Starting point is 00:01:31 In California during the summer of 1975, within the span of 17 days and less than 90 miles, two women did something no other woman had done before, try to assassinate the president of the United States. One was the protege of Charles Manson. 26-year-old Lynette Fromm, nicknamed Squeaky. The other, a middle-aged housewife working undercover for the FBI. Identified by police as Sarah Jean Moore. Hello, the Internet, and welcome to this special episode of the Gold Trend State Bridge. I'm Jack O'Brien. That's Miles Gray. Miles, can you hear me over the traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge behind me? Very clear. Your background, I was very concerned.
Starting point is 00:02:31 I thought you were in a helicopter above the Golden Gate Bridge at night, even though it is not quite dark outside yet. Just having a little fun with you guys. Using a Zoom background. That no one can see. This is for an audience of two. And Anna's not even looking. I know.
Starting point is 00:02:50 Anna's the queen of all the Zoom effects. This is my first time trying one, but I think it's working out pretty well. They're stock backgrounds, guys. He's coming with the weak shit. But this is a good one. It's pretty fun. If you say so. Alright, dude. They're stock backgrounds, guys. He's coming weak. He's coming with the weak shit. But this is a good one. It's pretty
Starting point is 00:03:06 fun. If you say so. Alright. Guys, let's... Miles. Guys. Let's tell the guys what's trending and the gals. The non-binary pals. Everybody's out here. That's right. Trending in the streets. Everyone out
Starting point is 00:03:22 here. Remdesivir. Remdes out here. Remdesivir. Disavir. Yep. Remdesivir. R-E-M-desivir. R-E-M-desivir. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:33 So this is an experimental drug for the coronavirus that Dr. Anthony Fauci has confirmed has a proven benefit. Yeah. has confirmed, has a proven benefit, a statistically significant positive effect in diminishing the time to recovery. So now we just have to wait for the president to confirm that that's true. And then I'm going to start feeling pretty positive. Yeah, I mean, I think we've all learned
Starting point is 00:04:01 throughout all this, Anthony Fauci just wants attention. And he's, you know, he just wants all the shine. He's a distraction. But I mean, if this is what he says, I guess this could be good news. Again, we need to wait for the commander in chief to officially approve this message. But yeah, wow. It's the thing that most people were pointing to with this whole announcement was, you know, normally if you have a clinical trial, like it's got to go through peer review and all this other
Starting point is 00:04:28 stuff before you're like out here basically saying like there as he says clear-cut significant positive effect in diminishing the time to recovery um but he said the reason why he did it is there's quote an ethical obligation to immediately let the placebo group know so they can have access to the drug so that i guess that's a good it's like at first whenever you read anything like this i was like oh god really but i mean i again i'm glad to hear from a doctor yes and i mean i you know we've talked before about how there's like a long uh period of time needed to figure out what the side effects of various treatments are. But when you look at the history of the AIDS crisis in the 80s and 90s, which is where Dr. Fauci, what his background is,
Starting point is 00:05:20 a lot of that was trying to figure out ways to get the FDA to approve experimental treatments and things that hadn't been fully vetted in the way that you would typically vet a treatment. But people were out here dying, so they were bending the rules a little bit to give people access to things that hadn't been fully vetted yet. And that ended up being how they got to some of to things that hadn't been fully vetted yet. And that ended up being how they got to some of the things that worked out in that particular crisis. So probably going to have to do that again. And there'll probably be, it's going to be a little bit messier than your typical drug trial, but shout out to them. shout out to everybody who's uh you know out there working
Starting point is 00:06:07 really hard on the front lines to find something that's going to help people and speaking of the devil jared kushner out here uh doing the lord's work He said that the federal response to coronavirus has been a great success story. He's so foolish. I mean, yeah, unbelievable. We're passing the Vietnam War death toll and it's a great success.
Starting point is 00:06:39 Great, great success, everyone. Really, I mean, the way the government came together to save everyone's lives, it's completely, yeah, it's a joke. So a lot of people are rightly just rolling their eyes and can't believe what they're hearing. Like when you live in a world where, you know, people are still unable to go to work. People were not able to be near loved ones as they passed away but yes yes great great success everyone nailed it yeah perfect i don't know how they're going to tell that lie to themselves and their followers i mean i know they are going to tell that lie i just don't know how how they pull it off right and how people are going to convince themselves to believe it. I know they are going to do that, but we'll see how,
Starting point is 00:07:28 how they, the clever ways they contort themselves to, to buy that shit. Let's talk Assassin's Creed. Yeah, Jack, you're one of your favorite franchises. Finally,
Starting point is 00:07:41 some new art has been revealed, eagerly anticipated in my household uh what what do you think man i don't want to i don't want to put my i don't want to put my opinion on you right right what are your thoughts i mean jack what do you what do you think is just the constant synchronization you had to do uh like to get like more a wider view of the map at every level you go to as your character in the game does it get real redundant i thought it was a little bit annoying like in terms of gameplay like you know uh but it's still you know it's assassin's creed it is what we thought it was uh and oddly enough your vague commentary
Starting point is 00:08:27 is pretty spot on for what this game is um it's pretty consistent it's every every iteration you're in some kind of you're some warrior some person fighting people whether that was right etzio in italy or you know you're in like the Revolutionary War or Egypt or uh the Roman Empire I believe I haven't played that one that's called Assassin's Creed Odyssey let me know if that's worth downloading uh but it's like a very simple game over and over always exploring some new kind of you know warfaring culture and this time it's Viking themed which is new territory the title kind of gave it away with Valhalla, but for people who play other Ubisoft games like The Division 2,
Starting point is 00:09:11 sometimes there was little things lying around where you could tell that maybe the next Assassin's Creed was going to have a Viking theme for those steely-eyed agents, as we call it. Right, Jack? Yeah. That's what we call it. I don't know about the rest of you.
Starting point is 00:09:27 All right, well, good. I'm on board. It doesn't seem like a period of time with a lot of intrigue and sneaking up on people because you picture the Vikings as just running around with hammers and axes, just fucking... Just stealing shit from the weak. Yeah, so I'll be interested to see
Starting point is 00:09:50 as I get deeper into this game, how they pull it off. Right, right, right. I have no doubt they will. The Creed franchise, top two Creed franchises. Right, right, right. There's the Ryan Johnson one,
Starting point is 00:10:07 and not Ryan Johnson, Michael B. Jordan one. I mean, I don't know about you, Jack, but I think when you heard Vikings, you were hoping that maybe it takes place. We're talking 793. They're pulling up to Lindisfarne and just absolutely raiding a priory, surprise raid,
Starting point is 00:10:25 officially kicking off the Viking era. I'm more interested in seeing 1491 where it's different native tribes in the new world and they're taking out colonizers and conquistadors. That's what I would say. I would also watch a movie called 1492 Electric Boogaloo. Yeah. I don't know why. It's going to be fucked up.
Starting point is 00:10:54 And then finally, Warp Speed is trending. I mean, great. And you know why. Dude, such great marketing here. Operation Warp speed is what the president you know directing hhs fda to get a friggin vaccine push going we are flying at warp speed here to cover our asses because we were so slow to respond uh to Warp speed is the only thing that will do. I think it's clever because it almost makes it seem like they're really on top of things by giving it a name like warp speed.
Starting point is 00:11:33 But essentially, as an assistant secretary of HHS says, like sounds like a straight out of a North Korean news broadcast, Operation Warp Speed is clearly another extension of president trump's bold leadership and unwillingness to accept business as usual approaches to addressing the covid 19 crisis fuck bro the businesses i'm tired of these people's business as usual approaches to addressing this once in a lifetime covid19 health epidemic and pandemic. So, yeah. I mean, again, vaccine timetables have been a lot of, like, apparently positive things coming out of different vaccine studies.
Starting point is 00:12:17 But, you know, we're looking at 12 to 18 months. So, you know, the earliest could be mid-March next year of 2021. But that's science. That's research. Yeah. Well. I'm just glad we're going at warp speed. Raw pee is an anagram for warp.
Starting point is 00:12:36 And the president brings the raw power. I don't know, man. I don't know. It's been a long day already oh man deep raps well yeah deep raps there we go and that's all I need to do
Starting point is 00:12:53 alright well let's keep our eye on Operation Warp Speed it honestly feels like this presidency is being written by the WWE it's like a ww a bad wwe uh storyline i mean we will see something i'm telling you when this passes like some anthropomorphized covid19 getting just body slammed by trump or some shit like that it's gonna be some shit like
Starting point is 00:13:23 shocked it hasn't happened yet yeah well it's because they can't like that, it's going to be some shit like that. Shocked it hasn't happened yet. Well, it's because they can't claim victory yet. It's a little premature. Even they know. Right. You can't spike the football yet. Right. All right, guys.
Starting point is 00:13:34 That has been, that is what is trending this afternoon. We hope you're all doing well. We hope you're all staying safe, being good to each other being good to yourselves wash your hands, stay inside and we will be back tomorrow with a whole new episode of the podcast and we will talk to you then
