, I don't know. I think all people need to begin doing more is to really try. And I mean, and I think we can also have more people on the show too, to actually talk about this because we always talk about how there's a lack of imagination for what to do. And I think it is important to really be able to, well, cause we can't just keep reading these stories and not pivot to some,
Starting point is 00:11:49 and to begin talking immediately about all of the ways we can do something immediately. That's substantive. That isn't like a sentiment. Right. Um, that is actually, you know,
Starting point is 00:11:59 talking to the actual people, the activists who are making it their life's work to present us with alternatives to this kind of thing um and i'm hoping like we're at a point now where we can i mean i feel like our show may be a little bit different than just generally the tone of other news shows that are in mainstream media but that that is a thing where they can even say like, we just keep going like, Oh my God. Right. Happened again. Yeah. This is awful.
Starting point is 00:12:29 Now we need to talk about how we're going to change it, how we're going to make it better, why we need to dismantle things, like why it's good to have an idea of what is possible. Um, because I'm, I'm running out of like the outrage to keep looking at the same fucking problem and just look at it like a you know society that is just completely not equipped
Starting point is 00:12:53 to do something about it and finally joe biden is giving tax giving companies tax incentives for giving people time off to get the vaccine is the, uh, convoluted ass way that, uh, the democratic party goes about get like trying to do shit. Yeah. Just money here, dude.
Starting point is 00:13:19 We'll pay you to let them to make sure they get vaccinated. Does that help? Right. I guess. Yeah. I guess we could do that. When I saw tax incentive for COVID vaccines, pay you to let them to make sure they get vaccinated does that help right i guess yeah i guess we could do that when i saw tax incentive for covet vaccines i was like oh we're gonna like make it financially uh worthwhile for these trump supporters to get the shot like fine let's do it let's just like get this shit over and done with and not we gotta we gotta make it part of a plan to support big uh small businesses and uh make there be like five chains of different
Starting point is 00:13:55 like convoluted legalese that people can use to i don't know get the their way out, loophole and shit. It's just so frustrating. But you got to make work for the technocrats, you know, and the law students who basically form the vast majority of the people in that kind of upper crust decision-making realm. Absolutely. Absolutely. Yeah. All right. Well,
Starting point is 00:14:28 that's frustrating, uh, but it is what is trending right now. We are back tomorrow with a whole ass episode of the show featuring Roy Wood Jr. What the fuck? Ow. What the fuck?
Starting point is 00:14:43 Yeah. So tune in for that and until then be kind to each other be kind to yourselves wear a mask don't do nothing about white supremacy we'll talk to y'all tomorrow bye bye Kay hasn't heard from her sister
Starting point is 00:15:04 in seven years. I have a proposal for you. Come up here and document my project. All you need to do is record everything like you always do. What was that?
