This week I interviewed Sean Mendez.
He started out sharing covers online and now he's one of the biggest names in music.
He also uses his platform to raise awareness for causes he cares about, like mental health and climate change.
The reality is I don't have a deeper understanding of life.
I just have a deeper acceptance of self.

Hi, I'm SC Cupp, and I've spent my career interviewing people about politics, presidential
elections, and some really tough breaking news. But now I need a break, and I think
you do too. So on my new podcast, Off the Cup, I'll still be interviewing people, usually
famous and most likely my friends,
but about life, you know, the stuff that
consumes us when we're not consumed by
politics.
So come join me every Wednesday for some
conversational self-care.

Hello the internet and welcome to this episode of Happy 100th Birthday, Jimmy Carter.
Oh wow. Yeah.
Jimmy Carter.
My name is Jack, Jimmy Cartrend.
My name is Jack.
Jimmy Cartrend.
That over there is Myles.
Hey, Jimmy Cartrend.
That rolls off the tongue.
And this is the episode where we tell you
what is trending in America's shared consciousness.
Obviously, the big story right now,
Iran launched about 180 ballistic missiles at Israel.
And yeah, I mean, we've conducted some interviews
with experts in international relations
and this seems bad is the conclusion.
It's just a constant escalation.
The U.S. again, like we refuse to exert any kind of leverage over Israel, as it just looks like they're they're seeking some kind of massive regional war.
It's just again, like for all the talk of like safety of people, this is I don't see how this is making anyone safer.
all the talk of like safety of people, this is, I don't see how this is making anyone safer. And like you were pointing out, I think on Monday about just sort of this idea of like
escalation to deescalate, which is sort of like rhetorically what Israel is saying,
is not effective. It's only inflaming things. You now have missiles heading into your country
because of the expansion of all this aggression, not just in Gaza and the West Bank, but now in
Lebanon and displaced like a quarter, at least, I think they're saying at least one
million people have been displaced internally in Lebanon and others are going to Syria.
And we talk about this, you'll hear about this on tomorrow's show, like in Michigan,
there are concerns about what this is doing to the Harris campaign's ability to actually
win in Michigan, because
of the lack of any movement in a different direction from what Biden is doing, which
is just sort of like looking the other way.
And I just, yeah, like at the beginning of the year, I remember when we were talking
about predictions, I was just like, there's the fact that the United States is not doing anything tangible about the genocide and the occupation
Is going it's some if there's some something is this isn't just gonna come to pass. It's not gonna blow over
Yeah, no, no, no in some way there is going to be some kind of
Reaction to the lack of action
And yeah, and you're just saying this now with the constant
just escalation, escalation. You had, you know, at the UN, you had foreign ministers of like these
Arab countries saying like, look, we have, we're offering a diplomatic off ramp here. Like it
doesn't need to be this way. And for all the talk that you hear from Netanyahu is of like,
we're surrounded by nations that want to kill us. They're saying like, as the nations you're saying, like, want this,
we're telling you we can guarantee peace.
Just it's just very clear.
Like, just please stop filing a stop.
Yeah. Please stop killing innocent people.
Yeah. Escalation to deescalate is a theory that only makes sense
if your end game is just and then they do whatever we tell them to do.
Right. It'll deescalate because we've overwhelmed you with our escalation.
Yeah. The reporting of the missile attack has been revelatory
in the sense that CNN is able to notice when a missile attack is on a civilian
target and seems designed to inflict the maximum loss of innocent life,
which is how they're describing this missile attack.
They don't seem capable of making that same deduction when it's happening in any of the
countries that Israel is attacking. And it's also just generally like Americans don't want
fucking more war. No. And we and the polling is so clear that arming Israel and allowing them to run this
campaign of like genocide and displacement is, is not, is not good. Like, and these aren't
people, foreign policy experts. They're just merely observing things as human beings saying,
no, this is, this is really, this is terrible. Like, this is not the direction of a world that
I want to be living in, alongside
the many other things that Americans don't want to be a part of going forward in the future.
But it's, it's just so frustrating again, because you see all of these things that potentially could
add up to Donald Trump winning again, when a lot of these things seem pretty simple. It's just that,
yeah, you kind of have to go against the momentum of the military industrial complex and like lobbying on behalf of Israel to be
able to achieve that. But that's where you were looking for something that is inspirational
in terms of leadership. But yeah, it's not easy, but it is simple. Like that's, that's
what needs to be done in this case.
Sure. And like, yeah, exactly. And easy is definitely a subjective thing, especially for lifelong politicians who, you know, live in a world
where you can get phone calls from people and you're like, I don't know, man, I think I shouldn't,
I shouldn't support this bill. I shouldn't do this thing. But, but holy shit, we need some kind of
actual lasting permanent ceasefire at a minimum without just being tethered to, you know, like what Israel is doing
and inevitably having to be drawn into some larger conflict that is going to cause an even
increased amount of innocent people being killed. So yeah, it's right there. It's right there for
the Harris Waltz campaign. Please, you may be surprised at what happens if you do the thing that, you know,
over three quarters of your voting base is asking for. Yeah. But given the tenor of the
Western mainstream media, it feels like that outcome has become less likely.
Right. And I think that's why it's so disorienting. And I've said this so many times for people who
they observe something, they read something,
oh, that's awful.
But then like the tone of the media is like,
yeah, I don't know, man.
Like they're, they gotta defend themselves
and Joe Byron, Joe Byron's down for that.
So, and onto our next story kind of a thing.
But yeah, this is how we see how, you know,
mass media is just essentially a larger tool
of the larger imperialistic project.
But yeah.
Yeah.
Let's see some kind of diplomatic action.
Let's see some use of leverage.
It's right there, really low hanging fruit.
All right.
Speaking of lifelong politicians,
Jimmy Carter is old as hell today.
He just turned 100, which is the longest a US president
has ever lived.
He's previously said that he wants Joe Biden
to eulogize him at his eventual state funeral.
But it does seem possible that Carter will outlive
Biden at this point.
Who knows?
Carter has been in hospice for 19 months.
Um, and his grandson, Jason Carter has said that the former president's quote,
eager to cast his ballot for Kamala Harris in a guardian article.
So years old for some reason, I think like his son, Vince Carter, son, Vince
Carter has said, uh, Oh, yo. Yo. What a talented, Incredible longevity.
Yeah.
He has previously attributed his longevity
to his wife Rosalyn Carter,
but she passed away in 2023
before we had a chance to, you know,
extract her blood and synthesize
so as to give us all whatever Jimmy Carter's
death-defying powers are.
It's the peanuts, man.
It's the peanuts. Yeah. It's the peanuts. Yeah.
It's all about peanuts. Yeah. I mean, this has been, there's so many, I mean, like, yeah,
happy birthday to Jimmy Carter. And then like, you know, on Monday,
you had Dikembe Mutombo and Pete Rose passing away. There's just a lot of,
and then John Amis also today, you know, there's a lot of life and death is always happening around us.
But yeah, Jimmy Carter, 100, well, 100 years old.
Jimmy Carter, as one account online
at History Calendar pointed out,
Jimmy Carter is now too old to play with Legos.
Because Legos age is listed four to 99.
So.
Can you imagine you put Legos in front of him?
He's like, what are these?
Their Legos Jimmy dies like right away
Choked on a Lego
He thought it was gum. Yeah. All right, and Ted Cruz is back in the news So every once in a while I get a little news flash that Ted Cruz
His race is getting closer and closer.
Yeah.
To the point that he is now.
So he was like, he, I think won his first race by like 16 points back in 2012.
And then in 2018 against Beto O'Rourke, uh, it was like a 2.6 point win.
O'Rourke. It was like a 2.6 point win. He's now up by one percentage point in his race against Colin Allred, a Democrat in Texas in a statewide election. I think the ones that have him up the
highest is like at most three points and the closest one percent like one point so that is that is very
close for a Texas race but again I think a lot of people who are you know
Democrats in Texas always point to the fact that it's like no no the voter
suppression is just really good here that's that's why it seems solidly red
it's not that these people don't exist that are progressive or liberal or
whatever it's just that the voter suppression's real good.
And we've heard people like Ken Paxton,
the attorney general brag about how he's like,
yeah, man, I basically like caused so much chaos
in Houston that I'm pretty sure
that's how Trump was able to win.
So yeah, this is now he's doing the thing
that you know you're in trouble when suddenly like a month
and a few days out from election,
like I'm actually really
Bipartisan now me right? Yeah, Cruz. He's come out as bipartisan
Yeah, he's attempting to rebrand. He's trying the rebrand
He saw what it did for Mark Zuckerberg, and he's like maybe I just like get a new look
Do you see that tweet about Mark Zuckerberg talking about how you thought like wearable glasses are like the next future tech and someone.
Yeah. Quote to it.
And it was like, damn, how when Adonis gets so old,
breaks, kid. Yeah.
So stupid.
What's that floppy?
He went floppy hair with the chains.
I'm still really unsettled by that.
He rebranded as like Gen Z, even though he's a 40 something person. I
think he's 40. But yeah, so Ted Cruz came out and said that he's always passing bipartisan legislation
and the mainstream media just doesn't report on it. A very sweaty pivot by him. You were always
bipartisan? Yeah, he's always been bipartisan. Oh, you ranked as a bipartisan?
What's your bipartisan?
You must be like top five bipartisans?
So, yeah, the Lugar Center and Georgetown University McCourt School of Public Policy
actually released a report in May ranking senators by how bipartisan their votes were
in the most recent session of Congress.
Ted Cruz, what, top ten?
Yeah, so he is bottom 10, actually.
Out of 98 senators on the list, he ranked 89th.
Which, he's actually become less bipartisan recently
because on the previous list, he ranked 85th.
But he's always down there at the bottom.
Yeah, Politico, I think, was initially reporting
this story and they even asked, like, oh, so,
like, if you're so bi, then why did you vote against that horrific bipartisan
border bill, which many people were like, Jesus Christ, Joe Biden is laying down and
basically putting in a bill that was written by like James Lankford, who was like, this
now this is it, bro.
Like he, we got the concessions we want.
And then because Trump was sort of like, no,
I need to be able to say that the border is a mess.
So no, none of you fucking vote for this,
even the ones that care and it is our wish list.
So Cruz's response to that is like,
so what happened with that bill, which was bipartisan quote,
the bill was an absolutely terrible bill.
It was a Chuck Schumer bill that was designed
to make the border crisis worse. It was such a bad bill that any Republican reading it said this is terrible and I can't support it
Except for one of the most right-wing senators when it comes to immigration who was like, yeah this good good for me
Good here. All right, man. Yeah, keep keep doing your thing. I just can't wait to see his new haircut
It's gonna be dope. He's gonna get like a perm. Or he'll grow the beard out. Does he have the beard still?
He might do that.
I haven't checked in with him in a while.
At the RNC, he did have his little beard going.
So maybe it'll be like full on Confederate
mutton chops for the election.
This bill is giving Chuck Schumer.
Is how he should have said it.
All right, let's take a quick break.
We'll be right back.
We're turning up the heat
on the newest episode of All the Smoke.
Vice President and Democratic
presidential nominee Kamala Harris
pulls up to the show to discuss
her historic presidential run.
Most people have ambition.
They have aspirations.
They have dreams and they are willing to work hard.
And if we give people the opportunity to actually meet those goals, they jump for it every time.
Matt and Stack will be diving deep into the journey that brought her here, her vision
for the future and the real stories behind the headlines.

Hey, it's me Jay Shetty and I'm the host of the award winning podcast On Purpose. I created
this show to bring you conversations that inspire, motivate and help you navigate life
a little easier. Every guest brings something special, whether it's about relationships, mental health,
or finding your purpose.
And this week I had the opportunity
to interview Sean Mendez,
a singer-songwriter known for his heartfelt lyrics
and melodies.
Sean's music feels like an open diary,
raw, relatable, and real.
Beyond the music, he's all about using his platform for good,
advocating for mental health and the environment.
He really comes down to the moment you're prepared
to take responsibility for your life
and for everything that goes wrong
and for everything that goes right.
And it's hard.

We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline, a new podcast from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts.
When you're just starting out in your career, you have a lot of questions.
Like how do I speak up when I'm feeling overwhelmed?
Or, can I negotiate a higher salary
if this is my first real job?
Girl, yes.
Each week, we answer your unfiltered work questions.
Think of us as your work besties
you can turn to for advice.
And if we don't know the answer,
we bring in experts who do,
like resume specialist Morgan Sanner.
The only difference between the person who doesn't get the job
and the person who gets the job is usually who applies.
Yeah, I think a lot about that quote.
What is it, like you miss 100% of the shots you never take?
Yeah, rejection is scary, but it's better
than you rejecting yourself.
Together, we'll share what it really
takes to thrive in the early years of your career
without sacrificing your sanity or sleep.

Hi, I'm Essie Kupp and I've spent the last 20 plus years knee deep in politics in the news.
I've covered some really tough subjects from war to genocide to six presidential
elections,
way too much Trump.
You know what?
I need a break, like a mental health break from the news, from the triggering headlines.
And I kind of suspect some of you listening out there might need a break too.
So my new podcast is going to be just that, a fun and loose space where I talk to my famous
friends and people I admire about all the
stuff that consumes us when we're not consumed by politics.
I did not really rebel in the 60s.
I had no sex in the 70s.
I made no money in the 80s.
So when true crime came along, I missed that trend too.
So many great guests are joining me from Josh Mankiewicz to Larry Wilmore,
to Molly John Fass, to Josh Gad.
I'm so excited that you have this platform and I am just like hoping that I don't
destroy the platform in its earliest stages.
Listen to Off the Cup on the iHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your favorite shows.
Sup y'all, this is Questlove and I'm here to tell you about a new podcast
I've been working on with the Story Pirates and John Glickman called Historical Records. It's a family-friendly podcast.
Yeah, you heard that right. A podcast for all ages. One you can listen to and enjoy with your kids
starting on September 27th.
I'm going to toss it over to the host of Historical Records,
Nimini, to tell you all about it.
Make sure you check it out.
Hey, y'all. Nimini here.
I'm the host of a brand new history podcast
for kids and families called Historical Records.
Historical Records brings history to life through hip hop.
Flash slam, another one gone.
Bash bam, another one gone.
The cracker, the bat, and another one gone.
A tip, but a cap, there's another one gone.
Each episode is about a different,
inspiring figure from history.
Like this one about Claudette Colvin,
a 15-year-old girl in Alabama
who refused to give up
her seat on the city bus nine whole months
before Rosa Parks did the same thing.
Check it.
And if you came with me, did you know, did you know
I wouldn't give up my seat?
Nine months before Rosa, it was Claudette Colvin.
Get the kids in your life excited about history
by tuning in to Historical Records because
in order to make history, you have to make some noise.
Listen to Historical Records on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your
podcasts.
And we're back.
We're back.
We're back.
And so Taco Bell is testing a couple of new items.
The Calian Caliente Cantina chicken burrito.
You're insane.
The Caliente Cantina chicken burrito and Aguas Refresca drinks.
So just overall, how do we feel about like, I mean, personally, we all have our like Taco Bell orders, you know?
Yeah, yeah.
So I'm probably not coming up off of the cheesy gordita crunch, but what is your...
I look at it as like an artist that I love when they start doing new kinds of genre stuff to bring in more fans into them. Like, yeah, I'm good with expanding the imprint of the brand.
But at the end of the day, I only eat like three things at Taco Bell.
And I will I don't know why even when I see them like that looks good to my mouth
eyes as I look at it. But then you get me to a Taco Bell.
It's I'm always going to drink Baja Blast.
I'm always going to get some kind either soft tacos supreme or have like a maxi melt reverse engineered and like a chicken spicy spicy
Chicken quesadilla, that's it. I don't need anything else. I don't need anything else
So that's why part of me is like am I bad cuz I'm I don't even I'm not even interested or I'm just so
also appears to have lettuce in it, which I am not a I cannot
deal with lettuce in my burrito personally.
Really? Yeah.
I don't I don't fuck with it.
Yeah. I mean, I don't mind.
And again, my soft taco supreme has got lettuce in it, you know? Yeah.
And even like the fucking Jack in the Box deep fried ones
where you get like these be like two for a in the box, deep fried ones where you get
like these would be like two for a buck. Yeah, those do have lettuce too. Yeah. They have like
warm, wet lettuce and I fucking love those things for some reason. Yeah. Wow. Yeah. I think someone
tweeted something, but I was like, yeah, it's technically a vegetable because it has that
lettuce in it. Yeah. In terms of fast food. It's basically a salad. Yeah. That's the logic I use.
I guess of all the things,
I would be open to a different drink.
Like I love Baja Fresh,
but I like sweet drinks just generally.
I'm sorry, did I say Baja Fresh?
Well, yeah.
And you do love Baja Fresh.
And you think it hasn't gotten any worse.
No, no, not at all.
They've actually gotten better over the years.
But yeah, the aguas frescas, that'll, I'll take a punt on that.
How fresca do we think these aguas are?
That's the, that's the real thing. Cause like, if you go to a real like taqueria or something,
like a real taco stand or joint, like that one in like those obviously those big plastic
jugs where you can see the fruit in it and you're like, I know it's a lot of sugar, but I'll see pieces of fruit.
Is this going to just be a syrupy bag type thing that they're calling it?
I will.
First, I don't know.
That's T B D T B D.
But again, I don't go to Taco Bell for fresh ingredients.
I go for just terrible consistency.
Yeah.
TBD Taco Bell do it.
Um, I don't know why they left the eye off. I don't know.
I couldn't come up with a D dammit.
It didn't stick the landing there, but that's all right.
They're also bringing back the cheese. It crunch wrap Supreme.
This time with an exciting twist to cheese it
would have to cheese it. Wait, what do you mean?
What the first Taco Bell cheese at Crunchwrap Supreme presupposed
is one cheese it.
But what this asks the question of this asks is what if two cheese it?
So they're just dropping a second big, big old cheese
at cracker in the middle of the Crunchwrap Supreme.
Yeah. And like a like nearly 20 times the size cheese it.
But now they're bringing, now you get to, now you get to stacked stack them, baby.
I like how it says the company will also offer an a la cart, big cheese it.
Just be like, Hey, can I get the big cheese?
You know, you want the crunch wrap?
Nah, nah, man.
Just give me that. Can I get a side of big cheese it, know you want the crunch wrap nah nah man excuse me can i get a side of big cheese it please thank you thank you king shit i think i just want to do that to do the order
just to say that at a drive-through and freak her majesty out i'm like watch this
can i get a big cheese it i mean that's it might come in handy with like the the goopy stuff
falling out of your
crunch wrap supreme.
You know what I mean?
Just like a little pick up a little.
Yeah, little plate that you eat after a little goop shovel, which we all need when we're
eating Taco Bell.
Yeah.
Not to be confused with the $3,000 diamond encrusted goop shovel that Gwyneth Paltrow
sells on Goop. All right.
And finally, uh, Netflix cancellations recently spiked thanks to Trump
supporters, uh, the mega action, um, or maybe not.
So this is kind of being widely reported, uh, that Netflix cancellations
spiked in July
after Netflix co-founder Reed Hastings
endorsed Kamala Harris and donated $7 million
to her campaign.
Cancellations dearly tripled in the month of July.
And Bloomberg.
But it wasn't even directly to her campaign, right?
It was to like another,
it was like a Republican accountability,
like indirect hit.
But I think they're like,
what, Republican account, you're her. But I think they're like, what Republican account?
You're her.
But again, I get it.
It's the money still against the same person, essentially.
Bloomberg, the New York Post, Fox Business all came through with the Netflix
cancellation spiked after Reed Hastings donated to Kamala Harris.
Netflix cancellations nearly tripled after co-founder Reed
Hastings endorsed Kamala Harris.
So he stepped down as Netflix CEO in 2023. And also he donated $7 million, not to Harris' campaign
directly, but to the Republican Accountability Pack. But yes, news of the donations inspired
calls for a boycott at the time. and Netflix was previously trying to keep his
politics quiet probably because of stuff like this. However, like people who
actually follow Netflix subscription numbers are like that was also when they
announced that they were phasing out the cheapest non ad-supported tier like the
basic plan. So they were, we expected a huge spike
in cancellations at that time.
This is just basically a made up story to make it seem like mega alive
and well and powerful.
Yeah. I mean, they're your ass Netflix.
And this is every time they love to be like, dude, don't piss off
the member.
What they did to Volvo.
Remember what they did to curing.
Remember what they did to what and put to Carhartt.
And all those businesses promptly went out of business and
no longer exist.
Yeah.
I mean, I, I look at my car heart and I go, God, thank God I have that. Because they don't have,
they're not making it anymore. Because they just went so out of business so hard.
Nike socks, they don't even sell Nike socks anymore. They just sell the
socks with the hole where the Nike logo used to be from where people cut out the Nike logo.
And Nike is not doing well, but that's for a myriad of other reasons that have nothing to do with
MAGA outrage about Colin Kaepernick. But it is funny how you get these conservative outlets being
like, all right, man, what are we doing the MAGA consumer myth article? Let's go. Netflix
cancellations spike. Netflix cancellations nearly tripled. Netflix highest day of cancellations this
year. Even though Netflix is preparing their own investors to be like, look, bro, this, it might get a little dodgy when we have to raise the
prices, but it's happening because line must go up.
Yeah.
And the new CEO gets to come in and be like, fucking read.
Yeah.
Be serious, man.
What the?
He did.
Look what he did to me.
Guys, we got rid of him.
So don't worry about that.
That's not a going forward problem.
That problem's in the rear view.
Yeah, the read view.
But yeah, all those articles with the headline being like the mega consumer
half spoken, then admit in the body of the text that it's really just because
Netflix shot themselves in the foot by discontinuing their most affordable
option, but they just, you know, you don't put that in the headline.
Yeah.
Rather than the headline being Netflix cancellation spike after discontinuing their
most affordable option.
They're like, nah, man, say it's because they don't like, I don't know, whatever the new
thing.
They don't like your eyes.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That show is a trip.
Oh, did you finish behind?
Oh my God, bro.
Yeah, man.
I was like, what the fuck are you doing, Adele?
And then the other dude.
Look, I was like, we I don't want to I don't want to ruin it, but it was.
Yeah, yeah.
There was a lot of show that I was out on.
But then when my wife got to the end and told me what was happening,
I had to like come back and just like watch it because I couldn't believe the twist
was what she said it was.
No, she didn't read the book.
Okay, Hermes, she read the book
and she was kind of breaking down the differences
and they left some things out
that I think would have kind of handset slightly.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And I wasn't like, oh, this was a total L.
I was definitely like, what the fuck?
And then such a European ending
Where it's like and everything is bad and you're like, oh right. Yeah, usually that guy willers
Yeah, horror thrillers. Okay. Yeah anyway, anyways
Everything is bad and that is gonna do it for us today
We are back tomorrow with a whole episode of the show.
Until then, be kind to each other.
Be kind to yourselves.
You have the vaccine. Get your flu shots.
Don't do nothing about white supremacy.
And we will talk to you tomorrow. Bye. Bye.
Hey, my name is Jay Shetty and I'm the host of On Purpose. This week I interviewed Sean Mendez.
He started out sharing covers online and now he's one of the biggest names in music.
He also uses his platform to raise awareness for causes he cares about like mental health
and climate change.
The reality is I don't have a deeper understanding of life.
I just have a deeper acceptance of self.

Hey, I'm Gianna Predenti.
And I'm Jamea Jackson-Gadston.
We're the hosts of Let's Talk Offline
from LinkedIn News and iHeart Podcasts.
There's a lot to figure out
when you're just starting your career. That's where we come in.
Think of us as your work besties you can turn to for advice.
And if we don't know the answer, we bring in people who do, like negotiation expert Morrie Teharry-Pore.
If you start thinking about negotiations as just a conversation, then I think it sort of eases us a little bit.

Hi, I'm Se Cup, and I've spent my career interviewing people about politics, presidential
elections, and some really tough breaking news.
But now I need a break.
And I think you do too.
So on my new podcast, Off the Cup, I'll still be interviewing people, usually famous and
most likely my friends,
but about life. You know, the stuff that consumes us when we're not consumed by politics. So
come join me every Wednesday for some conversational self-care. Listen to Off the Cup on the iHeart
radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your favorite shows.

call it what it is. You may know us from Graceland Memorial, but did you know that we are actually
besties in real life?
And as all besties do, we navigate the highs and lows of life together.
Big or small, we're there.
And now here we are, opening up the friendship circle to you.
